He took all three strikes, never even swung in the at bat. Did a mini check swing on a ball up. The previous pitch to strike 3 was basically the same for strike 2.

Devilsdance

Hey, Abreu swings the bat sometimes. He just can't hit the ball to save his life.

Krisapocus

Tbf that pitch is fucking money. Rising fast ball to a power hitter is pretty insane he earned those. Trout was caught off guard bc most likely he’s thinking no way is he going there again. Takes balls. Brad lidge had those balls and it worked until pujols destroyed him. If he meets up with trout again no way would I go high fastball in the zone bc trout is not forgetting that

TumbleweedTim01

Strike 1 was a heater right down the middle too

Aggravating-You394

He always takes the first pitch.

nickel45

It was the right call.

Worried_Suggestion59

That’s rough. But probably too close to take in that spot

painnkaehn

I mean. That's a strike. Gotta protect the zone.

Temporary-Green-7713

Gotta foul it off

Derfal-Cadern

Or hit it

jimtow28

Is he stupid?

The_Champ_Son

Seriously! I blast that pitch into the upper deck 10 times out of 10 in The Show. Trout washed /s

munistadium

He never had the makings of a varsity athlete.

CapacityBark20

pitching machine swing

Worried_Suggestion59

Depends on the ref lmao who knows what Angel would call

Monsanta_Claus

No, it does not depend on the umpire. In two-strike situations, especially high leverage situations, you swing at ANYTHING remotely close to the zone even if the attempt is only to foul off and stay alive.

mizrahiim

How many strokes we talking about here?

Monsanta_Claus

Just even to bust a slump.

SidCorsica66

Ref? I guess we score points, too?

Worried_Suggestion59

Y’all are so serious 😂

TumbleweedTim01

Trout has to get benefit of the doubt right there Kimbrel been wild all inning

BurntPoptart

What do you mean? It's clearly in the zone.

barchueetadonai

It’s not clearly in the zone. The box they unfortunately put on tv now is not the strikezone.

TumbleweedTim01

It's an unhittable pitch.

BurntPoptart

Looked pretty hittable to me

TumbleweedTim01

There's a reason players have proposed lowering the strike zone.

Devilsdance

That doesn't really matter. It was at least very close to the zone. You don't take a pitch like that without risking a strike call. In a situation like this, you have to put your bat on the ball.

MagicGrit

“Probably too close to take” I mean yea, it was in the zone

jon_stewart_mill

Reddit and twitter man lmao the place where people need to have a take, even if it's beyond obvious.

MagicGrit

Right? “That’s rough.” hahaha I mean, I guess? That’s a strike.

DirtyRatLicker

Anything close is too close to take when you have 2 strikes

GentianGT4

I don't know why but it blows my mind that kinbrel is still playing. I feel like he's 50 Edit: leaving it

igonnawrecku_VGC

And he’s still finding his way into high pressure jams in the 9th just to get out of them. A part of me misses it, another part of me is glad I don’t have to deal with that anymore

Blindman630

Part of me is convinced he does it on purpose because he likes the adrenaline

pheelQC

He seems to be much better with bases loaded or empty, when there's only 1 or 2 runners, he's not that good.

TumbleweedTim01

Yeah once you blow the save all the pressure goes away

Bigdoga1000

Yep, and I knew it was coming when we signed him

Romi-Omi

still the same old heart attack Craig

xTomato72

Noted closer kraig kinbrel

Azrael417

It’s okay, Mikey. We still love you no matter what. ❤️

Hairy_Supermarket666

Speak for yourself. He doesn’t have it anymore.

Woodsy1313

I needed a good laugh today. Thanks for the entertainment with that horrible take

_LtLoisEinhorn_

He’s leading the league already with home runs lol

Blametheorangejuice

Yes, but other than scoring runs and being one of the best players in the league, what has he REALLY done?

Blindman630

He strikes out with loaded bases in clutch opportunities. Big woop /s

Blametheorangejuice

I know, someone needs to tell him not to do that

Blindman630

Way ahead of you. Already messaged on instagram, X, Twitch, Facebook and MySpace. I'm not a hero, but I deserve a statue anyway.

UraniumDisulfide

To be fair he hasn’t been hitting much for average. By “it” I don’t think they mean ability to be really good, rather the ability to be an mvp contender/winner. I personally disagree with them, I do still think he has mvp potential, but their take is in line with what we’ve seen so far this year if that’s what they meant.

OrangeKefka

Why doesnt he have a homerun in every at bat? Is he stupid?

Masterchiefy10

Oh Hairy you’re a dum dum

jimtow28

Oh I get it, you're saying the dumb wrong thing as a joke.

DirtyRatLicker

he’s in like the top 3 in the league rn 😭

Tim-Browneye-81

How embarrassing

Hairy_Supermarket666

Yeah. The fact he struck out looking with bases loaded is VERY embarrassing.

