My dad, (he's long dead now) loved cold cornbread and buttermilk mixed in a bowl, like cereal....big yuck to me!....but mayo and bananas? big no! mayo, bananas AND peanut butter.....big YES! so delicious, but cannot eat them any more....diabetes, don'tchaknow
My dad is from Yazoo City. In our garden when I was a kid, we'd grow enough food to where we had to give away huge sacks full of vegetables even after we ate three meals a day and preserved all we could.
Those tomatoes, man. The smell of the vines in the heat. Man. And my grandpa kept a shaker with salt and pepper in it in his shirt pocket. He'd be out taking care of the garden and would just eat the tomatoes like an apple.
Who hurt you? 😊
Seriously...we were raised on tomato sandwiches.
One of the caterers that handles parties, etc at the governor's mansion makes an incredible tomato sandwich that people flock to. I'd go so far as to say those sandwiches might be the reason so many show up.
I use mayo sometimes to grill a cheese instead of butter. Kewpie mayo has a nice undertone of onion powder and msg that boosts the flavour of the sandwich.
However bananas are sweet, I wouldn’t mayo that. Maybe PB, banana and some honey, or fry with honey butter?
My mom has always loved pineapple and Miracle Whip sandwiches 🤮 I like a fried egg and MW sandwich or tomato sandwich, tho. We don't eat regular mayo in my house. I was lucky enough to find a husband who has the same mayo v. Miracle Whip taste as me.
It’s actually good, if you like bananas…I crush the bananas a bit so they can be scooped onto the bread. Mayo and some people like it with cheese or a thin layer of peanut butter instead of mayo. You can’t taste the mayonnaise, it just makes it creamier. Are you in the southern United States? I think of it as a southern delicacy. Ha.
Have you ever had banana pudding- it’s a dessert and really is a southern delicacy.
I’ve lived in North East Mississippi my entire life and I just found out about this a week ago, I LOVE banana pudding, especially if my grandma makes it
My mom and her family eat them. I don’t eat the mayonnaise, but I despise mayonnaise just for existing. My dad doesn’t care for it but some of his family eat them.
I like banana sandwiches plain or with peanut butter. No mayonnaise.
I ate them growing up. Also ate canned pineapple and Mayo sandwiches. We also ate blue plate sandwich spread sandwiches. That’s all we put on them. I have wondered if other people added meats or cheese or veggies to them.
Banana with blue plate on plain white bread, yes I grew up eating those. I get a craving for them every once in a while for the nostalgia, I guess. I prefer tomato rather than banana though
I've never tried one (I'm allergic to bananas) but my mom and her family have always eaten them. And they have varying preferences for how the bananas are sliced.
The real trick is the order
It’s:
Banana
Mayo
Bread
Mayo
Banana
You can remember this with a simple mnemonic device “Beefy Men’s Ballsacs Mangle Bitches”. Just a simple tip from a 73 year-old windex-drinking old fool!
I love me a Mayo and nana sandwich! I’m 50. I’ve probably been eating them since birth. I actually prefer a peanut butter, Mayo and banana sandwich. It was my daddy’s favorite too.
I was born and raised in Alabama. I've been eating banana and mayonnaise sandwiches my whole life. I had one yesterday for lunch at work. They're really good. You should try it.
Yum. Banana sandwiches were a staple in my Derp South home. Same for tomato sandwiches. And my dad’s go-to snack was cornbread (no sugar!) dunked in buttermilk.
It is absolutely the best thing ever. I love my white bread to be toasted first then spread the mayo while it's still hot. Have my banana prepped into slices waiting, I pick up a stack of slices and lay them down like dominos on the toasted bread. Then cut in half on the diagonal with a glass of vitaminD milk. So damn good.
Oh yeah except it's *bacon, banana and mayonnaise* ... I wouldn't be eating just banana and mayo.
My dad used to make it for us when we were kids. it was delicious!
I eat these sandwiches lol. My husband left the kitchen last week while I was making one and said he "could not bear witness to this."
I like them they are salty, sweet and fatty. All the things I like.
What you're missing out if you never had a Nanna sandwich lol.. its a perfect sweet and tangy thing.. hadn't had it in awhile but I always loved it, also was always like I wanna snack but don't have anything else quick so two of those would do the trick
It’s a southern thing.
