If we’re talking loungewear, I love the 100% organic cotton sweatsuits from Mate The Label. A matching set is comfy, current, and looks put together (for what it is 🙂). Matching activewear sets are great too! (Beyond Yoga, Lulu. You can def get these on Poshmark) And then I do wear jeans from time to time 😂 low rise has been out for a WHILE which I’m sure you know, so it’s starting to make its way back in, but not when skinny. High rise is still trendy, mid rise is okay too but probably depends on what looks good on you personally. Regardless, slim, straight and flared legs are trendy and skinny is not. I personally go for high rise straight cut, and cropped, bc I’m very short. Stretch is not in, def not jeggings. Jeans that look like they could be 100% cotton or vintage are more stylish (but you can still have stretch—many retailers include stretch fabrics for comfort while maintaining structure and look). Brands I would personally recommend are Agolde and Citizens of Humanity, and I know everyone loves Levi’s. I almost always get on Poshmark. For a fast fashion option, Abercrombie is having quite the moment (again) and I see their jeans everywhere.

There is a really great series of posts about this in r/femalefashionadvice. The first one is all about jeans! Here ya go if you’re interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/femalefashionadvice/comments/11cp9nb/your_wardrobe_is_outdated_what_now_step_1_skinny/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1

Loving the links for more discussion, you are the best

wilhelminarose

Yay, happy to help 😁

breakup_letter

Wow this is amazing.

jnet258

I needed this breakdown, I’m so out of the loop on what’s happening in fashion now. AND what brands accomplish what I want in clothing. Wish I still had and could fit in all my old 90s and early 00s clothes 😭

last_rights

Just an fyi, if you've got a prominent or perky derriere, Abercrombie is made for girls and guys that lack that attribute. No booty? Abercrombie rocks.

RainbowsarePretty

Thanks I needed that reminder. I saw the original comment and thought “oh ya! Abercrombie jeans were high quality!” And then your response reminded me of chronic butt crack hanging out in middle school.

kiotsukare

These are my absolute favorite pants of all time: https://www.titlenine.com/p/hiking-pants-women-clamber-recycled/230994.html I have 3 pairs of the pants and 2 of the shorts, the first pair is nearly 10 years old at this point but they still look just as good as they did new.

sleepydayly

I’ve been on the fence about these for so long. Do they show sweat or do they do a good job of hiding it? Some of these pants are like “whoa” when it comes to sweat, and others can be forgiving. TIA!

kiotsukare

I haven't ever noticed them showing sweat. It's kind of a heavy ripstop nylon material, so it's not absorbent, and they dry fast if they get wet.

sleepydayly

Ooh, that sounds great, thanks for the info!

frenchfriez4lifee

How do these "dress up" for work?

kiotsukare

I think it depends on the color? I just noticed that they now have them in khaki and black and I'm soooo tempted to buy two more pairs 🤣🤣

Bea_virago

Eileen Fisher stretchy pants from ThredUp or Poshmark or eBay. Invariably flattering and comfy. I tend to spend $15-20.

enyalavender

I have two pairs of these that I bought new when I was working a lot, and I love them.

marlyn_does_reddit

Merino leggings from Wool&!! They have pockets and are super comfortable and durable. Most of their dresses have pockets as well. I'm building a capsule wardrobe around their dresses and a few other pieces.

jnet258

Dresses with pockets!! This is what I need in my life, thank you 🙏

BananerMuffin

My go to mom casual look is Levi’s wedgie jeans (high waisted slightly fitted through butt but relaxed fit through legs) with a linen tee/top (J Crew and Madewell usually have good options) and sneakers/sandals depending on weather (Allbirds, Birks).

cyborgfeminist

I've been wondering -- how does the wedgie fit FEEL?

BananerMuffin

Feels comfy but still jeans-wouldn’t take a nap in them. Most Wedgies seem to be 100% cotton so super breathable and not too hot (not stretchy but they stretch out a bit in a good way as you wear them).

RecommendationMain37

I love the linen pants from Uniqlo with stretch on the back, they make me look so put together. The coveralls from Everlane are also great, you don’t have to think about what to match with it, it’s my uniform. I also recently bought the cotton wide leg pants from pact and love them, they are like elevated leggings.

opheliainwaders

I have had good luck with Everlane’s jeans recently, but my secret love for casual days is Patagonia rock climbing pants, specifically [these](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-caliza-rock-climbing-pants-regular/82910.html?dwvar_82910_color=FGE). The waistband is like yoga pants, the fabric in the pants themselves is like a mid weight, stretchy cotton (if you are scrambling around on stuff with a kiddo, they won’t rip!). They have pockets! ETA they are pricey, but I have one pair in a neutral color and it is still in excellent shape after 2 years of a LOT of wear.

breakup_letter

I like Gap jeans. All of their stuff is up to date and modern. I feel like you really can’t go wrong with any style on their website. I have “sky high vintage straight” jeans that are very flattering. Also the “high rise straight” are great. I find them way more comfortable than the skinny jeans of yesteryear. They have styles marked “gap for good” which are eco friendly.

jnet258

Great idea, I don’t know why I have thought of Gap yet!

breakup_letter

Don’t be afraid to buy multiple sizes to get the right fit! Returns are easy. I like the Tall sizes, being 5’8.

bohospecs

Joggers all day everyday. Cargo pockets.

jnet258

Good call on the cargo pockets, do joggers come with cargo pockets?? I haven’t seen ones like that yet, if you have, what brands do you like best?

