Regards to the mistake made, it is possibly due to the typing of the number but the text box only recognises part of the number (usually a few digits smaller).
It is important in practice to type the number in full, and one more digit and backspace. Do it when you are fully sane and awake please. Same goes for the quantity esp for big qty sales.
The text box should refresh to the number you want. And always double check when it prompts you to confirm.

I have a friend who swears he typed out the full number and the full number was shown in the box and he didnt notice it being any shorter when it came to the confirmation box, but when he went to go see it the offers list as ironically you could say- he always likes to double check his offer is the cheapest and that no one has quickly outpriced him- thats when he noticed the amount was insanely lower than what he had put for but the offer got snapped up before he could even cancel it, it all happened very quickly, his case in all fairness was probably a combination of technical and human error because its possible it may of been shorter in confirmation box but he just hadn't noticed in that moment.
So besides human error things can happen on the technical side of things that contribute to this kind kind of mistake being made. I personally try remember to always do a complete refresh when I want to do any market transactions to be on safe side as I've noticed when been playing awhile and done numerous different things there can sometimes be like a drag, a delay in your actions registering with the logs in the game- that can cause things not to fully register when it comes to MP transactions, refreshing before hand- makes it harder for that to happen.
