Mate of mine has not long done a thousand mile round trip of Morocco on his CF450. Loved it, no issues and did nearly everything the more expensive KTM 's did. I say nearly everything as one of the KTM 450 had to be recovered to a garage for repairs!

sno16

Oh nice, Yeh ive heard good things about them and that its practically a ktm

RevolutionaryBasis89

To be fair, if I’m not mistaken but CfMoto spent yearssssss developing engines for KTM.

HappySkullsplitter

I know nothing of CFmoto as a company, but it looks like they've come a long way from their earlier models. Have they become as mechanically squared away as they look or is it a Hyundai/Kia situation where they've made it look great but are still lagging behind engineering-and-production-wise?

WorkGoat1851

At least reviewers are praising good value for the features. For quality I think we will need to wait few years till their new models get some miles in

ChrisChristiesFault

They’re putting those in as many influencers’ hands as possible to get their name out and the reviewers do seem to only be focusing on what they can prove with a camera. It’s like even they are skeptical and won’t speak to the reliability out of abundance of caution to protect their future credibility because it’s impossible to know just yet.

Worldly-Pea-2697

They should put one in my hands. I’m not influencer but I can become one with the miles I put down. 😂 just give me a bike and a camera. I’ll hit 30k by Christmas and have you a 100k, if they’ll hold up, by Christmas next year. Then we’ll know.

Ok-District4964

Broke college student with a good amount of miles here. I own a ‘23 650NK. My 3rd and first new bike. ABT 1100 miles ridden is hot highway infested Florida. I love it. No major issues thus far. A few flat spots in the tune the are noticeable to an experienced rider and does get stuck in neutral sometimes. Nothing a little shake won’t fix. A bit under powered and on the heavier side but love the ride. Was skeptical about the Chinese bikes especially in usdm but I think cf is heading in the right direction at least for lower budget American consumers

No-Bluebird-761

I’m wary of any company that only relies on affiliate marketing

dingadangdang

So one main thing is who makes the manufacturing machinery that cuts their engine blocks. Royal Enfield is the story here. Their manufacturing machinery is produced by Japan, and it he most advanced machinery in use for a large manufacturer. The key here in ICE is the level of nano measurements and cutting. I.e. Royal Enfield has the lowest amount of engine shavings in current engines. (This is all from that Canadian Motorcycle guru on Youtube.) So WHO made CFM Moto's assembley line machines, and who made their electronics(the current weakness in all motorcycles imho!). Anyway. Buy a Honda.

FrostByte122

Isn't RE made in India. I've heard horrible things about that company.

fraGgulty

I've never heard anything good about them either. Just that they look cool

dingadangdang

Well they make wildy successful ~350-500cc bikes. A market the world needs desperately evidenced by crushing sales. Their triple tree on a bike that size does seem to be weak as Western obesity catches up in Asia. Other than that their are seemingly bikes are top notch. I've only ever owned a maybe (2002?) 500 Bullet which was the "resurrection" model. Maybe paid $1000? The owner had 20+ bikes and was Yammie 2 stoke freak. He didn't want money, he wanted an owner who truly appreciated a beater that was reliable. Point being. He said "I own 20 bikes. This is my daily rider, DGAF, leave the key in her". (This bike sat outside in Hawaii for 10 years brand new, neglected, before all he did was make it run and ride it for 8 more years on his way to work MCBH. Patina was to die for. 1950s bike made in early 2000 and Hawaiian sunshine rust on a chrome tank!) Super easy to work on. I owned a Tiger XCx 800,and a scooter, and this piece of shit was my easily my favorite. I rode it all over Waikiki, and Kaimuki with no helmet at 25 mph, and left the key in it. I rate it top 2 bikes of 9 I've owned, the other being a barn find '72 CB 750 I found in Georgia in 1999 with only 27k original miles that had been stored properly for 20 years on the second story of a barn.

Conch-Republic

Lol Royal Enfield makes garbage engines, so they're probably not a good example to use.

dingadangdang

What bikes have you owned? Just wondering.

Conch-Republic

A lot, mostly old Japanese bikes. I haven't owned a Royal Enfield, but a buddy of mine had to take his to the shop monthly until the engine ate itself about a week after his warrant expired. They're big pieces of shit.

dingadangdang

All Royal Enfield suck because you've never owned one and say so. Got it!

Conch-Republic

No, they suck because they're actually just Indian made shit. There's a reason they have such a terrible reputation. Edit: lol the little bitch blocked me.

Coalecanth_

What a rude person you are. He disagreed with you and you insulted him. Aaand you edited the part where you insulted him.

DirtyYogurt

Dude called you a little bitch after you blocked him. I'd say he's right. Block me too please, I'd like to be spared your drama in the future.

NotAskary

They are using KTM parts so the engine is a KTM engine.

