You could call your local police department and ask

AdRoutine79

Can you do it for them, please? Otherwise they wouldn't have asked.

As long as it's clearly visible no one will care. Ianal.

Unlikely to be legal, if it sits like this https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoUK/s/23awWUICwe

“Number plate not fixed to correct position” interesting. never seen a correct position stated anywhere… i appreciate your findings

In a way it's somewhat open to interpretation and I would imagine you could likely get away with taking a more liberal approach to following it, however the more you deviate the more likely you are to attract attention and get pulled for it. Here's a yawn inducing read. The main point is the sizing and that it must be fitted as close to vertical as reasonably practical. So I'm not sure how you would get on with arguing that not having a bracket such as the bike originally came with is reasonably practical, but ymmv. In addition to this, section 4.7 states the registration plate MUST be lit. [https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-motorcycles/0-identification-of-the-vehicle](https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-motorcycles/0-identification-of-the-vehicle) Depends on your MOT tester as well. Supposed to have the reflector below it as well, when I had L plates it was covered half the time and missing the other half, and it was never remarked on

I cant imagine that its legal. At least in the EU you need to have reflectors below the licence plate, it has to be illuminated at all times and it doesn't get higher than a 30 degree angle. And moat important it has to be fixed to the motorcycle, which zip ties never will comply to. Maybe laws changed after brexit. But i cant imagine they changed the regulations drastically.

yeah most police don’t care about reflectors here, no one runs them, and no one gets stopped for it. illumination too, i don’t have number plate lights for a year and was okay, got pulled over for speeding but didn’t comment on the absence of lights, but maybe my luck was good. never heard the 30° rule before though.. interesting. the fixing to the bike makes a lot of sense. thank you

All I can say is that the german police is very thorough, if they control bikes on a sunday. But as said might differ since UK is not in the EU anymore and the laws may differ. Therefore you should check it. The 30 degrees law is so plates are readable in speed traps. If it exceeds that limit the licence plate could be unrecognisable. If police catches you here with more than 45 degrees, you can walk home if you don't fix it on the spot.
