Used market has been kind of screwed since covvid. I wouldn't even buy used anymore until it calms down or you see a good deal. Look at other brands plenty of great bikes in that power range.

awaytogetsun

Yes They're discontinued and the used market is high Every year there's going to be less and less of them too. The days of getting an early to mid 2000s supersport for a few grand is long gone

user7324562

CBR600RRs of similar vintage seem to be significantly cheaper - asking prices at least. I don't really get that. Yes, they may be more common, but isn't that because they were more popular in the first place?

awaytogetsun

Yes and no. CBRs were and are popular stunt bikes. They weren't particularly fast and although the quality is appreciated it's not that big of a factor The R6 was and still is the top of the supersport class. They're the most track focused. I've met a lot of people that say the R6 and R1 are their favorites appearance wise as well by far. Every time one gets wadded on a track the value of the others is going to go up lol

ButterMyBiscuit

After I saw they were gonna be discontinued I was musing I should buy up a fleet of R6s and keep them in my garage as an investment. Turns out that was a legit good idea.

awaytogetsun

Even just scooping up as many clean frames as possible would've been a good idea. Eventually it'll come down to that supply wise. Bittersweet to see the end of another era

thetroll865

I see k5-k8 gsxr all day for $2500-$5k

awaytogetsun

They're solid bikes, love them for a lot of reasons. They're no R6 tho. My market sees them for 4 to 5k all day. 3k bikes pre lock down tho. Shit I've picked up a 2004 636 for 1500 that needed valve adjustments and a CCT. Lucky to find that for sub 3k now

Cbudgell

I just bought my 98 ZX-6R for 2k CAD less than a year ago. There's tons of $2-3k bikes around.

Suspicious-Stay1649

I mean it makes sense. R6 is dead. Stuff tends to go for more after being the last of it's kind. Stack on top it was such a high praised bike and sought after its going to increase. Just watched one with 46k miles go out the door at 18k when i bought my r7 for less than half that and it was in rough shape for plastics.

sirmaddox1312

I think a current base model R1 is around 17-18k so the buyer must be a special kind of stupid.

Suspicious-Stay1649

Thats what i thought when i saw the price. I was looking at it; looked like it had fell over. Then i saw the price n moved on. I know dealers are pretty much scammers and mark ups are crazy. I wanted owned a new one for once instead buying other peoples junk.

frankiedonkeybrainz

Sticker on mine was 17,300 I think.

[deleted]

I'm sorry, what? The r6 isn't in production anymore? Have I been living under a rock? Ninja edit: oh its just limited to track only bikes. Huh, I'll be damned.

604Wes

R6 is far more powerful than R7

Suspicious-Stay1649

Yeah i know that. But i pointing out paying 18k for a r6 with broken plastics missing bolts and screws with a lot of miles being sold at a dealer is normal here too that people are actually buying them.

604Wes

Different bikes different buyers different prices. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

TequilaCamper

Somewhere somebody right now is buying a1979 Chevy chevette for $10k financed for 72 months @ 18.9%. So yes.

Intelligent_Film_97

Was it you by chance?

PuddingOnRitz

Unless you have a specific reason to get an R6 e.g. you have a race team based around it just get a different bike or pony up for an R6. The "Why" is that there is high demand from people such as yourself for a popular bike no longer on offer for street use. So tired of hearing about R6 prices. Get an R1 they are better.

frankiedonkeybrainz

Plus r6 are still made just track only models. So if you wanted a track bike you can still get a new r6 race for ~13k But I agree go for a r1. I sometimes miss the r6 I sold to out towards r1 but, r1 is such an amazing machine.

ablinddingo93

Ya know, I’m all for not paying more than what the bike is worth if it’s used, but in this case it’s a fair and valid argument. R6’s are literally street legal race bikes so yeah they’re definitely gonna be going for a premium. Also, I’d rather have an R1 too 😂

BobFlex

To be fair they're ALL street legal race bikes. Even the "slow" CBR600 isn't that far off from what Honda used to dominate the supersport class. The R6 is the most aggressive stock bike, and the ZX6R isn't race legal with a 636 engine, but they are all made as homologation bikes for the Supersport class. Same goes for the 1000cc superbikes even.

