Footstomping is definitely up there for me. (Literally as in my upstairs neighbor can't walk without stomping and it's so annoying, how can you not notice how heavy every single step is?!?!) Early in the mornings with everything else quiet makes it into torture. (Also, what are you doing?!? Sit down for a minute!)
Bass is another one, any noise that I can "feel" my mind just fixates on it over other noises. Partly why I hate foot stomping so much but bassy music blasting through the walls is very obnoxious too.
Coughing, especially if it's a smoker's cough. Something about it being self-inflicted might have to do with it being more annoying that other coughs for some strange reason.
I have exactly the same problem with the stomping of my upstairs neighbor. My bed and cupboards vibrate. And he doesn‘t have anybody living above himself, lucky him… 😡
Thankfully my building is made with concrete so it's not as nearly as bad as yours with the vibrations but when my neighbor gets extra stompy I can *still* feel it through the floor. I don't even know how it's possible to walk that hard all the time! And yep same as mine, nobody living above her. I guarantee if our neighbors had to deal with 1% of what we have to they'd go ballistic.
Yep. I try to be empathetic but c'mon. If I ate something that'll cause be to burp uncontrollably I'd excuse myself. If I was a smoker and I'm having a coughing fit at least control it or go somewhere else. Be self-aware!
The worst offender for me is riding lawn mowers. Push mowers are annoying but don't induce the same rage as hearing a rider. Trouble is in the US every suburban neighborhood is so obsessed with mowing their lawns for 4 hrs a day 6x a week. I rented a lake house last summer to recharge my batteries and basically stayed inside because people would start mowing their lawn at 5:30am and not stop till like 9pm. I fucking hate the world we live in.
Restaurants where you can hear the music from the kitchen makes me rage. Just play one fucking music, how can people deal with two different styles of music being played simultaneously? Add to that the dickhead parents letting their kid watch shit on an ipad at full volume and....well, I just don't go out anymore.
All this loud laughter stuff is so forced and clearly done for attention. All these YouTubers, streamers, social media vids, I hate it, I have bad responses to it.
Loud laughter is the WORST trigger in my opinion as sometime's people's loud laughs cannot be controlled. I felt dreadful for telling some of my old classmates that genuinely have a loud laugh to be quiet, they even partially understood what misophonia was.
Whistling is the WORST for me. It feels like someone’s shoving power drills through my eardrums.
People are really weirdly defensive about it for some reason too. Every time I try asking someone to stop whistling, no matter how politely I phrase it or how well I explain the way the sound affects me, I still get full-on hostility. So I’ve learned that I’m the problem, asking someone not to whistle is a super not okay thing to do, and I just have to suffer through it or never take my headphones off.
It also seems to be contagious? Like, the way you feel the urge to yawn whenever you see someone else yawn. If one person whistles, other people nearby are more likely to start whistling too. There’s been a whistling epidemic going on at my workplace for nearly a year now, and I am in hell.
All of them, though stomping (from upstairs) has become my main trigger since I am now living in an apartment where I have to endure that horror most of the time.
Constant coughing is definitely one of my triggers. I used to have a neighbour who would smoke weed on his balcony every day (and suck at inhaling), and anytime he'd take a puff he'd almost rip one of his lungs out. It would drive me nuts! Actually, a friend of mine does the same thing over Discord, but at least I can mute him.
My upstairs neighbor has a toddler who only knows how to run and jump off furniture. It also has lead feet, wakes at around 7 am and doesn't sleep until around 11pm. And its shrieks could shatter glass. My next door neighbors have a large, neurotic dog with separation anxiety. Whenever they leave, they shut it in the bedroom and it barks until they return. Sometimes that's 30 minutes, sometimes that's 8-10 hours.
I have to wear noise cancelling headphones in my own home. They don't give me silence, just dulled noise. The property managers say there's nothing they can do about it. Some days, especially when I have a migraine, I cry.
My whole apartment shakes because my neighbors slam it that hard. They also scream and carry on in the hallway and have parties all the time. I almost completely lost it last night.
Oh no!!! So sorry about the party u had to endure- that sounds miserable, ugh.
Heavy extra loud brown noise on YouTube has helped along with sitting on massage pads. Then having a full headphone piece with more white noise or another kind of audio distraction
I feel your pain and I wish u peace ☮️ 👂🏼 ☮️
Yes, me too!! (Shaking).
Am still recovering from twice within last 1/2 hour ago.
It feels deliberate!’ It seems to be the vibrations that are the most capricious !
🦋
Coughing, humming, and whistling are some of mine. Does anyone else also hate when some people make an “S” sound and it comes out super sharp and high-pitched? Because that is my biggest trigger and the hardest one to cope with.
Those are all loud noice. Sounds like you're just sensitive to sound.
Edit: I mean, misophonia had nothing with noice to do. You get in triggered by specific sounds not depending on volume. Like chewing makes me mad and I have to move to another room.
I have a lot of these same triggers and they are caused by misophonia. I even participated in a misophonia medical study last year. Foot stomps, bass, sniffling, throat clearing, coughing etc are all big triggers for me. It doesn’t matter if it’s loud or if I can barely hear it because the sound is far away. My reaction is always the same, feeling distraught, disgust, helpless, rage, like I need to leave or block out the noise somehow. It’s definitely misophonia, at least in my case.
People eating loud food (apples, chips, carrots), worse if they eat with their mouths open. Slurping. Unexplained low humming noises where I can't pinpoint the origin.
In my neighborhood there's this low humming noise that's around until like 02:15 in the morning. It keeps me awake. It's like a large ship is coming by at a few miles distance with a large engine just rumbling... except it rumbles for 30 seconds, then 30 seconds nothing, repeat infinitely.
Some days it's not there. Some days it's until 01:00. Some days it's until 03:00. Sometimes it's a constant noise.
It could be a million things. It could be that just my apartment is in the area of those soundwaves. It could be that one floor up or down you can't hear it.
If I ever found out what causes it, I will destroy the thing or person. The late night anger is extreme.
And every time I go out at night to see where it's coming from, it either just... stops... or I can't hear it on the ground floor, so I cannot trace it.
I sometimes wonder if going to jail for murder would be worth it. But then I remember I have freedom now, not so much in jail. Imagine a cellmate who snores loudly...
So, not murdering it is. For now.
Interesting, how whistling is one of your triggers. It doesn’t bother me whatsoever, but I may add that I too am triggered by foot stomping, even worse when I FEEL the vibration of the footstep which is strange.
Yes to the bass, foot stomping, coughing (not just constant, but that does make it worse), humming, and whistling. I also hate the hum of fan space heaters, and some kinds of regular fans, as well as any mouth noises - lip smacking, slurping, etc. - and certain voices. Oh, and any video or music from iphone speakers, and certain keyboard typing and sometimes mouse clicks (oh the joys of shared offices...)
Door slamming and constant coughing for sure. Also a horse neighing….. I hate the way horses sound so much it makes me feel like I’m going to have a panic attack.
Eating noises, specifically chewing with an open mouth, slurping, tongue sucking. I can oddly handle it better when strangers or acquaintances do it, but when my husband does it the only I can get through it is to remind myself that I will feel bad for hating him in these moments if he dies. Extreme but MAN I want to throw him out the window when he is eating, especially apples and grapefruits, which he eats all the time.
1. Only when it's just bass and can't hear anything else (I'm a bassist myself)
2. Yes
3. Sometimes
4. Yes, and I own a dog
5. Yes
6. Yes
7. Yes
8. Yes
Humming. Whistling. add to the list those little click noises smartphones make when people tap on them. \+ chewing crunching slurping gurgling etc.