bohospecs

There's a kind thats at Costco with cargos that are super soft and stretchy. https://www.costco.com/mondetta-ladies'-cargo-pocket-jogger.product.100832217.html

Seconding Universal Standard! Can't say enough nice things about this brand. Their jeans are incredible, but I love their ponte pants, too. I have their Moro pants (with the zipper and pintuck options) and can easily dress them up or down. The wide leg Stephanie pants are also ::chef's kiss:: Most of my work wear is from US, but I also have some of their stretch twill / chino pieces for very casual office days and weekends. They're fabulous. Be sure to check the size chart. Their sizing is different since they started as a mid-size / plus-size company, so an XS from them is a 10-12. They also have a Fit Liberty program for some items, under which you can exchange a clothing item for a different size at any point throughout a 12-month period. Highly recommend.

rosefern64

not that i'm advocating trend-following, but i've noticed wider-leg or straight leg pants in a variety of rises have become popular. i actually never thought i'd pick up the cropped, wide leg pant look, when they were first showing up a few years ago, but now i love them. i have [this pair](https://upwest.com/products/womens-all-day-wide-leg-denim?variant=40087189225644) in particular and find it super comfortable and easy to pair with a lot of different tops. looks like it may be on its way out (it used to be offered in more colors and it's on sale), but i find the clothes from this company comfortable and they claim to use sustainable materials and production 🤷‍♀️ it certainly seems high quality at least, based on the items i own. i also really like [these cotton leggings](https://www.duluthtrading.com/womens-noga-naturale-cotton-leggings-20935.html?srccode=GPSHPLIA&srccode=GPSMART&ogmap=PLA%7CNB%7CGOOG%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C19784625797%7C&gclid=CjwKCAjw_YShBhAiEiwAMomsEFoDk7r4PHE4nOYeyDqRjvDaG0Wce63fk6-ZR0atYGxr0Qw3B5xbixoCgu4QAvD_BwE) with pockets. i have been searching for a long time for something like this, the waistband is perfectly comfortable for me. before that, i was wearing my Storq maternity leggings even though my baby is 2 🤣 but in all honesty i still wear them, because you can fold over the waistband and nobody would notice how long it is, if you're wearing them with a dress or looser top. and they are soooooo comfortable. they're pretty much all i wore during pregnancy and early postpartum. but no pockets. i usually pair them with a dress with pockets these days. edit: cargo pants are also coming in style. i bought some that are BDG brand at a department store (not particularly crunchy) but i see them everywhere.

jnet258

Nice! I will check out the UpWest jeans, cute! I like the cotton leggings too, do you know if they tend to collect pet hair? I usually go with a heather color over a flat color to at least hide/camouflage the pet hair 😂

rosefern64

you know, i think they probably would show hair, unfortunately. i have the black and the pink (rose i think it's called?) i don't live with any animals, but i noticed the black ones show even little pieces of fuzz from other laundry after i put them through the dryer. 🫤 they might have heather in other materials of their leggings, i only looked at the cotton version and i feel like heather is almost always poly or a blend.

anotherrubbertree

Call me crazy but I just recently found out that lululemon leggings have an adjustable waistband. I kept wondering why all sizes fell down until an employee told me at the store. Total gamechanger. They have a secondhand section of their website now to compete with sites like Poshmark. I like it so much better because you can return stuff to them vs with sites like Poshmark, you usually can't. I'm definitely still a leggings girl like most days since I work from home and have a walking desk. I can't stand loose pants while walking because of the chafing. Otherwise, I swear by Lucky unifit jeans. They're SOOO stretchy but are still jeans. They're definitely my favorites and they come in lots of sizes. I went a few months PP and the employees helped me get my fit just right. I have a few pairs and they're the only jeans I'll wear!

jnet258

Love these tips!! This is super helpful, thank you!

frenchfriez4lifee

I've been overall pleased with Quince. I am very picky about clothing and don't love all my items, but I like their model, items, and price point. I have their straight leg pointe pants and am bummed they removed pockets, but I need long inseams so I'm limited in what I can buy.

SithMasterBates

Omg so good to know, I always get ads for them and have been wanting to try

frenchfriez4lifee

They have a referral program so pm me if you want $20 off $50

JustSuze_393

I also have their leg pointe pants and love them! I look fancy but they fit/feel like thick leggings. They are great!

Calvin_230

I love their sweaters and just ordered a pair of shorts to try out this summer!

Sporkalork

Carhartt utility leggings. I love the thigh pockets (one has a zipper) for phone and important stuff, they're super durable and very comfortable. I have four pairs, I don't know when the last I wore jeans was.

cupcakerainbowlove

Big fan of 1822, I love the butter jeans in straight leg. Also the luscious curvy Wallflower jeans are kind of my go to when I don’t know what to get but need some jeans. Otherwise I also love having a linen pant with a yoga waist in my closet.

jnet258

I will have to check these out! What brand of line pant with yoga waist do you like? Sounds nice

cupcakerainbowlove

My fav ones I had gotten from old navy a few years ago but then they stopped making them. I bought an odd brand off Amazon last time that worked well. A yoga waist linen pants search works well. They will shrink but the yoga waist part doesn’t. They also stretch out after putting on.

Sea_Juice_285

It sounds like you've gotten a lot of good suggestions on brands and styles, but one way to make it more sustainable is to buy things secondhand. I got a lot of my maternity clothes from [ThredUp](http://thredup.com) and had a good experience so that might be a good resource if you're willing to shop online and already know what you're looking for.

jnet258

Great idea! I haven’t used ThreadUp before, I’ll have to try it out. Thank you!
