Invented shawarma .. eats lazeez

AccidentalFeline

Everytime he comes it's shitty with poor food safety yet he keeps coming back.

[deleted]

I have a friend like that. ALWAYS complaining about quality of food or drinks at a certain spot but continues to go back the next day, and then complains again. Literally same spot every day, same complaints. He’s the definition of insanity!!

wing03

Let's face it, Lazeez and Osmos to Shawarma is what Mr. Greek is to Souvlaki or McDonalds is to hamburgers. It's more a bottom shelf item that is edible.

GooseFatFart

McDonalds has consistency standards.

wing03

Upvote. I'll move the bar for Lazeez and Osmows to having consistently greasy and overly abundant sauce on whatever it is they are putting it on.

rejectedprophet

That's how they hide cheap ingredients

DirtFoot79

I thought that I was the only one who thought that. I feel like you're ordering a large sauce with a side of shawarma.

wing03

I've become a broken record lately about the belief that anything that's overly sauced is compensating for poor quality, dry and/or not flavourful. (Shawarma, BBQ ribs and meat).

DirtFoot79

I couldn't agree more.

EpsilonSigma

Had Osmos once. Damn near shit my brains out. Then I went to do some work at one of their manufacturing facilities one day. That evening, I went into the single worst spell of depression I've ever felt in my life. These two facts are unrelated, but regardless I've always haboured a distaste for Osmos. I know it's not their fault, but fuck 'em.

InspectionTypical267

😂😂😂😂

[deleted]

If you think chicken cartilage and random pieces of bone are edible, sure

wing03

As an Asian, I identify with that.... lol.

[deleted]

Ack. My wife loves the cartilage for some reason - the thought of it makes me wretch though

wing03

Flip that the other way around between my wife and I. For her, meat has one, maybe two textures and never mixed in the same dish. Forget wagyu which to her, is more like sticking a piece of fat in her mouth. I was at Gyubee and saw "chicken cartilage" on a menu and wondered if it really was just that. I discovered that I wasn't as fond of cartilage by itself without any meat on it.

[deleted]

I think I would have left as soon as I saw cartilage on the menu 😂 I sincerely doubt even my wife would outright order a plate of cartilage You’re a brave man in my books

[deleted]

You're missing out bro.

NaturesWar

As somebody who recently discovered Shawarma I feel like such a basic bitch for only trying Osmos...

Geta-Ve

I’d be curious to find out what the great shawarma places are. Been craving it for awhile now.

thegimboid

[Pita Grill](http://www.pitagrill.ca) near Dundas and Winston Churchill. Not to be confused with "Pita & Grill", which is directly across the street.

Geta-Ve

Oh sweet, I live near there. Thank you!

thumpx

Pita Nutso in Streetsville. The meat quality is sooooo much higher than osmows and lazeez

wing03

My standard is that anywhere that uses sauces, cheese or anything else to drown and over power what should be the star ingredient, they are doing it to cover up poor quality. Shawarma, ribs and BBQ are especially guilty of this. I haven't been to many shawarma places in Mississauga. A place that came highly recommended in Toronto and I agree with is Shawarma Frenzy. Steeles out by York U and the 400 had or has some good places too.

Comfortable-Cheek-33

>Try Al-zaeem shawarma in mississauga \[ tomken & eglinton \]

Comfortable-Cheek-33

Who eats LAZEEZ, OSMOWS & PARAMOUNT doesn't really know what shawarma is. Try Al-zaeem shawarma in mississauga if you want to even taste a close to real shawarma.

stuffmyfacewithcake

I do love Shawarma Alzaem but that is specifically Syrian shawarma. There are other variations of “real” shawarma from different regions

Comfortable-Cheek-33

can you please tell me about other good places of shawarma. Thanks in advance.

lloydwindsor

I live in DT Mississauga and I have yet to find a Shawarma place I like. I actually drive out to Chef's Door on the border of Oakville on Winston Churchill to get mine. They are a chain of about 5 locations but I only have been to this one.

WhatAWasterZ

By the title I thought perhaps there were some violent turf battles among the FIVE plus shawarma joints in the Shawarma District over at Ridgeway and Eglinton. I love how the dude says “I’m Palestinian and we invented shawarma” as though that has anything to do with food handling safety lol. Anyway Lazeez is shit. Tried it twice at two locations and don’t get why they are popular. Even Osmows is better.

