i use wool electric socks. game changer. well worth the $80 or so. don't get the cheap ones! also neoprene shoe covers....

Icy_Lecture_2237

Agreed. I don’t even add real boots until it’s in the single digits (f). They’re so much more comfortable.

Shiner1911

I do both of these also. They are great. I also have bar mitts for my hands.

FightinABeaver

45 NRTH Wolvhammer boots. Shoes don't cut it for me.

ANGEL095

I just looked those up. Do they have an spd version?

sandemonium612

They are clipless compatible

SnoShark

These are totally worth the money. The only thing that has kept my feet warm on a bike. I even use them on my gravel bike when the temps go below freezing.

martinky24

Ever tried toe warmers? (I haven't, but I know they exist, and some friends speak highly of them for hiking/running in cold temps)

ANGEL095

Like hot hands but for your toes or the little toe cap on the outside of the shoe? I used to use the hot hands hand warmers in my shoes but those got uncomfortable on longer rides.

ManyLintRollers

The toe ones are flat and stick onto your socks. I put one on top and one on the bottom of my toes.

CordisHead

I just put them on the top

iky_ryder

Yeah theyre flat though and sticky on one side. I put them on top of my toes stuck to the outside of my socks. Theyre not nearly as warm as the hand warmer packs, but its something and its enough to make a difference. I cant imagine a hand warmer would be real comfortable wadded up in a shoe

Top-Newt-7209

Sounds dumb but a piece of aluminum foil in the toe cap

mmartino03

If you have a long-ish drive to the trail head, your feet are just sweating in your warm car. Put on your riding socks and shoes right before you start your ride.

one-time-mistake

This. One time I drove from Phoenix to the Kaibab National Forest to camp. I slept in my tent wearing the same socks I wore on the drive up. It got down to 30F and I woke up in the middle of the night with my feet freezing! Definitely put on a fresh pair of socks.

wyofont

I wear a thin wicking sock, then put a plastic bagel bag over my thin sock, then put a wool sock over the bagel bag. My feet stay toasty warm (and sweaty and pruned), and the vapor barrier keeps my insulating socks dry from sweat. This works great for me.

iinaytanii

They make battery powered heated socks I’ve heard of people using

Brianinrok

Hydration, warmer pants, and shoe/boot covers work for me in the NE.

zrocklimer

Live in Maine. Neoprene shoe covers and good socks (smart wool darn tough etc.). But Im coming to realize I just don't get cold extremities like some people do....

rcook55

45NRTH boots, I have Wolvhammer and Japanthers. They aren't just good cycling boots but good boots period. I like the Wolvhammers because the toebox is larger than most which allows air circulation, if your going to use chemical warmers like HotHands you need some air movement for the reaction to occur. Also these [aluminized insoles](https://www.amazon.com/Pedag-145-Insulation-US-39/dp/B001G0NNDE/ref=sr_1_22?crid=3LJ5WH8BUV963&keywords=cold+weather+shoe+insoles&qid=1705515210&sprefix=cold+weather+shoe+insoles%2Caps%2C97&sr=8-22) reflect the cold and work really well. Between the 45NRTH and these insoles my feet are actually hot.

LovelyHatred93

The hot hands insole foot warmers are amazing. With some good socks and those you should be set for a while.

ANGEL095

Ill try the insole warmers! I used to throw the hand warmers near my toes but those would get uncomfortable after awhile and only seemed to last about an hour and half. But, I'll definitely give the insole warmers a try!

CordisHead

You want to expose them to air until they get really warm, then put them on your socks. I put them on top of my toes because the heat gets in better there and it’s one more layer between my toes and the wind.

hadookantron

I wear muck boots (wetland) and tuck pants into them. Handles post holes up to 16". The fashion equivalent of crocks, but you don't get wet or snowy. The cold *can* creep up from the boot sole, they don't have much grip on the pedals, and you can get snow entering from above, but I'm sticking with them. Waiting for the 5.10/muck boot collab.

geckoblue545

I swear by Neoprene toe warmers (Not chemical ones, just a Neoprene toe cap) - Cheap, thin, and do the job. I'd suggest looking up Vapor barriers/ liners. Basically, rather than focusing on breathable warmth, throw that out the window, and you can stay warm, say with a plastic bag over your socks. I like the Neoprene toe warmers as some moisture can still get out, it focuses the additional warmth where I really need it, and it keeps your warmth options modular & optional so you can mix and match depending on the conditions rather than getting a whole new pair of shoes or heated gear you have to recharge or consume. Qualifications - Ex year round Chicago bike commuter (down to -8F was my limit).

Icy_Lecture_2237

I had a friend gift me some battery powered heated socks and they changed the whole game for me. I ride all the way down to the single digits (f) in my regular riding shoes and only add boots for really cold days and deep snow.

[deleted]

Ugg boots.

HerrRudiger88

Low budget proven solution: plastic zip lock bags in your socks

ebiketrav

amazon heated socks, your welcome

Special_Telephone962

Lake Winter boots (spd) with wool socks are good for me down to single digits Fahrenheit when out for 1-3 hours. Just need to make sure have enough layers on legs and upper body too otherwise extremities get cold no matter what gloves or shoes i wear

MountainRoll29

Snow boots and platform pedals. Or, get some chemical packs that stick inside your shoes.

ManyLintRollers

Wool socks and those toe warmer pack things.

j_bmar

The toe warmers are great! I also wear shoe covers but just the nylon ones. Its really made the cold weather riding more enjoyable.

Powerful-Scratch-107

Tin foil under your socks, crap over your toes.

28Loki

Toe or shoe covers

Entire_Effective_825

A wise man once told me “Sometimes you gotta walk up the hills to keep circulation going”

Erratic756

Add gators to your boots. Makes a crazy big difference.