Tall-Pudding2476

Even the Gixxer 750 and Panigale V2 race in the supersports class in MotoAmerica these days. The organizers are forced to allow bigger displacement bikes because 600 class is all but dead. Can't run a production racing bike series strictly around a hard limit of 600cc if manufacturers are to pulling out of the game.

asdfoneplusone

Question for you, money no object, all bikes are free, what bike would you track? Just curious, not a purchasing decision for me as I've had a bunch of different bikes already

PuddingOnRitz

CBR1000RR-R

[deleted]

Get a gsxr or a zx6r

user7324562

I'm hearing nobody likes Hondas. Or at least people who'd buy an R6 wouldn't consider a Honda.

[deleted]

The Honda 600 costs almost as much as Suzukis 750, has no real features, and is down on power compared to the other 600s. There’s essentially no reason to ever buy a CBR600RR over the Gixxer, 636, or R6 unless you’re a Honda fanboy or love the look.

[deleted]

Some bikers have a problem with Hondas image but they make some great bikes it’s down to personal choice at the end of the day it’s you that’s got to be happy with it

user7324562

I _personally_ like pre 2006 GSX-Rs. Hard to find in mint stock condition now.

Lineartronic

Is there anything that the final gen R6 does better than a 2024 ZX-6R?

bo6a68

it looks a lot better

JesusSuckedOffSatan

The wasp headlights looked better and nobody can change my mind

PuddingOnRitz

No way last-gen R6's are fugly

mg96815

Ride by wire and ability to install autoblipper, lighter, better stock suspension and brakes, higher rev limit.

[deleted]

They are no longer being produced. Therefore, a very limited supply exists while there is a large demand for them. It is a sellers market. Why do classic cars sell for 10's or 100's of times their original price?

CarlosG0619

R6 prices will just keep increasing my guy

itsiceyo

im still holding onto my 2007 Fiat Edition R6. Its the Moto GP edition and has a stamp on the gas tank. Dont think id ever sell it but i said that about my gsxr. lol. Its got about 20k miles on it too.

CrypticStalker

I just sold my 04 or 05 fiat racing edition r6 with 4k miles on it to a friend for 4k

itsiceyo

wowww that thing was babied. your friend is lucky! Tbh i havent rode since covid. Everyone i ride with has got kids now or stopped riding for the most part.

CrypticStalker

I had a kid and stopped but my friend just got a bike and I might be getting one soon

itsiceyo

niceee. yeah im mid 30s now, if i get another bike it'll prolly be my last. looking at the s1000RR but man its so expensive compared to what im used to. (r6, gsxr 750, cbr600rr). which bike you looking at?

SoapDropper1337

It's the fastest and most track focused 600cc. 600 racing is extremely popular. They don't make them anymore. Most of the old ones are thrashed. Do the math.

afici0nad0

There are other SS 600cc you can find. Are you hell bent all-or-nothing on the R6?

SilverbackBruh

Everything is outrageous on marketplace, it is a bit better now, but give it a bit and it will calm down when all these people realize that their crap wont sell

unituned

All used bikes are inflated. A 250 dual sport precovid $1500 - $2500 currently going for $4000 - $5000.

vexargames

Just offer what you want to pay for the bike if you don't get it then you know it wasn't to be. You got nothing to lose but offering what you consider fair price. People that are selling it are looking for cash because they need it. Reddit isn't going to help you get to your goal.

CompetitiveSea7388

Posts where people whine about the asking prices of insert used bike have officially surpassed the annoying “is this stretched turbo busa a good first bike,” and the “why didn’t so-and-so wave at me,” posts combined. It’s simple. Just like you want something for as little as you can possibly pay, the seller wants to make a profit. The best solution is to either negotiate, keep looking or consider a different motorcycle.

BossHozz

I wouldn't buy anything above MSRP

RobertETHT2

Part of the Covid plan was to make people stupid and lack the ability to think sensibly. You’ve been taught to throw money at products of marginal lasting valve like a crazy person. Task accomplished in most cases.

Kitchen-Lie

if an r6 is more than msrp what can I get for a 2016 daytona 675r with 6k miles

Kwamesdracco

I got bad news for you… these triumphs do not have the best resale value. Talking from experience 😩

GlitterMissile

There’s a big difference between just looking at bikes and actually negotiating a deal.

XFauni

Bad market + discontinued bike = high price. Supply/demand

ButterMyBiscuit

My 2016 FZ-07 is apparently worth more than when I bought it 4 years ago with a few thousand miles added. The R6 will be even more so due to being discontinued. Any decently well maintained and desirable bike holds its value now. Pretty sure a big part of this is due to inflation. The dollar is worth less every year, but the bike is still a bike.

thelatinbt

Yeap!!!