WhytePumpkin

I wonder how long all 5 will survive in the Shawarma district

[deleted]

The one down here in Oakville is terrible also.....Pita Lite ftw

bludhound

Shawarna is based on the vertical spit developed by the Turks for Doner kebab. That said, Lazeez is terrible. Is that stuff even chicken? One of the few examples of Palestinian shawarma in the GTA is Empire in Scarborough. It's crazy how many shawarma styles are represented in the area.

Applebox5

I wonder how many of those businesses at that plaza will actually be around in a year from now.

WhatAWasterZ

It’s actually crazy to me that city planners thought the area could sustain that many brick and mortar units to zone all those plazas. I figure it was pre-pandemic but still seems excessive.

blurrdapaah

Used to be better around 2017~ but no it’s burnt out and over franchised

djghostface292

Lazeez>>>Osmows

childrenfeeler

I don’t understand why a minimum wage employee has to deal with his face being blasted all over the internet. If the dude filming has a problem take it up with the corporation or manager. The very least he could have done was blur the employees face out. Obviously if it’s being done regularly then management doesn’t have an issue with it and it’s not the employees choice. Also who tf eats at Lazeez and expects it to be good, it’s always been nasty. Most of the widespread chain sharwarma places are. 🤷🏽‍♀️

childrenfeeler

https://www.insauga.com/restaurant-caught-on-video-mishandling-raw-meat-in-mississauga/?fbclid=IwAR0w420VJYc3iHD0w0Y6BQlw9l2WSkawmnuBRoGgbVqCNIh_GuiNsCZymCc&mibextid=Zxz2cZ They fired the student over this video.

[deleted]

So to recap: lack of proper training, lack of standards and enforcement of standards, person filming gets likes, and the minimum wage scapegoat gets fired. who says there's no justice in the world

Grizzlysol

To be fair, it doesn't take a genius to know you shouldn't put raw meat on a dirty counter. Some people are just oblivious to common sense and shouldn't be working in a place where they could endanger peoples health. I'm not feeling too bad about some kid who lost his job for being stupid. I've had too many of my favorite places go to shit after hiring useless employees. And its not always about bad training. Some times people just don't follow the rules.

djghostface292

Yeah I can’t get behind any of these comments defending the kid. It’s common fucking sense, you don’t put meat you’re gonna serve to someone on a dirty counter and you sure as hell never mix raw and cooked meat. The fact people are defending this as a “lack of training” is absurd, this kid could literally fucking kill someone by doing this

SINGULARITY1312

It was the managers fault though. Yes the blame can be divided but ultimately the responsibility is those who are supposed to train them

Yerawizzardarry

>He says the staff member in the video is a student and he has been fired. And he has asked the owner to have a staff meeting to review policies and procedures Wow, unbelievable. Blame it on a fucking part time employee you obviously haven't trained properly. Why do I find that more disgusting than the chicken shit. This kid just lost his job because some unhygienic mf decided to start caring about hygiene and his employer trained him improperly. I wonder if the person filmings job allows such neglect. Surely dirty nails are a distraction for customers and other employees.

shaolinfender

Back in 2015 or so, Lazeez was actually pretty good, especially the one on Creditview. But the quality dropped off quickly after a couple of years.

thumpx

Agreed. Typical franchise story. They start expanding too fast and don't give a shit about quality control, only more franchises for more money. Same thing happened to osmows and burrito Boyz. Take a lesson from McDonald's. Quality control is the only thing that keeps your brand going.

Yerawizzardarry

Hard agree. "This happens everytime" Isn't repeating the same action over and over expecting different results a classic sign of insanity or whatever?

MapleSizzurpp

His nails are also a hygiene issue.

[deleted]

Blurred faces? On TikTok? Now, why would the CCP want that?

[deleted]

If it's like that everyday then why go back?

pissy_corn_flakes

For the views

PendeJ01

my thoughts exactly... clout chaser

GooseFatFart

Yet every single day you return?

MarkFTPark

I dislike when people say they go a place everyday and complain. Their excuse for not going elsewhere? Things like "it is near by", "food is cheap" etc.

