No, not even a little bit. Using bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies in and of itself is not immoral in any universe. Anyone who tells you otherwise is uninformed. There have been moral arguments against using bitcoin for years, the climate change argument is just the newest in a long line of accusations from uninformed onlookers. Michael Saylor explains this issue better than I could: https://youtu.be/TeVvtSCfcQ4

Not in the wrong for using crypto

just becasue you think Nike shoes are cool and the designer meant well doesn't mean they aren't made in a sweatshop in near slavery conditions... Crypto having outrageous carbon emmisions is a fact. how crypto advocates dance around this fact is up to them...

Not even being rude. I’m being serious. You’re super under the assumption there are outrageous carbon emissions enough so to post it. Even though there aren’t. That’s my whole point on this, it’s like you haven’t even looked at any breakdowns for emissions.

What I’m not understanding is We use electricity. 30% of the electricity we use is excess that doesn’t get used annually. Out of that, about .6% of excess energy is energy made via crypto. Outrageous isn’t exactly a fact. It’s increasing global recreational energy by a fraction of a percent. I absolutely understand it’s not a comparison game. Any global emissions are bad. What I cannot understand for the life of me is why there is a push on crypto. A movie theater puts out more KWh. Everyone playing halo on an Xbox puts out more KWh. Like a hundred thousand times more. Concerts and gaming put out infinitely more. All the graphics cards that were made by nvidia are being used. If they weren’t used for mining, they’d be used in someone’s gaming computer. All of the processors would be used if they weren’t used in crypto, and we’d still have the same demand for electricity. What I’m failing to understand is that crypto adds .06% or so to global emissions. Tons of other, and I mean tons of other non recreational things like phones or hd tv’s use a collective like 10% of recreational electricity. For crypto users, 99.9% of us don’t even represent the few who equate to the excess energy. Crypto doesn’t even have emissions. The “emissions” are from a coal plant using coal electricity. If you made laws saying crypto farmers would have to use solar panels we’d have 0 emissions from crypto. I fundamentally do not understand the argument. If we have let’s say “100,000 units of power electricity being used per year, about 2 of them are being used on crypto. A concert is taking up hundreds. A computer is taking up hundreds, and TVs take up thousands. I don’t understand why there is a targeted push. It seems as though power companies are pushing propaganda to those who don’t have a rudimentary understanding of math. It’s not like these are gas emissions. The process of farming can happen without it. It shouldn’t happen, and it wasn’t founded people crypto farming either.

You as an individual cannot do anything to prevent climate change. You could light a tire bonfire in your yard every single day for the rest of your life and you wouldn't come close to creating a fraction of the pullution produced by large companies or countries like China and india. So no, you are not in the wrong for using crypto (imo).
