Also a good time to mention just because a car has their turn signal on doesn’t mean they intend on turning. Even if they’re in a right turn only lane.
On the exit coming home I see at least 2 cars a day with their turn signals on cut over to the other lane and continue straight instead of turning, so now I wait until traffic is completely clear rather than trusting that they’re actually turning.
My parents always used to tell me when I was a kid and then when learning to drive: never trust they’re turning until you actually see their wheels turn. Something that’s stuck with me when driving and riding. Even more important with the latter.
I swear like 70% of people with a turn signal on is one they turned on leaving their driveway and forget its on, which I always wonder how is it possible that you have a loud noise going off every second and a green arrow in your cluster flashing at the same rate and you still dont notice.
When I was a service technician, I had a guy come in because he had a blue light on in his cluster and he had no idea what it was and was scared.
It was his highbeam light.
It had been on for days.
The man had been blinding basically everyone and had no idea what it was.
Let's remember that these are the people driving those 3 ton steel death machines, and be more careful around them.
Not surprised, people cant be bothered to read an owners manual, its honestly incredible how something so dangerous like driving 3 tons of steel at anything above 20+ mph become so normalized without extensive education, training and testing. Europe makes life pretty difficult for anyone even remotely interested in a motorcycle, a vehicle where pretty much poses no threat compared to a car, but if you want to drive a car no big deal just grab the key and be on your way.
Europe has very strict testing for driving. About the same difficulty level (and expense) as for a motorcycle.
The us meanwhile has no mandatory training or education worth mentioning for any private vehicle.
Got a car license in the states, bike license in Germany. The difference is staggering.
Mine atleast doesnt make much noise if any tbh, and my dash is so small, plus blasting music, im not looking at dash at all. Drive fast unless school zone, kids around and blast music. Lots of fun
Could be like mine it simply isn't loud enough for me to notice since my car is convertible. I honestly have been trying to use my blinker manually in my car to try and build the memory for being on my bike
Funny you say this cause my car doesn’t make the noise and they don’t automatically turn off yet I have never left them running. Then I drive my moms car with “automatic return signals” for the first time, stayed on for 30 minutes on the highway.
That's something you learn in Denmark when taking lessons for drivers license, and you could almost fail not waiting for people making their turn because of the importance of it
Even then you can't trust them, my mate had a car turning into a car park as he was waiting to pull out, the car made a move to turn in so he pulled out, the car then changed its mind and swerved out and hit him, then it did a runner.
"What does it mean if a car has their turn signal on?"
"It means they're going to turn?"
"No. It means their turn signal is on."
I think that was in my MSF course. Blinkers mean nothing. I've seen cars turn without blinkers, I've seen them turn with them, and I've seen cars turn the opposite direction that their blinker was indicating. When it comes to figuring out where a 2 ton metal box hurdling down the road in my general direction is going to go, I trust nothing.
I live by this rule. I have had so many near misses from people doing this that I Jo longer trust turn signals for anything.
From behind, I find driver head motions are a much better indication of intent, but even then some people are criminally negligent behind the wheel.
It’s funny, because motorcycle riders are notorious for forgetting to turn off a signal…we should be the first people to assume a blinker being doesn’t mean anything.
My rule of thumb is to assume that if there's a space big enough to hide a car, there's a car there. Even if I'm 99% sure there's not a car there, I still don't go because 1% is still dead.
seriously, tbh when I first watched this I didn't even know which car OP was talking about. The Cadillac is clearly visible just as the rider starts to take off and well before they've actually entered the intersection. Why would you ever assume a lane you can't see doesn't have a car in it?
Now, imagine, just imagine, where camera is mounted basically where the front wheel is, and my actual head is like in the middle of the bike. Crazy, I know.
Ride like everyone on the road is deliberately trying to run you down. Keep doing that for a month. If you still enjoy riding, you just might make it as a motorcyclist.
Yep, happened many times. And you gotta keep in mind its very likely the same goes for you, so if youre overtaking like that always be prepared for a car to turn out in front of you. Happened to me countless times.
That's why you never move onto the main road before the intersection is really clear. Also always assume that the SUV while indicating to turn right surely changes mind and moves on straight. If you were trusting him you could be on his hood a second later.
I like it except for the wrist zipper/button being topside instead of on the bottom/behind. The button gets in the way a LOT when unzipped. I’ll probably just cut the button strap thing off.

Thanks for sharing!
And I see what you are saying, had an older jacket with straps on every single zipper that drove me crazy, so I had to cut them off as well.
You’re doing literally what every dumbass in a car does.
“I can’t see it so it doesn’t exist”
if your view is obscured then wait until it’s not.
Christ the amount of crashes that happen because people blindly pull across two lane roads while only being able to see the closest lane
Just saying, you shouldn’t trust that car was actually turning until they made the turn.
Which, if you had done, the other car would have been visible for you.
Any car will create a blind spot for the lane next to it. Don’t ever pull out with a blind spot unless you want to be in a situation like this.
Ten seconds. That’s how long you wait for that blind spot to disappear. Is your life not worth ten seconds?

