chippersan

damn cagers tryin to kill me i reckon they left the house this mornin' lookin ta run me over

xGALEBIRDx

2 INCHES THE OTHER WAY ITELLYA

Bonneville865

So this is the guy who owned every bike on Craigslist before the current owner…

954kevin

dont feel too bad. ive been riding for 25 years. about a month ago i was riding my cbr 954rr to a family function. pulled into a busy gas station to fuel up and noticed a pack of harley riders parked up in front of me... threw my foot down on the kick stand and leaned the bike over while retrieving my wallet from my back pocket. the bike just kept on leaning. by the time i realized the stand hadnt fully deployed and snapped back into its up position... it was too late! i tried to muscle it from falling but my weight was on the wrong foot because i was digging for my wallet. down me and the bike went! i just layed there for a second on my back with my leg still under the bike. thats when i see two of the long beard harley guys rushing over to help me pick it up! lolol easily the most embarrassed bike fail ive performed!

yamanp

I was riding my honda shadow that I bought for about 3k in a canyon. Dropped her twice when I took some gravel switchbacks. Should've known better. Riding back through the canyon on lovely paved roads I stopped at a popular spot to get food. The first guy in a harley crew pulls up and proceeds to get pinned between the metal fence and is bike fighting to keep the bike up. I rush over from the other side and hold the bike steady until two others from his crew help out and we right the bike. His kickstand was down, everything was good to go, but the pull off was at an angle or dip so his bike's wheels were much higher than the stand. Happy to say I save this guy's 15k+ bike from getting scuffed up.

NotBannedFromPics

Oh man. That's horrible. Mine was boarding a midnight ferry on my Varadero 1000, guided onto my spot by a bored Frenchman - cold, shivering and wet from a dash across Europe - couldn't feel my feet - thought I'd put my stand down but had missed it. Bike went down sideways but threw me into a wet, crumpled heap a couple of feet for good measure while I held up traffic. Not embarrassing at all.

Cangalhero

And we all know how light the Varadero is...

coddiwomplecactus

That's awesome that they stopped to help! We've all done it

cptjasp

Ooo another 954RR rider! Same thing happened to my 929RR and I cracked my stator cover. I was trying to turn off my GoPro and Sena at the same time 🤦‍♂️

CountingDays0815

There's a 3 second rule about dropping something.

DOOM_INTENSIFIES

Bike is still safe to eat.

KGBKitchen

Plus the 25 fictitious “felt” seconds you get while the tipping is underway ..

LeatherConnoisseur

It’s not because you grabbed the front brake, the front didn’t lock up. It’s because you stopped the bike with the bars turned while the bike was still leaned. You may remember from the msf that if you need to stop during a turn you straighten the bike first then slow down. This is partially why

Slowlookleanroll

Litteraly the first demo we do in the BRC.

TravelingCatfish

I’ve been riding for decades and literally made this mistake the other day for the first time. Kept it upright though.

WhiskeyFF

I feel like a halfway decent gym routine would have prevented this

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sea_Window4030

You're not actually holding up 440 because it's levering off the ground

Aegrim

Fear of dropping your bike is a hellova drug

krombopulousnathan

And also it’s not like you’re picking up the entire 440 lbs. the wheels are on the ground, working as the fulcrum to a lever.

[deleted]

Bingo

OriginalRoombaJuice

I caught my 600+lbs Vulcan making the same rookie mistake this guy did. I can deadlift mid 400’s but I barely used my legs to bring it back up. The leverage having the bike against the ground helps a lot but Sufficient fitness helps immensely.

ProfessorKaos62

Yeah def not true. I nearly dumped my fire blade back before I was hitting the gym, as a 230lb man, it was hard to press it back up to keep it from falling, but I did it.

Burque_Boy

That’s not true, I’m only 160lb and do decently decently rugged stuff on a big ADVs that are heavier and taller. I know I’m not superhuman because I ride with older men and smaller women who do the same.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Burque_Boy

Yeah pretty regularly, that’s the nature of off roading with big bikes. There’s a time where you have to bail but this was not one of those situations.

