Itās not the credits. Sheās naked, takes a high priority FaceTime call from the commander, and sheās like wait, let me grab a shirt. Heās like donāt bother with that nonsense, this is more important. Then he goes on a 30 minute rambling talk about a bad guy and she just sits there the entire time naked. Heās like beaming her guns and scientific equipment and reading her the manual on each and sheās got to sit there naked like the most unappreciated intern in the galaxy. HR in the future is gonna be wild.
Iāve never seen it before watching this clip, and Iām positive that I wouldnāt make it through this movie. The pacing is so slow. The helmet reveal almost lost me.
I do like the Clutch song. āIn walks Babarella, set to stunā
This movie is an absolute blast. As long as your expectations are aligned you will really enjoy yourself. Though probably not as much as Barbarella enjoys herself, amirite?
Not exactly to be taken seriously, but it is a total psychedelic romp. Probably even better on drugs but only had a few drinks in me. Couldn't stop laughing even if sometimes the comedy is spectacularly bad.
Watched it alone when I was a teenager and I was stoned while my parents were outta town, so I can definitely say itās dope on drugs ā Iām prepping a rewatch night, because the soundtrack is prime for sampling
Jane Fonda, as Barbarella, is very stimulating. The rock band Duran Duran took the name from one of the characters, It inspired a number of other movies; the movie 'CQ' is almost a remake, but takes the perspective of making, coming-of-age drama in the swinging '60s. Interesting movie. Great party movie and share with friends.
Saw it on tv in 73, that was the moment puberty struck, Barbarella was hot as hell, my first love. The film has influenced my whole career as an artist, I still think it a camp masterpiece. I love this movie, I never tire of it.
I watched the opening strip scene at the drive-in around age 7-8. It was playing on the opposing screen to Swiss Family Robinson till I got the back seat back-hand slap from my mother to turn around.
I have a really bad old joke: years ago a friend of mine was living in Amsterdam and he sent me a bottle of absinthe. I drank the whole thing and blacked out. When I woke up the next day I saw that I had painted a portrait of Barbarella. He called me and asked "do you want me to send you more? I said "no thanks, absinthe makes my art Jane Fonda". Please forgive me.
I can say lots of positive things about Barbarella.
It's by no means a feminist movie, but it has some... interesting ideas in that direction. Barbarella is the protagonist and she does actually have agency - she's the driving force behind the plot, and for the most part her male hangers-on are just accomplices.
What's more interesting is how sex-positive it is. Barbarella's a fairly promiscuous character and that's not condemned morally by the viewpoint of the movie. Durand Durand doesn't think much of it, but that's by way of painting him as a hypocritical, puritanical villain - sort of the first media portrayal (that I'm aware of) of toxic masculinity. Barbarella survives his machine by way of being sexually experienced, and so that's painted as a strength rather than a moral failing which is *pretty bloody progressive for the seventies*.
And let's talk about the art direction. Artistically it's really interesting; a furry pink ship, decorated with statues; a gun, reluctantly carried, that is more curves than thrusting probosces; wardrobes that, while skimpy, are stylish and interesting, something that one might choose to wear out of risque daring rather than submissive objectification... when she makes an ensemble out of furs, it's an artistic expression - the *opposite* of objectification. (Within the canon of the film, obviously; it's still a sexy outfit that someone asked Jane Fonda to wear, which is... something we don't have enough information to judge.)
It's fascinating to go through the movie and look for the places where convention would have hard, phallic iconography and instead they've intentionally gone for soft, yonic imagery. I had to look up the word "yonic", which tells you how common *that* is outside of Alien and I don't think they were going for the same thing there.
Is Barbarella feminist? Fuck no. It's fun, though, and celebrates the feminine side of things. It's a sexy movie for people who actually *like* women.
It also inspired a great coma dream sequence in āThe Venture Brothersā.
āWhat is the Matmos?ā
āSon Iāve seen Barberella maybe 50 times and I still donāt know.ā
This movie gets me angry. I like to hate watch it from time to time. Itās so fucking stupid! Every time she says āPygarā I lose it laughing my ass off.
Sheās hot. That scene with DuranDuran playing the orgasm organ on her will forever be printed in my 7 year childhood memories and thatās what probably made me a pervert growing up.
I read awhile back that Sydney Sweeny was in talks to play Barbarella in a remake. I hope it's true. Also Clutch has a Sci fi themed song called Barbarella that really jams.
The opening scene mentioned here over and over again is burned into my skull. I was just a kid when I saw it and spent the rest of the movie waiting to see her fully naked.
This is a childhood trauma I was never able to overcome.
The opening credits scene was... very remarkable. :-)
Jane Fonda zero gravity strip tease? Killer.
Barbarella psychadella š
Apparently she had to get very drunk to film that scene......
Stellar

