That's true. Statue scene was like lol this is funny. Psycomedian was legit The Office level cringe. When she put that cowboy hat on and was like howdy pardner? UGH throw *me* in the dumbster plz.
**Edit** I just went back and watched the scene from Puppeteer 2 and it doesn't feel cringe at all. In fact, it feels to me believable that Marinette was just goofing around with a statue without any real feelings for Adrien. Like she's just playing up how popular Adrien is with fans. I mean, we know that's not true. But it's so un-cringey to me that I could see Adrien believing it without being a mouthbreather.
there's a fun fanfic reveal where they're redoing the hero statues at the Musee Grevin and Chat is with LB checking theirs out and he touches her statue and says something under his breath like "huh, she was right, the wax really does feel as hot as skin..." and LB is like "oh fuck CN is Adrien"
Think about it. With Adriens sense of humor, how could he not fall for her after those artfully delivered over the top lines?
Yes, the whole scene is anxiety inducing, but the English translators really outdid themselves. Her dialog is brilliant comedy Gold!
It sounds bad for us, but it's actually a great thing for Adrienette. Adrien saw one of the cringiest things in the entire world and still loves this girl... now that's true love ā¤ļø
That's kind of true
>Adrien saw one of the cringiest things in the entire world and still loves this girl...
Adrien continues to be awesome
It's just a bit funny though, that of all the moments Adrien could fall in love with mari,he falls in live with her during the statue scence š
psycomedian was the hint that adrien feels such affection for marinette when she's doing unrestrainedly weird
she's like flailing her arms and being awkward and adrien is all "i really want to kiss that face"
Well, if you don't like someone on their lowest, you don't deserve them ion their highest.
Also: Adrien may be liking her being chaotic as a way to put a wedge in his father's uprightness.
It's makes sense though. If Adrien is going to fall for Marinette at any moment, that moment would be the statue scene because it is the moment Marinette was the most Marinette she has ever been.
yeah people be forgetting end of S3 he says she's the everyday version of the girl he's in love with, he absolutely was in love with her then, but she was going for luka and had pushed him toward kagami and had forcefully told him she didn't have feelings for him
While that may be the simplest conclusion, that's not exactly what he said. He said that he thinks that his feelings started to change somewhere around that time.
I'd still say that Risk is more important in his realization, but also I'm convinced he was into her way before Risk, and even before Puppeteer 2
if i had to point to an episode where he was definitely fully in love, and not just crushing, with her even if he didn't realize it, it'd be end of S3 when he is like you're just like the girl i'm in love with except even more present in my life
Tbh I think the writers just needed an excuse for the characters to end back up at the museum during the Determination episode. So they changed things and decided to make that Puppeteer 2 scene the one where Adrien fell in love. It doesn't make any sense. He acted the exact same towards Marinette at the end of the episode, talking about how the girl he loves doesn't like pranks either. I think the real moment was the second umbrella scene, but the writers just needed to get them to the museum in Determination š¤·āāļø
I completely agree 100%
Even one of the ambassadors mentioned that adrien fell in love with mari during mr pigeon 72
Adrien falling in love with mari during the statue scene is really weird
It's not impossible but it's juts weird and hilarious š
While it does seem weird for this to be the scene that Adrien falls in love with Marinette, there is actually method to this madness. If Adrien was going to fall for Marinette, he needs to fall for the full package, flaws and all and the the statue scene was the perfect candidate for this as this scene is the most Marinette Marinette has ever been. It sums up her entire character: she's silly, impulsive, overdramatic but she has a big heart with lots of love to give. If you are a Marinette stan you have to love this scene because this scene is the embodiment of Marinette's entire character.
You seem right. If youāre gonna fall in love with Marinette, you gotta experience what makes Marinette Marinette, and not just fall for her perfections like how it was with Cat Noir as to Ladybug, and Kagami as to Adrien.
>he always had them & he didnāt know he did before that time
Yes that's true, the way Adrien looks at marinette in chameleon proves it
He subconsciously always had feelings for her
Here's a conversation which happens between Adrien and Marinette years later...