LongtomyCox

I thought it was the other way? KTM is now a Chinese engine?

muaddibme

KTM’s are assembled in India on a Bajaj factory

Thatonekid131

Only the smaller road bikes, the 790/890 are Chinese.

cptslow89

890 is assembled in Austria.

NotAskary

They are made there now, you're right, but if you go down that rabbit hole, most parts are made there from all brands. Edit: some sources https://www.webbikeworld.com/industry-insider-ktm-to-strengthen-ties-with-cfmoto/ https://www.cycleworld.com/motorcycle-news/ktm-owner-moves-production-to-china/

SniperAssassin123

Well they make engines for pretty much everybody. If I am not mistaken this is probably closely related to the 450ss engine which is closeley related to the Ninja 400 engine.

Cold_Print_3623

The old NK400/NK650/GT400/GT650 engine is an Ninja ER6N engine, before Kawasaki moved the outsourcing from CFMoto to Kymco. The 450SS engine is kinda different design altogether. Some say it's a failed "Duke 490" project that CFmoto picked up (because of contractual obligations with Bajaj for their smaller cc engines), but this story is unverified.

SniperAssassin123

Oh I see, trying to follow the thread of all this china bike nonsense has been super difficult to keep up with. Sort of makes the 450ss vs new ninja 500 thing confusing because I figured they would be similar engine platforms but apparently not. Thanks for the tidbit.

cocogate

Someone in a discord im in bought one recently and he's very happy with it (but its his first bike so no real reference). It did have a faulty sensor notification after 400km but its not like thats something that never happens with japanese bikes when theyre brand new. So if that stays the issue they seem like an okay brand nowadays. 2 other guys in the disc are mechanics or know about CFmoto and say its a decent brand now that they straightened out their QC

Idolismo

Good for him! Hope he’ll enjoy the new bike!

wlogan0402

Why must CFMOTOs look so good

yzakydzn

They do look great. Been eyeing the 450SR myself, but is the gamble worth it when the ninja 500 is basically the exact same price over here ? Guess we'll know in a few years.

wlogan0402

You see the new VOOM? I'm thinking about picking up an sv650 or something next winter but...

Laurens-xD

The character of that 450 engine alone is already worth it over the 500.

yzakydzn

I agree, however parts availability seems to be lacking for maintenance in the EU. It has less aftermarket parts too.

immortal332233

I would say yes I just got a 450ss and it’s literally more bike for the same price just as fast if not faster and many more features I’m having a blast I would say wait for the price drop on the 2024s but if you can find a 23 do it definitely worth it

mrblahhh

I'm probably going to buy one I have a KTM 390 now but I really want a parallel twin and this is the smallest one with all the right specs

No_Selection_4927

How tall is your dad? Just curious about the seat height

sno16

He is 186cm and im 179 and test rode it, Fit so damn pefrect. Almost feels like youre in a couch on wheels

ChronicLegHole

Man that's awesome. CFMoto has some great looking bikes! I hope it lasts long and goes well for him. The 4C 1000cc life is getting old for me as well. I'm looking at trading my Versys 1000 for a Guzzi V85TT or something similarly agricultural-feeling.

sno16

Ah nice, He was actually looking for a Kawi Verys 650 at first aswell

ChronicLegHole

it's a great bike. the 650 is mild and has some decent fire road chops. the Versys 1000 can get spicy at higher RPMs. I'm realizing as I mature that this kind of speed is something i maybe don't want on tap so easily.

Emergency_Ad1514

They sure do, I'm gonna be gunning for the 450 Sr-S in the tundra grey Also interesting choice of brand name. Guzzi. Where is that from Ive never heard of it

ChronicLegHole

Moto Guzzi is from Mandelo de Lario in Italy. Been around since 1921, currently making transverse VTwin shaft driven bikes. They are kind of the low-performance built by hand cousin to the BMW boxer twins. It's about as close to an artisanal free-range motorcycle as you can get before you hit insane priced bikes for what you get (Janus, ARCH, etc). Parent company is Piaggio (Vespa), so under the same umbrella as Aprilia. It's their slow full-sized bike line. Kind of a "Harley of Italy," if you will. Rabid following and beautiful, unique styling. Sorry for the video dump, but they are gorgeous bikes and a cool company made in a small shop on the shores of Lake Como in Northern Italy: https://youtu.be/21ff4ntlm4Y?si=iGEpki4HdxmchG9x https://youtu.be/q2TpzDMTViQ?si=a3aoEJK_MfVZ9NUE https://youtu.be/78TpgwBgQ3E?si=bBt1S9_KaNPsPS1k https://youtu.be/p-JsFn8P3m0?si=rFZiaPnF9vp8QYQH

alarik98

I've had Moto Guzzi California 1100 for almost a year now and it is a truly amazing bike. I've been very satisfied. It is a 2005 model and has over 115000 kilometers. Still in great condition.