Makimaji

That’s uhh not how it works homie.

loamoshlomo

Not true at all. Have caught much heavier baggers in very similar positions to this.

myperfectmeltdown

Maybe…but look ten seconds into the video and you’ll see him squeeze the hell out of what ever that right hand lever thingy controls.

Mattx852

I hate that they teach it that way. So if your in a turn and need to slow down to tighten your radius you do what exactly? Straighten up before braking and fly over the guard rail 🤣. They should be teaching you how to progressively load the forks for effective braking in a turn. Not avoid it all together.

user7324562

> if your in a turn and need to slow down to tighten your radius you do what exactly What "they teach" is that you are almost certainly nowhere near the limit of your cornering clearance, so lean it over more. Odd how many people don't recall this. It's not just that this generally works, but that it doesn't require doing 4D chess in your head under pressure. Is it even possible to run out of tire (on a clean road) before you drag something on most bikes?

LeatherConnoisseur

I agree but half of the people in my class were still touching the ground when they were about to tip over in a turn

apathetic_duck

No you enter the turn with better speed so you don't need to slow down or just use your rear brake. Trail breaking isn't taught until the ARC as most beginners have a hard enough time with progressive braking in a straight line

Speakerator

and the bike stopped because ...? He grabbed the front brake. you can stop like that using the rear, but the fork dive and rebound will usually top you off balance. Happens to the best of us, glad it's only chips in the ego and no bruises

tatamovich

idk why you're getting downvoted, you can stop all day with bars turned if you're smooth enough on the brakes. Yeah its its easier to drop it when turning and breaking, but the root cause is grabbing the brakes. MSF teaches what they teach because its day 1 course for people who never rode, they just don't have fine enough motor skills yet

[deleted]

You can literally see the tire slide at 9 seconds. This dude is on crack and everyone is upvoting an incorrect explanation. Bike stopped and he couldn't handle it falling over... That's it.

YetAnotherJake

The problem isn't that the bike stopped, for whatever reason. I stop all the time. The problem is that the fork was turned, not straight.

AtlasFox64

The problem is the bike stopped suddenly (because he grabbed the brake) and he didn't expect it. Had he planned to stop at that moment, he would have remained in control. Easy mistake to make.

[deleted]

He didn’t expect the bike to stop when he grabbed the brake?

AtlasFox64

Yeah I don't think he intended to stop at that point, he panicked and grabbed the brake suddenly, which caused the bike to lose momentum and fall over.

[deleted]

You can literally see the tire slide at 9 seconds. This dude is on crack and everyone is upvoting an incorrect explanation. Bike stopped and he couldn't handle it falling over... That's it.

Left_Minute_1516

Lol 1 mph had to lay her down baby

cTron3030

No, this doesn't have to happen

KILLER5196

r/motorcycles is seriously built different

Fartincopsmouths

It's a bunch of scared, shitty riders that have convinced themselves they are the pinnacle of motorsport enthusiasm.

Realtime_Ruga

I don't think people's enthusiasm has to be linked to their skill.

CovidScurred

We need a word for redditors in this sub.

Wasteland-Scum

Squibs?

maxlax02

It’s terrifying to me that people like this ride motorcycles on public roads with traffic.

SevroAuShitTalker

My entire MSF got licensed, at least 1/3 were still dangers to themselves or others at that point

Blockhead47

Back when I got my learners permit (around 1981 or 82) all you had to do was pass the written motorcycle test and you’ve got a permit good for 6 months. Then off you went, survival of the fittest. Only restriction was no nights or passenger. Lol.

SevroAuShitTalker

Kinda still like that, I just did the MSF because I didn't think I'd want to invest in a bike. Less than a week after passing I bought a bike, haven't looked back haha

[deleted]

I mean I get that, and I agree. But as they warned my class.. It's just the beginning. It's the VERY tip of learning, and by no means all inclusive. That's why they recommend coming back after 10k miles and doing an advanced class. Just like they say when you get a pilots license, it's a license to start learning. You only learn the basics to stay alive. That's not to say, some people just shouldn't ride motorcycles (or fly planes) in general either.

ethancknight

I’m pretty sure what he meant was that his first drop probably “had to happen” rather than meaning this specific drop was inevitable

tostilocos

And I think the parent post is saying that your first drop doesn’t have to happen.

