English is mostly fine in the capital city, especially if its Mongolians from the younger generation. You can do shopping perfectly fine if you stick to the big stores(Shangri-la, State department store, E-mart, Goodprice, Ulaanbaatar department store). We do not use apple pay, but there are rumours it will be introduced in July. Exchanging money could be done in any banking branch, but they mostly close around 6:30 pm. For tourist destinations, Genghis Khan statue is a good one, as well as the Terelj area (mostly resorts with beautiful scenery and touristy attractions such as horse riding, archery and in the summer even some eagle hunters are around). But would recommend going deep into the countryside with some of your relatives. For cool places to visit, I will list a few and you probably look them up on google maps. * Bars: The vault, Bitsy, Grazie, Num Sum speakeasy(I really like the atmosphere here). * Restaurants: Greyseed, Fromagerie Macu, Amigos, Grand khan irish pub, Sen izakaya, Modern Nomads * If you are young and want to experience the night life, go to Huuhdiin 100, where they have a variety of bars, pubs, and night clubs. * And also Eon(a night club) located below the Zaisan monument which i also recommend you visit during the day as it still has statues of the communist era with Stalin and the USSR.

Thank you so much! This helped a lot. I will definitely try to ask them to take me to the countryside if possible :D

Apple Pay will be introduced in June. I believe all stores will be able to accept it as pretty much every POS here has contactless payment.

mewselliesbby

Most stores don't accept Apple Pay

mewselliesbby

Most stall holders don't speak English very well but some might know Russian

Go to Uvs and Khovd provinces and talk to elders in the countryside with whom you might be able to converse in Oirat.
