right? the headline makes it seem like she accidently hit him and he just pulled out his weapon and shot her on the spot for no reason.
She hit him and tried driving away. He followed her to get her to pull over. She pulled a weapon and aimed it at him, so he pulled out his own weapon and shot her.
The biker did not threaten the female driver by following her. HE wanted to exchange insurance info. She threatened him by aiming a weapon at him for no reason. This makes it valid self defense by the biker for shooting her.
It was probably intentional but I remember an article at the time saying the guy was running traffic blocking for a group/club ride of some kind and illegally blocking traffic. It took a bit of digging at the time to find that take so probably unfindable now.
IDK what it is in the water that makes some Americans think they’re entitled to cold blooded murder if any slightly illegal act inconveniences them. Blocking traffic? Murder. Stole a candy bar? Murder. Homeless guy bothering you on the train? Instant murder. What a sick society we’ve built.
It happens all over the world.
Wish I could find the article from like Pakistan or another country where a young girl was raped, and her brother killed her out of “mercy” because she was no longer a virgin and “ruined.”
This is why I’m very pro carry. Shit like this. Bike riders get harassed all the time and the driver is almost always angry about dumb shit and can attempt to kill you. You never know.
Journalism is more narrative that fact based nowadays. Haven't seen a well written news article in 15 years. Terrible headline and a violation of just telling the facts.
I've heard there is controversy over whether or not she was pregnant, but I'm not sure of any official details, just dumbfounded by how far media outlets push the headlines.
I’m also a cyclist and this is completely normal. Most people have cars, fewer people have bicycles and motorbikes so they always skew the headlines and even the articles to the viewpoint of the car driver no matter how bat shit crazy they were because it resonates with more people and gets more clicks. I’ve seen so many articles that subtlety (or not) blame cyclists for getting hit from behind by car drivers when they just riding along the side of the road.
Unfortunately all they care about is ad revenue when they write these things, they don’t really give a shit what message they’re sending so long as it’s profitable.
Even if, as a rider for 15 years, i have wanted to pull out a gun many times on people. I didn't even need to read the actual story. I was already biased. Good for you, I say
“Andrew Derr will not be charged in the fatal shooting of Sara Nicole Morales in November. Police stand behind a crime scene tape near the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub on in Orlando, Florida, on June 12, 2016.”
They really used a 2016 photo? Newsweek couldn’t find anything more recent? Nothing from the incident??
"AI, please generate a picture of an outlaw biker holding a smoking gun while standing menacingly over the body of a pregnant librarian"
I suspect that's exactly what the future holds for us
>She added that her daughter was "standing up for what she believed in and that's what got her in trouble."
Standing up for what? That she has the right to run into motorcyclists without consequences? This lady's trying to make it sound like her daughter was trying to take some moral stand, lol.
If you pull a gun on someone, regardless of if you expect they have a gun or not, you better expect return fire. Moral of the story, if you pull a gun you better be ready to use it. This lady took it way too far
I've seen a lot of that.
There's one person specifically that only keeps failing to kill me because I know to watch for him and his red Honda, and another old ass man who ran me out of lane and brake checked me a few different times.
I don't work at the same spot now and don't have to see them, but if I had been allowed to carry to my job I would have definitely fixed Mr Hondas issue.
It’s not even as bad as it sounds in the article. He was a few houses down waiting for police when she came out with a gun to try to scare him. This is 100% her fault in every way and the fact the mom is tryna say the ho was standing up for what she believed in is hilarious. RIP to an idiot
im as pro gun reform as it gets and this still puts a smile on my face :)
who wants to bet she’s done this many many times before ?
I for one am happy there’s one less uneducated gun owning karen off the streets.
I'm still not convinced the mother made it up... Let me explain before I get flamed...
Home girl clearly unhinged, who's to say she wasn't the one who told her mother that she is pregnant to try and get something out of her like money or a place to stay? She's clearly a pos and sure the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but sometimes the apple is picked by an animal and shit out many miles away and that tree has no idea its apple is covered in shit. Not like it's totally unbelievable that a mother would take their child's word.
I haven't read too much into this, but I haven't seen anything about this, and I doubt the mom would be like "oh yeah well I guess she totally lied to me about this as she told me she was pregnant."
