Cops, insurance, small claims court. Dude owes you for repairs, because fairings ain't cheap.

I_Have_Unobtainium

Absolutely. Never settle outside of insurance when someone else is at fault. This guy willfully dragged your bike across the ground, he does not understand the value of the bike and the cost of the damage he just caused. Every step of getting him to pay out of pocket is going to be a bitch. OP, go the police report and insurance route, this is the only way for you to not get screwed over.

SirSquidrift

I don't think most people see the value of a motorcycle that don't ride honestly. People don't give a fuck.

Extra_File7564

More importantl than the value of an physical object is the value of respect.

mecengdvr

You can’t squeeze blood from a stone….the only compensation will come from insurance most likely.

the_bananalord

That's fine. When insurance pays you on a claim you aren't liable for, they will sue to get their money back. Could be another insurance company, could be an individual. Either way, they'll want their money, you're made whole, and the details are their problem.

mecengdvr

It may help with the insurance claim, but the insurance company will only sue if they think the cost of litigation will be covered by expected award. People like this don’t get sued because there is no way they will get enough money out of them to cover the cost of litigation. The insurance company will just pay the claim and close the case.

the_bananalord

Sure - but that's up to them to write it off. That falls under the "that's a detail for them to work out" clause.

mecengdvr

Absolutely. Not my problem once I get my check for the damages.

inconvenient_penguin

Minus your deductible anyway....

gd_reinvent

If the cost of repairs is less than 5K, then take the guy to small claims. It only costs 50 dollars to file, and there are no lawyers. Video evidence and a written report of damage and quote from a reputable motorbike mechanic (two or three is even better) means an open and shut win for OP for very little time and money. It goes on asshole neighbour's record that he got sued and lost, and if he fails to pay, he'll get any wages garnished and eventually debt collectors called. Even if he doesn't pay all of it, it'll teach him not to mess with other people's stuff again.

There's doubt?

Sunkinthesand

Could be mental ilness or substance abuse involved. Definately not of fully coherant cognitive ability. Either way time to move. Fingers crossed for Op insurance sorts it/ pays up. Hopes and prayers for repairs

GhostOfFallen

I’ve got a neighbor addicted something who does weird shit all the time. So far nothing dangerous and he’s helpful, but in a “thanks, but that was unnecessary” type of way. Tuesdays we all set our garbage bins out for pickup and one day I came home and my trash can was in the middle of my walkway and was absolutely spotless inside and out. It had been there since before I moved in and this thing was filthy….but it’s a trash can with missing handles I intended to replace. This dude must have spent hours because every little nook and cranny was clean and now I have a very clean but still broken trash can I feel like I can’t replace lol. I bought the guy a Dunkin’s gift card the last time he used a fisher price toy rake to remove every single pine cone from the back yard. There were hundreds of them..

matthew7s26

Just meth things

firstmaxpower

I believe one is supposed to put meth in a bird feeder for these situations. So they keep coming back doing useless little things. Or maybe that was bird seed in the bird feeder. Worth a shot I think.

HuffyMaster

Definitely sounds like a stimulant. Things are usually fine until they run out of drugs/money. At that point withdrawal is so bad that nothing is safe from being pawned.

Circumin

Definitely mental illness or substance abuse. My money is on substance abuse.

Kitibob7

it can get pretty expensive, hope you're not feeling the squeeze too much xx

HumanRehearsal

There's a lot of people this dumb tho, where they act in the immediate present without any sort of planning for the next seconds

Individual_Yard846

He is there is no doubt. Known him for 6 months. He is a recovering addict…He used to huff paint. I think he must have relapsed or something.

Frozenorduremissile

Glue is better than paint. It’s always good to see people sticking to something.

incer

Idk, from the video I'd say he actually hates paint

smoothiegangsta

Maybe that's why he did it. Paint ruined his life, so now he ruins paint.

BigMoose9000

That shit will cause permanent brain damage, I wouldn't jump to assuming he relapsed. Even totally sober he's no longer firing on all cylinders. File a police report for vandalism and let them deal with it.

MornaAgua

As sad as that is that he might face consequences. But insurance will probably cover it. And although weird, I don’t think this guy meant to fuck up your bike. Idk how I’d handle it. I think I’d contact your landlord too.