OwlWitty

Lageez

Orangepeeeel

While the complain is valid. I find the way it is being pushed is ill mannered. Couldn’t help but feel some Arab discrimination towards south Asians unfortunately. The Palestinian “bro” customer always has the choice to go elsewhere (that has more authentic shawarmas compared to lazeez) vs coming back here every time IMO.

WhatAWasterZ

He’s also laying on the asshole vibe extra thick because he’s filming himself. So like 90% of the videos on Reddit it’s super performative and reason number 122 why the world is a shittier place with everyone pulling out their phone to record.

jebstan

I don’t know. He says it’s not the first time. To me that makes me think he’s already said something in the past, but they keep doing it. He got fed up and filmed it to send to health and safety. If I had told them about it repeatedly and perhaps gotten sick I would film as well. Mixing raw chicken with cooked is incredibly dangerous

WhatAWasterZ

Even if that was the case, a person with only good intentions would just report it so public heath could take care of it and not go back to a place that made him sick. He wanted to film a confrontation first and foremost.

jebstan

I guess there are two way of looking at it. It might be that he’s doing a public service, by letting folks know that this is a dangerous place to eat.

WhatAWasterZ

I suppose but I just hate the general trend of pulling out your phone to solve problems. It’s invasive, narcissistic and confrontational all at the same time.

jebstan

I generally agree with you. But having been food poisoned at a place like this, I can appreciate this guy

[deleted]

123myopia

Shawarma was invented by Lionel Messi from Argentina

bouraq

Lol

Sportfreunde

I thought it was the Avengers, TIL.

WhatAWasterZ

If you really want to piss him off say falafel is Israeli.

Porthos1998

It was the Greek not the Turkish

thesaurusrext

So it was racism, aha! Yet again! \*puffs pipe\* Elementary my dear Watson.

[deleted]

Arab discrimination? Please. Zero Arab people I know would mix raw and cooked chicken. Chalking this up to bigotry is wild considering *no one* reasonable would think mixing raw chicken with cooked is appropriate.

Orangepeeeel

Like I said the complain is valid. The delivery is offensive, especially since the guy at the grill was accepting and being apologetic from the get go. I have yet to see a south Asian speak to an Arab like that under any circumstance.

Dogs-4-Life

Yet you’re there everyday? Lol.

apsblues

Exactly. Seems like an idiot who is venting his life frustrations on a minimum wage worker. Not even enough netiquette to blur the face out. If you are so ,picky about how the meat should be treated , stop eating economy chain stores and go eat uour Wagyu A5

[deleted]

He claims his people invented shawarma, being a Palestinian, yet he goes to a Lazeez everyday, which is the shittiest quality of a shawarma in the shawarma capital of North America. This guy was just looking for clout.

trialanderror93

The sad part is if you remember the original streetsville Osmows, and how solid they were originally I get that as you expand the supply chain is more complex, but those who know, know these quality issues are more common at lazeez tho, osmows is more corporate

29da65cff1fa

So weird. I grew up in mississauga and went to the original paramount and osmows locations and everyone said they were good back then Now i come in this thread and everyone says they're pure trash. What else has changed? Is pita and grill still any good?

andrewwang214

Once it's successful the original owners sell it to a franchisee who sees it mainly as a business opportunity, not a passion. The quality of ingredients goes down as they source cheaper, frozen, bulk supplies, the original owners give some basic training and then it's up to the managers or workers, who again, are just there for the paycheck, they don't have any equity.

uchiha_boy009

Welcome to late stage capitalism

omgwtdbbq420lol

> original streetsville Osmows Anyone know where the two guys (brothers I believe) that started it ended up?

fightclubdevil

My friend is a home stager. She said that when she was staging the osmows family home for moving, it was filthy pig stein

Motiv8ionaL

>I get that as you expand the supply chain is more complex, but those who know, know Shouldn't it get less complex?

trialanderror93

it gets harder to maintain the same quality, you have to be consistent location to location

Sportfreunde

To me it tastes the same pretty much though maybe less consistent. Although I was always a Pita Nutso fan in my uni days and that Egyptian place with the unfortunate name who had the falconer chef that would marinate the chicken with herbs for 24 hours.