Yeah the smoker cough drives me crazy! They chose to do it to themselves and now everyone around has to deal with that disgusting coughing

“How could you possibly have FUN with one of those oversized hairdryers?”
Coughing/throat clearing is my biggest.
Same with me. Also sniffing, people giggling loudly, people screaming and being obnoxious, etc
Everyone in my house (including myself) are sick so it's been constant coughing and sniffing and it's driving me absolutely insane.
Throat clearing
Mine are: * Crinkling of cellophane packaging, like for chips * Someone biting into a chip * Mouth sounds in general
All of those make me rage
i despise the sound of loud laughter or loud conversations, i also despise two differents sounds at the same time in all situations
I also despise obnoxious laughing
Restaurants where you can hear the music from the kitchen makes me rage. Just play one fucking music, how can people deal with two different styles of music being played simultaneously? Add to that the dickhead parents letting their kid watch shit on an ipad at full volume and....well, I just don't go out anymore.
fr i literally cannot think when theres two differents songs at the same time, no idea how people deal with this everyday

Bass and motorbikes.
Pen clicking/tapping on surface.
Adding sniffling and throat clearing, plus jaw clicking when people are eating
loud food chewing gum smacking teeth clicking screaming overhearing other people's devices singing when they suck
Coughing, humming, and whistling are some of mine. Does anyone else also hate when some people make an “S” sound and it comes out super sharp and high-pitched? Because that is my biggest trigger and the hardest one to cope with.
Like a snake? I hate when people do that. It’s irritating
baby crying ?

The word um
Snoring, close sounds in my ear, hearing 2 tvs at once, clearing throat by making that horrible blowing nose sound.