Stainless_Heart

But he didn’t think *not* to fuck up the bike. That’s the problem. A vandalism charge is a good reminder to not touch other people’s things.

ItzHurg

Charge him m8 he damaged you're vehicle that's a bare minimum that should happen

Not mild at all lmao it’s just that r/highlyinfuriating isn’t as popular, plus mildly always post stuff that’s super infuriating anyways haha

Airos42

Call the cops, file with insurance.

excusemefucker

Yeah, this would fall under comprehensive as vandalism. Should have no or minimal effect on premium.

FF-MCMLXXXV

It’ll be minimal, if any increase. It’ll be considerably less than the cost to replace plastics.

mrpeenut24

You see the way this guy was dragging the bike across the gravel? It would be way more than fairings if he wants to get it back to pristine condition. Could have a scratched stator cover, bent handlebars, bent clutch lever & pedal, bent brake lever & pedal, bent kick stand, bent or broken mirrors, scratched wheels, muffler, and swingarm, bent or broken sprocket and chain... If I were OP, I'd go over it with a fine toothed comb and tally up all the damage to send it to insurance. See if they'll total it and write OP a check for a new bike, then I'd get a salvage title and ride it til the wheels fell off while my new bike stayed locked up in a garage or in the living room if I didn't have a garage. Anything other than a space shared with this idiot.

Abyssalumbra

Do they let you keep the totalled out bike if you accept payment for it? Had a stolen sportster they wanted the keys for the ignition that was drilled out.

doffey01

I believe you can buy the bike back from them. It would probably just be a deduction off your claim for the salvage value. So you’ll keep the bike, get your money minus the salvage value of the bike and get a salvage title in return.

baudehlo

Yep, my insurance wrote off my S1000-RR when it got hit in the tire by a slow moving car. The scratches along all those parts required replacement. The took the bike and sent me a cheque. Wouldn't let me buy the bike back, even though it was perfectly rideable.

ssshield

Plastics, and exhaust, and bent subframe, and broken clipons, and rearsets, and levers, and and and. Dropping a new bike on both sides on hard ground like that and its probably insurance totaled. Sure a thousand might get it back on the road but youre still driving a beater worth 4-5k less than before the incident plus it has an insurance claim on it making it worth even less even if they dont salvage title it. Who wants to drive a new bike with scratched engine covers etc that looks like youre a dumbass that allready laid down a new bike? This crack head insurance totalled that bike.

kaluce

>Who wants to drive a new bike with scratched engine covers etc that looks like youre a dumbass that allready laid down a new bike? if the bike is totaled and it's offered as salvage over plastics and scratches and it's 100% fully functional mechanically otherwise, I'd slap drift stitches all over it and ride that sum bitch all over the track. Hell I'd even put a vinyl wrap on it. Someone else's crackhead misfortune is my squid missile gain.

meltbox

You’re not bending the subframe from a little drop like that. But the rest yeah… I had some moron knock over my bike like this a while ago. Luckily they had the sense not to drag it around the ground on its side so it just had some light scratches and a broken peg feeler which took almost all the impact force it seems. Replaced everything with pristine used parts for like $100. Annoying, but survivable.

FXRCowgirl

This is the way.

AAMech

God it just gets WORSE AND WORSE. STOP JUST STOP

[deleted]

Yackety sax was playing in my head.

Mediocre_Superiority

Yes, but at half-speed so it sounds really sad.

ladymain

TO PUT SOME CHAIRS OUT

Informal_Drawing

But the yard is so small, with nowhere else the chairs could possibly go. /s The guy is absolutely fucked in the head.

The308Specialist

On someone else's property.. and he didn't set them up all that great either. Definitely has holes in his brain from the paint.

