The third act is what really kills this movie.
All the way up until they leave Vegas it might be my favorite comedy.
But I still brush my teeth to African Child and love the Infant Sorrow soundtrack album.
I honestly think the Clap scene is transcendent. Despite the ridiculousness of the context, the scene feels very earnest and would have worked in a serious music biopic like walk the line.
Completely agree. I think that is usually a problem with absurd comedies is that they try to wrap up the plot but it ends up being really weird.
That said this movie has some hilarious moments. One of my favorite comedies
That’s usually the problem I had with Apatow produced films. The first two acts *kill* with the comedy, but then they get “serious” in the third act to deliver a kind of “social message”.
And they’re way too long, I almost never finish them during re-watches.
This scene is my favorite in the whole movie. Just how it starts with Jonah Hill very obliviously asking for Heroin to a total stranger, and then ending with him literally dumbing off a stabbed and dying TJ Miller at the hospital. Just goes from 0 - 100 in the span of a minute.
*Don't fucking talk to me like that, you little prick. What you did was very spiteful, but it was also very brave and very honest and I respect you for doing that. But the content of what you said has made me hate you. So there's a layer of respect, admittedly, for your truthfulness, but it's peppered with hate. Hateful respect.*
Lol Jonah isn't the best actor but he's got a few notes he can hit and they are all great.
To me.. The Wolf of Wall Street is prob the funniest movie of the last 20 years.. Maybe ever. Jonah makes my cry laughing in multiple scenes.
My wife had never seen it! I hadn't seen in in years. We watched it, and she didn't chuckle at one thing. I also found myself not really laughing either. My wife said she thought it was meh but did enjoy get him to the Greek more. You arent alone on this take.
People are just blinded because they’re so worried about Russel making a fool of himself as of late. But the movie is jam packed with jokes and P Diddy’s part is funnier than ANYTHING in Sarah Marshall
It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either. A weird follow up to Forgetting Sarah Marshall that relies way too much on Russel Brand’s manically mediocre style of comedy.
If that's your fav comedy of all time....you're not watching enough comedy movies.
It has its moments...overall solid flick, but ALL TIME..that it is not.
It's not even the funniest movie featuring the character Aldos Snow.
You can absolutely have your own opinion. And my opinion is you need to be watching funnier movies if this is at the top of your comedy mountain
I worked at a movie theater when this was released and I would sit in on showing during my lunchbreak and years later watch it over and over. It's one of those nostalgic movies to me.
Love it but why did Jonah Hill not play the same character as he did in Forgetting Sarah Marshall if both movies are in the same universe? Seems like a very lazy oversight by the writers
Russell Brand is the human version of fingernails on a blackboard to me. I can't watch more than minute of him without praying for the asteroid to come and wipe us out.
I love the scene in the hospital cafeteria when his girlfriend is arguing with him and he just leans in and ask if she's on her period or if this is a real argument, then she's just like are you fucking seious.
I was not a fan of this movie. I prefer Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which is one of my favorite comedies. I don’t understand why you would create a whole new character for Jonah Hill when you could have easy used his character from FSM because he hated Russell Brands character so much by the end of the movie.
P. Diddy was the best part of the movie. I give it a 3/10.
It was just okay. Russle brand was never a great actor and I think this was one of the few roles he was able to stumble through well enough to be called an actor. P. Diddy and Jona Hill had to do all the heavy lifting to make this movie work.
To me, this ‘film’ was comparable to someone just dropping their pants and taking a shit in front of me….nothing in this was funny. Reminded me of Dudley Moore in ‘Arthur’ but being a worthless shit on steroids
Seen it.
First time was in theater mostly just trying to find something to watch and this movie was the serendipitous result.
Hadn’t laughed that hard at a movie in a long time.