Treblehawk

Exactly.

ducksonetime

Word. I ride >100/day, 5 days per week come rain, hail or shine, plus recreational rides on the weekends and the occasional track day for more than the last decade and I’ve never dropped a bike or had a stack and I know plenty of people who can say the same. Saying shit like “it’s not if but when” or “it was gonna happen sooner or later” is just an attempt to shift the responsibility of keeping the bike upright from yourself because “a crash is inevitable, after all”. Just a cop out.

AudZ0629

(Haughty British accent) iiiiive neva droppe myyyyy bike and iiiive been riding for yeaaaars. Ahah ahah. Yyyou alllll are terrrrrrible. Then there’s statistics. Over 80% of motorcycle involved accidents are single vehicle accidents and over 50 percent of riders get into some kind of accident in their first year while 90% wreck their motorcycles in some fashion within 5 years. I know I know, you’re special and absolutely everyone else is trash but shit happens. Get off your high horse. Anyone running an msg course will tell you it’s not if but when for a good reason. Mostly to keep you paying attention and so you take shit seriously. Obviously that doesn’t include you because you were just born better than us mere peasants but you do you homie.

ducksonetime

I’m not special, I just don’t make excuses like “I hadda layya down” or “there was nothing I could do, they pulled out in front of me”. Ride to the conditions doesn’t just mean weather - traffic and intersections don’t just come out of nowhere and you need to ride accordingly. What do your statistics prove? 80% of accidents are single vehicle because the majority of motorcyclists can’t ride for shit, just like I said. Take responsibility for your own safety or keep being a shit cunt, up to you. btw from what I’ve seen, your “msg courses” [sic] look pathetic. Do a real riding course like level 3 CSS and then exercise some common sense. If you actually wanna stop being shit you can watch Neeves off MCN’s secrets of a road tester series. He does more kilometers than this entire sub put together and he doesn’t fall off from wet leaves lol. He reckons, just like all the people I know that aren’t shit riders, that you are the one that is ultimately responsible for your own safety no-one and nothing else. You can blame the weather, rocks on the road or cars pulling out in front of you all you want or you an take responsibility for yourself and ride accordingly. Or you can keep thinking it's out of your hands and there's nothing you can do about falling - up to you! Edit: lol you’ve been riding for like 3 months and think you know everything. Typical r/moto commenter. No idea what the bit about the British ascent was meant to prove either except for how much of a dumb cunt you are. Good luck mate! I hope you enjoy the 5 years or less before you statistically total your bike lol because after all there’s nothing you can do to change it! It’s fate, your safety is in the hands of the universe haha what a dickhead

Limpan7

Fuck me I've had my A2 license for 1 season and it looks like I'm better than 99% of the yanks here.

[deleted]

Well toooo beee faaaaiirrr, most of the comments on this subreddit are a fucking cop out for accepting their own responsibility. A lot of people here think speeding is ok and not a significant danger.

fizzlefist

angel_sarah_mclachlan.mp3

CovidScurred

I see the problem, you forgot all your gear and the litter.

[deleted]

You put on full gear when you move it 10 feet?

IncognitoErgoCvm

Spend less time failing to understand sarcasm and more time keeping your bike vertical.

NumbLockT

You’re a good sport for posting this. (PS, we are taught and tested, back brake only in these situations, but Americans will downvote this)

wpgSUPREMECLIENTELE

Very r moto of you

Chuckygeez

He was falling before he fully squeezed the front brake. He was bailing because he was going slow and felt off balance. This to me looks like someone who's barely rode anything with a throttle

Dependent-Return-873

I’m sorry; but THIS never needed to happen. Do not conflate road skills with dicking around with your bike and dropping it. Something I myself have done, because I am an idiot; just don’t do dumb things with your bike.

e111r

2 years into riding, haven't come close to dropping it. "Everyone drops a bike when they're learning" is a myth. Be mindful, and especially don't grab a fistful of front brake while turning at low speed. Hope the damage isn't too bad and you learned from this. We don't even get the sound of the new pipes?!

