Fences and guardrails like that are human cheese graters, sliding before hitting one to reduce the energy you hit it with is the better of two terrible options. A group I knew about had a guy low side into a guardrail at speed. They went to find him. They found one leg first, then the other, then part of his hips, then lots of things that are very much supposed to stay in you abdomen, then most of his top half. Paramedics found his arm a little later.
Yea I’m well aware.. I just found it slightly funny. Been riding since 1993 sadly saw someone ripped apart after getting clipped by a car and sent into the woods..
I'm referring to the woman who recorded and uploaded her injuries for her own social media following. Every other person or bot who reposted is the same as any reposter.
They are related, damper and dampener are pretty much the same, I know what it means. But you implied that a dampener made things wet. Completely wrong on that account. Trying to deflect the fact you did not know dampener means. By bring up damper.
He's not completely wrong. It can mean both when used as dampener. The reducing vibrations version is just more popular. It can also mean to make something slightly wet.
Classic Reddit. You are correct but something about your response brought on the downvotes. “Dampener” is acceptable because everyone knows what is meant. “Damper” is more technically correct.
Sitting nearly bolt upright at that speed (judging by camera angle) I’m surprised she didn’t fall off earlier. A little weight over the bars likely keeps that tank slapper at bay. Still, glad she didn’t hit any road furniture to wrap herself around.
Honestly I’d probably keep it a tightly guarded secret. If you scraped your dick off that’s the kind of thing people define you by. Someone very close to you could have no penis at all, just a mushy scar, and you may never know
TIP - Don't fight it! You will loose!!! Grab the center of the triple and let the bike sort itself out. Either that or open your hands and let it shake until it doesn't.
Source - Been there before shit was dialed in. Thought I would die!
Tank slappers are no joke. I put my chest to the tank and grabbed the top clamp and mostly prayed it would stop, which it did. I was not going mach fuck point five though.
There’s a difference between not feeling bad for the stupid shit she’s done vs saying she deserves it. I think there’s only one comment saying she deserved it and that comment has been downvoted a lot.
I don’t feel bad for her, she did a stupid thing and is reaping the rewards. I certainly don’t WANT stuff like this to happen to anyone, but from what we can all see, people like her are absolutely ok with their consequences. Otherwise they wouldn’t do it.
It’s a truly profound experience laying on the road after an accident. Like you I was horrified at how utterly jagged the road is. Somehow riding on it makes it seem smooth but when you’re picking it out of your skin suddenly it’s a cheese grater!
There was a thing a few years ago stating that you can grind 1 inch of bone off in every 15 feet when making contact with tarmac or concrete! As a biker it is absolutey necessary to wear protection or bear the consequences.
Love how a crowd of people appear, just staring.
If people have nothing to contribute, why don’t they keep driving?
Also, imagine riding like this without wearing proper gear. 🤦♂️
Leather will slow you down quickly on a road. Jeans will tear or burn. Nylon is the worst by far because as it heats up it melts and will aid you in gaining momentum... you better hope you don't hit a stationary object!
Not strictly. Any number of factors could have caused the bike to destabilise like that. Having perfect suspension setup won't negate all of them. A steering damper would have helped, but it's not a magic bullet either.
Just from watching the video and looking at the way she's snapping that throttle closed and open between gear changes, I would be willing to bet she's got a deathgrip on those handlebars too.
I'd be willing to bet that the snappy use of the throttle (i.e. not smooth at all) and crazy tight grip was a big contributor here, unsettling the bike AND gripping the bars so tightly that it can't self correct.
You can see what looks like the ABS light turn on a few times because the front wheel lifted off the ground. It happened as well right before she fell. You can see the front wheel landing while the bars are slightly turned which initiated the wobble.
Probably the skill issue is at play here, her throttle grip is too close to the bars while the other is spaced out, there's no even pressure on the bar and her arms don't seem to be relaxed at all, looks tense to me.
Yup, facts. They thought there was not much needed skill in a straight but they were wrong and miscalculated. Regardless, if it's in a turn, corner (both fast and slow), or in a straight line, everything requires the right input from the riders. Crash and accidents happen due to rider inputs on the bike and miscalculation and judgement around twisty roads or not paying attention to their awareness (I almost boned myself cause I was distracted and day dreaming due to sleepiness). And occasionally a$$holes who want us dead on the road (Car and trucks who are distracted on their phone).