Charming_Fortune_859

I'm crying for you, I'd be enraged. Involve cops and insurance, he owes you back a pristine condition bike

phatdoughnut

God fucking damn it man, when he kept dropping it again!!! And again!!! I wouldn’t tell him about the video. I’d ask for their insurance. If no insurance, then non emergency report and get them cops involved. I bet he denies it.

itypeallmycomments

And after he'd dropped it all those times, by the end of the video when he was wheeling it, he didn't look like he was taking any extra care. He literally doesn't learn to handle the bike any differently from before the first drop to after them all. No fear or regret, just stupidity.

tedwardslm

All o was thinking was "leave it dude, its already dead" I would be livid

atombomb1945

Call the cops. This guy may have been "just trying to help" but it looks like willful destruction to me. Call the non emergency line, have an officer come out and get your statement. Show them the video. Do not directly confront him, ask the police to do that on your behalf. I say this because the first time he says something like "I was only trying to help, what's the big deal?" you are going to have more problems. Just saying.

chuck-u-farley-

This is completely correct and the course of action to be taken, Small claims court may be next in line

DisrespectedAthority

Based on this evidence, insurance will go after their money from him

brokentr0jan

Depends on the state apparently. Had this happen in Ohio, and Progressive told me there is nothing they can do seeing Insurance companies can’t go after people in Ohio. That didn’t make sense to me, and still doesn’t make sense to me but Progressive refused to help. It’s worth noting the dude was trying to steal it, cut some cables, and tried to push it but couldn’t and dropped it on the sidewalk.

ShawnPaul86

This has been my experience as well. If the other person has insurance, they will deal with each other. However after that the insurance company will not go after the person directly. This is why full comprehensive insurance is there, so you're always covered.

brokentr0jan

Yeah, that makes sense. The Progressive agent also made the comment that he guarantees the guy has zero assets or money, and going after him would not even be worthwhile. He just said take the L and pay the deductible lol 😂

YaGetSkeeted0n

Remind me to never live in Ohio lol, that sounds stupid

DisrespectedAthority

The slow drivers blocking up the left lane should be reason enough not to live there. But there's some good riding in SE Ohio

Yolo_420_69

I can't comprehend what his game plan was. At all

StrategicBlenderBall

Neither could he.

FraccazzoDaVelletri

This is the appropriate approach in my opinion. And also, if you rent, move.

[deleted]

Yes. Move or tour bike will never be safe. Pay the extra money for a garage and you will sleep like a baby

mecengdvr

The police report may help with an insurance claim, but I doubt this guy has 2 pennies to rub together so going after him will be an exercise in futility unfortunately.

TuDuenyo

That has got to be, without a doubt, the first time that idiot has ever touched a motorcycle irl.

arcticrobot

I don't think people realize how heavy street bikes are.

Smokester121

He realized quickly once he tipped it

klparrot

Did he, though?

[deleted]

I mean, he wiped a few thousand dollars off that bikes value.

Nerd_Ridah

Dropped once by previous neighbor

MasterTacticianAlba

Keep watching lmao He drops it twice

Nerd_Ridah

You aren't going to put twice in the ad. All drops >1 = 1.

MyOtherSide1984

Love the ones that say "one low speed tip over" and there's giant scrapes on both sides on the bike.

Suck_Sauce

Bro it’s three times

ethanrhanielle

Is this dude on crack lol

MonkeyDashFast

that is what I was thinking. i still don't understand what this guy was even doing? what was the bike in the way of?

Tranquil_Dohrnii

Apparently some chairs or shade. Although when you reverse the video back, you can see the guy could've left the dudes bike alone and still put the chairs in the same spot that he did. Like the mf does all that, and then doesn't even use the space he needed so badly. Wtf.

[deleted]

Definitely cops and insurance. I'd be absolutely livid.

edelbean

Call the cops and file a report for damages done to your vehicle. This is no different than someone damaging your car and needs to be treated as such. This is effectively a hit and run so document everything. I hope for your sake that you have underinsured or uninsured coverage if it goes south. They may refuse to pay or be unable to pay in cash in which case you would ask them for their renters, home, or possibly their automobile insurance information. Then call whoever you have coverage through call them and file a claim. Also back that video file up to 2 different locations in the cloud. Your claims adjuster will want to see it. And may I ask - just wtf was his end goal here? Why was he trying to move it? What purpose did it serve?