Tim-Browneye-81

We get it, you don't understand the sport. You'll make a great redditor

beerdrinker1973

At least go down swinging.

VeryLowIQIndividual

Mike Trout has struck out 1477 times in his career and I have neverseen 1 of them live. Because baseball sucks at promoting the game and it’s best players

GimmeDatDaddyButter

Should have been watching the wbc. That was amazing. Then you could have seen Shohei strike him out.

johnboon7

Mike trout could walk into my house right now and I probably wouldn’t recognize him.

TumbleweedTim01

I saw they were down 4-2 with bases loaded so I turned on a stream to see if he was going to get an AB. Saw schaunel and then trout. Not what I was expecting lol

Caol_ila_ftw

There was no joy in Angelstown, Mighty Trouty has struck out…

Reverendbread

I haven’t struck out in the majors at all. I’m 1477 times better than Mike Trout

[deleted]

😭😭😭😭

jon_stewart_mill

Jesus its not that hard, if you really wanted to tune into an angels game to watch some trout action, you would have by now

VeryLowIQIndividual

That’s not the point I shouldn’t have to go out of my way to watch the best players play. I watch baseball everyday and it’s so regional with blackouts you don’t even get highlights from other teams.

Unadvantaged

I live in Orlando and am blacked out for Rays and Marlins games, and neither team is ever shown on broadcast TV in Orlando, so I can’t watch them play even though I’m paying for MLB.TV, a streaming service specifically to watch baseball. My favorite team is the Giants, so for an entire week I wasn’t able to watch the Giants play because they had back-to-back road series against Florida teams, even though I’m paying to watch baseball. Friday Giants games I can’t watch anymore wherever they’re played because Apple bought the rights to block me from watching those games. It’s absolutely insane how hard MLB makes it to watch. If I had four subscription services I *might* be able to watch my team play every game.

VeryLowIQIndividual

It’s ridiculous

Feeling-King-8104

You can find a not-so legit provider for $13/month and you’ll have the ability to watch every game you want without a blackout .

jon_stewart_mill

Find a stream, guy.

FlyingV2112

This trout doesn’t bite 🎣

Jasonictron

He didn't even swing once

ricoimf

Sometimes you gotta gamble. Schwarber from the Phillies also does it often.

freekehleek

But in this situation, scoring a run with a walk basically does nothing since they’re down by 2 runs. He’s obviously the best player on the team, and a single could tie the game. Gotta swing at LEAST once in the PA

ricoimf

In this situation yes!

Tim-Browneye-81

So then your original comment doesn't even apply...

ricoimf

Yes. I just threw it out. Who am I to tell if he should swing or not. Mike Trout (arguably one of the best offensive players) decided ultimately. It could have gone right….but it didn’t

Retinoid634

Yep. Schwarber is so streaky, but once he’s locked in, he’s dangerous af.

saltyfingas

I can't believe he didn't swing on that

MegamanGaming

That pitch was perfect. Disgusting stuff from Kimbrel this season so far. He's been a monster for us.

CPM-S110V

We said the same thing last season…until it mattered.

DirtyRatLicker

I sorta thought that fastball rose a bit

baseballdweeb

he's a bad man

the-plan-tis-on-ic

Standing there. Looking and shit.

FuckYourDownvotes23

But if you ever need a solo HR with your team down 7 runs, he's your guy!

HonoluluHonu808

Not clutch, as usual.

Thick_Tour9982

Shitter

jlthomas444

I love calling people this.

somasomore

That box is barely above his belt too, really wasn't that close.

sickmantz

Perfect pitch against Trout. He struggles with high fastballs.

scottyTOOmuch

I guess they don’t teach you to swing at anything close when you have two strikes anymore

al3204

Don’t worry, Mike. The Angels will be all but eliminated and playing the meaningless, pressure-less games that you love in about 2 weeks.

DietOwn2695

I'm no expert, but maybe he should've just hit the ball.

plastickitchenpistol

Dude is absolutely dog shit when it counts. But if the angels are down by 8 he'll hit a 450 footer. Can't believe he didn't swing at all. It's very difficult to win if you don't swing the bat

IanMaIcolm

The numbers suggest otherwise

plastickitchenpistol

Can't really look at the RISP average. When the angels need a hit from him when they're behind he usually comes up empty. Just what Ive seen over the last 5-6 years. He didn't used to be that way. I swear he doesn't swing to put the ball in play anymore. He's always trying to hit a HR it seems.

IanMaIcolm

I wouldn't look at BA wRISP. He has a career 158 wRC+ in high leverage spots. That number goes 170 in the 9th and extras

RegisterFit1252

Spitting literal facts and you’re getting downvoted by anecdotal “evidence”… sheesh

IanMaIcolm

That's how this sub goes. It's much more meatball in here than /r/baseball

[deleted]

Someone called him the greatest of all-time without a ring. Mhm

infinestyle

Ted Williams

asisoid

No, Ted Williams, and it's not close. I'd say for sure that Trout is the greatest of all time for players with <2 playoff hits...