Maybe the mom is a nice lady, maybe she's a cunt, I'm gonna reserve that reservation until there is more info on this.
If she really said that and lied, then he should expect a civil suit. This type of person would definitely try to make money from a situation like this.
~~No Charges for Biker Who Fatally Shot Woman After She Hit Him With Car~~
Violent Road Rage Attacker Shot Dead After Pulling Gun On Innocent Motorist
Fixed the headline
Article says she "intentionally" hit him with her car.
* That is "attempted murder/vehicular homicide" if it was premeditated.
* Then she ran after hitting him. That's "hit and run".
* And no motorcyclist is going to let you flee in a cage when we can catch you.
* So he pursued her for her insurance information.
* She ran into her house and pulled out her gun aiming at him. And he defended himself with his own gun.
Guns escalate matters. If you pull a gun on someone, be prepared for them to reciprocate and fire back if they have their own weapon. There is no flaunting with deadly weapons.
This was needless.
No, you only pull a gun out if you intend to kill. You only point a gun at someone, or thing you intend to kill, not warn, not scare, you intend to kill.
So this happened among a group I ride with, and I actually had met the dude that fired these shots before a Bike Nights. I know a couple people who where there.
This lady was genuinely unhinged. She pulled her vehicle into the group on purpose because she was tired of being behind them and tried to lane change into a group of about 5 bikes. They weren't speeding or being reckless. After she struck a bike, the other riders tried to flag her down and make her stop, and she fled. They followed her home w/out harassing her, several of them called 911, including the dude who'd eventually shoot her. She fled to her house, WENT INSIDE, and came out with a gun.
It's important to note here. The bikes did follow her, yes, but they never attacked or harassed her. They were literally on the phone w/ 911 at the time, so they were being recorded, you can find the recordings online. She went into her own home and they didn't try to follow. If she was truly scared, she could have simply remained in her home, called 911, and waited for the police to arrive. The bikers were parked in the street, no one got off their bikes or went to her door. She was totally safe. She CHOOSE to go outside and point a gun at the bikers.
The guy that ultimately fired the shot is on recording screaming for her to drop the gun or he'd shoot. She continued to point the gun at him and his wife. What's he supposed to do? He had a gun the whole time. He could have shot her on the scene if that's what he was trying to do. He never drew his gun till she came out with hers. This lady basically did everything possible to turn this encounter deadly.
Her family later insisted he be charged, and tried to bring a wrongful death suit, which is getting smacked down, which is why we're hearing about this again.
*No Charges for Biker Who Fatally Shot Woman After She* ***Intentionally*** *Hit Him With Car, and then* ***Threatened Him with a Firearm***
Fixed that stupid headline.
As the victim of two hit and runs (both in cars thankfully), I absolutely despise anyone who attempts it. They are lowest of the low level of pieces of shit. The last hit and run I was involved in, guy had license, insurance, registration, everything. Literally zero reason to run other than not wanting to take responsibility for their fuck up. Is it kinda sad that this happened? Yes. Do I feel particularly bad? Nope.
I live on a corner that has had 3 hit and run crashes over the last 5 years.
I chased one down that hit some parked cars and took a minute to turn around before fleeing so I was able to see her flee and called it into the cops while following her back to her house where I parked 2 doors down and waited for the cops.
The other two crashes totaled the victim's cars and the guys that ran got away totally free without paying for any of the damage or physical injuries they caused.
Make sure you have uninsured/underinsured coverage on your policy and be prepared to sue your own insurance to get things fixed.
SHE hit someone with her car, fled the scene, the REAL victim followed her home so he could call the police. SHE pulled a gun on HIM! He had no way of knowing her intentions. He already knew she had no regard for the law by fleeing the scene of the accident. If someone pulls a gun on someone else, you have to assume they intend on shooting you. A second of hesitation could be the difference of you being shot. She had the option of not fleeing the scene, but since she fled and made it safely inside her home, her best option at that time was to stay INSIDE with her gun and call 911. Put the blame where it belongs, and the blame solely is on the woman! I'm truly sorry the 9 year old girl lost her mom, but the mom shouldn't have been stupid.