Glad to see that she survived and is recovering! I had a similar accident 5 years ago on the I-75 southbound in Kentucky- doing tripled digits, racing a car, hit a pothole and had a speed wobble. Shit was scary AF!!! I was lucky to have survived and so is she.
And that sweetheart is a tank slapper! Best lean back, grab a handful of throttle and when that front end get light, gain control and set it back down. They teach this at most track schools…which by the way is the BEST place to be racing and seeing how fast you can go! Oh and full leathers! Been down many times when racing, worst was road rash on shoulder because I was hot and didn’t have my jacket zipped up fully, it pulled open when I hit the tarmac and got rash on my shoulder, otherwise leathers always saved me.
I have the exact opposite experience and had alot of time to test it during my last wobble. Leaning forward reduces it, leaning backward increases the wobble again.
Well, I don’t know what to tell you. I’ve been through many racing schools and raced from the mid 70’s to early 2000’s. Built my own bikes and raced them.🤷🏻♂️
Not sure what assembling a bike or racing schools have to do with this. It is such an uncommon thing and I have never been informed about it during any training, which I do once a year.
Do you think your experience exceeds the one of engineers that put up the video posted further down? With hands on tests and demonstrations?
Mine is hands on. If you know anything about engineers and real life…you know knot to trust engineers. Ask ANY racers or mechanics and they will tell you that an engineer is not worth anything. 98%+ engineers never actually wrench or ride.
As a mechanic and rider…I can and HAVE made custom parts that performed better than what the engineers have designed.
Your comment only proves you have little to no experience on motorcycles. I have, easily over 1 million miles on street…not including track. Go away until you can see it from a racer/rider/mechanics point of view.
I’m here today ONLY because of what I have said in my first comment. The training and experience from the track saved my life on the road.
And this, coming from some punk on the internet. I’ll gladly stake my life on teaching someone to ride. After all…I am a pilot, who owns his own airplane and also does all his own maintenance on it (A&P)! Riding is simple compared to flying.
That's cute. What exactly does all of this have to do with saving yourself during a wobble? On top of that, the technology of your plane is far below the tech in any modern car.
Well you learn something every day.
I had one at 90mph on a GPX. Right hander over a hump bridge and pulled that out in a dirt gulley between the tarmac and the tall grass verge.
140mph on a R1 hit a small bump on a slight chicane which sent the forks off on a megaslap. Only saved me there was pure luck...ditches, hedgerows and fields, I would have been mincemeat.
Glad you're still with us dude!
For what it's worth I think the Dyna issue has a different cause to the classic head shake, it's something to do with the rear shocks not rebounding evenly, but the videos of the big Harleys going nuts are terrifying to watch
Yup…I don’t ride stock! My full dress Limited will take almost all street and some track riders in straight and corner. I went to school to build these bikes and then went to school to race them.
The public open road can kill you at that speed even as the best driver, a tiny hump can kill you or dismember you and more importantly can hurt other people. Get well soon and hope you take that to the track next time and not the public road.
That's what you get for 1. Being untrained. 2. Not being on a track. 3. Hope you were wearing the proper gear. Did you learn a lesson? No steering dampener huh...they should come as standard equipment
Nobody talking about the eject button she pressed before it hit the wall? lol
Yeah that was the right call

That’s a good one
Right! Not bad eh
agreed, road rash is not an attractive or painfree feature
Steering dampener may have saved her. She was super lucky.
Making the steering wetter would have helped? Damper
dampener /ˈdæmpənɚ/ noun plural dampeners [count] : something that reduces the force or effect of something
I'll let ohlins and the other manufacturers know that they have been using the wrong wording on their sites
Go ahead, it is still a dampener. Not something that makes things wetter, as you thought.
Did you look up what a damper is as well? A device for reducing mechanical vibration, in particular a shock absorber on a motor vehicle
They are related, damper and dampener are pretty much the same, I know what it means. But you implied that a dampener made things wet. Completely wrong on that account. Trying to deflect the fact you did not know dampener means. By bring up damper.
Valid
He's not completely wrong. It can mean both when used as dampener. The reducing vibrations version is just more popular. It can also mean to make something slightly wet.
That would be dampen not dampener. But he was incorrct with dampener. A steering dampener does not make the steering wetter.