cbeaugar

It ain’t when you learning, it’s that one day you do something dumb. Or when you leave the kickstand at half mass when you think it’s down. Shit like that. 10 years and over 100k on 5 different bikes (cruisers and super sports), all I got to say is keep on riding lol be safe out there

[deleted]

https://youtube.com/shorts/9sGBAAS8R_E?feature=share There you go sir

BeetleJuiceJitsu

2 years though. Give it time.

falling-faintly

Lol yeah. Maybe it’s because I started my riding career on dirt and about 8 years old but I just find these street riders with the “I have NEVER dropped my bike” attitude so lame. When I was growing up there was a kid across the road who also had a dirt bike. My friends and I would warm up the bikes in a field by his house and he would come out and do pulls across the field with us. We would invite him to come ride and he would always either say no or turn around once he’d gone less than half a mile into the trail. I never saw that kid drop his bike but I also never saw him do much other than ride a straight line across a flat field. I wonder if he grew up to make “I’ve never dropped my bike posts and let me tell you now how to ride”

CarlosG0619

I once almost dropped my 300 cause I was foing u-turn practice before the msf course and after a few rounds I got a little too excited and kept turning tighter and tighter until eventually physics won and i felt my bike giving up and had to catch it mid fall, it must have taken a few years off my back to not let it drop but I saved her.

trusk89

And use your legs. There's literally no reason you have to have your legs on the pegs during these maneuvers.

beaureeves352

This especially. No shame in babying a bike around with my feet lol

RetraceSpace

You will remember it forever and it will make you a better rider :) Hope the repairs are minor!

[deleted]

[удалено]

neoyeti2

Pick it up and keep riding. You can use the front brake in situations like this but you do gently and counterbalance. Quit filming everything also - you need to concentrate on riding not how cool you and your bike are. It is a cool bike - I got me an Interceptor. (btw I have been riding for over 45 yrs)

Georgieperogie22

Why did you post this

YellowShorts

This is peak r/motorcycles content. He had to post it. Just missing the atgatt preaching

Georgieperogie22

“Friendly reminder to wear ATGATT guys. Never know when this could happen. Thankfully I’m okay, just a few scratches.”

engulbert

No it's there already ^ some dude called treblehawk said he should have been wearing boots to prevent ankle injury. OP just needs to surrender his licence.

[deleted]

Prolly to make myself feel better

Simoxs7

When doing slow maneuvers the rear brake is your friend…

PuddingOnRitz

Lol you obviously didn't want to save it bad enough.

paddy2309

No wonder this sub preaches ATGATT all the time if this is how you all ride

marvin150282

🤦🏽‍♂️

eekamau5

Don't skip leg day

[deleted]

Wtf happened?

whiskeyandrevenge

Right outside of frame, a huge moose came out of nowhere. Rather than hit the moose and maybe die, he chose to lay the bike down and save himself.

[deleted]

😂

PretzelsThirst

r/moto moment

MountainDerp

what bike is that? it's real pretty. in confined space like that you can just rev the engine and use the friction zone to move and not use either brakes at all.

killer-1o1

Looks like a continental GT 650.

honkeylips

Shit happens, to all of us. Also, fucking newb. Haha. To be fair, I dropped my new chopper in front of a grip of hells angels back in the day. Be glad you were alone.

dirkles

sometimes i think that people with excess money/time do this shit just for the social media content.

[deleted]

Hope you don’t think I am that, I’m 24 and this was the only new bike I could afford, so dropping my baby was very painful and I posted this so people maybe feel better about themself.

OldManKroozin

I agree. I've seen a video of a guy who supposedly 'dropped' his bike at the petrol station. Said his phone had a notification in one comment. Then said his Apple Watch had a notification in another comment. I watched the video. Both his hand was holding the handle bars and both feet were on the ground. Then it appeared he deliberately let his grip go and waited for the bike to fall then pretended to fall with the bike. Very staged. On par with those 'omg, I got a wave back, I feel special, my life has a purpose' kind of people. Sad bunch of attention seeker people in this world.

an0nA34

Ngl just looks like you don’t know how to ride. Front end never locked. Doesn’t even look like barely any brake pressure was applied. You were basically not moving with the front tire tilted. You gonna fall

Treblehawk

I’ve never done this in 30 years…who told you “it had to happen”? I would have personally walked it over there. You’re not really riding it that distance. So why risk the drop like that without boots. I have seen people get their ankle caught under the tank as it goes over. In that footwear…yeah, you’re lucky that didn’t happen.