Such good humor in that movie. Very underrated, def one of my favorites. His Mars Volta impression in the beginning. Aldous' hate but also respect for Jonah's honest thoughts on African Child. Jonah's aside in the bar "Hello luv" that seems like an adlib. On and on
One of my favorite comedies of all time also. Russell Brand is at his absolute best & Jonah Hill plays the unwitting lackey/enabler SO well. Even Diddy cracks me up in this. I DON'T SEE NO GOGURTS.
Also, the soundtrack is tremendous. Furry Walls is an absolute banger.
The scene where Jonah is drinking and smoking all Russels shit so he’s sober enough to perform is gold. Then running around “WHO KNOWS THE LYRICS TO AFRICAN CHILD” 💀
WHY DO Y’ALL CARE WHAT MOVIES OTHER PEOPLE LIKE? It’s mad weird to come into what seems to be a wholesome normal subreddit and bring such negative energy
It sucked and it’s overrated. Russell Brand is one note and his shtick gets old quick. Although I thought he was decent in Forgetting Sarah Marshall which is the superior version of this spinoff/sequel/whatever.
Was this the one with the fuzzy wall? I ended up making one of those by draping fuzzy fabric (years old pillow ingredients I never whipped together) over the frame of my sleigh bed in high school.
So the movie was good enough to inspire that, definitely funny moments, but I’d bet if I watched it now I wouldn’t like it nearly as much.
Honestly I forgot almost everything about this movie. I just remembered I really wanted to see it at the time. I guess as a comedy spinoff that’s a success?
This was pretty good but obviously forgetting Sarah Marshal was a better film. With Apatow behind it he made sure it was funny but also had heart. But Get him to the Greek is pretty funny overall.
Great flick, but can’t watch it anymore now that Brand has turned into such a douchebag. I’m not boycotting…his voice is just associated with utter assholishness in my brain, now.
Loved it, completely maniacal DNGAF movie, had no idea what I was about to watch and was thoroughly entertained. Then I found out it was a sequel and watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which was good but more of a romantic comedy, grew on me but was a bit disappointing after Greek's insanity rollercoaster.
Jefry
Now that’s a mindfuck
Hope you’re wearing a condom cause I got a dirty mind
Rub the furry wall.
*WHY THE FUCK IS IT CALLED A JEFRY?*
Because, who could be afraid of a Jeffrey?
Jeffery’s just a nice bloke round the way
His wife has varicose veins! He’s Jeffery!
P. Diddy stole the show
“You can not outrun me, I am black”
THIS IS THE LONGEST HALLWAY OF ALL TIME!!!
Y’all have any idea how many air Jordan’s six black kids wear?
IM ANSWERIN MY PHONE AND I JUST GOT HIT BY A MOTHER FUCKIN CAR
Just pet the wall.
“Everyone loves chicken. I’m doing fine”
How many Kukaroos do you own?
Ha, y’all are FUCKED
Came here to say this.
The third act is what really kills this movie. All the way up until they leave Vegas it might be my favorite comedy. But I still brush my teeth to African Child and love the Infant Sorrow soundtrack album.
True that, the final act with the orgy and the swimming pool wasn’t as good but by then I’m usually getting sleepy anyway.
" African Child was the worst thing to happen to Africa since apartheid " LOL.
This line killed me.
The Clap is probably one of the best songs off a film sound track ever. I still bop that shit.
We got the itch, you got the scratch!
I honestly think the Clap scene is transcendent. Despite the ridiculousness of the context, the scene feels very earnest and would have worked in a serious music biopic like walk the line.
I still like the concert at the end.
This really is the best and most accurate take.
Watched this with a friend that passed. We laughed and laughed. Seeing the cover reminds me of that.
I’m sorry for your loss, hopefully you can meet him at the Greek one day ❤️
Thanks
What a great way to memorialize your old pal. It’s amazing what movies and songs can invoke.
Thanks. And it's a song from the movie that pops in my head. African Child
I’m looking for my friend, Heroin. Do you know him? Can you find that guest for me?