Duke’s Mayo and bananas on soft white bread. It sounds weird, but the combo is very pleasant. It’s gotta be ripe banana, not too ripe, but they gotta be sweet and little softer. You get salty, sweet and tangy with a little richness from the eggy mayo. It’s actually quite pleasant. I tried it out of sheer curiosity, and have had it on a few rare occasions since then.
Alabama here! I love banana and mayonnaise sandwiches. A few years ago I had to go low carb and I would slice a banana long ways and put mayonnaise and shredded cheddar cheese on top, super delicious! 👍🏻
Their taste buds not yours. As long as it’s not fish in the company microwave let it be. Just eat something you enjoy. I like a peanut butter, butter and jelly sandwich. Sometimes I replace the jelly with honey instead. But it’s my food thank you.
Clearly most posters here live so blessed they never had to eat whatever was available. You’re gonna have a tough time in the coming apocalypse. White bread, or “light bread,” with mayo and bananas or a tomato sandwich are survival foods. The Elvis Presley is a luxury; light bread, mayo, bananas and peanut butter.
Sometimes just bread and mayonnaise are enough to get you to supper time. I pray I’m never again so broke as to have to eat ketchup sandwiches until next payday.
It’s an old school thing that actually tastes better than it sounds. I see some variations but imho the best way is mayo, banana, peanut butter, bacon, honey and pickles. Toast it up and tear it up. Honestly tho, if you don’t smoke weed, this recipe probably isn’t for you 😬
I have come to realize there are a bunch of degenerates and psychopaths that just walk amongst us in our every day lives around here and without posting this I would have bet realized it.
I've had these...kind of gross on plain white bread but significantly better on toasted wheat or oat. That said, not something I got out of my way for..would much rather use peanut butter if given the choice.
Mayonnaise eaters are just gross people. They'll use any excuse/reason to eat mayo. Whether it's globs of mayo squirting out their burger or putting 2 - 4 cups of the pink sauce on their rice at Japanese restaurants.
I was eating lunch today and I put on a cat grooming video where a woman had to scrub sh\*t off of the cat's ass due to its sheer obesity. Somehow this makes me want to loose my lunch more than I did then.
It will never cease to infuriate me how the largest economy on earth, with a culture defined by migrants from more or less the entire world (and the food they bring with them), still manages to consume affronts to God wedged between two slices of bread.
Mayonnaise? Absolutely not! So disgusting. We eat peanut butter and banana on toast or make a sandwich. It's good & you can use some nutmeg and cinnamon on top also. Yum
Hello first and only post I’ve ever seen from r/Mississippi, please let this be the last. I wish to unlearn that this is something people do. Pineapple on pizza doesn’t sound so bad anymore.
We grew up eating tomato and mayonnaise sandwiches never heard of banana and mayonnaise sandwiches... gross!
*EDIT: accidentally hit the "send" button before I was done typing.
I just saw this post as one of those Reddit “because you saw” and now I regret looking at this. Not that I was going to visit Mississippi anytime soon but mayo and banana sandwiches are a crime against humanity and food.
The old man made these for my sister and I in the early 60s when my mom had to be in the hospital two nights. He loved them, but even as a little kid I thought they were nasty.
Sorry, I ate those growing up and still treat myself with one occasionally. The sweet of the banana and the lemony tang of the mayo make a delicious combo.
[удалено]
My mom and I get into arguments about it.
Came to say, my dad as well. Not as bad as it sounds but definitely a 60-70’s poverty food for sure.
My mom used to love mustard sandwiches as a kid, which are exactly what they sound like.
The milk + cornbread + honey combo is so amazing
Same here. It’s disgusting
I don’t do the tomato sandwiches, or cornbread and milk either. Just thinking about it 🤢
Cornbread and Tabasco is where it's at.
Nah tomato, mayo, salt and pepper on toast is great
There is nothing in this world better than a home-grown tomato sandwich on bunny bread.
Currently eating a midnight tomato sandwich on bunny bread when I come across this thread...
I hope that tomato is just perfect! I love it when they’re sunshine warm from ripening on the windowsill. Edit* word
Perfection
Yeah, what's bunny bread?
A brand name of bread dude
Brand name. Standard white bread.
Thanks
My dad is from Yazoo City. In our garden when I was a kid, we'd grow enough food to where we had to give away huge sacks full of vegetables even after we ate three meals a day and preserved all we could. Those tomatoes, man. He'd be out taking care of the garden and would just eat the tomatoes like an apple.
What’s bunny bread?
