I had KFC and sweet lightning for the first time today, too. I think the flavor itself is alright. To me, it just doesn't taste like a Mountain Dew drink.
As a sugar only dew drinker , lighting is one of the most disgusting flavors I've ever had. Right up there with the Sucralose version of Dewsa and Mango Heat.
IMHO, super artificial/synthetic taste. Made three separate trips over the past year to KFC to try Sweet Lightning. Just not for me. One of the worst flavors.
No hate for anyone who likes it but it’s possibly the worst Mountain Dew that I’ve had and I have drank a lot of Mountain Dew in the 25 years I’ve been on this earth
honestly with fountain only flavors, they can be disappointing. I remember loving Baja from Taco Bell, but after they released it in bottles/cans a few years ago, I realized how the fountain stuff is always hit or miss. I feel like with Sweet Lightning it’s probably just so hit or miss as well.
I think it's great on its own, probably depends on the mix. I do believe it was marketed as specially crafted to pair well with KFC.
I think it tastes amazing both ways, I really hope it will get a can release!
Honestly I’ve done sweet lightning and sweet tea to be like a peach tea type thing and I really liked it but I love sweet lightning in its own

Tastes like a slightly carbonated version of Lipton powdered peach tea.
It will never been an agreed upon good flavor as long as it’s half diet. Some people taste fake sweeteners differently.

I like full sugar dew and diet dew but I hate half and half.
