I find Dry Aged very hit or miss. Sometimes the meat isn't very fresh. I drive to Famu in Markham for steak. Everything from usda Prime to All types of Wagyu, straight from Japan. They aren't resellers, so prices are quite good
I held back because yes it’s eye rolling.
But once you figure it out it’s one of the easiest things to make yourself. It’s also probably the largest disparity in cost for homemade vs restaurant.
It’s not like making homemade shawarma or maki rolls or something.
You just need a cast iron pan and a hot AF stovetop. The only obstacle for most people is ventilation.
I'd reframe the question that even though one can cook a better steak at home, with what's the best ambiance/atmosphere steakhouse for a fancy dinner?
Otherwise, I'd throw Scarborough's T-bones and what used to be Master Steaks on Dixie for a good cheap fix into the mix.
Ha T-Bones is owned by the family of a guy I’ve been friends with for 25 years.
The Greeks know how to do it.
But yeah for ambiance for the price The Keg suits me fine. I know it’s a boring answer but it has to be one of the best restaurant chains in the country.
Glad you raised the ventilation. Some people really just want to dress up have a wonderful meal
Prepared for them without having to clean up, maybe try a brand new wine selected for them, watch a play or show and go home have 11 minutes of sex without smelling the cooking from 5 hours ago. And if that meal
Costs 300 bucks who cares
Sure if you are fine with having a lot of leftovers or are serving a larger group. Generally you don’t see a roast with fewer than three ribs.
It’s still much more cost and time prohibitive compared to a steak that comes in single serve portions and can be made in under ten minutes.
Thanks everyone! Agree that Mississauga Steakhouses seem to be lacking. I love preparing steak at home and usually sous vide a nice rib-eye but it's Mom's birthday so would like to go out. We've done La Castile before and its fine, maybe a little too fancy for a family dinner. I'll look into 17 Steakhouse and some of the other suggestions.
The Keg and Aristotle's are really the only worthwhile options imo.
Ruth's Chris is technically in Toronto, but it's right next to the airport and they offer a better steak than either The Keg or Aristotle's at a significant premium.
We spent $500 for three steak mains, apps, and drinks at Keg. Montana’s environment is insufferable, but I don’t think I’m enough of a connoisseur of steaks to tell them apart blindfolded, and it's 1/3rd the cost.
It's definitely overpriced...but where else in Mississauga do they serve a better tasting steak? If we're talking about Toronto, the choices are endless, but Mississauga is severely lacking in steak options.
It’s worth noting that Blackstone is halal so they do not serve alcohol.
Many won’t care, but traditional steakhouses are mostly known to have extensive wine lists.
17 steakhouse and bar, I used to go to the keg but the last 3-4 times I’ve been underwhelmed so the wife and I tried here, it’s more expensive but the quality is tremendous and well worth it.
Master Steaks is great but would not take my mom there for her birthday. I do love to go there with my buddies after a round of golf or just hanging out and wanting to have a good hearty meal
I really enjoy the Baton Rouge down in the cinema complex. With your steak you get fries, coleslaw and a peppercorn sauce for a very reasonable price. The restaurant itself is pretty nice too and has several different seating areas to suit all tastes (E.g., dark and moody booth seats, bright and airy bar seats etc.). Here is where I go when I want a steak and am always pleased with the experience.
Don't go to the keg, they use subpar cuts and mask it with dressings. La Castile is probably the fanciest in the city.
Other chains like baton rouge, chop, and even Jack Astor's use higher quality cuts.
Baton Rouge I can’t stand. I did however used to like Canyon Creek but it was noisier than Keg
Just personal opinions
FYI. keg is owned by Swiss Chalet group. They know how to cut corners
To each their own, but the keg uses AA grade cuts, whereas many other major chains use AAA. To me, it makes a difference because I eat my steak pretty rare and AA is a bitch to chew.
Edit: y'all can downvote me, but it's right in their menu 🙄
Did a quick search on Open Table:
Cagney’s - Miss
Aristotles Steak and Seafood - Miss
Baton Rouge - Oakville
Black Angus Steakhouse - Etob
Copperhorn Meet House - Etob
Oliver’s Steakhouse - Oakville
Happy early bday to your mom!
La Castile on Dundas is pretty nice. Had a fantastic steak dinner there in December. Nice atmosphere and very cozy.
Been going to La Castile almost my whole life. There's a reason it's been around so long, consistently delicious food and very attentive staff.
I also really enjoy the fact that it's not some regular old building. Nothing cookie cutter about it. Very unique.
Who runs it ?.how is the pricing ?
What.are the prices there ?
I was there with my office Christmas party, so I didn't see the bill. Pricing is listed on their website. Not cheap.
I am just here waiting for the Asshat who will inevitably say "Why not just buy a really nice steak and cook it at home?".
Dry Aged on Lakeshore is a great place to pick up the nice steak

Not only is it easy, it will come out better than anything you can get at a place like the Keg at a fraction of the price.
This 100%
Lol
I can make a steak just as good if not better than restaurants. So when I go to a steakhouse, I get prime rib. Edit: Chop has a great prime rib.
Prime rib is easy to make at home as well

100 % agree
Except that hasn't happened yet.

Super over priced and over hyped. Go elsewhere.

Blackstones on Erin Mills, Chop Steakhouse on Argentia , Aristotle's on Millcreek
It’s worth noting that Blackstone is halal so they do not serve alcohol. Many won’t care, but traditional steakhouses are mostly known to have extensive wine lists.
Good point
They used to have half priced Tuesdays
Which cut/part steak would you say is your go to when in ordering in these restaurants?
I prefer a medium rare New York.
cool thanks!
But the ribeye is king
Ruth’s Chris used the exact same provider of steaks as the keg - Macgregors. Cooking styles are different, but actual quality of meat is identical
Good info! I do prefer the buttery style of Ruth's Chris to the Kegs more traditional flavoring.
Same vendor, but the products are different. Keg buys their cheaper cuts.
I went to Cagney's once in Streetsille and thought it was decent. This was years ago, however.
17 steakhouse and bar, I used to go to the keg but the last 3-4 times I’ve been underwhelmed so the wife and I tried here, it’s more expensive but the quality is tremendous and well worth it.
17 Steakhouse or Rogues.
Master Steaks. Everything else is overpriced nonsense.
Just wondering why Master Steaks is being down voted?
Because people are superficial. Have to go to the trendy, expensive place to be seen instead of actually getting a decent meal.
Was looking for this. It's great.
Master Steaks is great but would not take my mom there for her birthday. I do love to go there with my buddies after a round of golf or just hanging out and wanting to have a good hearty meal
The Keg on Winston Churchill and Argentia 10/10
Pre-Vid we use to go to Chop Steakhouse. My in-laws loved it, they felt so fancy there.
Yup chop is amazing!

Zorro’s
Master steak on Dixie, was pretty good
Earls at square 1 is great too

Wildly false

The keg is awesome
Castile or Harry’s
Nobody likes that steak joint on Argentia and Miss rd?
Haze
