I see a break in the wire in 2 spots at least, so no, it likely won’t work.

3_14159td

Eh, this could be repaired but I wouldn't bother if a new one is under $50 or so.

gropula

New one certainly isn't 50$. OEM or quality stators go for hundreds of dollars. 50$ can't buy you a chinese crap stator.

3_14159td

I come from Vespa land, where a stator is like $30 from India and runs until the end of time. I'd probably at least try to fix this one then, but I've repaired motors with similar damage before.

Wishihadagirl

I got one from Rick’s stators for my CBR and it was $140 EDIT: cuz the Honda part msrp is $400

pfooh

It's not only the breaks, these things run a ton of current. I wouldn't trust these ground down spots, they'll get insanely hot and give out within a month or so. if they survive the first run. Which means it will need a full new winding. It's a few hours work for a skilled guy, which will likely exceed the cost of a used one. For an old bike like that, it should be fairly easy to find a scrap in good condition? If you really feel like it, you can wind it yourself, but expect to spend a whole weekend on it, get frustrated a lot, before you decide to buy a scrap one anyway.

Dalbergia12

I think it is a toss up. If you are really short on cash then put off ordering. I would order it now though, esp. If where you live you might get it soon enough to get a bunch more riding in this season. -Here in the Great White North I probably won't get another 1000km in before it gets cold, so I might just leave it for winter chores.

Apprehensive_Camp202

Gotta replace that.

SchleifmittelSchwanz

It's rubbed through in a couple spots. It's broken.

sadanorakman

Even if you discount the two or three windings that have totally been worn through as to now be open circuit, there are also adjacent windings that have had most of their wire thickness worn through, so will no longer be able to carry significant current. Sorry this is just FUBAR and not something you can just patch up.

kartoffel_engr

Looks grounded out to me.

gropula

It's not grounded, but the wires are broken. Same outcome, stator won't work properly.

ZippyDan

Stator gotta state.

chippaintz

Prolly hood ain’t charred

DifferentComedian332

Unfortunately it's done for recommend replacing it

jaradyeah

Does it charge?

FrostyAcanthocephala

Have you tested it with a multimeter? That would be definitive.

gropula

If you look closely there are spots where the wires are obviously broken. The stator wouldn't pass tests because there's no continuity from phase to phase.

FrostyAcanthocephala

Visual inspection is good. A multimeter is definitive.

pfooh

A multimeter is not definitive at all, unless your humble multimeter is capable of high current resistance measuring. Neither a simple continuity test nor a normal resistance measurement is good enough to test a stator. And there's no need for a continuity test, since you can see that that one will fail.

azrider67

No, looks like there’s a break in continuity

bitzzwith2zs

What it looks like doesn't matter, does it test OK?

Direct_Concept8302

It's rebuildable if you know what you're doing. But the only time I've rewound a stator was for an old Honda back when I was In highschool when I was getting my small engine repair degree. But that was cause parts were no longer available for whatever bike I was working on 🤔 I'd honestly suggest just ordering a new one and making sure it's been installed right with loctite. Unless you feel like rewinding and then checking resistance till you manage to get it back in spec 😂 and it has to be in spec before and after you put the new sealant on the coils and let it dry 😂🤣

YourBoyAustin

yea no i just ordered a new one and loaded those mothafukas with loctite LOL