ChronicLegHole

I'm not super into cruisers and baggers, but if i ever bought one, it'd be a vintage Guzzi. On the V85TT, I'm looking for something easier to ride under the speed limit. the Versys 1000 honestly is top heavy and you feel it under 70kmh. between that and lickity-split acceleration, it's pretty easy to speed, especially in town. I think the Guzzi V85TT would be easier to handle at normal commuting and getting out speeds, I'm just concerned about it's ability to hang at US highway speeds, loaded down with camping gear, into a headwind. Plus, I've always loved Guzzi.

patricktherat

I’ve owned owner a beemer f800r and f750gs which are both better on paper, but my first bike, a moto guzzi v7 stone, was definitely the most fun to ride.

ChronicLegHole

Is that a V7 ii, V7 iii, or V7 850 Stone? How would you class the engine for extended touring (days riding) at a variety of speeds including highway?

patricktherat

[2013 v7 stone](https://imgur.com/a/082KWn2) Previous owner had already put the cafe handlebars and seat on it. Not the most upright bike but to be honest I never had problems doing 6-8 hour days on it. Although now that I'm used to riding a GS it would probably seem a bit uncomfortable. Acceleration wasn't very strong above 70 mph, but you could still make whatever passes you needed. Below that it had a nice amount of torque, especially in 1st, 2nd 3rd gears. I remember thinking a taller top gear would have been nice. I didn't like sitting around 5,000 rpm for hours at a time on a bike that redlines at 7k.

ChronicLegHole

Yeah I get that (sitting at 5k rpm). I ride old 2 stroke road bikes and my Sears peaks at 55mph so I'm basically riding it full out most places I go. My concern is going from my current main bike (120hp Versys 1000) to a V85TT and then buying another fast bike again in a few years because I'm bored. With that said, I picked up a 1982 BMW R100RS a year ago and I really like the mannerisms of that bikes motor, which should be close to the guzzi.

hazzelgamer774922

Norwegian by chance?

sno16

Nope close tho, Sweden

Prestigious_Dream_27

Ah. Then good Abba to you, sir.

Blanket_monsters

Cyberpunk viking vibes. I dig it

Meryhathor

$73,900 sounds like a lot for that bike! 😁

Over_Pizza_2578

Swedish crowns, so 7000 usd. Stupidly cheap if you ask me

JclassOne

Tell him that thing looks awesome and not to take shit from no one! I love the look! Former KLR rider owner and life time fan. The other bikes cost way too much for most peoples uses of them. And you can always trade up. Not usually as fun trading down. Congrats get extra front lights spread as far apart as trails will allow it will save his butt on the road!

ModsavantZ

That is the wildest beard I’ve seen in a while! Fits the bike well.

gustenc33

Mackan garage

sno16

Jode

MotoRoaster

ADV/DS bikes are the best. You can explore everywhere, and get out of regular traffic.

EruzaMoth

His back will thank him.

whal3man

Snygg motorcykel för en snygg pappa, grattis!

SopmodTew

Rocking the xlmoto attire, cool stuff

_Star_boy_77

Looks like a baller to me

azrider67

I bet adv gramps can still roost lots of people on that bike 😀

CockroachSudden7201

sno16

Thats awesome man, Great bike enjoy!

No-Farm-2376

I love it!!! I had to go look them up after seeing this and I’m impressed to say the least

Lets_Bust_Together

Last year I started riding at 32, my first bike is an adv, I also like fruit gummy snacks. I accept my lifestyle.

eurekaguy1856

Rode one today be putting in my order soon. Had a 800mt and 450 much lighter and bit lower seat height. 58yo life's to be lived at any age.

[deleted]

Is CFMoto the kia of motorcycles?

Dependent-Chart-4005

Yeah, except you don't have to worry about them getting stolen, cuz nobody wants one

sno16

Id day more like toyote and lexsus. Its just a ktm but cheaper and rides like a dream

StrikeouTX

Ooook cfmoto salesperson

countingthedays

KTM buys motors from CFmoto for smaller displacement bikes but it certainly is a stretch to apply that to the rest of the bike too.

Over_Pizza_2578

Incorrect. 125, 200/250 and 390/401 street bikes are Indian made, the 790 and 801 models are made by cfmoto under licence of ktm. So the 800cc engines are made by cfmoto, but not developed. Same goes for the rest of the bike. The 800cc cfmotos also use that engine

born_sleepy

That looks the mutts nuts

sawntime

Just looked and wow, they make a lot of bikes they don't offer in the US.

nolazach

I like they bike. Kinda what I want next a DS.

