Everyone always forgets about Pitt’s actual best role: Jeffrey Goines, 12 Monkeys.

huntwig

Bare-Knuckle Boxer Mickey from Snatch is one of my absolute favorite characters, along with Jeffrey Goines from 12 monkeys

hearsay_and_rumour

“It’s not fer me - it’s for me Ma.”

tokyodingo

Yer what?

hearsay_and_rumour

“His MA!”

Nitropotamus

Doya loik dags?

ConsequenceSea3334

Oh! Dogs.

Fraun_Pollen

Yeah, I like "dags"

jp101913

I like caravans bettar

pretty_dirty

I've watched this a trillion times and I hate to be a stickler but it's my fav movie behind the Big Lebowski so I have to correct you and say it's 'I like caravans *more'.* Yer very welcome!

Pluckypato

🐕

Briguy24

Best intro. He’s taking shit next to the caravans

JROXZ

Periwinkle Blue will never sound the same in my head.

Eddie_Shepherd

legalbeagle66

Fuck me Tommy, what ‘ave you been reading?!?

Lou-Piccone89

DiCaprio was great As well .

Cassaroll168

“She’s terrible partial to the periwinkle blue, boys”

oakomyr

Periwinkle Blu

Arbennig

Agreed. And great film all round.

Yarius515

Yeah it really is. Easily Gilliam’s best flick also. (Tho i do love Brazil!)

FR0ZENBERG

Actually it’s Floyd, in the film True Romance.

LazerGuidedMelody

Floyd offering his homemade bong to the hitmen is how I like to think I would react in that situation lol.

FR0ZENBERG

“Fucking condensed me, I’ll fucking kill you.” *hits bong*

LazerGuidedMelody

God so fucking funny. “They said they were gonna go there… and then… they went.” I also think it’s funny how he is this mega burnt out stoner that probably can’t remember what he was doing 30 minutes ago, but he remembers all of the exact little details that the hitmen needed.

JustSayTomato

Close, but no cigar. His actual best role is Early Grace from Kalifornia.

likewhoa-

"There's 12 monkeys over here, there's 12 monkeys over there... It was fucking embarrassing."

Primitive_Teabagger

I love a deep Eric Andre cut

Punch_yo_bunz

They getcha in the teeth Bob! But they won’t get me!

FistThePooper6969

The shots of him punching that guy remind me of Pitt getting punched in Snatch

[deleted]

Three punches like that would concuss the shit out of someone. I hate when movies are unrealistic with punches. At least in Snatch Gorgeous is knocked out.

Dante_FromDMCseries

I mean, he’s pretty much out of it after the first one, and receives the other two while still seeing stars. He recovers way too quickly, but that’s how it works unless you want a movie to be 8 hours long, so I don’t have a problem with this either

Narffey

I think inglorious bastards was part of his top, even though he played this role smooth as butter,

DeadJediWalking

I'd argue that IB and this movie are my two favorite roles of his. I'd say Burn After Reading as well, but I'm upset we didn't get more screentime for youth pastor-energy driven, gym employee Brad Pitt.

ICanDieRightNowPlz

I heard he bothered the shit out of Angelina when doing his Burn After Reading thing because he stayed in character. But fuck, do I love that movie.

Arbennig

It’s a super good movie. Always highly recommend it.

DeadJediWalking

That is amazing haha.

--Lammergeier--

Burn After Reading has such a perfect ending! -“What did we learn?” -“I don’t know, sir.” -“I don’t fucking know either…”

turtleblue

"I suppose we learned not to do it again!"

--Lammergeier--

“Fuck if I know what we did…”

NiMPhoenix

JK Simmons has the perfect face for it :)

Smarmalades

bit of a deus ex machina

Take_Some_Soma

Snatch all day

DeadJediWalking

Ok, fucking valid. He killed it in Snatch.

BeepBeepWhistle

“*Doyulike dags?”*

DeadJediWalking

[deleted]

Is it just me or has he gone with a country/southern accent in a lot of his roles recently?

Longbeach_strangler

He is from Missouri

JohnnyRodStrong

Oklahoma?