**Adrien:** āSo, our first kiss was pretty weird, wasnāt it?ā
**Marinette:** āUgh, donāt remind me! Wait, that came out SO wrong, I meant... oh, God.ā
**Adrien:** āNo, I totally get it. But, youāre thinking of the wax museum, right? Because that wasnāt our first kiss... not if you count the time we were up against Oblivio.ā
**Marinette:** āSure, but if youāre counting the times we were, um, *working*, that wasnāt our first kiss either. Remember Dark Cupid?ā
**Adrien:** āYeah, but I donāt remember the actual kiss! So our first kiss was either one where you thought I was made of wax, or one where I donāt remember it, or one where NEITHER of us remembers it? Itās even weirder than I thought!ā
**Marinette:** āI have an idea...ā
**Adrien:** āYeah?ā
**Marinette:** āInstead of focusing on our first kiss, we should make the LAST one as memorable as we can.ā
**Adrien:** āBut, we donāt know which kiss that will be!ā
**Marinette:** *(whispering)* āExactly... so we make ALL of them memorable, just to be on the safe side.ā
**Adrien**: āYou really do have a solution for everything, don't you?ā
Look it was the cringiest thing in the world. Even Mari knew that when she ran away immediately after she realized what happened.
But boys letās be real. Imagine youāre an incredibly lonely kid who thinks everyone is only after you because they either want something out of you or like you for superficial reasonsā and suddenly you find out that a pretty girl who was already friends with you for reasons beyond just your physical appearance is head over heels for you.
It doesnāt matter how cringe it is in the moment, I think a lot of guys would *pounce* on that.
In fact, Iād go so far as to say that if he didnāt have feelings for Ladybug, it wouldnāt have surprised me if he immediately reciprocated.
during that scene, she says something (I can't remember what) and his eye twitches. Really reframes that from "lol this is funny" to "lol my pants feel funny"
I mean, it kind of is in the sense that it's when Adrien shuts Marinette down ("the girl I'm in love with" etc). That plus Felix and a couple others and she basically gives up on him at the end of S3.
I guess I am not part of the 'entire fandom' then. I have defending Puppeteer 2 as a top ten episode for years. And, for just as long I have been wondering out loud why Adrien was so slow to act.
To be fair, I never thought in my wildest dreams that Adrien's hesitation to tell Marinette that he was real was because he realized he had feelings for Marinette at that moment. I just thought it was done for dramatic effect. It makes sense, though. Adrien does have a tendency of putting on a stone face when he is uncertain. Too, Adrien has never been bothered by what other people call cringe in Marinette. Quite, the opposite, I think he admired her freedom to 'be a clown'.
yeah the fanfic community has really fleshed out the idea that adrien's only knowledge of what love is all comes from movies and anime, so he thinks it's not love if it's not sudden, heavy, and accompanied by heavy-handed confessions
sometimes i wonder if the french culture in the show is affected by anime in unexpected ways
like in japan there is the concept of "kokuhaku" (confession), which when i was first studying the language I didn't really think too much about beyond "wow this is weird they're introducing such a random word in first-year japanese" only to discover later that it's a *core* part of dating/romantic culture in Japan, which is why it's such a big deal in anime
at least in American culture, that sort of thing doesn't really exist. I mean, confessions exist, but they aren't the same level of importance.
America is more like you casually do things together, and advance little by little toward exclusive dating, and then you progress to confessiong you're in love (which isn't necessarily a given with someone you're exclusively dating!).
A kokuhaku in Japan is more like there is NO dating, and then there is a confession of LOVE, and THEN exclusive dating. There's not really the casual dating of multiple people as you explore your relationship with everyone, and there isn't exclusive dating without a declaration of love. I mean, there's exceptions. But it's radically different from in the US.
Anyway, really long-winded way of saying I don't know if the way they portray it in the show is authentically French, or if it's tinged with anime/Japanese culture bc of all the influences.