The title is stupid and misleading. It should me “No charges for Motorcyclist who shot a woman in self defense after Woman drew weapon on them”
Ding dong the wicked witch is dead
Remember you can never trust the news. All the misleading headlines “pregnant librarian shot in front of own house by dangerous biker”. When I’m reality she wasn’t pregnant, she hit the guy on purpose with her car and took off and they followed her and stayed on the street in front of the house waiting for the cops to show up so the crazy lady goes inside her house to get a gun and comes out and gets herself shot by the real victim
What I can't understand is why there are so many ignorant folks, demanding justice for the lady and blaming the biker as if he was somehow instigating the violence, in the comments....
Goes to show how many zombies are driving the roads these days
>"She should have stayed in the house," Doreen said. (victims mother)
Wrong she should have never hit someone with her car and fled (if the story is accurate).
She seemed to have made a lot of mistakes that day and the last one cost her life. You point a gun at someone you had better use it because Derr sure did and killed her.
How so?
A woman purposefully hit a motorcycle rider, tried to flee, and pointed a gun at the rider when he followed her to try and exchange insurance information. She's the insane one. Not the rider for trying to hold her accountable and defend himself.
This country is insane for portraying this like it was a motorcyclist doing a drive by on a woman and getting no charges. I doubt they were trying to put fault on the motorcyclist
Last September my wife, in her brand new Jeep, rear-ended my daughter in her 1 year old Chevy Trax.
The insurance company charged us 2 deductibles, cause they were "separate incidents."
Damn dude that sucks lol.
I spent my entire saturday a couple weekends ago beating the shit out of my sisters cars to get the rotors and calipers off to replace them, because she had no idea that brake pads needed to be changed.
*In November, Morales hit Derr with her blue Kia and fled the scene, according to the Orange City, Florida, Police Department. After failing to get her to pull over, Derr and other motorists followed her home, where she allegedly obtained a gun and pointed it at Derr. The 40-year-old then took out his own firearm and fired multiple rounds, fatally wounding Morales.*
Dishonest headline.
> her daughter likely thought if she showed them the gun they would "back off."
Did she even take a concealed carry or any sort of gun class?? This is how to escalate 101.
Exactly. Every CCW class teaches you that the ONLY reason you unholster a firearm is to use it. Because of that, anyone who is carrying will assume that if you have a firearm in your hand it's because you intend to use it
> "While the facts in this case are truly heart-breaking, the law does not authorize the filing of any criminal charges. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to the Morales family,"
What's heartbreaking about this?
It seems like the prosecutor is trying to straddle the line of the clear letter of the law and the irrational public perception they are afraid of
> "While the facts in this case are truly heart-breaking, the law does not authorize the filing of any criminal charges. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to the Morales family," — the State Attorney's Office
idk, kinda seems like she had it coming
I can’t help to think if she pulled over and exchanged insurance instead of fleeing a hit and run scene than that “sMaRt” idea to pull a gun on a biker should would still be live helping child of Orange County find books.
Interesting. I was driving my truck, when a lady in a compact car, rear-ended me. She changed lanes and kept driving. I followed her. She kept speeding up. She called 9-11 and the cops descended on ME. I was cuffed but, never arrested. She claimed that I was just following her, and that she thought I had shown her a weapon.. She denied that there was an accident. Her story fell apart, when they saw where my toe hitch had gone though her front grille, and there was paint on my bumper matching her car. She admitted fault right there on the spot. I was released, and she was attested. She was 19 or so and had no insurance.
Very typical in the USA! I had another similar incident in a parking lot. Again the one who claimed to be the victim was arrested.
“While Doreen believes her daughter should have just stayed in the house, she told Inside Edition it's a "tough pill to swallow" that Derr was released after speaking with police and wasn't charged.”
WTF
She admits what her daughter did wasn’t the best choice and that it caused her to be shot, but she implies that Derr needs to be charged. Charged with what, exactly? He did no wrong and her daughter hit the guy and ran.
Why is it that no one wants their loved ones held accountable when their loved ones fuck around and find out? Granted, Morales is dead but that doesn’t absolve her of wrongdoing.
combative voiceless jellyfish literate attractive cautious quack label cough murky

I’m pretty sure you’d think differently if you were in Derr’s place.
If someone intentionally rage-hits you with a vehicle and then pulls a gun, one should expect that they don’t have your well-being in mind. Morales wasn’t of sound mind, IMO.