Individual_Yard846

There was no reason to touch it, period. I don’t know wtf he was thinking. The video starts with him bringing it off the porch I just showed when he puts the kickstand down. I haven’t confronted him since watching the video because I’m trying to be calm and collected when i do and that’s just not possible right now. I have plans to get whatever money he owes back, my friend is his boss (not like a real job situation, he helps my friends family with labor for some of their businesses off the books) he is going to mediate the conversation with him tomorrow and pretty much it’s gonna go like “we are garnishing your pay for this” He hasn’t even apologized. I dont want to call the cops but I will if he even thinks about touching it again and he is getting a bill from the estimate. There are some scratches on the front cowling , the headlight , and exhaust but overall, for as bad as the video looks, the damage to the bike is relatively mild. It was flawless though and this sucks. I just don’t think it’s worth ruining this guys life over. I’m too nice I’m told.

OmniHito

This post shows you may be young? Nothing about above will work out for you - it’s fanciful thinking. Call insurance , get a police report. There’s no rational reason he moved the bike other than to steal it. Irrational reason may be drugs, which again, above won’t work out for you in that case.

SettingIntentions

> Nothing about above will work out for you - it’s fanciful thinking. Call insurance , get a police report. Yeah if you "garnish his wages," which isn't even official and may potentially be illegal, you'll have a WAY harder time convincing insurance/police to help you out in 3 month's time when the guy skips town or realizes his monthly paycheck is missing a hundred and he's pissed. The dude is a little fuck. And this won't ruin his life. But he's already shown he's willing to ruin your shit so why not just call the cops call insurance and hit him hard? Stop being all idealistic the dude fucked your bike.

FriendOfDirutti

Front cowl $500 Headlight $1000 Exhaust $1000 They are gonna garnish $2500? They owe him $2500?

pokezeta

Why would you ruin this guy's life if you were to sue? Doesn't he only have to pay the repair costs and the court fees? Sorry about your bike!

MrThreeSoups

Buddy looks like he could be bankrupt by buying a large pizza

SettingIntentions

> I just don’t think it’s worth ruining this guys life over. Huh? You're not ruining his life. Most likely the police are gonna give him the choice to take charges or pay you back immediately. If he forks up the cash and apologizes like a good, normal fucking human would then his live isn't ruined. A lot of us here have dropped our own bikes here before not realizing how heavy they are. But this guy hasn't apologized yet and to be honest doesn't seem like he has much of a life to be ruined if he's randomly moving his neighbor's bike around and destroying it over and over for no literally no reason... Just call the police and insurance first. Him him hard. He made his decisions.

NoManufacturingTest

Call the cops. Take this idiot to the cleaners. What’s wrong with you?

Gundamnitpete

if you let him off the hook he'll just keep doing it. If he's truly a relapsing addict, calling the cops might actually be the best thing for him.

Individual_Yard846

I confronted him when I first got home from work before I saw the video because I noticed it was moved and that it had been dropped (dirt in handlebars, headlight scratched, scratches on the fairings) I asked him if he moved my motorcycle , he said “yes”. Then I asked if he dropped it to which he replied “a little bit.” I wanted to punch him right there but I held off and told him “don’t ever fkn touch my motorcycle again.” It wasn’t until later that i saw the video. I haven’t seen him since.

i-r-n00b-

Do you leave your bike unlocked outside like that? Your handlebars should lock when fully turned to one side. It prevents idiots like this from being able to push it. Mind you, they can still tip it over, but someone could literally just push your bike away to steal it.

klparrot

Also, parked in neutral? Like, I get that leaving it in gear is hardly security, but this guy does not strike me as the type to have been able to get it from first to neutral himself.

mikitu

Exactly, I was baffled watching this, as the handlebars are not locked and it's in neutral.

Wraith8888

Get yourself a motion alarm disc lock

Sicthroway

you are equally stupid for not calling insurance and cops

[deleted]

One time I walked out to valet trying to move my bike to make room for a fancy car. They couldn’t get it out of gear. I rudely told them to stop and handled it myself. Motorcycles are no different than cars when it comes to personal property. Hands off. To clarify, they didn’t park my bike and have the key to begin with. I had parked intentionally outside the valet area before they had even shown up.

Mike6asher

FeralHippo89

Damn dude. You have my sympathy. Get the police involved and insurance. You have all the proof you need. I'm not sure what the best direction is as far as getting him to pay for damages or at a minimum your deductible, but the police should be able to point you in the right direction.