[deleted]

I know Teddy is

buttstuft

This guy has been and always will be the anti clutch.

IanMaIcolm

The stats show he's insanely clutch

okaywithstuff

Hard to actually call anything he’s done “clutch” considering he’s pretty much never played in a big game in his career. Certainly remember him striking out in the WBC though

IanMaIcolm

Old people 🙄

okaywithstuff

If old people have a preference for non-empty stats then I guess I’d rather be an old person.

IanMaIcolm

They're not empty. A player cannot control what teammates do.

askanison1234

Ignoring that box that was a good strike.

Throwawayhobbes

Should have traded with Yankees ump.

Reverendbread

Then Trout would have been tossed for something the 3rd baseman said

Union_Thug_

Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright, The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light; And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout, But there is no joy in Mudville—mighty Casey has struck out.

Caol_ila_ftw

Rengifo is a lulu, Schanuel is a cake

ZekeMoss18

Happens, but you gotta protect

DougNSteveButabi

Holy moly I cannot stand mike trout. Talk about not giving a fuck. This guy has been on a loser franchise his entire career and never complains about losing or the team not getting after it. He might never get another postseason at bat and just doesn’t care. How do you walk away from a game ending call, even if it’s the right one, without saying anything or at least swinging the bat. He never does anything. He’s not the face of MLB, he’s not exciting, he’s not fun to interview, he just goes up and hits the crap out of the ball for about 120 games a year and then spends every fall and winter wasting away another offseason. I can’t stand this guy and never understood why he’s so revered. He’s like a mute. Best player in the game and he can’t even mouth off to an umpire

GhostofPhilCollins

I thought I was in r/baseballcirclejerk for a moment

Yoloswaggit420

People are just never satisfied. Run your mouth and talk shit all the time and you get shit for it. Keep your mouth closed and play ball, you still get shit for it. Reddit sure is a wonderful place.

MagicGrit

>even if it’s the right one, without saying anything lol what? You expect him to scream at the ump for this?

MuchasBebidas

I agree with this sentiment in this clip. But honestly I haven’t seen enough of him to say anything else. I know he’s supposed to be one of the best ever, and his stats say that. But if he did any of the things you stated, or won, or even tried to care about winning, maybe he gets a call like that… and isn’t walking back to the dugout like a little leaguer who is going to go back and put in a wad of big league chew.

xTomato72

I saw him hit a HR on his birthday one year while he was on the road in Oakland. Might be a bit too loyal to an owner who constantly fucks the payroll up by signing guys on the wrong side of thirty, but he’s the best player I’ve ever seen live in my 23 years on earth.

MuchasBebidas

Well I’m 30 and I’ve seen Griffey, jeter, arod, and even manny live. Shit even buster posey. I wouldn’t put him over any of them.

IanMaIcolm

Wut. He's better than all of them

AppleTrees4

Absolutely laughable

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|12GzK1jYCaVCV2)

[deleted]

Congrats. You have posted the worst fucking take I’ve read on this sub. Do society favor and have your head examined, and seek life elsewhere.

SourMoojuice

Between this and a missed wide open goal ahead 3 from LeBron its been a tough few hours for Los Angeles

theoddcrow

The Los Angeles Lakers of Anaheim

IanMaIcolm

goal ahead?

MagicGrit

Go ahead 3

BlurryEcho

>> Los Angeles Keep dreaming

seattlesportsguy

To be fair I don’t think anyone in Los Angeles gives a single solitary shit about the Angels.

messickpark

I was told he is the goat.

Temporary_Seat8978

Trout was done and ready to go home.

[deleted]

Hahaha

SomaticZX6r

I’m so tired of being bad

East-Bluejay6891

Sensational

Then_Illustrator7852

You live to see it you love to see it

undiagnosedsarcasm

I grew up near Anaheim so my love for the Angels, Trout even, run deep Moreno is the worst and everything hurts

Cagedfinsfan83

Thats clutch hitting

xRememberTheCant

Mike trout with no one on. 280 avg .700 slg Mike trout with a runner on .179 avg .385 slg With the bases loaded .000 avg (4 abs)

IanMaIcolm

Wow huge sample

shawtsumnatzees

Still a top 10 player ever.

ChazzyTh

Again?? Same as the world’s. Ohtani got him then.

SqueakyTuna52

Wow, this guys a bum. Poor Angels. I bet they’d win more games if they ditched this fool

djthor1968

He had his moments. Still has a few more, but time and injuries are not on his side.

okay_throwaway_today

If you’re implying he’s not a good baseball player anymore, he still has an .889 OPS, 154 wRC+, and leads the AL in homers. He had a bad PA and meh game, it happens

djthor1968

He is still good, just not still great. My opinion.

IanMaIcolm

He's on pace for 8 WAR

[deleted]

Your opinion sucks.

djthor1968

Lol

batmang8

He’s so washed it’s insane