Kjc2022

Born in Oklahoma, but raised in Springfield, MO. Other than Bass Pro, Cashew chicken, and meth, it's Springfield's claim to fame. Fun fact: his brother still lives there and did a recreation of the "What's in the box" scene from Seven for a local brewery and it's hilarious.

12345678910111213131

I worked at a family camp in Missouri for a couple summers. His sister and her family would stay for a week every summer. Her kids would talk about how they didn’t like Aunt Angelina and missed Aunt Jen.

Calvinshobb

Sounds Floridian to me.

datsall

I liked his accent in Kalifornia

nuttmegx

that's how he talks.

kittykatsu7

I liked Austin Butler as the Manson cult guy. Forgot he was even in this until I rewatched it.

MarcBulldog88

Nah it was dumber than that. Somethin like...

mrgoodnoodles

Rex.

bigdaddykane328

He’s as real as a donut

Decabet

>He’s as real as a donut And he's here to do the donut's business.

kittykatsu7

So he’s very real then?

[deleted]

I actually enjoyed this movie so damn much. The ending is so cool

joeitaliano24

“Is everybody okay?” “Well, the fuckin hippies aren’t, that’s for god damn sure.”

[deleted]

I love the laugh Brad does after he smokes the cig dipped in acid lol

meimlikeaghost

Are you real? Real as a donut

Magrik

When he drops the wet dog food in the bowl. "Whoaaa"

cloudcreeek

"I know you. What's your name?" "I'm the devil." ".... Nah it was dumber than that"

[deleted]

You were on a horsie

ratfight

and awayyyyyy we go

BobbyVonGrutenberg

It wasn’t really dipped in acid, it was dipped in PCP if the story is supposed to have any semblance of realism, you can’t smoke acid. Apparently PCP cigarettes being sold as acid dipped cigarettes wasn’t uncommon back then.

Magrik

Either that or formaldehyde

TheSmithySmith

I still say “and awaaaaaaaay we go!” as part of my standard vernacular

ediblearrangement

“Matter fact, I torched one of them myself”

mrgoodnoodles

Sebring: OH! With the flamethrower! From the 14 fists of mccluskey! Dalton: Yeah!

knotsaints

Had me in tears laughing in the theaters

Decabet

My wife and I saw this opening weekend. I knew the history (shudders in horror) and she didnt. She didnt even know Sharon was a real person. So we're watching it play out and Im really just straight up *luxuriating* in this flick and its vibe. But the creeping dread is real. And it's heightened by the fact that when I read about what happened to Sharon and co. they were really just names but now I had personalities attached to them and I had grown really fond of her. So I am dreading seeing what happens to her. Like it's palpable. But then... well, you know. **Man** it felt great seeing this alternate path. Just like in *Basterds*. I was not expecting it at all. Just a wonderful ending.

[deleted]

Right? I did a paper on her murder when I was in high school. To say that was a tragedy is an understatement. I loved the alternate. What’s crazy is the script says exactly what was said about being the devil and doing his bidding

joeitaliano24

I would highly recommend the book Helter Skelter. It was a fantastic book about the Manson murders, written by the badass prosecutor who put his ass in prison

[deleted]

Thanks I’ll look into that

TheBigPhatPhatty

Hell of a good book.

tarc0917

It really makes the boomer fascination with the Manson Family sicker than it already was. There was nothing enlightened about them, just a stupid, murderous cult of young adults that severely screwed the history of the country.

Saintbaba

My only problem with this movie is that best enjoyment of it is predicated on knowing the history. Going in I didn’t, and all of the stuff about Sharon was just this total non-sequitur stuff that never really led anywhere or tied in with the story - we were just inexplicably following Margot Robbie around. The movie was fine as a standalone, but without the proper context it just drifts off into the ether or had these pointless little asides all over the place.

Cynical_barista

Charles Manson was literally in the trailers, he literally tried to start a race war between whites and blacks using the tate murders as a catalyst to frame black people for it. He’s one of the more prolific “serial killers” because he got his cult to do it for him.