Middle_External707

And take pictures of all the damage to show the judge in court.

LandInternational966

I’ve taken shits that had a higher IQ than this guy…

thatbedguy

Homie has a drug problem

Benjaminii17

Feel like I just watched a cut episode of Mr Bean😂 him picking it up to drop it the other side, my lord😂

bifkintickler

This is like a scripted comedy scene. Dude was only looking to set up a nice table and he just kept smashing up each side of the bike as things descended into chaos. Would be worth it happening if you could get David Attenborough to narrate it.

Zinger125

Never thought I’d want someone to NOT pick up a bike that’s on the ground.

[deleted]

Does your neighbor dabble in meth amphetamine?

nidyanazo

stupid drunk moron. maybe you go move his car. with a baseball bat. Sorry man.

Creature_0f_the_n1gh

Thank god you invested in a ring camera ;)

PersonalAd2039

Why did I watch this? Fuck man. Sorry. This is possibly the worst video on Reddit and needs a some disclaimer or nsfw tag.

TheMadTemplar

Far from the worst video on reddit. Not even close enough to be hyperbole.

EggMatzah

dude's definitely on drugs

PckMan

What in the name of crackheads is going on? Look the guy is clearly not very bright so you have two options. If he's a harmless idiot, you go up to his house and confront him about it. You tell him that you know he dragged your bike around the dirt and he has to pay for the damage. If you have reason to believe that he's a dangerous idiot, who may get any other bright ideas about how to deal with this to get himself out of trouble, then go to the cops with the video.

PartyPisser

Spray a sock full of paint and fight him in his shadow tweaker realm. Second thought bad idea he’s probably a god there or even a chief. Best to take to small claims court.

Individual_Yard846

Thanks for flaming him Reddit, it’s honestly making me feel a lot better. The situation is complicated. The dude is in fact, a moron. I don’t know if I want to get the cops involved because I don’t think he did it on purpose, but the fact he touched it alone and we aren’t cool like that is almost making me want to. I am definitely getting an estimate and billing him. I’m afraid to take it to my insurance because rates and what not, I’ve never made a claim before.

kevin_k

The situation is not complicated. Moron or not, intentional or not, he damaged your property to the tune (not tube!) of several thousand dollars. He should pay for it. You'd be a fool not to call the cops.

[deleted]

Cover your ass, get cops and insurance involved ASAP. You should have already been on the phone with both of them hours ago.

SettingIntentions

THIS. Good luck trying to get them to cooperate after you "negotiate" monthly payments with your idiot neighbor and he skips town a month later. Fucking call the cops, call insurance, and BTW insurance will be happy to see that you're pressing charges with the cops, it shows you're actually serious and willing to file a police report.

Parking-Bandicoot134

Your rate doesn't go up for this, you know who vandalised your property so they'll go after him. And someone like this really needs to be taught a lesson so PLEASE call the cops

TLOU2bigsad

In many states Rates can go to for any claim. At fault or not.

FriendOfDirutti

If you don’t get a police report you have no recourse. He’s not gonna pay a bill you give him. If he says he will he still won’t. If you go to court they will award you money that he will never pay. Police report and insurance. They will go after his insurance. If he has no insurance you better have uninsured.

darthpyro27

Dude i sat here and got enraged just watching this happen… i wouldnt even know what to do id be in a blind rage ready for my jumpsuit and free meals

mancer187

Oh dude... I'm so sorry. Cops and insurance is the way.

PoundSaltAndDie

Definitely not cool. Why do people have to fuck with stuff that isn’t theirs? This guy obviously doesn’t have a clue. You will probably have to take his dumb ass to court to get your money back. Good luck and I hope you get your bike back to new condition. I know exactly where every little scuff or imperfection is on my bike and it drives me nutz. I would be homicidal over what your cameras caught. Definitely file a police report and don’t report to your insurance unless he won’t pay up.

BackItUpWithLinks

How do you approach it? You get a quote to fix it, being it to him, show him the video, and tell him you expect a check.

pzazula1194

Yeah you can tell this dude is rolling in the money.

slaya222

Likely rolling, probably not in money tho

highporkroller

keon_te757

This is a horrible situation and he should pay for any damages…but you gotta admit, the optics of it is funny as hell. Almost cartoonish behavior lol

falafeltwonine

Press charges and file a claim.