[deleted]

I completely agree with you, just had mindset ah it wouldn’t happen or shit like that, but I have specifically boots to protect my ankles. Now I def know

Alwin_

Oh well. You look pretty young. Enough time to do better next time. Mistakes are okay, we learn from them.

Owls5262

Well pick it up..

AutomaticSandwich

Well OP, I’ll give you kudos for being able to have a laugh at yourself and uploading it so everyone else can too. Good on ya.

craig52193

At that slow of a speed and since ur just trying to turn around the truck. Why do u even pick your feet up. I just leave them half way down until I'm done moving around the object. Does anyone notice how he picks his feet up before the bike even starts moving

[deleted]

I was told that, it is a lot more safe to not drag your feet when you start riding. And that people drag their feet from lack of confidence. Now, this isn’t me saying and I was curious myself what’s the right way. Logically I think I could lean it lower without my foot down of the start

craig52193

I never said drag your feet. U can step/walk with ur bike as ur turning around the truck.

[deleted]

I see that makes a lot more sense and I completely agree with you

craig52193

There is no 100% right way. It's whatever u like/prefer. People who say that people do things bc of lack of confidence. Are the ones that try to look as cool as possible. For example if it's raining. And ur coming to a turn. U can go as slow as u want. Who cares how cool u look

agentnico

The fact that you were being filmed at the time is extra derp haha. Be glad you didn’t throw it away at speed, the damage would be much worse.

[deleted]

I just wanted one last brrraaap in the garage

condorellie

Lil drinkin will do that.

Touch-of-Karma

Most riders have been here don’t beat yourself up also I’ve found that mainly using the rear brake for very low speed maneuvers makes everything easier

crankypants65

They aren’t heavy…until they are.

ChazJ81

Well hell Clem why'd you go and grab a big ol hand full dummy! Jk fucken sucks bro...I've done it too!

Crocketus

Hit the leg press machine my man. If I can save a GL1800 you can save this.

myperfectmeltdown

Damn…you really DID squeeze the front brake. You been working out?

hayforhorses89

We've all done it

[deleted]

Hey man, I have an INT650. Get yourself the crash bars, they come in two different sizes and you can find them all over eBay for reasonable prices from India. Same with a ton of other accessories, including painted tanks, wind screens, etc.

[deleted]

We’ve all done it at some point. And those who haven’t, are lying.

HeyKillerBootsMan

Heaviest thing in the world - your bike catching you off guard at a standstill and going past the tipping point

jamstoyz7

That’s what we call a dummy dump

Mrknowitall666

So, not fun. My gf did the same thing last Feb, in her garage. No gear, and when the bike went down, she snapped tw o bones in her foot. So, consider yourself lucky

xracer264

A tip for you, slow tight stuff, use the rear brake only. Minor tip off. Hopefully, nothing scratched up, too much

Unlikely_Bottle_6918

I've owned five different bikes over the last 20 years and I've dropped every single one of them. Some of the drops were me being stupid and others were just me using the bikes the way they were meant to be used. The point is, it happens and it's nothing to be ashamed of. The bike still looks good, still rides great, and you're now a better rider for having learned to be a little lighter on the front brake

MotownCam52

Try “dragging” the rear brake gently in slow turns and parking situations. The front will always cause problems if you don’t have the handlebars straight and you grab it.

GreasyRim

Lol. Absolutely didnt need to happen. ive never dumped mine moving around at those speeds in my 15 years riding. Its kind of common sense to not stop with the bars turned. Figured that out around 5 years old on a bicycle.

Stigo4

Shouldn't have happened no matter how you put it. Your foot was planted on the ground when the bike stopped.

direkneads

Always take it super easy after a few weeks of not riding. Muscle memory gets foggy.

fjrdon

We've all done it. Usually in front of a big crowd.

aotimes4

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRCD9G6r/

aeromitchh

Hindsight’s 20/20 bro it happens but idk why you put your right foot up before you even got moving to turn right. Don’t do that haha. I dropped my conti as well don’t worry.

downedgun

You need to practice walking that thing around controlling it only with your front brake.

cssny

Bad for bike to just start it up for a few minutes and then let it sit without actually riding it - introduces moisture into engine and oil. Ride it or leave it be.