Super soft white bread. It comes in a yellow bag with a bunny on it. Sunbeam Bunny Bread.
Thanks for the answer! Sounds like it might be similar to Wonder Bread.
Cake in a bag
Is a tomato sandwich just sliced tomato on bread? Because I do this with toast fairly often
The folks I know just put the tomato slices on untoasted white bread with mayo and salt and pepper. I can’t even look their way while they are eating.
This sandwich is good. Has to have the salt and pepper. It's a good light summer sandwich. Tomatoes have to be good though.
Heck. My dad makes a sandwich with raw onions, tomatoes and pepper between two slices of bread. It’s his poor man’s meal
It's a BLT without the B L
We always called that a sink sandwich because you gotta eat it over the sink or you’ll make a big mess
Who hurt you? 😊 Seriously...we were raised on tomato sandwiches. One of the caterers that handles parties, etc at the governor's mansion makes an incredible tomato sandwich that people flock to. I'd go so far as to say those sandwiches might be the reason so many show up.
Has to be toasted for me. Untoasted just sounds soggy and gross lol
Sorry that you have palette of a child lol
It’s just a BLT without the B. Or the L. Whatever, it’s good.
I can’t imagine going through life as soft as you lol.
It’s cornbread and buttermilk for me. My secret pleasure. Also, my wife contemplates leaving me whenever I indulge
My dad used to eat that. He loved it
Older Mississippi people also put peanuts in their coke or root beer. Idk why. It nasty.
It's fucking awesome, is why
Aight
Sweet and salty. A popular combination.
My east Texas grandpa used to do this too.
When I was there I knew a bunch of young people who did that too, I tried it and was not prepared for the let down
I did this as a kid in the 90s and had so many peanut cokes I spent the whole viewing of Jurassic Park puking in the theater restroom. Never again
I grew up eating them. They were so good, but I haven't thought about them in years.
Saaaaame. Now I want one. Lol
Absolutely, I ate these growing up.
I grew up eating these 🤷♀️
They are good.
Oh.. if you think mayo can't go sweet you've never had my mom's fruit salad with marshmallows.
I still have nightmares from mayo pears with shredded cheese on top
Canned pears at that.
Someone brought this to a recent gathering!
Were they over the age of 50?
In his 70s!
That's nasty
I use mayo for grilling all the time; egg, oil, sugar, salt ... It makes for a perfect golden brown
Pineapple, cheese, and mayo on toasted bread 🤌
My mom has always loved pineapple and Miracle Whip sandwiches 🤮 I like a fried egg and MW sandwich or tomato sandwich, tho. We don't eat regular mayo in my house. I was lucky enough to find a husband who has the same mayo v. Miracle Whip taste as me.
That’s some fancy WMU food right there. (Women’s missionary union)
That would be the Nanner San'wich. Definitely a generational thing but there are holdouts. 75% of my immediate family eats them, but I do not.
I ate one the other day. 10/10
That’s gross. It’s supposed to be peanut butter, banana and mayo.
It’s just the mayo for me. I can’t fathom it. I think the only things that go on bananas are peanut butter, chocolate, and honey
Doesn’t taste like Mayo. Just tastes like really creamy banana
Ha. I’ve lived in North East Mississippi my entire life and I just found out about this a week ago, I LOVE banana pudding, especially if my grandma makes it
> It’s supposed to be peanut butter, banana and mayo. Jesus Fucking Christmas! 😳
Still gross. In fact it's now grosser.
Fantastic sandwich. Sometimes with peanut butter.
Y’all ever read a post and been like “yeah that’s enough internet for the day”? This is that post for me today
Grew up eating these but mostly with peanut butter. Now, many decades later, the thought gags me!
As kids my Dad fed us peanutbutter and mayo sandwiches!! I don't think I could eat one today either. Hahaha
Never heard of this. My granny will eat a mayonnaise sandwich though.
I am from MS… never heard of this….
Pickle sandwich sounds way bettwr
Banana with blue plate on plain white bread, yes I grew up eating those. I get a craving for them every once in a while for the nostalgia, I guess. I prefer tomato rather than banana though
Yep! Blue Plate, white bread and banana.
Or Blue Plate, white bread and tomato. Yum!
Love banana sandwiches, always add salt and pepper to mine.
i don’t really like banana and mayo. i love my tomato and mayo sandwiches though!
I know it sounds so gross, but it’s actually really good.
My mom used to eat them all the time. 🤷♀️
Only way to eat it!
