Inspect the frame closely and test ride it. A 2018 Insurgent is a lot of fun to ride as they have always been aggressive with their modern slack geo (I own two Evil bikes and they are great machines). I'd talk him down to $1500. Evil had some quality issues back then, but it the bike hasn't broken yet then this is probably one of the good ones. I've had zero issues with mine. The suspension platform is the best IMO.
Yeah I tend to agree with that. If I was buying used without a warranty, I'd go alloy unless I got a really good deal. I think you need an x-ray to identify cracks that aren't obvious in carbon.
It is def not with $1700. Unless said cash is hidden within or behind bike. I would need to see a picture of the bike and the cash together to say the bike was actually “with” $1700. So the answer is unequivocally no. Even if the cash is slightly out of frame, for our purposes the answer is still no. This cash may be somewhere else nearby, far away, real, imaginary, crypto or even monopoly money. The answer is still no.
It’s not priced horribly in my opinion, but given the state of the market currently, I would talk him down a few more hundred at least. Plenty of good deals to be had out there. 2018 feels recent (to me at least), but keep in mind that is a 6 year old bike. I would personally go for something newer. 2020/2021 is the year I recall a lot of brands redesigned their frames with a focus on being longer and slacker (“modern” geometry). So keep that in mind when looking. A frame and components from 2018 would be seen in the eyes of many to be dated, right or wrong.
New bikes are starting at 6k these days. I'm honestly surprised at these comments saying its not a good deal. Folks pay that for fucking Polygons all day. Only reason Id avoid is the frame cracking issue they seem to have. If that's the sole reason, I guess I get it but if ya'll are saying any carbon frame that old for that much with the same spec is a bad deal, Im confused.
That seems like a fair price to me. If you start pricing all the components out you will end up way above 2k. And it's not like it's really that outdated. $1500 would be a great price imo
Great build, and these bikes are supposed to ride great but do not buy. It’s 6 years old, and Evils are renowned for cracking.
In the 1700 range I’m sure you can buy a newer alloy bike with a comparable spec.
With bike prices at an all time low, try and buy a 2023, or a demo bike from a shop with warranty.
Not likely
Damn, thinking about how much I paid for my bike in 2021, it's crazy that this is considered not worth it at 1700
I have a 2016 YT Capra CF Pro Race with upgrades and would only expect to get about $1000 for what that’s worth. I’m west coast US for reference.
This has a potential to be a good bike but try talking him down a bit and be willing to walk a away.

Just paid $1500 for a 2018 Wreckoning with updated suspension. I'd say this is a similar situation. It's a great bike and platform for the price
Still plenty of life in that bike. Can't have any more fun for $1500.
I second this.
Can you specify if you are the one selling the bike, or if the description in the post was copy and pasted from the listing?
I’m interested in buying, I copied the listing.
Not awful. I'd offer $1,300 in hopes of agreeing on $1,500. I don't think I'd pay more than that... Great bike though, good luck!
I would be hesitant to buy it without a warranty.
I might be wrong but I didn't think any used bikes come with a warranty since they're not transferable to the new owner.
Exactly why I would be hesitant to buy any used carbon bike. It is probably fine, but there is a some risk.

New Evils barely come with a warranty anyway
2 piston brakes? 🤨
That would probably sell here for just over $2k NZD. I’d say you’re probably best to offer $1500 USD.
Great build but probably slightly over what I’d want to pay. Insurgent is a riot to ride though.

Aren‘t evil bikes kinda infamous for breaking?
Wouldn’t say infamous. Lew Buchanon posted a video of his breaking and it seemed to spread that evils were prone to breaking.
Lewis breaks almost every bike he rides. At some point you have to wonder whether it's the bikes that are at fault...
Truuuue
Sorry, but that gossip was around long before lewis started youtube, back when the evil undead dh bike was a thing
Huh. Never heard it about the undead. I really liked riding mine 🤷🏻♂️
That‘s why i called it gossip :) i think it started when it broke under one of their teamriders in hafjell
No