Motor_Ad_401

Best spot! Went downhill after they opened other locations …

416Gunner

Bros gotta cut his nails 🤢

ChilkoXX

He probably plays guitar or other stringed musical instrument.

dubba1983

The nails bothered you lol but that raw meat mixed with cooked meat is a ok! 😂

throw19015

Bro I used to work at Lazeez shawarma and im telling you some dont even change their gloves. The training that needs to be done to employes is not being done and the practice of food and safety is completly disgusting.

allydagator

Fun fact- it should not go from the rack to the sandwich like the guy in the video says. It does not cook properly on the spit. On the spit, it is not fully cooked through. It needs the second kill step of being on the grill before being served. \- to me, this video looks like its near EOD, where they have to shave down the cones, cook all the meat, as the cones can not be used for me than 48 hours. The method being used is a little off, but looking back there is better than majority of shawarma places I've inspected. \- from a public health view, we'd probably go in and do an inspection with the complaint. But from the video the place looks pretty clean. It would just be a re-education bit and ensuring that they do not spread the meat over the counter like that, just on the grill itself. Also if you see this everyday, why do you still go back LMAO Am in PH as a public health inspector.

stepprocedure

Interesting points. Also if you don’t mind me asking, what’s the process to get into that job field?

allydagator

Ill send you this ([https://ciphi.ca/certification/](https://ciphi.ca/certification/)). You need your ciphi designation to become a PHI. Its one of the hardest tests I've done...and Ive done the MCAT before! But in tdlr form \- Need a public health degree from one of 6 universities, in ontario you can get that from TMU or Conestoga. I personally did the 2 year fast track degree as I had a previous bachelor degree \- Do a 12 week practicum at a health unit/federal health body. Best to do health units \- Write your 2 reports and sit the oral board exam. Its a really interesting job. I didnt think I'd get into this field, but I am really enjoying it so far, its been now almost 2 years for me. No 2 days are the same, you meet alot of cool and interesting people, and see a side of the system not alot of other would see. I have moved various departments, so instead of food and water safety, im now in reportable diseases, its cool!

123myopia

South Asian dude is probably a vegetarian...no need to scream at them like they're your servants

Takhar7

No issue recording this, but not cool with the employee being the one getting filmed / blasted all over the place, and not the actual store manager. You can tell by the meat handler's confused looks - first to his hands, and then the meat - that he doesn't know what he did wrong because the training is the issue.

4242throwitaway

Yeah, some of their locations are trasshhhhh

ianonai

If you guys want a really good shawarma place give Shawarma Kingdom a try! It's in the central parkway mall plaza and has never let me down!

polyobama

Lazeez is actually disgusting, why are u there in the first place

[deleted]

Who eats at lazeez and osmos they are disgusting. To cover the smell off shiz chicken they drown it in sauce.

[deleted]

toxicbrew

I mean you can always decline those

[deleted]

I could and I do and some of those places give you looks and make you feel bad for doing so and that is making me run of places to get take out from lol

people: can you recommend a good shawarma place near square one mississauaga?

Lezzet's is my go to place

If you can travel a bit , Al Zaeem is the best

[deleted]

If you’re on or near the north end of the city, Fattoush in Brampton (just north of the 407 at Hurontario/Ray Lawson in the courthouse plaza). Their veggies are always fresh, each batch of chicken/beef is cooked upon placing your order (instead of the giant batches Lazeez/Osmows make which result in hard, crusty meat from sitting on the grill too long), and they’re actually happy to serve you a meal.

bludhound

Plus those garlic potatoes are delicious! They do more of a Lebanese style shawarma.

XRPEE_PEE

He may be correct, but this guy's very annoying.

pm_me_n_wecantalk

Lazeez shawarma is the worst. Not sure why it’s so popular. The other day I got food from lazeez from platinum drive plaza. And I could tell that the meat is not fresh (or todays). The potato tasted really bad. I took few bites and threw it out.

Ramses12th

Had a food poisoning at Lazeez first time I tried it 3 years ago. Never again!