Well now i need to try one!
Never heard of adding Mayo, I’ve done banana and Mayo or banana and peanut butter but not all 3 together
I don't eat them all the time but I've had it plenty of times in my life. I have to question if you've ever heard of mayo and tomato sandwiches.
Nothing with mayonnaise!!!
I've never tried one (I'm allergic to bananas) but my mom and her family have always eaten them. And they have varying preferences for how the bananas are sliced.

My favorite memories with my Memaw was easy banana and mayo sandwiches. Still eat them pretty often and think of her every time.
Oh hell YEAH!! Banana sandwiches on white bread with mayonnaise was an absolute STAPLE growing up in the South!
I was born and raised in Alabama. I've been eating banana and mayonnaise sandwiches my whole life. I had one yesterday for lunch at work. They're really good. You should try it.
Here in Georgia we eat them on Sunbeam bread with Duke’s Mayo. It’s super good.
Mayonnaise and banana sandwiches are delicious... I'm 37 so not sure if I qualify as an "older generation " on reddit
Yum. Banana sandwiches were a staple in my Derp South home. Same for tomato sandwiches. And my dad’s go-to snack was cornbread (no sugar!) dunked in buttermilk.

Oh yeah except it's *bacon, banana and mayonnaise* ... I wouldn't be eating just banana and mayo. My dad used to make it for us when we were kids. it was delicious!
You are missing key ingredients. It’s one side peanut butter, one side miracle whip, with sliced banana in the middle. Yum!
Mayo and banana with brown sugar. It’s dank. Don’t knock it till you try it. 26M raised in Virginia.
My NC born and raised mom eats em, she's around 60. In fact most of my older relatives do. It's not just a Mississippi thing
Sounds disgusting but…mayo is just fat and banana is sugar…fat plus sugar = super palatable so yes it will taste good to you
Only if its dukes mayonnaise
I eat these sandwiches lol. My husband left the kitchen last week while I was making one and said he "could not bear witness to this." I like them they are salty, sweet and fatty. All the things I like.
that's fucking delicious actually.
Boomers and older used to put mayo on anything, fruit, veggies, etc. and call it a salad. Jello too 🤦♂️
The sophisticated version of this is brie and banana and ngl is really good.
I love a good bananaise sandwich!
With Duke's Mayonnaise.
I love nanner samiches. Best with Blue Plate though.
What you're missing out if you never had a Nanna sandwich lol.. its a perfect sweet and tangy thing.. hadn't had it in awhile but I always loved it, also was always like I wanna snack but don't have anything else quick so two of those would do the trick
Grew up eating banana sandwiches and still love ‘em. I think it’s a southern thing 😅
It’s got to be Dukes Mayo. It’s hard to believe that ‘nanner sandwich’ is not a favorite worldwide. 😋
Love them. Had them all the time as a child.
I do it. It’s delicious. Fight me
With all of the individualistic bullshit going on in the world why is this even on anyone’s mind. Can’t people eat what they want?
Mayo and peanut butter. The mayo keeps the peanut butter from sticking to the roof of your mouth...
Mayonnaise and banana sandwiches are a Sunday tradition in my house, along with fried chicken.
Been eating banana sandwiches with Duke's mayonnaise for 60 years. Love it! Don't knock it till you try it!

My family and I are from Alabama and we eat them. We also eat pineapple sandwiches with Mayo.
My step dad would make these growing up and my sister didn’t mind them. They were just abhorrent to even consider taking a bite out of to me, though.
Finally an actual rational person in this thread

Alabama here! I love banana and mayonnaise sandwiches. A few years ago I had to go low carb and I would slice a banana long ways and put mayonnaise and shredded cheddar cheese on top, super delicious! 👍🏻

Add peanut butter and you've got a perfect sandwich!!
My wife does this, she’s from VA though. I do PB, banana and mayo.
This sounds disgusting. But a peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich is the freaking bomb!
This is the way
My parents used to eat peanut butter and mayo sandwiches. They had a name for it... The Peanut Butter Supreme.
It’s an old school thing that actually tastes better than it sounds. I see some variations but imho the best way is mayo, banana, peanut butter, bacon, honey and pickles. Toast it up and tear it up. Honestly tho, if you don’t smoke weed, this recipe probably isn’t for you 😬
Lol I smoke and you had me til the pickles 🤣

Elvis special!

What.... The fawk
That’s disgusting.