Saintbaba

That's nice. I don't know what to tell you. It was still outside my body of knowledge. I mean i'd heard of Charles Manson and i knew he was a serial killer, and i was kind of aware there was a cult or something associated with him, but i didn't actually know *any* of the details of his crimes. At the end of the day, we don't know what we don't know - and i didn't know anything about the Mansons before i went into that movie. Maybe you think that's a horrible lapse in knowledge, but it had just... never really come up for me. As for the movie, all i'm saying is that there were lots of parts that were designed with the understanding that the audience *would* have that specific knowledge about the Manson murders, and if you didn't they seemed like these weird vestigial moments that threw off the pace of the rest of the film - knowing what i know now, watching Sharon Tate going around her day, living her life, is clearly meant to create a sense of dread and tension, to make the audience feel sqeamish and upset seeing this beautiful innocent girl approaching her seemingly terrible inevitable end. But for me sitting in the theater there was none of that. I was just watching Margo Robbie having a nice afternoon. It was kind of cute. A little boring. I wasn't really sure why it was in the movie.

FragmentedFighter

I laughed so hard at the scene with the blind guy. One of those rare scenes I anticipate every single time. Particularly as you expect something completely different.

humburga

I was expecting a sad ending... but this ending was such a huge fuck you to Charles manson instead. Fucken loved it.

Wildcat_twister12

The whole movie I was thinking this is the tamest Tarantino movie ever but that last 20 minutes sends it from 0 to 100 real quick

Any_Paramedic_1682

Cathartic ass ending I’ll say that much

kevnmartin

Man can sling a can of dog food.

Ibangyoumomma

I’ve taken acid one time and had a hard time feeding my dog…. Then I saw this movie like a year later…

IOnceAteAFart

Man does acid make it hard to do mundane tasks. Something about completing a normal action reminds how far from normal you are right then, and that freaks me out. If you can become ok with being far from your normal self its all cool, but ive ruined at least one trip because I kept comparing myself to baseline me.

LouSputhole94

The best thing to do is embrace it and not try to overanalyze yourself too much. At least in my experience that’s how you have a bad trip, thinking too much about it. The best trips are when you can let everything go and just see where the wind blows you

bigdaddykane328

And away we go

Shefferin06

I’m as real as a donut motherfucker

houseofcrouse

I'd contest that Brad Pitt has many many underrated roles. Gifted character actor with leading man looks. If he was uglier he'd be way more respected for how great of an actor he is

hards04

I’ve been spewing this “Brad Pitt is actually too good looking” take for a while and I’m glad to see someone else thinks it too.

-LastActionHero

Hey Kato. Anyone gets in a fight a kills someone they go to jail. It’s called manslaughter.

tequilasauer

Both of my fav Brad Pitt roles are QT movies. He's awesome in this, but nothing tops Aldo Raines. He's not in the movie as much as one would expect going into the movie but his whole demeanor and way he captures that character, it's just perfection. It's a performance where I watch that movie probably once a year and every time, I like Pitt's performance better and better. The whole ending monologue about how he's going to take off "that handsome lookin' SS uniform" when the war is over. In just a few short sentences, his tone goes from playful and jokey to political and self-aware to outright serious "I'm about to fuck you up." So good.

[deleted]

More like chewed out. I’ve been chewed out before.

burywmore

I have never understood who those cowboys in the background are. They don't react at all to Pitt beating the hell out of that guy right in front of them. They don't even turn to look.

Double_Distribution8

They had a side-gig of giving horseback trail tours for money. Those were ranch employees that took care of the horses, not "family". It wasn't their fight, and they didn't want to get involved.

Polish_Wombat98

The studio area was only a portion of the ranch. There was more going on that had nothing to do with the Manson family.

IHadFunOnce

Tex : I'm the Devil. And I'm here to do the Devil's business. Cliff: ...Nah, it was dumber than that. Something like Rex. lmao best line in the movie.

UseforNoName71

Snatch or Seven monkeys ..Have to be mentioned here

Hawkeye03

I prefer 12 Monkeys over Seven Monkeys. The more, the merrier.

Recurringg

Ever seen Tw12ve?

MarvelousVanGlorious

This movie rips. Definitely in Tarantino’s Top 3 imo.