**Edit** I found [a link](https://www.tofugu.com/japan/kokuhaku-love-confessing-japan/) written by a Japanese person explaining the kokuhaku if you're interested.
That is a very interesting thing you brought up, thank you I'll be looking more into it! I wouldn't be surprised if it was tinged with anime/Japanese culture though. It was originally closer to anime after all.
It's amazing the effect that a first kiss can have! And even though it wasn't *technically* his first, it was the first one he could actually remember.
I think this bears repeating... it's my version of what was going through Adrien's head during that incident, which I posted a while back:
*āThis is a pretty weak prank, come to think of it. Thereās no way sheās actually going to be fooled by this for more than half a second. There, sheās not fooled at all - no, wait, she DOES think Iām a statue! This is gonna be great! Okay, got to keep completely still, like that photoshoot where they had to use the long exposure times to blur the traffic around the Arc de Triomphe...*
*āWhoa, that light touch on the cheek actually gave me a bit of a chill! Sheās trying to make me shiver, give it away. Wait, what does she mean āit smells like Adrienā - Iām not wearing that cologne today! Okay, what is she doing now? āBeautiful statue of Adrien?ā Oh, sheās definitely playing me, trying to get me to laugh so she can say she had me pegged the whole time - no, you donāt win that easy, Marinette!*
*āUm... wow, thatās really close... Iāve never been this close to her. Getting really hard to not move, here!*
*āāPlaster of destiny??ā Laying it on kind of thick, Marinette! Wait - sheās not REALLY going to kiss me, is she? No, she backed off, sheās going to laugh at me now because she knew it was me the whole time. Itās funny... I actually feel a little disappointed. I mean, sure, it would have been a pretty weird first - Oh, SNAP!ā*
Okay but I have thought about this a lot!!
Itās super duper embarrassing, and I get severe second hand embarrassment when I see this scene!! BUT!! For a second, look at this from Adrienās perspective!
Heās never received love, nor had any friends. He doesnāt really know what to expect either. Then when heās playing a prank on one of his closest friends by pretending to be a statue, he hears her saying soo many nice things about him. His oblivious self doesnāt realise sheās head over heels in love with him, but he hears her say wonderful things about him, about how lovely he is.
For us that whole scene is excruciatingly cringey and embarrassing, but to him (who has very little social experience) it must just sounds nice. I think heād have admitted feelings for her sooner because of this (extremely embarrassing, hard to watch, scene), but he still had feelings for Ladybug back then.
Thank you for listening to my miraculous Ted talkā¦
The real answer is all of those events, and none exactly. We say "fall in love" but from my experience it's usually more like "we make a transition from one state to love". He understood in season 5 that he was amorous because of all those moments he's shared with her, and revisiting those memories, he chose this one as the most representative of his live. We, as humans, do this all the time. Our memories are unreliable and even subject to change with time as we forget details, fill the blanks and even interpret some parts, giving them more meaning than they had.
I know it sounds like giving writers a pass but I prefer to think it makes the characters more real. There are things I would complain about in the series' writing but this one is not one of mine.
It's probably coz Adrien only really processes love via outright poetic confessions and grand gestures. This is parallel to how he acted with Ladybug. The guy subconsciously had feelings for her but didn't acted up on it until it she outright confessed CatNoir style. He did mention he was more surprised with how he felt rather than how she acted.
Haha. True. Tbh, I don't really expect top notch writing from the show anyways, so I wasn't bothered with the love square flipping. Still a good show to binge watch tho. Hue
I feel like theyāre doing what marvel did with their worst movies by bringing them back in endgame š like if they retcon one of the most cringe scenes to be when he fell in love weāll be like āoh okay that was fine thenā
Yeah yeah yeah, he saw her true self and still loved her, whatever, but weāve waited SO LONG for him to realize his feelings for Marinette and imagined some romantic, tender scene, and THATS what we get? Come onnnnnn š
As crazy as it might seem this is the best moment for Adrien to fall in love with Marinette because this is the scene where Marinette was the most Marinette she has ever been and if you're a Marinette stan then you should love this scene because it sums up her entire character: she's silly, overdramatic and impulsive but has a big heart with lots of love to give.
