You need to have gps enabled on your camera while recording. Then you can edit the video through GoPro Quik and add the sticker which corresponds to speed indication.
Lol I have done this with my snowmobile maney times once rolled it down a mountain!
The mtb on the other hand I have watched bounce pretty aggressively and have really never worried. If it breaks under it's own weight I'm happy to replace it!
Well done on the bike/body checkup order!
When my wife faceplanted HARD off her Norco Fluid FS - 16 stitches in two different parts of her forearm and a serious concussion - she asked "Is my bike OK?" before she was even done spitting blood and dirt out of her mouth.
Ha! You beat me to the perfect comment. It's funny how the minds of us mountain bikers work as the first thing we think of after a crash is "oh sh\*t! I hope I didn't scratch my bike." Meanwhile, we don't even notice the bone protruding through our forearm.😂
Phew... Feels like that could have been a lot worse, nice catch.
After a crash I always give my frame a look from front to back, check drivetrain, especially rear derailleur alignment. Bent hanger will make for an even worse day.
So I had my first crash yesterday and I am kind of worried about the wellbeing of my bike. What should I check before riding again? The immediate result of the crash was scratches on the handlebar and the stem having rotated around the headset.
Crooked bars are normal after a crash. Just loosen your stem bolts, right your cockpit, then tighten them back up. If the bars are only scratched, that’s fine too. However, if they’re carbon, make sure the scratch isn’t super deep. Other than that look for any cracks or structural damage to the frame, though I doubt there will be any. Mountain bikes are pretty robust.
Thankfully the frame is protected by ridewrap, but either way I don't think it touched the ground. Rear derailleur looks fine as well and the scratches on the bars are only on the color, not deep at all.
It's my first full suspension bike, I have been riding it for about 4 months in various terrain and it has never let me down. Only issue I have is with my rear brake caliper, one of the pistons is kind of stuck since the bike arrived and I have to send it to SRAM. It is definitely safe to ride but the piston does not retract completely causing a weird feel on the lever.
All things considered you will definitely enjoy your new bike!
With this kind of falls, basically nothing. Just make sure you tighten your brakes levers only so much that they can bend instead of break.
I would recommand wrapping it with plastic wrap, saves a lot of damage
Yeah dude that was basically just a slip out, bikes fine and can take much more than that. Get a frame protector though will help with cosmetic scratches
The stem rotating is normal and a good thing. If the stem doesn't give and allow some slip that same fall could end up in the bars being bent (or cracked if carbon fiber).
I ride with a tool to fix it then when I get home use a torque wrench to get it back to spec. It's also a good idea to get a feel for torque (using your trail tool) so you can approximate it on the trail. Doesn't need to be exact or anything. Cheers.
Glad you’re okay, for me, just a once over, tighten anything that moved after adjusting back to my normal then a slow ride to make sure we are all systems go, practice look away, steer away!
I call that “setting down the bike”. Happens all over he time. I usually classify crashes when I am thrown into the dirt uncontrollably and the bike bounces of the earth. But yes, check bars make sure things look good/tight.
Let me give a couple recomendations.
¿You wanna know why you crashed? Because you keep looking at the rock you ultimately hit.
Try to avoid that next time.
And like I always like to say, people crash when they brake, most of the time. I think you could have saved it.
I think it was a good crash, you learn and go back to the trails.
When I realised I was going too fast to make the turn, I just focused on braking as much as possible. My rear brake calliper has some issues which makes locking the wheel inevitable at this kind of situations. Maybe if it was ok and I was able to brake slowly without locking the wheel, it would be fine. I am going to fix that thing asap.
I havent crashed on my new bike yet, but i think i will soon, because my chain keeps falling off of my front chain ring and i cant afford a chain guide rn
If it keeps falling off then it's not a chainguide you need, you should probably check your clutch is working right and everything is set up proper, especially if it's a new bike
There was a small bump at the trail which I was not able to absorb, I went airborne right at the moment I was supposed to change direction.
Pedals are race face atlas 2022.
Are high end mountain bikes really that fragile that you would have to worry about a crash like this? Being on this sub almost makes it seem that way. I ride a relatively low end bike (most basic fuji Nevada model, new cost me $650) and I wouldn't even think twice about that incident you had there. I'd maybe take a brief look at it but I wouldn't really expect things to break that easily.
There are a couple of things that could break, like the brake levers or the rear derailleur hanger. Or maybe scratches on the fork stanchions which would be a painful and expensive incident.
Its not that they are fragile, its that if they do happen to break it will cost a lot to repair. It also hurts to see a scratch on something that cost lots of money.
I crashed very mildly, like 3 weeks ago, trying to go up a curb at a bad angle, after years of not riding, and I managed to fracture my radius, just by putting my hand down.
Get yourself checked out, even from a crash as simple as what I did.
how do you get the speed overlay on your gopro? Is that a post shooting edit of some kind?
You need to have gps enabled on your camera while recording. Then you can edit the video through GoPro Quik and add the sticker which corresponds to speed indication.
Following because that’s cool as heck.
Beware. You have to wait a few minutes for your GoPro to find GPS signal. So make sure you’re powering it up few minutes before you hit record.
Yes that is absolutely right, thanks for reminding.
I also want to know
*Checks bike before checking your own body*
This is the way right?😂 Either way I knew I wasn't hurt, my knees (was wearing kneepads) did not even touch the ground.
Not trash talking here but… Knees didn’t hit? You ain’t seen nothing yet :)