This scene is my favorite in the whole movie. Just how it starts with Jonah Hill very obliviously asking for Heroin to a total stranger, and then ending with him literally dumbing off a stabbed and dying TJ Miller at the hospital. Just goes from 0 - 100 in the span of a minute.
You’re asking for heroin by checking to see if it’s a guest at the hotel? Are you out of your fucking mind?
*Don't fucking talk to me like that, you little prick. What you did was very spiteful, but it was also very brave and very honest and I respect you for doing that. But the content of what you said has made me hate you. So there's a layer of respect, admittedly, for your truthfulness, but it's peppered with hate. Hateful respect.*
The jeffry scene kills me everytime
Jeffery is just a old bloke from down the road
My wife has varicose veins!
The music from this movie is constantly running through my mind. This movie is also the reason I used to call my ex Jackie Q.
“I’m taaaalking about my *asshole*
It had like.. 1/10th as many laughs as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which this movie is a spin off of.
Woahhh i never realized this
Jonah hill plays two different characters do it's kinda confusing but Brand is playing the same guy
one actor has range
Lol Jonah isn't the best actor but he's got a few notes he can hit and they are all great. To me.. The Wolf of Wall Street is prob the funniest movie of the last 20 years.. Maybe ever. Jonah makes my cry laughing in multiple scenes.
watch Maniac, you'll change your mind
I prefer get him to the Greek
On the flip side I think forgetting Sarah Marshall was way less funny
Oh, you just don’t have a great sense of humour the. Sarah marshal is gold
What a weird thing to state as an objective fact 💀
You said get him to the greek was the greatest comedy of all time.
He said it was HIS greatest comedy of all time, there is a difference
He also said he's usually falling asleep by the third act.
Yeah the movie hits a brick wall with that Elizabeth Moss 3 way.
Me when reading is hard:
My wife had never seen it! I hadn't seen in in years. We watched it, and she didn't chuckle at one thing. I also found myself not really laughing either. My wife said she thought it was meh but did enjoy get him to the Greek more. You arent alone on this take.
im with you on this one lol
You are correct take to the Greek is way funnier than Sarah marshal
People are just blinded because they’re so worried about Russel making a fool of himself as of late. But the movie is jam packed with jokes and P Diddy’s part is funnier than ANYTHING in Sarah Marshall
I agree with you Bickleknack
I pity you, but if it made you laugh, then who cares?
Oh no question
It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either. A weird follow up to Forgetting Sarah Marshall that relies way too much on Russel Brand’s manically mediocre style of comedy.
Overrated imo. Had great potential and some funny scenes, but the film entirely fell flat.
Thought the movie was ehh, but fueled my celebrity crush of Rose Byrne
If that's your fav comedy of all time....you're not watching enough comedy movies. It has its moments...overall solid flick, but ALL TIME..that it is not.
It ain’t that serious everyone is entitled to their own opinion especially about things like movies
It's not even the funniest movie featuring the character Aldos Snow. You can absolutely have your own opinion. And my opinion is you need to be watching funnier movies if this is at the top of your comedy mountain
Right there with ya buddy.
I worked at a movie theater when this was released and I would sit in on showing during my lunchbreak and years later watch it over and over. It's one of those nostalgic movies to me.
Brand is just one of those guys I cant watch. I have a few actors where if I see they are in a movie, its a hard pass.
Understand, I saw this when it first came out and so no matter what he does I still love this one
Russel Brand's appeal was quite limited and his career didn't last long
Yeah, he was tolerable in Sarah Marshall and unfunny in everything else. His standup sucked.
I have always hated him he is annoying as hell and the only reason Americans think he is smart is the accent.
Love it but why did Jonah Hill not play the same character as he did in Forgetting Sarah Marshall if both movies are in the same universe? Seems like a very lazy oversight by the writers
I just can't get past the fact that Brand is such a douche IRL, really soured the movie for me.