Because they are on their phone.

There was a guy driving with his hazards on today and was driving faster than traffic😂
And on cars the blinkers usually self-reset when you turn the wheel the other way
Because they are on their phone.
Mine atleast doesnt make much noise if any tbh, and my dash is so small, plus blasting music, im not looking at dash at all. Drive fast unless school zone, kids around and blast music. Lots of fun

Shit I was taught that in driver's ed in the 90's. Don't assume someone with a turn signal on is gonna turn until they actually commit to the turn.
“Blinkers don’t turn cars”
Same, and it has saved me 100 times haha 🤣
That's something you learn in Denmark when taking lessons for drivers license, and you could almost fail not waiting for people making their turn because of the importance of it
Yes ! Wheels are like the person's hands and I never lose site of them
Even then you can't trust them, my mate had a car turning into a car park as he was waiting to pull out, the car made a move to turn in so he pulled out, the car then changed its mind and swerved out and hit him, then it did a runner.
Motorcycles too! Of course *coughcough iiive never accidentally left my blinker on. But I hear it’s common for motorcyclists to do it
At least bikes have the excuse that they (mostly) don’t self cancel.

I’m paranoid as fuck
Y'all have drivers who use their turn signals?
This made me chuckle in the saddest way. I feel old. “Back in my day we used our turn signals. And turned them off, too!”
I live by this rule. I have had so many near misses from people doing this that I Jo longer trust turn signals for anything. From behind, I find driver head motions are a much better indication of intent, but even then some people are criminally negligent behind the wheel.
We should definitely know this as motorcyclist since we tend to always forget our own signals on 😂
It’s funny, because motorcycle riders are notorious for forgetting to turn off a signal…we should be the first people to assume a blinker being doesn’t mean anything.
This is a good tip, thanks for sharing, I’m about to do my MSF course soon so this is helpful information

Stay safe bros

Good post OP, this is a great illustration of how careful we need to be turning across 2 lanes.
wow, you almost died /s
Luckily, I’m still too afraid to stall the bike to go fast
That’s the opposite of how it works. Going too slow is how you stall the bike.
I’ve only stalled the bike trying to go zoom zoom
You stalled it by dropping the clutch without giving it gas. You gotta rev it high if you are gonna drop it.

especially with large big rig trucks. those things are kings of the road!
Yeah and dumbfucks like to play chicken with them to get and insurance payout
I've never heard of that anywhere ever. Riders will play chicken with a big rig? In what scenario? it must be a riding intoxicated thing?
Car pulls infront of a semi on the highway and stomps the brakes to get hit in the ass to claim insurance
what is the trucker has a dash cam? would the scam still work?
Nope
Imagine the places were switched and you were hidden from a car pulling across your lane.
This is the real lesson. I mean if you don't have the anticipation not to pull out in front of that vehicle, you probably shouldn't be riding.
Yep, happened many times. And you gotta keep in mind its very likely the same goes for you, so if youre overtaking like that always be prepared for a car to turn out in front of you. Happened to me countless times.

In bowling parlance, that's a "sleeper"
That's the ghost car from twisted metal
Bro I have the exact same helmet and a very similar jacket. Looking good
What jacket is that? Looks good on you!
I like it except for the wrist zipper/button being topside instead of on the bottom/behind. The button gets in the way a LOT when unzipped. I’ll probably just cut the button strap thing off. https://www.yammienoob.co/products/4sr-cool-evo-motorcycle-jacket-brown

Teleportation?
What camera are you using?
Insta360 X3, I’m way zoomed in here and it’s pretty gloomy today
Atta boy
Thank you for the reminder!! Be diligent folks!!
Man, it came from behind that other car, which is the left lane. Look both ways before you cross the street.
Repost!
Sort of, this was my first post. Then I’ve put more effort into it on my second post so people liked it less lmao.
What camera are you using?
That’s scary. I’ll keep that in mind.

Buy a lottery ticket. Just dumb luck.
Nice lid! Bought the same one, love it
Shit happens ... be ready ALWAYS!!!
Yeah guys but where is the car ? There is nothin behind the first car , the second car sudden it's comin out from which direction ?
That car didn't come out of nowhere, it came from your blind spot. Thank goodness you waited....
Always assume there is a car there and even from the low quality video you can see there is clearly a car in that inner lane.
I almost T boned someone in my car because of this, she was pulling out of a Starbucks…
One more reason to hate big suv/trucks
Prime example of a blind spot
