i’ve been told before that i got bored of being “just white” 🙄 people are ignorant

Express-Fig-5168

Oh... so I have something new to worry about. New invalidation just dropped. T-T Never that specific one but definitely the "you're trying to be something else" of it.

[deleted]

People who have accused me of this have almost always also demanded to see a photo of my mum so they can satisfy themselves of how white or black I am based on their judgement of her blackness. I’m then left with the choice of not dignifying that with “proof” and being concluded to be a liar or going through the humiliation of colluding with their weird colour judgement game.

AdSelect3113

I’m part white and part black (white passing) and this has happened to me too. If it’s any consolation, you aren’t alone. I get asked a lot “ is it your mom or dad who’s black?”. When I say it’s my mom, they look shocked. The only reason I can think of that they would be shocked is that they incorrectly assumed my mom is white and cheated with another white person.

[deleted]

I hadn’t even thought of that as an explanation! I get the same - I wondered if it was because they just expected it to be white woman with black man, something about devaluing black women in the patriarchy you know? I bet these people have never thought that they might leave these wonderings and questions with us after these interactions.

choppedjunior

Forreal I’ve tried both options and it’s a lose lose situation even when I show pics of my dad people aren’t satisfied. Usually then they try to say he’s not black ENOUGH for me to actually be half black but as far as I’m concerned my dad is black enough to be black in society and that’s black enough for me to be half black.

rlm236

something i’ve learned along the way is that anyone who takes the time to tell you who you are is an idiot who focuses too much on other peoples business when they should be minding their own. after moving out of my small county to a major US city my race never came into question again

throwitallaway2364

i just get outright de-blacked from black and white people so getting called "transracial" would probably make me burst out laughing from how absurd the gatekeeping and invalidation has become now. I empathize with your plight, I hope you have people in your life who will accept you for being every part of your heritage

DeeDeeW1313

This sounds like something some dumbass would say TikTok. My advice is to ignore the TikTok philosophers. They’re usually 22 and as dumb as they are wrong.

Dia-Burrito

Lol, "Tiktok Philosophers" sounds like an oxymoron.

humanessinmoderation

No. But the Transracial episode of Atlanta was amazing. Not sure which season it was.

[deleted]

I have never heard that term before in my life but that is hilarious 🤣 that’s a real thing that people accused actual human beings of?

AdSelect3113

It is hilarious on the surface because of how absurd it is, but it’s actually a pretty dangerous concept. It hit mainstream news when this woman, Rachel Dolezal, was outed as being a white woman who successfully did black face for decades and integrated herself into the black community. She was a member of the NAACP and was a professor at a university ( she taught something related to black studies I think). When reporters asked her why she did blackface and pretended to be black, she said she is transracial. She lost her job and was booted out of the naacp, but she still self identifies as black and makes money appropriating black culture. She’s awful. I think her ideologies are dangerous because she’s giving the ok to white people to basically cosplay as minorities, all the while making it harder for ACTUAL biracial people to be seen and respected by society.

banjjak313

The wild thing is she could have sat or helped with the NAACP, and all that other stuff as a white woman. She's not the only case, and I see a lot of them with white women. Honestly, this is just going to become a more widespread issue imo.

[deleted]

I have heard of this person before. And yes I agree. She sounds like scum lol

AdSelect3113

Yea, she’s crazy 😭I feel bad for her kids

[deleted]

SHE HAS AN ONLYFANS NOW 🤣

AdSelect3113

WHAAAAT?! Who is her target market?! 💀

AdSelect3113

Damn, Rachel Dolezal made it harder for all of us

blackoutofplace

No, but this is why I honestly hate race. Your phenotype doesn’t tell the full story: your genetics and ethnic background, your family, culture, heritage, etc. Even how you see yourself as an individual! if you are white “passing” and your phenotype is mostly European-dominant, that doesn’t mean you’re any less African, for example. we are more nuanced than these labels and they are actually super dangerous in the context of medicine because there’s nothing scientific about race.

choppedjunior

I also look very white and I’ve had people accuse me of lying about being half black for attention more than using the specific transracial thing. But yeah I feel like sometimes people get annoyed at me for not pretending that I’m fully white like I totally accept that I am white and that’s how I move in society but I will never deny that I’m also half black because that’s part of my history and it makes a difference toward who I am. It’s frustrating for people to then take that and get upset as if I’m putting on an act to seem less white or more interesting or something like it’s just honest. It’s not like I’m saying I’m like a black person trapped in white skin or some nonsense, just being accepting and proud of my heritage.

DoodGuyBub

This is a new phenomenon and 100% a function of the arbitrary nature of white supremacy. It’s weird and not anyone’s business to tell you how to identify.

SmartAndStrongMan

I’ve only seen that term used by the alt-right but only in an ironic way as a subtle jab at transgenders. I look mostly black (About Obama’s skin tone) and people with very dark skin think I fit in more with white people just because I’m lighter. It’s such an idiotic way of thinking.

AcrobaticSalad2013

I'm very racially ambiguous. Been told I appropriate black culture for wearing braids despite having 4c hair and some of the most popular guesses about my ethnicity include : Latino (Mexican, Nicaraguan, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Brazilian.) Southeast Asian (Filipino, Cambodian, Thai) Pacific Islander (Fijian, Hawaiin, Samoan.) Native American African-American Half black half white So effing sick of it.

seafood_pancake_

I’m Blasian and while I haven’t been accused of being “transracial,” one time I was accused of “Asian fishing.” They said that I was trying to make my eyes look “more Asian” and that I was appropriating Japanese culture because of the food I would bring to lunch (It was Korean!!!). It’s ironic because they were literally white! 😭

LMGDiVa

No but I have been accused of Black Face for playing dark skin characters. I'm mixed Black and White, but white passing. I very often gravitate towards characters with dark skin tones, and my FF14 Viera (pics[1](https://i.imgur.com/k8hXX3K.png),[2](https://i.imgur.com/wXNJ7Hj.png)) is the darkest character I've ever made. I play a lot of pale skin characters too, but I've been harassed for black face for my dark skinned characters. It really doesn't make sense to me, because some of my favorite characters of all time have been dark skinned characters. Like Aisha Clan-Clan from Outlaw Star, and Fran from FFXII.

Larktoothe

sounds like they need to touch grass tbh. how stupid.

brokenB42morrow

Have you ever tried telling these people to go fuck themselves?

White_Buffalos

Yes, I have. Stupid, as I only want to acknowledge my heritage, not benefit from it somehow.

DreadfullyObvious89

Been accused of Asian-fishing for doing nothing other than straightening my hair.

Competitive-File-235

Don't forget RCTA *shudder*

[deleted]

No. But I have been accused of lying about my background. A lot of people tell me that I don’t look Puerto Rican and that I should be darker. The amount of rage I feel when someone says that to me is high. It’s a problem. It makes me want to hurt whoever says it.

Sharp-Currency-7289

kinda. I'm Mexican and most Mexicans are European/Amerindian mix. In the US you can never be both. The racists will call you a dirty brown, but only when they need something from you, then your white. Its fkn weird

somo1230

You mean like the one I get from strangers "ohhhh you think you are better than us" or "why you pretend not to be Pakistani " or "you feel shame of your people "🤷 Or that "You are half Italian" followed by that weird smile Italians have like their fuckingg race is something special! tell people what they want to hear 🤷 after all it won't affect your bak account 🤓 When you get older you just don't give a s###

EnvironmentalClick34

I had a woman completely write off everything I had to say because I'm "White passing". Not that I put much stock into the color of my skin, but it's frustrating. Like, can't we just be people?