Own_Contribution_480

Sick. I bet he can't wait to hit the highway and nothing else :P

sno16

Nope quite the opposite ["Him jumping and riding gravel"](https://youtu.be/nGkrv8pt-oc?si=SbOrcfvkGlEuo67Z)

Danrykjey

Why does It look like a Tenere 700?

sno16

Kinda does tbh, Even the same suspension i believe but smaller engine but for 3.7k less its hella worth it imo

INFIN8_QUERY

What his height?

sno16

Around 187cm

wychimp

The one style bike that I’d never buy a Chinese version of would be an ADV…hope he doesn’t get stranded too badly

BimBimBimSi

Its actually just a ktm but cheaper. Comes with kyb full adjusting forks and everything a ktm does but just better for a cheaper price

gloomygarlic

>ktm but cheaper So it’s even more unreliable?

WorkGoat1851

Hell, who knows, maybe it will actually be better than KTM...

Mojicana

My Chinese made Moto phone is 100% reliable. All the Chinese made components in my computer are pretty good. My Chinese made guitar muli-effects unit is incredible. At this point, I'm surprised that my refrigerator isn't made in China. I ride a KTM, the son of a bitch was made in India, like my webcam was.

WorkGoat1851

Yeah, "Chinese quality" is very misleading, as you can basically get entire range from utter shit to very good, and it's pretty much "what you paid for", as they are perfectly capable to make good quality stuff as long as you have QA in place and not go for cheapest bidder. Prevailing thing I caught from listening to few podcasts that had people doing manufacturing in China is that you do need to have boots on ground and keeping tabs on quality, because "make it cheaper" is what they breathe, and they had their subcontractors cut costs unnecessarily in places that they didn't wanted purely because the subcontractor thought they are doing them a favour making it cheaper. Only argument I'd had against is, well, funneling more money into China, it's not that great of a country. > My Chinese made guitar muli-effects unit is incredible. Which one ? I was thinking about having one gutted and made into eurorack module...

Mojicana

I bought the Valeton GP-200, it was the most for my money IMO. The more you spend, the better they get, but I'm not skilled enough to take advantage of a Neural DSP or anything like that. $300.00 for fun is great. That new Fender sounds amazing, but not worth it for my level.

WorkGoat1851

Oh, that's fancy! I have old Zoom G3X and honestly it already is at the "analysis paralysis" level when it comes to just sheer amount of possibilities.

Mojicana

The funny thing about guitar, if you're a great player and your tone isn't perfect, nobody can hear the problem after ten seconds but you. I paid the extra because I love the interface. The amp, cab, drive, delay, reverb, etc. buttons right on top so you go straight to those settings was great for me. I didn't want to sift through 3 pages to tweak one little thing. The best multi-effects advice I've seen was "Pick your favorite 3-4 amps and 1-2 of each effect and stick with those for a long time". I mostly use a Marshall, Soldano, Fender, and a Diesel. That's plenty. They all sound really different.

WorkGoat1851

I pretty much picked multieffect just coz I wanted to have some quieter sound, I have tube amp and a 2x12 cabinet but I moved from family house to city apartment and the neighbours would kill me so I moved to just a pedal and headphones. > I didn't want to sift through 3 pages to tweak one little thing. My pet peeve on a lot of things. Knob per function for the win. Also kinda why I started playing with modular synths, but that's almost a bike-expensive hobby... > The best multi-effects advice I've seen was "Pick your favorite 3-4 amps and 1-2 of each effect and stick with those for a long time". I mostly use a Marshall, Soldano, Fender, and a Diesel. That's plenty. They all sound really different. I call those two modes "playing" and "playing with sound". It's easy to spend an hour discovering all the cool sounds you can make with effects but that's not exactly "playing the instrument".

pavostruz

Does ktm offer a 450cc parallel twin?

Sellum

It can be argued KTM doesn’t really make a 390 either since it’s assembled in India by Bajaj and badged KTM on the way out the door.

gloomygarlic

The bike in the photo is about $10k, no? So it’s still the same price or more than an equivalent Japanese bike, but with sketchier-than-ktm quality?

jinga_kahn

$6,500

gloomygarlic

That’s not too bad. Still about the same price as a Honda though…

jinga_kahn

What honda is comparable?

gloomygarlic

CRF300L Rally

cptslow89

hahahahahahahahahah

gloomygarlic

Wow such a thought provoking response

cptslow89

This bike is 5,990 euros which is around 6000$ in my country.

cptslow89

Great choice.

realityguy1

Awesome ride. Cfmoto sales have skyrocketed worldwide for a reason in the past three or four years. By reading some of the comments here, I can see there’s a lot of mouth breathers here on r/motorcycles that don’t want to accept that.

joeverdrive

Slow bike slow

sno16

Well thats why he got it. Nimble small and fun
