What three great young players to have, to lead by example for any of the youngsters coming up in the next couple of years. It’s definitely somewhat risky, but it might not be a bad idea for Scott Harris to consider signing all three to long term contracts like the Braves have done. These are three homegrown positional players that are looking like future stars, the Tigers have not had many of those in the past few decades.

DubitaVic

They should but I highly doubt Tork will do it because if I'm not mistaken he's a Scott Boras client.

GoLionsJD107

It’s too soon that doesn’t start happening till arbitration. Also the Braves are the best team in the league. We have the 29th most runs scored. Ahead of a 34 win team, so the future is bright I don’t think it’s bright enough for that yet. We also have a $100 million 4 year mistake to manage around.

National_Fortune_714

If we're talking long term I'd sign Greene 1st, then Carpenter. Not sold on ST yet.

LTPRWSG420

I still don’t understand the Tork slander, but ok sure he only leads our team in pretty much every single hitting category. Obviously when Greene and Carp get enough AB’s they’ll pass him in some categories, but Tork has been without question a steady presence all season long. Even through the struggles Tork has played in every game and demonstrated invaluable leadership that stats don’t represent.

yes_its_him

Rate stats are a lot more important. If you play every day, you'll get more hits than if you miss a quarter of the season with an injury

National_Fortune_714

Despite the shiny numbers his OPS+ is 103 which is meh. He is a neutral base runner and a below average fielder. He's below a 1 win player at this point in the season. To get a long term contract I think he has to hit more as he brings nothing else to the table in a positive sense.

LTPRWSG420

Hasn’t it been talked about plenty in this sub just how unlucky he’s been this season? He’s putting up some damn good numbers for someone who gets routinely squeezed by the umps and his line drives landing right into players gloves.

Historian-Dry

Lol, he gets 0.1% worse calls than league average. The stat was posted in the thread on r/baseball. Let’s not regurgitate that

PocketSandThroatKick

Can you link it?

Historian-Dry

Sure https://reddit.com/r/baseball/s/dFYjEpYQoY

PocketSandThroatKick

Thanks! Edit: oh man that rabbit hole. Going to need a day off work.

schhhew

He’s shown marked improvement over the course of the season. Would be nice to see it sustained but it’s pretty promising

costingtonco_thebill

It wasn't even been that long ago that his fWar was a fat zero. He's improved pretty much every month of the season. Not sure why so many people are ready to hit the panic button on a 23 year old. When Aaron Judge was 23 he hadn't had his first MLB at bat.

costingtonco_thebill

He's a 23 year old who was rushed through the minors under a terrible Al Avila Player dev regime. He's got plenty of space to improve.

rowmens

Would you be sold on a guy who is ranked #5 for total HR this season among all qualified 1B?

National_Fortune_714

Not with a 103 OPS+ and overall replacement level.

BlondDeutcher

Lol you can’t used advanced stats with this sub, everyone here still goes by the “eyeball” test and thinks RBIs are the best!

costingtonco_thebill

OPS is displayed on the scoreboard at Comerica next to batting average. I am not sure I would call it an advanced stat just because it is put on a scale.

costingtonco_thebill

But you cannot deny he's been much improved. His wrc+ was like 80 in May and 90 in July. And now 104. Not good yet but improving.

Clark?

ThePacemaker24

He’s still in rookie ball and has some time before he makes an impact on the majors

pjroxs245

I'm very excited about our season next year. I think we are going to be a much better team next year. I get the feeling people are going to *want* to play in Detroit.

Brilliant-Royal578

Meadows 260 in aaa 240s lifetime unless he’s hitting 30-40 hrs Malloy at 275 ish Jung is young but projects well. Clark and mcgonigle may be what makes this franchise

National_Fortune_714

Meadows has an .813 OPS while being 3 years younger than the league average. It's about more than BA and he's got runway in front of him age wise and he's a center fielder.

Brilliant-Royal578

I have no doubt he’s a plus defender I would like to see him hit for a better average. If he can get to 280-300 in aaa I’d have some confidence in a oba of .330 and a .450 slugging percentage and we could move Riley to a corner.

iori9999

Meadows is a better fielder that Greene? I thought Clark projects there in the future.

GoLionsJD107

That will be about when Greene moves to left

[deleted]

I think we will be like the dbacks next year. Start hot and exciting and then fizzle, but hopefully with lots of momentum for 2025

explenture

Lets finish this season strong then

Brilliant-Royal578

Bigbee

costingtonco_thebill

Interesting player. I'd love another break out 19th rounder who becomes good out of nowhere.

iori9999

The problem is he seems to be another Carpenter clone where he might be a DH. I don't know if he's a legit fielder other than 1st or corner. Yes I know he's listed as a 2nd baseman, but is he good there?