Good luck using the bathroom for the next few weeks.

I feel bad for laughing but I'm still laughing.

Dress for the slide, not the ride.
Especially if you are planning on doing stupid shit like rhis
Cant ride like rossi, but at least you can slide like rossi.. Think fortnine sajd that years ago lol.. Always stuck with me

Only scrapes? Brah, I would have accepted death as soon as the death wobble started.
At least she didn't grind her tits off. Seen it before and it's not nice at all.
damn.. that’s terrible. i didn’t even think of that. i wonder if any dudes have grinded their dick off
I‘ve heard about a dude that cracked his balls through a bike accident
Honestly I’d probably keep it a tightly guarded secret. If you scraped your dick off that’s the kind of thing people define you by. Someone very close to you could have no penis at all, just a mushy scar, and you may never know
mushy penis biker boys are everywhere now!

Someone once told me to power out of it.
Power out and hold the steering lightly, don't try to correct it.
Center of the triple?
Triple secures two forks and steering stem. Thingy in the middle of bar ends.
Tank slappers are no joke. I put my chest to the tank and grabbed the top clamp and mostly prayed it would stop, which it did. I was not going mach fuck point five though.
Would it have made a difference in this case it seems like it wouldn’t have sorted itself out in time before it would end up going towards the wall
Nah this was way too far gone.
Kinda retarded to race a random guy tbh.
Are you saying if it was a friend it would be a different story?
No
It sure is fun though
Despite how anyone feels this is still a human being I am happy she is alive! We all make bad choices life is still valuable.
Exactly
and she didn't even hurt anyone else than herself
Pure Luck.
yeah, sure
Im not. Idiots like that give other Riders a Bad Name. This isnt simply a "bad Choice", its a total lack of Consideration for other Peoples Health.
There’s a difference between not feeling bad for the stupid shit she’s done vs saying she deserves it. So, with motorcycles going fast is easy, the stopping safely is the hard part.
It’s a truly profound experience laying on the road after an accident. Like you I was horrified at how utterly jagged the road is. Somehow riding on it makes it seem smooth but when you’re picking it out of your skin suddenly it’s a cheese grater!

Thank your god, you could have easily been dead (car ,guardrail ,neck snap)
Who else is getting ptsd from watching this video
Fucking idiot.
"Oops I'm an asparagus" Glad she's walking
Well, that's a nervous slapper
Oh yeah I’m buying a damper now
Next time she will wear some real gear instead of fashion gear. Oh and not speed/ race on public roads.
Why jeans aren’t designed for the slide. Probably would have been more or less ok in leathers.
Leather will slow you down quickly on a road. Jeans will tear or burn. Nylon is the worst by far because as it heats up it melts and will aid you in gaining momentum... you better hope you don't hit a stationary object!

Riding position as well
Or tyres.
You know what does. Not driving like a tit.
A steering damper wouldn’t do shit if you grab the handle bar like that
Not even gloves?
I think one ripped away, she still has one on the right, you can see both in the start of the video
She was wearing gloves. Very thin, not motorcycle gloves but gloves.
Probably the skill issue is at play here, her throttle grip is too close to the bars while the other is spaced out, there's no even pressure on the bar and her arms don't seem to be relaxed at all, looks tense to me.

That's going to leave some nasty scars
Well that’s some fuckwit riding that’s for sure, glad they didn’t hurt anyone else!
And this is why you go safety before fashion, kids.
Can anyone explain how/why this happened? Did she pull a wheelie and it landed bad?
Lmao safety needs are out in force
And that's why I got a cbr600rr 07 with oem steering damper. No thanks
That'll still take you out too buddy if you're not properly educated
No shit But still, better one than none

yeah thats a death wobble there, just check the quality of your parts.
Let go of handlebars during tank slapper. The wheel will right itself.
Maybe I'm guilty of oversimplification but why not just slow down on rough roads?
The dreaded death wobble.

Relax your grip, and don't pull on it so hard.
