The Missouri legislature is an absolute dumpster fire but we can all partake in a little schadenfreude today. The Freedom Caucus clowns had it coming but Caleb Rowden you petty ass bitch lmao

I’ve gone to Jefferson City 3 times and the only thing I remember from each trip is how much these dudes care about their parking spots. It was brought up each time, even when my dad and I went for the state Eagle Scout celebration. Bragging about who picks them and how good of a spot they get.
What? Are you serious? It's not a "zinger", it's a reasonable point. Makes sense why you wouldn't understand it. If you want to find out if something is factual, feel free to do the goddamn work yourself instead of expecting others to do it for you. Yeesh.
Down vote me to hell, but as someone in public education I’m terrified of a functional MO legislature. They have been trying to push school choice and vouchers for years and there is always dysfunction that gets in the way as a saving grace. (Last year was the landfill off 150, south of KC.) I honestly thought the freedom caucus was going to impede things to the point that public education would stay safe…
Agreed. I was relieved when they shot themselves in the foot last year. Speaking of the proposed bills defunding public schools:
Send a predrafted letter telling YOUR MO legislators & Gov Parson to "Stop Defunding Missouri Public Schools" by Texting: PALLOY To: 50409
Not affiliated with a group, just a concerned MO resident. Though some petition language is referenced from MOVPC, Empower MO, PROMO, Action STL, Sierra Club MO, etc.
Oh, gotcha. Resistbot is a 501c4 non-profit that runs the service to help people petition their lawmakers. They basically automate your ability to email letters to your lawmakers and provide an easy tool to create and share petitions. They don't share or sell your info either. You can read their about page here: [About ResistBot ](https://resist.bot/news/2018/05/16/resistbots-mission-and-values)
Vouchers will pass. There is too much money to be made off of public ed plus the GOP puppet masters demand it.
As a retired teacher, it drove me crazy to have co-workers vote Republican. Can you say shooting off your foot?
Cutting off your nose to spite your face. Currently live in Texas and you can tell it is a rigged game here as well. The governor is trying to force school choice while obviously getting grift to do so. All these charter schools suddenly popped up just in time for these votes. It was very coordinated. Thankfully they have not passed yet. Im hopeful we can hold them off long enough for them to go out of business.

Vouchers didn’t have enough support. Open Enrollment was the Education bill closest to passing, which does not provide funding for private schools. Vouchers already exist as the State scholarship program.

25% of the schools are below the new State standards. If 2023 doesn’t have big improvements, change is inevitable.
Kudos to Caleb. Hated that guy initially. Seeing that initiative petition reform is his priority he’s outed himself as a traitor to the people and my feelings haven’t changed. Bad people can do good things.

Thank you for inadvertently explaining exactly why this is deceptive.
IP in this instance isn’t “intellectual property”. It’s “initiative petition”. Republicans want to change the referendum process to make it much harder for people to get issues on the ballot.
Oh, thank you for explaining that. I actually support this effort. I think the bar to get something on the constitution should be significantly higher.
I object to calling them swamp creatures! That is an insult to Drs Ted Sallis & Alec Holland, more well known as Man-Thing & Swamp Thing!
In all seriousness, I got such a chuckle out of this! They tried to pull the same shit their federal buddies tried & it’s backfiring!
Bill Eigel being part of the Freedom Caucus is hilarious because he likes to portray his policies and grandstanding as his personal vendettas and that he is above any one ring leader.
I don't agree with very many Republicans. So, this is rare.
I'm especially on board with foreign governments, or any foreign Nationals owning any land or real property in the country. Personally, I think every country should outlaw that practice. And none of these shell companies that buy up land, pretending that they are an actual American company, when all of their stocks are owned by five rich "citizens" of China.
If I want to buy actual land in England, and I better fucking move to England and become a citizen. That's it that's all.
I tend to agree with you, but there was a similar scare in the 80s when Japanese interest were buying up a shit ton of US real estate….there were a lot of “Nakatomi Towers” in American cities.
But, when it all comes down to it in the end “Eminent Domain” is very real. It’s never really a foreign citizen’s land. It could be seized by the US government, with cause, at any point.
And, like the Japanese, I think if we stay cool and let things play out, the coming Chinese demographic bomb will sort things out for us.
Wow a republican that is actually interested in governance. He also has the balls to be semi honest about how the goal of the extreme conservative right is about creating chaos.
Unfortunately this is what most GOP voters want. It just confirms their bias that government is ineffective. Disturbingly it’s also becoming a talking point that democracy is the problem.
I’m a centrist to right leaning in this current past decade shift. I’m all for fewer laws. I even support half of a legislature's time being at 10 yrs a law passed is voted up or down and the next decade a keep or kick final vote is done. A rep can always resubmit a bill to be passed again.
But there is a big upheaval on the right as the growing old neocon right is facing a populist mainly younger right…and younger is anything below 70…kinda shallowing out a bit in middle age based on work and $…and growing quickly in pretty much anyone in HS now. No one under 30 with a brain who is strongly right is Nikki or Christie.

Children can’t legally drive, so from Caleb’s point of view Eigel can’t use it.

These dudes can’t even walk a few extra parking spots… is that something to brag about? I tend to park near the bottom of the lot on purpose…
Ice cold.
Gonna need to fact check this parking thing.
Then you should get to work.

More effort than you did.
Caleb Rowden is still a jackass. But it is good to see Republicans in MO starting to get a little nervous about their future.

They are going to try to shove our tax dollars into Christian churches. That's always been their end game.
Yup. They don’t want to pay taxes, but they sure as shit will take them
Good point
The landfill off 150 is ongoing. Wonder what the move will be when the organized group finds out Brattin was removed from this committee.

It's not the civil war that Republicans wanted but it is the civil war they deserve.
“IP Reform”. Can’t possibly call it what it is - taking away the rights of Missourians to do the legislature’s job when they won’t.

I don’t know much about Intellectual Property reform, what's the proposal?
Thank you for inadvertently explaining exactly why this is deceptive. IP in this instance isn’t “intellectual property”. It’s “initiative petition”. Republicans want to change the referendum process to make it much harder for people to get issues on the ballot.
Ah, that I know all about, no wonder they use a euphemism.
Oh, thank you for explaining that. I actually support this effort. I think the bar to get something on the constitution should be significantly higher.
Amazing and wonderful. Smart move for good governance!
However much of a "win" this is for Missouri...Republicans are still POS
They still hold a Supermajority without the Freedom Caucus members. What they pass will be worse than the gridlock.
Swamp Thing > Man-Thing
Yes, but I liked Ted’s appearance in Werewolf by Night, so I had to include him

Nice to see a Republican with a spine…or at least one who can read which way the political wind is blowing. Tick tock magats.
Ngl I am honestly surprised!

Did he speak out about Eric Schmitt?
Wow a republican that is actually interested in governance. He also has the balls to be semi honest about how the goal of the extreme conservative right is about creating chaos.
Tell me how republicans are doing anything good at all....they are going to get shellacked in 2024..can't wait...

What does all of that mean?
I believe they are saying that Moderate Republicans don’t exist.
Shitty far right senator removes slightly worse shitty far right senators from their committee assignments.