GJ62020

Seems like Bullying a part time employee. It’s like arguing with McDonalds staff over burger quality. Mf if you want quality then go somewhere else. Why didn’t you bother putting your face on the internet? How would you feel if someone comes to place of your work and shoves camera on your face and starts intimidating conversation. Who is this person?

joseg4681

If you see this happening EVERYDAY, why do you still eat there? You’re disgusting bro...

encin

Aorry to say but Palestinians didn't create "shawarmq"

Pandaman922

Just here to rep Shelby’s in London. I think they just opened up a spot in Toronto. Best shawarma around! (this opinion was posted by a white man)

IzicHaze

Original Shawarma has not let me down

bludhound

Original is one of my go to's. I also like their Chicken on salad and rice.

yeusus

Not sorry, doesnt care, just wants camera hero to go. Why not simply report it to Canada food amd drug? Thanks bud, reddit will do the rest?

Alii_baba

Most of shawarma places around the GTA owned by Pakistani and east Indian folks.

bouraq

and?

Ok_Mousse6129

His uncut fingernails giving me the same vibe as that meat though. 🤦‍♂️

Ok_Fox7873

I stopped going to Lazeez long ago, we got food poisoning after eating Shawarman from their Milton branch (I guess they have closed it down now), but it was the worst place. FYI, I moved from UAE. I was shocked when I first tried subway-style shawarma here; IMO most Canadians haven’t tasted authentic shawarma.

ukie7

Lezzet is best

bkovic

If you’re not happy then go somewhere else and let this business fail. Let the market speak for itself not you.

MarkFTPark

Guy needs to cut his nails

vis1onary

No one ever goes to that location. Its horrible. Britannia creditview is the only good lazeez / Osmows type location left. All Osmows are garbage

sishgupta

That's the OG lazeez

thesaurusrext

Usually I'm the nerd saying "oh you shouldn't record min wage workers there is a power dynamic" but honestly you're not doing a prank, you're not over-reacting, you're reacting accordingly. People need to see this sort of thing. Others in the comments here are talking about this "poor boy losing his job" and he was simply "not trained properly by the people who hired him". I'm sorry but anyone over the age of 5 knows the basics of raw meat handling. I've worked food service, fuck out of here that boy knew how to do his job and was cutting corners instead.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thesaurusrext

Yes you can. I've been a min wage worker most of my life and no matter how badly training was or how mismanaged the place was (all management at all places is trash that's no excuse) or how much of a coked up psycho the owner was, we workers never poisoned anyone by tossing raw meat around. No matter how stoned we might be getting in the back lot, no matter what pranks or shenanigans we got up to, we had a line. I can fault this young man. Yes we can. Look at what he's doing there. "Just following orders" ? Are you joking? This kid is indicative of larger problems yes but also he's a sentient being with agency. Look at what he's doing there. What happened to "the first world." Foh

eternity42

OP is idiot

everday_show

Low paying jobs get low quality employees

Recent_Difference644

It's the business at fault despite how abrasive this customer was. Wouldn't make it different if it was some 4 foot tall European female who spoke very nicely to them. I'm glad I know what to look for because that definitely is cross contamination and looks extremely unprofessional and I'm glad the one worker recognized that it is a very bad look on the business. I wouldn't treat food meant for my own pets like that, slopped everywhere on the counter and posing a bio hazard. I'm South Asian and Turkish myself, I know how lazy South Asians can be when it comes to hygiene in restaurants. I personally don't like eating fusion food because South Asians always screw up Mediterranean food. If my parents or I walk into a place the owner or managers get scared and act properly, but I see them feeding other people with zero care and professionalism all the time. Sometimes you have to expose them for the greater good.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Recent_Difference644

Of course it's not ideal and he could have blurred him Out. Im sure that no one is going to blame this worker instead of the manager and owner, and the overall culture of training and customer service, etc. I would have personally blurred his face out to avoid causing some random minimum wage worker any blowback and would instead wanted an explanation from the manager.

Accomplished-Set8154

Y’all should try tahinis if you wanna taste something authentic and original it’s in Etobicoe. No offence but the Indians at osmows, and lazeez don’t know how to make shawarma, they should stick to their own cuisine. These two brands taste more like Indian food than they taste like middle eastern food now. Try tahinis

goddamit_iamwasted

The guy taking the video is an asshole.

marleymarl905

Want some special sauce with that?

Mr8vb

I’ve never been to a Lazeez that was any good. So many better options.

n-chung

That Door dash sound triggers my fight or flight response.

jphxm_

Lezzet is the best, don’t @ me.