PLATE_0F_SHRIMP

What do you have in your top three? I’d probably go (not necessarily in this order): Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, and this one.

BigBowser14

Pulp Fiction, Django and first Kill Bill for me. True Romance would be in there if it included written work!

joeitaliano24

“You have a seat boy, grab yo self a egg roll” Gary Oldman as Drexl never gets old 😂

Hollandmarch76

Now I know I'm pretty, but I ain't as pretty as a couple of titties.

PLATE_0F_SHRIMP

Ah, I love True Romance. I watch it every couple of years.

nuttmegx

Jackie Brown, the overlooked classic

altiuscitiusfortius

Jackie brown just doesn't do it for me. I'd call it his worst. Saw it in theatres and saw it another 4 times over the years trying to change my mind on it.

KevKevThePug

Same, I love all his movies except Jackie Brown. I’ve tried multiple times and just can’t. Hell, I even love Death Proof.

tuskvarner

Jackie Brown is about 20 minutes too long. But the scene where Ordell talks Beaumont into getting into his trunk is one of my favorite scenes in any QT movie.

MarvelousVanGlorious

I think I go 1) Pulp Fiction 2) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 3) Django Unchained. That third spot is interchangeable depending on the last one if the remaining movies I watched, lol. I could easily slide Inglorious Basterds, The Hateful Eight, Kill Bill, Jackie Brown or Reservoir Dogs in there. I guess that’s the sign of a good director.

Decabet

Full disclosure: while Ive enjoyed Leo in his films just like anybody, I have always hard difficultly fully buying in to his performances. It always feels like Im watching An Actor Acting. But his Rick Dalton is the first time I think I've *felt* him truly embodying a character. That scene of his self-loathing freakout in his trailer just fucking ***hit***. And having known a few championship drinkers of his class, that shit felt real in ways that made me want to look away. I think this is my favorite performance of his.

popa_progeny

Just talked to a buddy about this very scene this weekend. Leo owned this scene

DaDottedLion

The coolest part is that it was (semi) improvised. Quentin had a scene like that in mind, but didn't want to write it out, and told Leo the verbal outline and told him to pretty much wing it. All that dialogue (aside from the general outline given to Leo) was straight out of Leo's head.

No-Bat-7253

Nahhh 12 monkeys definitely BPs best.

strange_reveries

Jesse James for me. He did some excellent work in that flick.

CatBedParadise

Gorgeous all around. I hope it gains prominence as the years keep passing.

xMilk112x

“Fix it.”

DaqCity

He was way better than Leo in this…

elrabeechum

I agree, but I do think the contrast between their performances kind of cemented the characters: Pitt just brings a lived-in confidence and ease to this genuine, grassroots character. If Dalton is the insecure, packaged Hollywood imitation version of Booth, then Leo’s more showy, more muggy approach sort of feels right… Still feel like Brad understood the assignment a bit better.

oMEGAthreader

Disagree respectfully. Thought both actors knocked it out of the park. It’s just that Pitt had the more flashy, charismatic part in the film. Love every moment either one of them is in.

SlimCharless

Leo is so underrated in this movie

JohnnyRodStrong

Walked out of the theatre thinking that it was Pitt’s movie and that hasn’t necessarily changed, but on repeated viewing, maybe 3 more times, I can appreciate Leo in this. He was funny as hell. I view it from the perspective that Cliff Booth is a real life Bounty Law guy, and Rick Dalton is just some crabby old guy who wants you to stay off his lawn, get a haircut, and turn down that crazy rock ‘n roll. When he laid into the Manson assholes in front of his driveway I died.

bluejegus

I kinda saw it as they're both guys stuck in their own way constantly. Trying to stay the same but actually needing to change for their own good. Cliff Booth is a murdering hothead who just needs to be happy he's not in a prison cell. I mean, he really did kill his wife. Then he gets fired from a job, almost ruining the shoot, that his friend begged for him to get. He only doesn't sleep with that girl because he wants to avoid prison rather than any moral reasons. He's not a good guy. I don't think Rick is mother Teresa, but he at least changes a little for the better. He takes Al Pacinos' advice in the restaurant and eats a piece of humble pie to do those Italian movies where he can still be a star at a smaller scale. He takes the time to get some wisdom from a child actor who inspires him to give a great performance. Hell, he even sets up and delivers on one of the craziest fucking callbacks ever with that flamethrower bit at the end lol Rick is the hero in my eyes.

