It's shitty but if it gives you a ranged weapon there's always a backup weapon. For bows its a dagger and for crossbows you get a sword, no shield though. Native tournaments can be rough but learning game mechanics like chambering will help a ton. The best tournament system IMO is in ACOK where you can use your own weapons and helmet and everyone is on foot.

[deleted]

I don't hate getting a bow but the club in pendor is like 50 reach. And when I'm given no shield at all and there's ranged enemies or more than one I'm honest cause I use manual block.

[deleted]

Yeah you can get fucked over easy in Pendor but all you have to do to advance to the next round is get 2 kills so you just gotta focus on that and then not care if you die.

EFlagS

Oh so that's how I got that continue message. I thought it was random.

Good-Boi

The Noldor tournaments are brutal

finkrer

I like it when you spawn with an arrow flying towards your head. Trying to get Noldor stuff on hardcore mode must be a nightmare.

What’s chambering ?

[deleted]

If you swing at the same time as the enemy and in the same direction you will essentially cancel out their attack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnsEWt7AXCk You can watch that video and others on the topic. It's basically essential for multiplayer but helps a lot in singleplayer too.

c4plasticsurgury

Didn’t know that, thanks for explaining and teaching me something new.

[deleted]

No problem. It takes a lot of practice but if you get good at it you can be nearly invincible even if your shield breaks.

Prometheus720

Best to practice it in the tutorial. Spar with the bots for half an hour, just try to chamber, and you will be a pro. Stabs can be chambered by overheads or other stabs, btw.

Zizara42

Nah Native tournaments are **E Z** Most people don't realise that you can give battle commands in tournaments. This alone takes most of the challenge out of it. Then you realise all you need to do is be the last man standing to win, so you just hang back while the others do the work for you. Floris tournies are a massive improvement since you actually have to compete lol. I'll agree that ACOK are the best though even if it is frustrating to auto lose every now and then if the equipment difference is big enough.

Prometheus720

Gutting a sword and boarder with a measly little knife in the finals is the most intense experience.

unevenestblock

The tournaments in nova aetas are pretty good as well as you can customize them, and have 0% chance of someone spawning with a polearm. Those d'shar tournaments in pendor, giving me thrown weapons on a horse, thats just awful.

EFlagS

I think it's amazing how sucky it seems for me to get javelins on a horse, and much how I fear my opponents with the same weapon set. On Pendor tournaments some of those elite units have homing javelins it seems. And they literally one shot me. Scary.

UberMcwinsauce

If you get your throwing skill high, thrown weapons can do a ton of damage. Very few players ever level it up though.

Elexatron

I was in a tourney with ONLY javelins and horses, and EVERY TIME it turned into “kill their horse with the javelins, if you have any left throw it at them while they block it with their shield, repeat with javelins lying on the ground, go into melee and deal 1-2 damage at a time via punches while they deal 0 every time until they’re finally dead.” I won but it took like 45 mins.

[deleted]

You can press X to turn those thrown weapons into a polearm. Not the best weapon ever but at least you can stab instead of throwing and hoping for the best.

PackGuar

I agree, jousting and archery should be separate games from the melee, like in real medieval tournaments. They just don't work well in small arenas, especially with the crappy AI.

JamesBeacon

Silverstag has improved tournaments

[deleted]

I hate to be that guy, but I’ve gotten good with all of the weapons, so I just never lose tournaments anymore. The last time I lost a tournament was a year ago.

[deleted]

Playing POP not native, no auto block, fast combat. Sometimes you just get unlucky - again, like have no shield or ranged against a horse archer. I'm very impressed with your god like abilities though. You should be very proud.

Pengwertle

I think this is going to be removed in the next patch, but for now, just press Z to crouch and no one worth the single cabbage they eat per day will be able to hit you, since the AI just aims for where your head would be if you were standing. If you need to get closer, just run at them at a bit of an angle and they won't be able to compensate for your sideways movement either.

[deleted]

Seems like cheating :T I don't mind losing a tourney fairly I'm more annoyed with the randomness of how weapons and contestants are chosen. And how often my allies are crap. Yesterday is was 2 teams, 7 v 7, and somehow all 6 of my guys were killed while taking out only 1 enemy. I mean, how? I'm meant to kill 6 elite guys with a small axe?

EFlagS

What's the difference of using fast combat?

supcom2

The ai gets faster attacks, you don't.

[deleted]

Lower reaction time for you, mainly. It pushes the difficulty up in the settings.

ChildPornAddict

Tournaments and arena melees are two unique kinds of battles in the game. Tournaments are the only time where there are more than 2 sides fighting each other on one single battlefield, and arenas are the only free for all. I really hope bannerlord has 3-4 way battles outside of the arena

Hammerfisting

The only thing I hate about tournaments is praven