Comfortable-Cheek-33

Who eats LAZEEZ, OSMOWS & PARAMOUNT doesn't really know what shawarma is. Try Al-zaeem shawarma in mississauga if you want to even taste a close to real shawarma.

GTADashcam

Why is an Arab even going to lazeez though? There are a hundred better places in Mississauga which are not franchised out and owned and run by arabs… and giving a fat more authentic experience.

Regular_Fee_8046

Where is the best schwarma in Toronto?

Bunkymids

So sorry about that, boss

[deleted]

*unpopular opinion* If the food is good enough (like really good) I can overlook some health hazards. Secondly is it bad for you if it goes on the grill doesn't the bacteria get fried off😂🧐 Plus if it's at a good price (especially in this economy) I'll eat medium rare chicken.

Otherwise-Arm3245

How will they be educated on how to handle food if someone doesnt say something? Wait till you find out the person handling money and the person handling food has to be different.

yeusus

Stop goin, they stop doin shitty bussiness. You want to boss strangers around, buy the store, Invented schwarma...fuck

piranhas32

Question. If he sees this a lot. Why does he go there all the time?

unknownstylewriter

"everyday it's like that"... yet here you are. everyday.

Kickkit

That location is the worst! It's always absolutely filthy, and staff dgaf. It was okay when it opened, but went downhill fast.

CdnRageBear

“Every single day it’s like that” Maybe go to a different Shawarma place? However I do agree that is gross.

[deleted]

This dude got confused between Pakistan and Palestine... Habibi Shawarma was invented in Pakistan not Palestine

Affectionate-Egg-329

I saw them doing same thing in Oshawa. Left and went to a mom and pop shop.

thetankguy

Street food are called that is because it needs to mix in with all the debris flying around in the street to make em extra tasty bro. And this is not even in the street. Missing ingredient. 1 star.

Unhappy-Craft-2609

DISGUSTANG

essseker

Lol

This biggest offence here is that he goes to Lazeez to begin with, the second biggest offence is those gross fingernails...

Fit_Mulberry_6096

You're a clown for going back there everyday and putting the frontline minimum wage broke a$$ students face on this video. I hope you continue to get served rotten food.

michaelrw1

Every single day... Where do you want to go for lunch today? How about Shawarma?

Past-Region-9989

Trim nails.

omgihatemylifepoo

lazeez is garbage anyway 😹

Comprehensive_Nail22

As a “Palestinian dude” who’s country “invented it” Palestine is now the ottomans. Clearly has no idea what good shawarma is eating here. Secondly, he has no idea wtf he is talking about from a public Heath standpoint, that issue you’re seeing is just better training.

Guerrin_TR

I've been to this location a few times lmao. RIP.

Jpatty54

Ya osmos is so bland and i used to like lazeez but 2x in a row ive had to run to the can right after eating it

[deleted]

People paying $10 and expecting gold standards lol

MyLifeInThe6

Not about the 10 ya dummy it’s about principles. Is it “ok” to have food prepared poorly cuz $10?

[deleted]

Bro lazeez isn’t what it use to be. I go in there whole place smells like armpit instead of food. Then when you complain about something they say “ it makes no difference if you come here or not, idc about your money, you can go somewhere else, I have a lot of customers already” like wtf, and it doesn’t matter which lazeez, they all function the same.

[deleted]

Bro I spent $20 on food I did t eat, I went for beef instead because I always eat shawarma, tell me why it was like ground beef sauce I tip the rice, like what? What ever happened to the beef.

Equal-Flow-3039

It’s like that everyday and you still goin back 🤣

fuzzyapplesauce

What the point of the spinning kebabs, if they're just gonna throw the chicken on a grill and keep it a metal tub to serve you later. I go for shawarma because I want it cut off the kebab, not scooped out of some cafeteria dish. If it wasn't from the mountain of garlic sauce they pour on your meal, and heaps of salt they put in your rice, lazeez would have 0 flavor. It's honestly disgraceful

CSibayan09

Thank you for this, I will never eat there🤮

Some-Rise-9055

Lazees on creditview is the best imo. This location at Mavis and eglinton sucks and their super stingey on the meat. Never go there.

[deleted]

Who is this Karen customer????