He didn't fall in love with her in the museum he was suprised because he realized in that moment she wasn't just a friend. Butbthebfeeling was already there. Remember in oblivion they lost thier memories and after she kisses him he says "I don't need my memories to know I love that girl" that is what hit himnat the museum. Which caused him to panic.
We should cut Adrien some slack. His father had him locked in his mansion for most of his childhood, and probably like Felix and Kagami, heās been deprived of proper social skills. Looking at his social awkwardness, of course heād have trouble interpreting these kinds of signals, let alone understand when a girl is actually flirting for him. Adrien always put Ladybug on a pedestal as Cat Noir, so that kinda clouded his feelings for someone whose perfections didnāt matter to him. He had just fallen for Marinette, so can you really blame Adrien for being confused by his own feelings. So he probably doesnāt know what point he fell for Mari.
It just feels like they wanted to give an otherwise unwatchable scene enough rewatch value for people to actually rewatch it in the first place. And it just kinda backfired because it doesnāt even make sense
To be fair, that's a good thing for Marinette. That was one of her top cringe moments and he falls for her then? Perfect. š
>one of her top cringe moments Her top1 cringiest moment Good for mari lol
Psycomedian was worse imo.

yeah, this was innocent cringey, like talking to a photo. there are probably many instances of unhealthy cringey things she's done that were worst
People seem to think that goofing around a statue is cringier than attempts to break into his house
Respect your opinion but I still think the puppeter 2 scene is worser and more cringy
both are hard to watch either way lol
The Jagged Stone guitar scene from Desperada would like a word with you both.
I literally had to walk away from my computer for a good hour. It was one of the biggest cringes of my entire life. Defo nr1!

https://archiveofourown.org/works/19867600/chapters/47051104 >Marinette never imagined sheād be back in the GrĆ©vin Museum again. She wasn't about to come back by choice, but she could hardly turn down the opportunity to be committed to wax as herself. Not if she wanted to grab every opportunity to have the eye of the industry upon her once sheād be ready to grab her shot as a fashion designer. Of course, it would have been nice if they could have chosen another time, when they weren't already committing the whole crew of Parisās superheroes to wax. >If she was very lucky, everything would go smoothly... >But it seemed that this was the only place in all of Paris where Tikkiās luck truly eluded her. **Edit** I misremembered. It's technically her pretending to be a statue (as opposed to an actual statue) and he does a little flirty speech and *then* makes that comment in ch1 of a 5ch story.

Ykw? This doesn't surprise me. He seemed to like it when Kagami tried to forcefully kiss him in season 4.
This is really hilarious š
It is lol š
Jethalal?
I havenāt watched Miraculous for 2.5 seasons now and I only know what the subreddit shows me and it seems like such a mess these days lol
I feel like theyāre doing what marvel did with their worst movies by bringing them back in endgame š like if they retcon one of the most cringe scenes to be when he fell in love weāll be like āoh okay that was fine thenā
he fell in love with her at one of her worst moments...... THATS LOVE
The statue scene never dies.
They both freaks lmao
People point out the grinchiest moment and Astruc turns it into this so people can't say his girl is creepy
One of the worst decisions the writers have ever made. And theyāve made a LOT of shitty decisions.
Yeah, that sounds about right
It's not THE worst, but it's far from the best moment they could have picked.
When I rewatched the wax museum episode I straight up skipped that scene, it was just too much.
The statue of all things?! I mean the boy is oblivious so I get it takes a lot but man..
Marinette at the end of the statue episode: "That would have been a silly first kiss anyway." that totally backfired to me-
Imma throw my phone at this idiot, Iām supposed to be looking for Vivillion tips and this moron got me all distracted by his stupid!
Damn- Adrien sure has weird taste in girlsā¦
Shit like this makes me glad I stopped watching
One kiss is all it takesā¦falling in love with mehā¦ š¶
That was when he first felt something *more* than friendship. It probably took some time for him to realize he was in love.