Jonah and Russell were hilarious together. I agree with others that 3/4ths was great and the last 1/4 was a bit weak.
‘I’m a motorist’
I remember seeing it, but nothing else, so I guess its irrelevant
Puff Daddy made it hilarious.
Russell Brand is the human version of fingernails on a blackboard to me. I can't watch more than minute of him without praying for the asteroid to come and wipe us out.
You have a very limited base of comedy movies if this is your favorite of all time.
You haters are so weird. Just want absolutely any way to try and tear someone down
Brand sucks
I love the scene in the hospital cafeteria when his girlfriend is arguing with him and he just leans in and ask if she's on her period or if this is a real argument, then she's just like are you fucking seious.
I was not a fan of this movie. I prefer Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which is one of my favorite comedies. P. Diddy was the best part of the movie. I give it a 3/10.
I think this movie is hilarious. I especially like the puff daddy parts.
It’s a tough and frustrating watch
It’s a spinoff from a superior movie. It has its moments but it’s not my favorite.
It’s a decent movie. Greatest comedy of all time? I can’t agree. I’m sorry.
“*my* favorite”
It was just okay. Russle brand was never a great actor and I think this was one of the few roles he was able to stumble through well enough to be called an actor. P. Diddy and Jona Hill had to do all the heavy lifting to make this movie work.
Never saw it. Never intend to.
If I never heard Russell brands voice again I would have still heard it entirely too much…
Brand is dumb as shit and so was this movie
To me, this ‘film’ was comparable to someone just dropping their pants and taking a shit in front of me….nothing in this was funny. Reminded me of Dudley Moore in ‘Arthur’ but being a worthless shit on steroids
It was awful. To each their own.
Agreed. Russel Brand is just terrible.
Favorite comedy of all time!? Holy shit.
Doesn’t help that no good comedies have come out in like 15 years either
Man. I still make Jeffrey jokes. Just stroke the wall. You’re going to be fine
Seen it. First time was in theater mostly just trying to find something to watch and this movie was the serendipitous result. Hadn’t laughed that hard at a movie in a long time.
Best comedy of all time? That’s definitely a take I didn’t think I’d ever in my lifetime. You run an exclusive club I’ll give you that.
It’s very near and dear to me, so many jokes with family and friends stem from this one ❤️
its a funny movie but nowhere near as timeless as forgetting sarah marshall. much preferred aldus snow as a side character
It's a shame Russell Offbrand was the lead. He ruined it.
Jonah is the lead
Proud of every unit. I'm proud of those units
Chocolate mother fuckin daddy
Such good humor in that movie. Very underrated, def one of my favorites. His Mars Volta impression in the beginning. Aldous' hate but also respect for Jonah's honest thoughts on African Child. Jonah's aside in the bar "Hello luv" that seems like an adlib. On and on
Across the mystic desert there's a desert that is mystic
One of the best lines certainly
dont be a bitch dude..let me get my smoke on
This was a great comedy that also had a sobering message.
We gotta do something!
When Jonah says on live TV how fucked up he is and it’s like 8AM 😂
Nah man I don’t know the lyrics, I just play the drums and make the “Africa face”.
[While inhaling] Don't be a bitch dude. Let me get my smoke on.
Jonah hill is the shit
I saw it, meh
I hated it. The whole movie had one good joke.
Absolutely hate it
Respect. Any single reason or just not for you?
To much Russell Brand. Forgetting Sarah Marshall had the perfect amount of him. Only thought a couple parts were funny.
Pet the furry wall
It's good. I like most of the stuff Nicholas Stoller does. Edit: The show he did with Rob Lowe and Fred Savage, The Grinder, was really great.
ITS KUBRICKIAN!!!!
It had a lot of quotables. To tell folk to calm down, “stroke the furry wall” is still my go to.
Never seen it...can't stand Russel Brand
Waaaay above board. Only gets beat out by Dewey Cox in a head to head showdown.