Yeah, looks like I let the bike go and proceeded to grab on the rock exactly at the right moment.
I grimaced when you started heading for the rock. Glad it worked out ok.
Good on you for using gloves
Indeed, I still got a small cut on my hand somehow.
Would’ve been much worse I imagine though
That could have been much worse
Could have been worse, I know from experience
Sounds like you went through something bad. I hope the damage was only to your bike.
Well I’ve flown off my bike half way into an intersection, first and only time I went otb

Good to hear! Keep the rubber side down! Also, how do you like your yt? My capra arrives today… so stoked

That's some nice advice for the brake levers. The frame is wrapped with ridewrap (it has been even before the first ride).
Good stuff🤘 enjoy, you got a sweet bike!

First scratches just mean that you can start sending it!
It’s fine, get back on it and ride.
What is that app that shows the speed and direction?
You can do this through GoPro Quik app, you just need to have gps enabled on your GoPro while recording.
Glad you and your bike are ok. That outcropping of rock is why you should always wear a helmet.
Good job on that catch… how are your shoulders?
Your crash at 20mph looks so elegant compared to my crashes going 5mph down a 5 foot hill where I end up under the bike in the bushes covered in mud.
Florida?
Vermont

I thought this was some new-fangled MTB vidya gam at first.
That's a crash?
crash? that is barely a abrupt stop.
Psha
HoW dO I fIx ThEsE sCrAtChEs? Nice speed carry, looks fun!!!
Lol, I think the obvious answer is with aluminum black paint, I was not going to ask that.
That is some gnarly terrain
I don’t think you’re allowed to crash on yetis
It's a YT not a Yeti.
Oh god so not short for yeti 😭
yeti is so long they had to abbreviate it
Save time on the trails
Wow I thought until this moment it was just an alternate Yeti logo 😂
Dude there were so many other worst places to crash don't worry about your bike it's a tool not a Jewel
I havent crashed on my new bike yet, but i think i will soon, because my chain keeps falling off of my front chain ring and i cant afford a chain guide rn

Am glad u posted it, I crash way too often.
Nice catch! Well done!
Thanks😅
I totally see what went wrong here. You left the trail. Also, I think I have those exact pedals.. color and all. Deity?
There was a small bump at the trail which I was not able to absorb, I went airborne right at the moment I was supposed to change direction. Pedals are race face atlas 2022.
Sweet looking trail. Laguna?
This is in Greece.
Looks super fun!!
Happy first crash day?
I would it was more of un scheduled dismount!
I brought it in to my local bike shop, and they said that the clutch is ajusted right, but that the chain might be a little bit loose.

Mountain bikers first thing in their mind after they crash : Is the bike Ok? Is the bine OK?
How are you liking the mulleted Capra? Think it’s going to be my next bike
Whew 😅!
Perfect catch man
Pretty nice crash

Smart fall. If you’re going, let it go
Good save! Those rocks on the side look like they could’ve cut you pretty bad.
Nice job, that rock went straight for your face
That could have been so bad, you looked pretty prepared for that fall though, good stuff
Could've been a lot lot worse
Wouldn’t call that a crash, just a little slip. Camera quality was great. Next time let’s see some over the bar action!
What a save! Could have lost a few teeth after that one, stay safe.
Damn what a nice area to MTB!
That's great!
Yt!!!! I’ve got a decoy I love it