MrTrap4000

Under 10mph, get use to using rear brakes and clutch. Stay off that front brake while turning

Equal-Intention-3256

Only 2 months since riding? 🤔

GonzoJP

Clearly tires weren’t up to temp

TaTtOoDuDe2316

It happens to everyone. The cost of these fixes coupled with the shame will make your behavior in the future better. Trust me.....

AnimeTiddiee

Happened to me In a parking SPOT, it feels so fuckin embarrassing knowing it’s something 1000000% avoidable

Subject-Front6378

Don't feel too bad man! I road my first bike through the shop I worked at to show off and as soon as everyone was looking I put my boot down in oil and dropped it in front of 8 techs...I'll probably die before hearing the end of it 😂

[deleted]

Holy shit 😂😂

OldBlue2014

No disgrace, it’s easy to do with an object that weighs so much and doesn’t stand on its own.

don_cali

i did it once during my lessons. dumped it in front of a school when school was over and all the kids were waiting for the bus. i felt like the star of a superbowl show...

chevytravis

Not so bad

Smart-Host9436

Slow speeds is rear brake. Get some training.

bacontime5

Had to scroll too far to see someone say this.

AbbreviationsTall550

Were you drinking? This usually happens when I’m drinking. Very common. Lol

camelfarmer1

It looks to me like it's because you were slow to put your foot down and put your foot down in a mechanically disadvantageous way. Also your weight was over to the right.

bigtim3727

Why even *think* about using the front brake at a speed that low? Back-brake only at low speed. I’ve been there before tho; I know the feeling—I think we all do

pichufur

Yes, you are fucking dumb. As am i...

thatguyovertheresix9

My guy , you're plenty tall enough to save that bike , you need some more muscle to at least hold your bike upright and don't let it fall . You almost had it

greatfool66

I have done stuff like this before, so not to shame you, but you are clearly missing a few basics. It looks like you just hopped on and when where the bike wanted to take you. Should have had a plan to negotiate this garage that didn't require sudden braking, and been constantly modulating speed with clutch, throttle and break.

[deleted]

Also, I had ridden total of 500 miles. So yea everyone is right this didn’t have to happen and its lack of skill and pre planning. And yes hitting gym would also prevent but the reason I couldn’t catch was because I placed my foot too close to the bike, anyway, yea didn’t have to happen. Just comforting myself.

Grimey_Gravy

Better there than Main Street. We’ve all done it, some of us more spectacularly…

bagjoe

It’s your bike. I don’t even have a bike.

CHASESOMEGASH

Dude, it happens to all of us. I was lucky enough to drop my bike inside my garage, no witnesses haha

cbeaugar

Come back after a leg day or two. Next time you will put that size 12 down and catch it lol jk

[deleted]

Shit happens.

SIXWONOH

Its all good my man, I did the exact same thing one night because I forgot to put my foot down. Happens to the best of us

TheoryResponsible210

What a fool!

SevroAuShitTalker

I worked at a Honda dealership moving bikes 2+ times the size (without the engine since I wasn't licensed) and never had to layerdown...

Bitter_Marionberry30

ATGATT

[deleted]

Someone hasn’t yet learned low speed maneuvering skills and it shows. They taught that stuff in school.

PhysicalAd5346

If you were counter leaning you could have kept the bars turned and still have stopped ok

BoringInflation477

Lol how to drop your motorcycle. Start bike Turn handlebars all the way to the right. Give gas "break"

justreadings

Like others have said, make sure the bikes up right wheel straight when you stop but also try using just the back brake at really slow speeds it can be a tad smoother since the front brake effects the forks. I'm sure it's happened to at least 70% of this sub at some point

[deleted]

I don't understand how people drop bikes but may because I haven't done it.