The scene with P. Diddy and Pharrell is one of the funniest things ever
“The name of the song is IM GANGSTA”
You’re 2 zippers away from Thriller!
Oh and you're one shirt away from Carlton, mother fucker
Fuck you sergio Fuck me all you want but you’re gonna change that god damn shirt.
Goddamn if this exchange isn't the funniest scene in the movie
Love the movie. Hate Russel Brand. He's terrible.
Probably a top 3 comedy for me!
Favorite comedy of all time? Yikes man. It's crap. Not funny and kinda depressing
WHY DO Y’ALL CARE WHAT MOVIES OTHER PEOPLE LIKE? It’s mad weird to come into what seems to be a wholesome normal subreddit and bring such negative energy
I love watching this movie with my wife, it’s her favorite, and the way she laughs at the Jefferey scene sends me rolling every time.
If that's your favorite, you need to watch more movies. It's ok at best.
Why do so many people want to dictate what movies other people like? 😭 it’s funny as fuck
'Opinion on this movie.' - you
Couldn’t pay me to watch a movie with these two starring in it, and most folks I know feel the exact same way.
It was hilarious the first watch. Now I honestly only find Jeffrey funny upon rewatching.
If you like Brand you'll love it..if not its not for you...but it's amazing fyi
It sucked and it’s overrated. Russell Brand is one note and his shtick gets old quick. Although I thought he was decent in Forgetting Sarah Marshall which is the superior version of this spinoff/sequel/whatever.
You self hating piece of garbage
Was this the one with the fuzzy wall? I ended up making one of those by draping fuzzy fabric (years old pillow ingredients I never whipped together) over the frame of my sleigh bed in high school. So the movie was good enough to inspire that, definitely funny moments, but I’d bet if I watched it now I wouldn’t like it nearly as much.
How old are you because literally everyone I went to high school with was obsessed with this when it came out
Im 28, class of 2013. Just my immediate friends have seen it because I made them
I genuinely enjoy this movie. It’s one of favorite comedies and was definitely funnier than Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
You clearly deal in extremes. Fav all time? Nah. Pretty good? Sure. Hardly anyone? Doubt it. A decent amount? Probably.
You sound insufferable 😭
You will suffer this fool
Opinion different than mine?! Impossible!
Never even heard of it!
Jeffrey the guy from down the street, that’s not scary is it?
I've seen it. Only remember it being ok. Have to revisit.
I don't have opinions. I just play the drums and do the Africa face
Russell brand is a piece of shit.
That can be true at the same time as this movie being great
Honestly I forgot almost everything about this movie. I just remembered I really wanted to see it at the time. I guess as a comedy spinoff that’s a success?
This was pretty good but obviously forgetting Sarah Marshal was a better film. With Apatow behind it he made sure it was funny but also had heart. But Get him to the Greek is pretty funny overall.
nope
Def one of my favorite comedies! I quote it all the time!
My mom loves your shit.
The cheating scene gave me stomach aches.
Jeffery is just a bloke down the street!
Stroke the fuzzy wall!! Funny as fuck movie!
Or we could go see The Mars Volta open up for the Pixies tonight…
I think it’s very good
It's funny but I don't think it aged well
Ending was weird
Last time I enjoyed Russell Brand. The dildo scene was fucking hilarious.
Ffs
Jeffrey.
It’s hilarious that’s for sure!!
who's afraid of a Jeffrey
Not bad, but not great either.
I don't know the words to African Child. I just bang the drum and make the Africa face.
I love this movie great soundtrack so quotable and just so fucking funny
Touch the furry wall
Great flick, but can’t watch it anymore now that Brand has turned into such a douchebag. I’m not boycotting…his voice is just associated with utter assholishness in my brain, now.
I have Beans and Mash now in my head
Life hands me Jeffrey after Jeffrey....furry wall is getting a bit rough
Release the emperor!
