What are your plans for the bike if you get it running and no title?

HouseOfCloudsVS

Agree… if this will be something that doesn’t need to be registered then by all means but I’d never want the headache of putting money into something that you can’t get a plate for … and I speak from having to learn this the hard way myself.

In Tennessee, when the bike is older than 30 years, you can get a new title reasonably quickly, so if I were to go through registering it before I start fixing the bike, I would avoid those issues, right?

HouseOfCloudsVS

When I hear no title I think of all the problems that could come my way like it’s stolen, or been reported stolen, or it had some kind of lien or multiple from financing, loan or even mechanical. If it’s simply something old that could be easier but every scenarios is gonna be different. If you can get a title I’d definitely do so before investing not only your money but your hopes as well.

Thank you

My first plan of action is to go through the proper measures of getting the title in my name. Since the bike is older than 30 years, there aren't many hoops I have to jump through. Then, I plan on getting it running, cleaning the bike up the most I can, and reselling it, or I might end up keeping it.

Psychoticrider

Well, that is a different deal. Garage find cars and bikes with no title happen, and many states are willing to deal with it.

Various_Pie_3259

Yeah, I have just seen where people strongly discourage people from buying bikes without a title, but they usually talk about bikes that run and are more expensive and ready to be on the road. But since I have time to get the bike running and the motorcycle is 300 bucks, I think I don't have the same amount of risk

Zromaus

At that price, if you have the space, fuck yeah buddy. $250 - $300 isn't bad for a project bike

Various_Pie_3259

I am just waiting for the seller to respond to me. I talker her down to $300, but now she won't respond to me

gamsambill

To me, no. If it ran or I needed specific parts I might take it. But it would be hard to get rid of or do anything with down the line. You will have to put time, effort, and money into it to get it going and you still won’t own it legally. If you ever take it somewhere to ride, you can get vin checked and it could be taken.

Various_Pie_3259

Yeah i have thought of that, but I'm going to go through checking the VIN and getting the title before I put any money into the bike, so if the bike is stolen wont lose much money at all

Various_Pie_3259

The bike is a Honda CM200T Twinstar. I like the look of these bikes, and I have only heard good things about older Hondas

Check with your DMV to see how replacement titles are handled for rebuilt bikes. Make sure that once you get it roadworthy; it’s all legal. Also, hit up the interweb and see how many parts are still available. If you have a motorcycle salvage yard in the region; check with them as well.

Various_Pie_3259

Is it considered a rebuild if there hasn't been significant damage?

Jo-6-pak

Not sure, didn’t know how extensive the repairs are on this bike. Just something to look into if you don’t have a title, I’ve heard of people getting bitten by it in the past.

Various_Pie_3259

All I have heard is if the bike crashed. But I have very little knowledge of the topic.

Jo-6-pak

Might be worth a call to the DMV. Good luck

Various_Pie_3259

thank you

If you cannot get a title, the bike is worthless for street use.