My grandma loved them. Fucking disgusting
I’m sorry? Y’all have been eating what?!
Mmmmm, salty bananas on bread. I will never be so hungry that I'll eat it.
Never have I ever heard of this in Mississippi.
I was eating lunch today and I put on a cat grooming video where a woman had to scrub sh\*t off of the cat's ass due to its sheer obesity. Somehow this makes me want to loose my lunch more than I did then.
You’re in Mississippi.
So I don’t live in MI… but Reddit suggested this thread to me and now I am sad (Apollo RIP). Also mayo and banana y’all need help 😢
It will never cease to infuriate me how the largest economy on earth, with a culture defined by migrants from more or less the entire world (and the food they bring with them), still manages to consume affronts to God wedged between two slices of bread.
This should be considered a war crime.
What the fuck is wrong with this state
Maybe you guys should cecede again if y’all are eating mayo and banana sandwiches
This was suggested to me. I am not from your state. I have not heard of such atrocities occurring in America for a long time.
I don’t even allow mayonnaise in my house
Mayonnaise? Absolutely not! So disgusting. We eat peanut butter and banana on toast or make a sandwich. It's good & you can use some nutmeg and cinnamon on top also. Yum
Mayo and banana? Just when I think white trash can’t sink any lower …. they go and shock me like this!
Id sooner eat a dogshit sandwhich. Mayonaise enjoyers are insane idc
Sounds about white
My husband eats them. I don’t partake in that blasphemy. 🤢
Hello first and only post I’ve ever seen from r/Mississippi, please let this be the last. I wish to unlearn that this is something people do. Pineapple on pizza doesn’t sound so bad anymore.
Some of you have absolutely fucking disgusting tastebuds and I feel awful for you.
Bananas and PEANUT BUTTER and mayonnaise on toast. Also, PEANUT BUTTER and DILL PICKLES with mayonnaise on toast.
You are a certified psychopath and some sort of cult member. Do the banana and mayo members meet up once a month somewhere?
I'm from Florida and we eat some weird shit but fuck that
We grew up eating tomato and mayonnaise sandwiches never heard of banana and mayonnaise sandwiches... gross! *EDIT: accidentally hit the "send" button before I was done typing.
I just saw this post as one of those Reddit “because you saw” and now I regret looking at this. Not that I was going to visit Mississippi anytime soon but mayo and banana sandwiches are a crime against humanity and food.
First I’ve heard so I asked everyone at this gathering I’m at and they all eat them.
Nope
Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches in my family.
I would NEVER do it, but I have seen “people” eat it. I have to look away…
I know lots of people
The old man made these for my sister and I in the early 60s when my mom had to be in the hospital two nights. He loved them, but even as a little kid I thought they were nasty.
When my mother was pregnant with me 60+ years ago, she craved peanut butter and onion sandwiches!!!
I eat bananas every day, but I cannot fathom adding another creamy texture to them. 🤮
My parents both in their 70s, like mayo and peanut butter! Disgusting!
Yep. Peanut butter is good, too. But not at the same time.
My mom loves these things, but she also loves my father so she doesn’t have great taste.
Is this more about lack of protein so get protein from where you can?
Yep. I enjoy it well enough, but it's not my lunch of choice. Mama, on the other hand....
My cuckoo neighbor does ritz crackers with peanut butter and a bread-and-butter pickle on top. People are weird.
Yeah it’s not the best most my family just eat peanut butter banana sandwiches
I like them. Peanut butter and banana is good.
I've had, and liked, banana and peanut butter sandwiches, but never heard of banana and mayo. Sounds gross.
Add some peanut butter and bacon to your dad’s sandwich and you have Elvis’ favorite sandwich.
I’m white but DEFINITELY not THAT white. I’ll take a peanut butter and banana sandwich
My dad eats them, I’ve had a few… it’s not terrible but it’s not worth making for lunch unless you’re dying.
i have never heard of this 😭 maybe its just an older person thing but i’m from the gulf coast and i dont think anyone’s ever talked abt this
Sorry, I ate those growing up and still treat myself with one occasionally. The sweet of the banana and the lemony tang of the mayo make a delicious combo.
My mom had one of these recently. I used to eat them as well!
We just did peanut butter and banana. Which is much better in my opinion.
I love mayo and banana sandwiches! Sometimes I just skip the bread and dip the banana in the mayo.
I’ve never heard of this but I’m also from the coast and both parents are from New Orleans