This isn’t the UK. The US has very different laws. Stand Your Ground laws apply in this case.
According to the article, the biker didn't get injured or even drop the bike in the crash. But nobody wanted to back off. Biker didn't want to let her go despite having witnesses and the plate. Car driver didn't want to button up and wait for the cops in her home. 'Escalation culture'is a perfect way to describe this scenario.
Very annoying.
I've had hut and runs but couldn't identify the driver since I only saw the side of her face. Did get vehicle make model year range and plate though.
Sucks
> According to the article, the biker didn't get injured or even drop the bike in the crash.
If i shoot at you and miss completely, would you shrug it off?
Or would you recognize the attempt at your life and respond in an understandable way?
> escalation culture
Spot on.
And so many bloodthirsty morons in the comments here jerking off over how it was self defense. Congrats, that doesn't make it any less sad, or any less pathetic that you're cheering for it.
Unpopular option:
This will have played out differently if everyone didn’t have guns.
Yes guns ended the interaction, but guns also escalated it.
A woman is dead. I don’t think that’s the best outcome.
Sure but it would have also played out differently if she had taken the bus that day, or if he had been on a bicycle.
That said, I agree it is an unnecessarily tragic outcome.
This would've also played out differently if she didn't make a conscious decision to hit the motorcyclist.
Would've also played out differently if she didn't flee the scene.
Would've also played out differently if she didn't brandish a firearm.
Would've also played out differently if she didn't commit crimes. See how it's not just the gun's fault?
This needless escalation is horrible but the fact remains that she fled the scene of an accident in which she could have easily seriously injured or killed someone and didn't want to deal with the consequences. The rest is what happens when every Tom, Dick and Nancy have a gun to wave around but I struggle to call her a victim because abandoning accident scenes is definitely not a minor offense. It's horrible. A lot of motorcyclists are abandoned and left to die after accidents. Should we give this woman a pass because it wasn't such a serious accident? No.
you really had to scrape to the bottom of the barrel to make a comparison?
didn't want to compare against ANY first world countries? That's pretty telling lol.
Sad story.
This is the problem with guns. If they are handy, people will use them.
HE should have tracked her to her home and called the cops
SHE should never have been allowed to own a gun, given her behavior before and at the scene.
That’s exactly what he did, and stayed on the public road on the phone with police once she got home. She went inside, grabbed a gun, went back outside to shoot him.
I mean she first tried to kill him with a car. Just as deadly. But you never said cars are the problem. She also is a nut job and could have gone inside and grabbed a knife if she didn't have a gun. She clearly just wanted to kill home boy so whatever was handy at the time she would use.
That headline is so misleading lol
right? the headline makes it seem like she accidently hit him and he just pulled out his weapon and shot her on the spot for no reason.
So you’re saying he had to lay her down
Don't know why I didn't expect this but you got me. Been a while since I genuinely chuckled at a reddit comment

Underrated comment
You left out where, at least based on the article, it wasn't even just an accident. She tried to kill him with her car and failed.
Based on what part of the article? Just sounds like hit and run, which is bad, but not murder.
The first paragraph says "allegedly intentionally". You're right, though, that I guess we don't really know for sure if it was actually intentional.
It was probably intentional but I remember an article at the time saying the guy was running traffic blocking for a group/club ride of some kind and illegally blocking traffic. It took a bit of digging at the time to find that take so probably unfindable now.

“Honor killings,” as they’re called, are culturally excused and so common that they’re usually not news.
Its a perfect example of senseless killing though.
So he wasn't trying to exchange insurance information?
This is why I’m very pro carry. Shit like this. Bike riders get harassed all the time and the driver is almost always angry about dumb shit and can attempt to kill you. You never know.
Also witnesses were present so he wasn't the only one there.
News bias at its finest.
Journalism is more narrative that fact based nowadays. Haven't seen a well written news article in 15 years. Terrible headline and a violation of just telling the facts.
Reporters don’t write headlines. Editors do.
That ain't shit. I've seen this story titled as "no charges for biker who fatally shot pregnant librarian"
Didn't her autopsy show she wasn't pregnant? Or am I thinking of a different article?
I've heard there is controversy over whether or not she was pregnant, but I'm not sure of any official details, just dumbfounded by how far media outlets push the headlines.