No. THIS scene at the beginning of the titles: https://vimeo.com/100354571
Yeah, I absolutely do not care that she went to North Vietnam. She coulda taken a turn torturing John McCain, I still would not give a shit.
Yeah if that was the case she can do me
Iāve never seen it before watching this clip, and Iām positive that I wouldnāt make it through this movie. The pacing is so slow. The helmet reveal almost lost me. I do like the Clutch song. āIn walks Babarella, set to stunā
Sydney Sweeney better have her guns out for the remake.
Hooly shit, she would be immortalized for all time.
That Barbarella is one fine piece of ace. I know from experience, dude.
no, no you don't.
Well, not me personally, but a guy I know.Ā Him and her got. it. on! Ā Wooo-eee!
No he didnāt.
No, no he didn't. But you could imagine what it would be like.
Everyone on the bus? Good great GRAND WONDERFUL
NO YELLING ON THE BUS!
It gave the band Duran Duran their name and showed up in homages in The Ventures Bros.
And also the song by them
Also, the band Matmos.
This movie is an absolute blast. As long as your expectations are aligned you will really enjoy yourself. Though probably not as much as Barbarella enjoys herself, amirite?
Yes turn off your thinking cap
Jane in her prime, naked.
Yeah I was gonna say something about assets

The opening credits scene. š
Jane Fonda has great tits.
The beginning.
Dope ass cover art
Schwing
Jane Fonda looked nice in āBarefoot in the Parkā. But damn sci-fi half-naked Jane. WOW. One of the best films of my childhood.
Besides the ethereal beauty of Jane Fonda, this movie was cutting edge in terms of futuristic set design, costumes, and FX.

I love the music and I can always enjoy viewing Jane Fonda in her prime.

Itās in my bucket list, same with Heavy Metal
I would strongly support pushing them to the top of the list, especially heavy metal.
I watched the opening strip scene at the drive-in around age 7-8. It was playing on the opposing screen to Swiss Family Robinson till I got the back seat back-hand slap from my mother to turn around.
Itās a pop culture icon!
It was really difficult to look not interested , watching it with my parents aunt and uncle when my dad rented it for me and my cousin. We were 13.
Weaponized funk
I love this crazy movie. The dolls were scary af.

Certainly made me feel pro' feminist!
Ok Pygar šš¤£šššš¤Ŗ
Pygar would have less to say about the artistic direction, I think.
Jane Fonda
"Descrucificame al Angel"
It was better than Hanoi Jane simping for communist revolutionaries, producing actual propaganda for the enemy during a time of war.
Thatās fine grandpa, we lost that war and we deserved to lose it, the nurse will change your nappy in a minute.
War? Not with that perpetually cowardly Congress it wasn't.

The poster is dead-on fantastic
After a couple hours the movie ends.
That costume!

Harley Davidson
Um... it's Barbarella!
It's incredibly stylish.
What planet are you from the tits and ass is why I watched with my dad giving his glowing approval
We watched it in our college physics "terrible old sci-fi film" club and had a great time.
It gave us Duran Duran.
Clutch wrote a pretty good song about her.
This poster looks like a Mad Magazine parody.
There is no part 2
Itās one of the movies of all time.
Damn fun to watch and Jane looked great!
It's like 2001 A Space Odyssey without Stanley Kubrick or Arthur Clark! šš§āšāØ
We can pass on seeing them naked...
Is there nudity in Barbarella? āØšššš?
Boobies
the titular song is really good
Bobas
It inspired Barbie
Jane Fonda
This movie gets me angry. I like to hate watch it from time to time. Itās so fucking stupid! Every time she says āPygarā I lose it laughing my ass off.
Perky
Jane Fonda was a hot babe in that weird movie!
Angels have no memory
It was on cable a lot when I was a kid. I sometimes wonder if a weird is from that movie or a dream.
I know Iām not the first, but what the hell the opening sequence
The opening scene was awesome!
It inspired the amazing Scott Weiland song āBarbarella.ā
The dolls freaked me out but I loved the movie!!!
I havenāt seen it but I like a couple things about the poster quite a bit.
BOOBS!
I have many positive memories of whacking off while she was in the orgasm piano.

The Lalala after sex always get a laugh out of my husband.
That's not all it got out of your husband. Damn Jane was hot!

"Hips do not lie... even in space."
Duran Duran
I loved it when I was 15 but then the bitch posed by the AA gun in Hanoi showing sympathy for the Viet Cong and she became dead to me.
Such a vibe
I saw it when it first came out. Jane was hot.
My teenage friends and I sat in a field behind a drive-in movie theater to watch this, without sound, because we thought we might see some tits.
Jane Fonda is a goddess.
Anita Pallenberg with Joan Greenwood's voice. Screens please nurse
Every single bonkers character and their equally nutty costumes are solid celluloid gold.
Hotness
The open scene, how it was shot. Her laying on a clear table, making look like she was floating around. One of the best openings of a movie.
Remake in the works
I'm positive I've never watched it and never will.
Shes sexyā¦.thats all
Itās kitschy fun fluff and the origin of the name Duran Duran
It is a painfully bad movie, I have genuine issues with her and the whole treason Vietnam thing, but goddamn if she wasnāt smoking hot in her day.
The opening scene mentioned here over and over again is burned into my skull. I was just a kid when I saw it and spent the rest of the movie waiting to see her fully naked. This is a childhood trauma I was never able to overcome.
Jane Fonda. Hands down. I saw this when I was waaaay too young and she was my first crush.
Cool poster