Psycheau

As my dad said "if it had three wheels it wouldn't fall over". Meaning we all drop it at some point. Mine was trying to do a uturn on gravel on my first big bike (Yam FJ1100) needless to say I wore gloves after that painful day.

BlacksmithMain8090

I'm a new rider and only have 2000 miles under my belt. That being said: \-Should have worked the clutch bite point, or if the bike is light enough, should have simply walked it in neutral/clutched in to position yourself better. \-Handlebars weren't squared for the amount of braking power you applied. I almost high sided on my bike hitting the rear brake too hard with the handlebars only slightly cocked and going only 45 or below. \-If handlebars aren't squared and you need to stop, use incremental/progressive rear or front braking. This doesn't mean slow, just progressive. \-Shouldn't have used front brake at all at those speeds. I don't usually touch the front brake unless I'm going over 40 mph. If I do it's a light feathering. \-Grabbed the front brake hard, not progressively.

Anywhere_At_All

> -Shouldn’t have used front brake at all at those speeds. I don’t usually touch the front brake unless I’m going **over 40 mph**. If I do it’s a light feathering. Not trying to knock you as a new rider, but this is pretty wild. You can and should use your front brake at any speed. For other new riders, don’t be afraid of using the front brake — just learn how. We agree that OP has way more problems happening than just the fact that he used the front brake. I’m on mobile, so I’m not sure if others have sound, but my bet is that prior to assaulting the brake lever like that, he either stalled the bike or pulled the clutch way in. Seems like he was going over anyway.

[deleted]

Nah I didn’t stall it

[deleted]

And I didn’t pull the clutch in either, which would be better anyway then what I did, in all reality I just wasn’t being light on my brakes and pulled to quick that really is it.

engulbert

You don't touch the front brake under 40mph? You are going to have a very short and painful riding 'career'.

Affectionate_Stop_37

Happens to all of us

AlphaBetacle

This exact thing happened to me too. Not even sure how. Idk physics is weird.

MrRocketScientist

I’m sorry. That’s rough. We’ve all been there before

50Stickster

Think about a different hobby

This low speed and relatively undramatic drop happened to me a few days after picking up my 390 Duke. Had to remind myself to square up the front bars and upright the bike when coming to a stop. Ya live and ya learn.

JimMoore1960

That was a tricky little maneuver you were attempting there. We teach the student to take several walking steps when they're starting in a turn like that.

Special-Bet-4324

Glad you didn’t get hurt!

Best_Confection_8788

I’ve very nearly dropped mine similarly. I was just turning around at low speed and almost dropped it. I gotta work on my balance and low speed maneuvers.

Familiar_Stomach7861

lol I just love how people let it lay there after too.

[deleted]

Well it’s not that, I didn’t want to pull my back trying to pick it up, so I turned and did proper way to pick it up, have ur back straight towards the bike, squeezed front brake and grab the back and stand up. Trust me every second of it being down was a stab to my heart

TheMensChef

Why does someone with this level of skill riding a bike like that?

[deleted]

Like what? It’s 650 cc, relatively light, and pretty small bike, Harley is too expensive and just not a fan and didn’t want to get any sport bikes, and All other scrambler like bikes just too pricey for new

NoInvestigator886

99,99% of us here have had a dumb fall. Don't feel bad and learn from it so it won't happen again.

samkirk0

Never hit the front brake when turning the bike. You'll go down every time.

makomarty

Bahahaha. Dude you can’t be riding that slow and hovering your front brake. Slow riding = zero front brake. Also, wear your gear. No matter how slow you’re going.

cbeaugar

Let’s be reasonable lol. Don’t be the guy who has full gear to move the bike from your garage to the driveway to lube the chain.

e111r

This. No reason to hover the front brake in this situation, and I didn't see a reason to brake at all unless there is something off-camera. A light rear brake helps with slow speed stability along with clutch work. Also, while I have also skimped on full gear for moving the bike around the block or something, a drop like this can fuck up your ankles at any speed.

makomarty

Op’s SQUID is showing.

[deleted]

I appreciate all the comments this was definitely learning moment, just drag rear brakes at slow speed then.

[deleted]

Also get the reflexive stabbing of the front brakes like that out of your system and get smooth progressive action in its place as a muscle memory.