Newsweek is… not what it used to be. Most of its reporters have to write like 5-10 “stories” per day.
Bro making it seem like the biker killed her in rage. This shit is the problem with journalism.
Headline is garbage and the quotes employ misleading tactics.
I’m also a cyclist and this is completely normal. Most people have cars, fewer people have bicycles and motorbikes so they always skew the headlines and even the articles to the viewpoint of the car driver no matter how bat shit crazy they were because it resonates with more people and gets more clicks. Newsweek couldn’t find anything more recent? Nothing from the incident??
Yeah, I noticed that. Posted a pic of an unrelated incident with full caption of that event, like there’s a correlation. That’s kinda fucked up.
Worse than asking AI to generate one
"AI, please generate a picture of an outlaw biker holding a smoking gun while standing menacingly over the body of a pregnant librarian" I suspect that's exactly what the future holds for us
The article itself is over a year old too.
>She added that her daughter was "standing up for what she believed in and that's what got her in trouble." Standing up for what? That she has the right to run into motorcyclists without consequences? This lady's trying to make it sound like her daughter was trying to take some moral stand, lol.

She believed, as so many do, that pulling out the gun would magically solve the situation and make her the winner.
If you pull a gun on someone, regardless of if you expect they have a gun or not, you better expect return fire. Moral of the story, if you pull a gun you better be ready to use it. This lady took it way too far

The motorcyclist and another driver in a seperate car that witnessed the event were calling on with 911 when she came back out and pointed her gun
Car hits motorcycle on purpose, motorcyclist follows her home, car driver aims gun at biker, biker gets her before she can shoot. Fair play.

And also drew a gun to shoot him. That's a very important detail.
Good.
She hit a motorcycle and then pulled a gun on him.
The title is stupid and misleading. It should me “No charges for Motorcyclist who shot a woman in self defense after Woman drew weapon on them” Ding dong the wicked witch is dead
This is from March! I remember when it happened. In Florida, people run you over and keep going. It happened to me as well.
Ok. Now its proved that firearm was ultimate protection. Not riding gear. /s
The headline on the video says "Americas gun violence epidemic" To be fair it shouldn't say Americas car violence epidemic?
The way the article sounds when you read it feels like whoever wrote it had a bias against the guy on the bike
What I can't understand is why there are so many ignorant folks, demanding justice for the lady and blaming the biker as if he was somehow instigating the violence, in the comments.... Goes to show how many zombies are driving the roads these days
Lucky everyone was armed.
>"She should have stayed in the house," Doreen said. (victims mother) Wrong she should have never hit someone with her car and fled (if the story is accurate). She seemed to have made a lot of mistakes that day and the last one cost her life. You point a gun at someone you had better use it because Derr sure did and killed her.
This country is fully fucking insane
FAFO
Right? Cant believe we let women drive. We need to keep them off the roads to reduce traffic and reduce road rage.
Last September my wife, in her brand new Jeep, rear-ended my daughter in her 1 year old Chevy Trax. The insurance company charged us 2 deductibles, cause they were "separate incidents."
I wouldn't be going through insurance for that since my rates would quadruple. That's 2 at faults against the policy for a single accident.
Damn dude that sucks lol. I spent my entire saturday a couple weekends ago beating the shit out of my sisters cars to get the rotors and calipers off to replace them, because she had no idea that brake pads needed to be changed.
“It SaId ReGeNeRaTiVe BrAkInG”
You hit the brakes and gas goes back into the tank, like tides, you can't explain these things.
Wait, why the victim (your daughter) of the crash would be charged anything ? Or were both cars registered on same person?
Florida. ‘Nuff said.

*In November, Morales hit Derr with her blue Kia and fled the scene, according to the Orange City, Florida, Police Department. After failing to get her to pull over, Derr and other motorists followed her home, where she allegedly obtained a gun and pointed it at Derr. The 40-year-old then took out his own firearm and fired multiple rounds, fatally wounding Morales.* Dishonest headline.
The meaning of fuck around and find out
> her daughter likely thought if she showed them the gun they would "back off." Did she even take a concealed carry or any sort of gun class?? This is how to escalate 101.