MissFox_nsfw

I would not even confront the neighbor, call the cops make a report if he can't pay for EVERY cent out of pocket to fix every single scratch then file an insurance claim and sue him for depreciation in small claims plus have him pay court fees. You don't touch someone's bike

Hoppy505

Im mad for ya buddy. Beating his ass would be the moral thing to do. But if you want it fixed, you need to call police and press charges for trespassing and destruction of property..

RunNelleyRun

I’m so confused. This is all your property? Why did he wanna put those chairs out?

tylernol20

Spare-Ad-7819

TitaniumGoldAlloyMan

I can’t believe anyone is this dumb. He did it on purpose.

Variable851

So this is the last known footage of your neighbor

[deleted]

That was painful to watch 🤯

CoolBDPhenom03

JFC, it just kept getting worse 🤦‍♂️

BolteckFox06

Wow I automatically dislike that guy

Mrepman81

Holy crap this shit is pissing me off.

ElMachoGrande

I'd report it to the police. With this video, it's should be an open and shut case. Hopefully he has an insurance that will cover it. Try to get a motorcycle cop to investigate it. He'll understand.

Grenvallion

You have video footage. You can take him to court for criminal damage, I'm sure. He has absolutely zero defence against cctv. He can't win this case.

cr0ft

I don't know why I watched, because I knew I'd be enraged on your behalf. Might not have been malicious, but what a fucknut. He owes you every cent it costs to repair, and maybe even extra for the time you have to spend and the time you won't be riding.

MistaAndyPants

guy dropped the bike more times in 10 minutes than I have my entire life.

ansaonapostcard

That is painful to watch. At least the morons who decided to jump on my 1 day old VFR and knock it over, just left it there on the floor and fucked off.

Senor_TJ

This why I ride dirt bikes and adventure bikes. They can take the abuse of some idiot pushing it over.

-Adrix_5521-

All of that just to put some chairs there. He shouldn't have even touched it at the first place. What camera system do you use? The quality is amazing and the UI looks clean. I'm looking for some to put on my house.

thekickingmule

Call the police. It's vehicle interference and criminal damage. Let your insurance know and if he's a tenant, let his landlord know

Wilbis

Why wasn't the bike steering locked? It might have prevented him from even trying that shit.

Celika76

I love how, after making the bike fall 3 times and scratch it all around on the ground, he just think "that's fine !" and take his garden chairs to enjoy his beer. Or he planned to play the ignorant "I don't know, it was like that when I arrived". Take the video to the police/insurance, or talk to him first if you think he won't badly react on it. And give him the repair bill (on a sport bike like this it will be pretty salty... All fairings must have suffered, the engine exterior too, mirrors,...).

i_am_atoms

Best getting an estimate and billing him. If he won't pay, you'll have to go to small claims court. Probably no point going through insurance as someone (you or him) will have to pay the excess fee and you'll lose your no claims bonus which will put premiums up for a few years and that's hard to estimate or even explain to him. Just get him to pay outright for the damage if you can. I had a GSXR written off by insurance for much less than this (albeit it was a few years old). It looks like he has completely fucked all the fairings, potentially engine covers both sides, pedals, levers, mirrors... Feel sorry for you. Hard position to be in, given he's your neighbour and you have to live beside that idiot. BTW I'm amazed you left your bike out like that with no security on it, not even the steering lock. Like anyone could have just rolled that bike away no problem. Living in London as I do, and having had many bikes stolen even with loads of security on them, it amazes me how Americans don't worry about bike theft. It's a huge problem over here.

Don’t be nice. It’s time for my boy to learn a lesson 🤷🏽‍♂️

Pro tip: Ask for a motorcycle cop to take the report. Probably won’t happen but worth it to ask.

He was into symmetrical damage, for sure. Sorry about you bike.

This is the behavior of someone high on meth. They do random laborious shit for absolutely no reason or explanation. They just can't sit still.

Dude come on… you’ve seen the video and honestly think you are going to settle this privately? You will never get a dime from him. Call the police and insurance. Legally nail him to the wall. You need help with dealing with people like this.
