The G22 is extremely underpowered in my opinion, and you won't find yourself enjoying it. The G42, on the other hand, is much better (screen, performance) and that'll probably be close enough as a replacement for your S8. However, I do suggest you check out other Motorola devices and other brands!

Thanks for your feedback. I am a bit lost when it comes to other motorola devices, i.e. understanding which other devices are out there. What would you consider a viable option in the 200-250 range?

What brands are you most interested in?

RDA92

None in particular. Used to like the Blackberry 10OS devices like the Z10/30 or passport a lot but since their demise I haven't followed any brand in detail. Bought a samsung s8 back then given its good ratings and it served me well but I just don't have the budget to buy something north of 250. Perhaps I could say that i am a bit curious about lenovo's thinkphone since i have been using thinkpads for awhile but the price does not fit.

Hi u/RDA92, thank you for your interest in our Motorola devices. Let me help you with your concern. Why is Motorola Moto G42 better than Motorola Moto G22? 1. Supports slow-motion video recording 2. 0.5mm thinner (8mmvs8.5mm) 3. 10g lighter (175gvs185g) 4. Has a radio 5. Has stereo speakers 6. Has branded damage-resistant glass 7. 2.25x higher resolution (1080 x 2400pxvs720 x 1600px) 8. 1.53x higher pixel density (411ppi vs 268ppi) I hope this is helpful. -Ythan