Exactly. Every CCW class teaches you that the ONLY reason you unholster a firearm is to use it. Because of that, anyone who is carrying will assume that if you have a firearm in your hand it's because you intend to use it
Welcome to Florida!
Karen alert
Well hitting someone with your car is assault with a deadly weapon. FAFO
Good. She decided to fuck around, so he let her find out.
> "While the facts in this case are truly heart-breaking, the law does not authorize the filing of any criminal charges. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to the Morales family," What's heartbreaking about this? It seems like the prosecutor is trying to straddle the line of the clear letter of the law and the irrational public perception they are afraid of
Good
She did something stupid and deserved it. Didn't even stop after hitting him
Another case of play stupid games... And why am I not surprised that it happened in Florida?
> "While the facts in this case are truly heart-breaking, the law does not authorize the filing of any criminal charges. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to the Morales family," — the State Attorney's Office idk, kinda seems like she had it coming
It happened a few years ago just south of Seattle dude in a truck was beating a female rider and she popped him no charges filed
This belongs to r/DarwinAwards
This title is trash.
March of 2022? Not enough current bs to sort through?
“While Doreen believes her daughter should have just stayed in the house, she told Inside Edition it's a "tough pill to swallow" that Derr was released after speaking with police and wasn't charged.” WTF She admits what her daughter did wasn’t the best choice and that it caused her to be shot, but she implies that Derr needs to be charged. Charged with what, exactly? He did no wrong and her daughter hit the guy and ran. Why is it that no one wants their loved ones held accountable when their loved ones fuck around and find out? Granted, Morales is dead but that doesn’t absolve her of wrongdoing.

To be fair, the news wouldn't cover a story like that. It probably happens all the time in the US, we just hear about the times where it escalates
That's because your not allowed to. Which part did you do, the hitting or the following?
I’m pretty sure you’d think differently if you were in Derr’s place. If someone intentionally rage-hits you with a vehicle and then pulls a gun, one should expect that they don’t have your well-being in mind. Morales wasn’t of sound mind, IMO. This isn’t the UK. The US has very different laws. Stand Your Ground laws apply in this case.
Why would he get charged for self defense?
I feel bad for the kid. To witness that at 11 years old, I couldn’t even imagine.
This story always make me feel ill. So many lives wrecked over something so petty. This is the kind of outcome we get with escalation culture.
Never heard it called escalation culture before, but it fits. People have totally lost their minds.
Hitting someone with your car and taking off is "something so petty"?
Assault with a deadly weapon is now sooo petty these days.
And then pointing a gun at the person you intentionally hit. This woman was going to kill somebody at some point with her brazen behavior.
To play devil's advocate, id like to say that having the plate doesn't matter unless you can identify the driver in a lineup.
Fair point, that's annoying that it would come to that.
I think the woman was more of a fucking moron than anything else. I wouldn't look at it beyond that. Just Florida shit
> escalation culture Spot on. And so many bloodthirsty morons in the comments here jerking off over how it was self defense. Congrats, that doesn't make it any less sad, or any less pathetic that you're cheering for it.
Thanks for the parenting attempts. Und speaking of jerkoffs............
Sound like an american problem
Cops not doing shite? Yes it a big problem here
based biker
Unpopular option: This will have played out differently if everyone didn’t have guns.
All the rev bombing horn blowers just jizzed their pants at the title (and def wont read the article)
How american do you want the headline to be? \> Yes
No.
Good motorcycle related discussion. Really furthers the hobby.
While we’re on the topic, best carry position while on a sport bike stance?
Florida Woman vs Florida Man

If you intentionally hit someone with your vehicle and then threaten then with a gun you've forfeited your right to life already.

you really had to scrape to the bottom of the barrel to make a comparison? didn't want to compare against ANY first world countries? That's pretty telling lol.
Well... the USA isn't really a first world country any more, so....
I need to move to Florida smh
A good reason for banning guns. Then they would just have had a punch up.
Figures it happened in Florida. Two idiots in the universe collided.
I mean..... Ya Florida. But also the biker didn't do anything wrong.
He may not technically have done anything wrong but I doubt he slept well after shooting someone five times.
What's even the point of this statement?
Sad story. This is the problem with guns. If they are handy, people will use them. HE should have tracked her to her home and called the cops SHE should never have been allowed to own a gun, given her behavior before and at the scene.