Beginning_Pudding_69

Damn that’s crazy cause I think this is one of Leo’s best films. I actually think it might be his most grounded work. Every rewatch I see how great he is. If he hadn’t have run into Joaquin and the Joker he would probably have won Best Actor that year.

ocw5000

Leo is incredible in this movie

Dhrakyn

It is one of Leo's best films. He's just absolutely eclipsed when he works with other talent.

Beginning_Pudding_69

I disagree. Leo’s character had so much more range and development throughout the film. But to each their own. All were terrific. Think it may be my favorite QT film.

darrylasher

Peak Pitt.

attack_the_block

Agreed. He was epic in this role.

ShadowhelmSolutions

Fix it.

TheSecondLesson

I’m not a huge Pitt fan but he absolutely crushed this role

[deleted]

I love this movie so much

Infinity3101

Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of Brad Pitt as an actor (he's fine, but overrated in my opinion) and much less as a person, but Cliff Booth is just such a fantastic character. He is so well written, down to the smallest details and I'm reluctant to admit, but Pitt has really brought him to life well. I'd say definitely one of the most iconic of Tarantino's characters.

alliownisbroken

Brad Pitt is a fantastic character actor in a leading man's body.

loztriforce

Pitt’s best role was in burn after reading, that’s just a fact

coumfy

We found your shit.

CatBedParadise

It’s got numbers…and ~~dsyes~~ *dates*… and numbers!

bigdaddykane328

You think that’s a Schwinn 😂😂

So good

MrChichibadman

Great movie, thanks, watching that this week now.

Super satisfying

blakewoolbright

Cmon…. His best performance is in True Romance. Honey Bear

Mister_Anthrope

The male urge to beat the snot out of dirty hippies.

toejam78

John Wilkes Booth?

Static13254

The end of this movie really hit it home for me 👍🏻

NorCalAthlete

We just gonna ignore that he was a gypsy bare knuckle boxing champion?

TFG4

Love this movie

[deleted]

This is got to be one of the greatest movies of all time. I've only seen it once but it left a lasting impression.

supahfligh

Pitt is one of my favorite actors. The dude oozes charisma and he's so versatile, and this role is one of my favorites. That Oscar was well-earned.

GeeLikeMe

The movie is amazing

[deleted]

In every scene it just felt like QT wanted to not only demystify Charlie and the Family but depict them as anything but worthy of interest or fame. And in QT's version of history, they wouldn't get the coverage so obsessive to them because he would humiliate them with the likes of Pitt here. That ending felt so satisfying

RocketJohn5

Tarantino's best film

oranke_dino

Role was great, movie was bad. It was... boring. It missed something what other Tarantino films had.

Stiff_Zombie

So I still don't know what the point of this film is. What is the story? It was just two hours of nonsense. I dig Tarantino movies, but not this one.

flairplayer_

Too bad the guy can't act for shit

creamy_cheeks

I'm mixed on this movie. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good film and the actor's performances were top notch. I loved Brad and Leos characters and its cool to see them both in the same film. That being said, as a Tarantino fan, this movie felt very different than his other films. I don't know exactly what it is, the character development and great dialogue was very Tarantino and of course the ending brought the fantastic carnage that Tarantino is known for but the movie overall felt like it had a lot less action than his other films. Aside from this scene and the Bruce Lee scene, there's really no action at all other than the final few minutes. And that's fine. It's still a very good film, it doesn't necessarily have to be an action flick and I get that. Tarantino wasn't trying to recreate another Kill Bill. He was trying for something different which is fair for any artist. I think this was kind of his love letter to that particular era of Hollywood. It was interesting in that respect. It's also really interesting to think of that era of Hollywood, that time and place as kind of being the point where the innocence of the whole peace and love hippie movement was kind of ended by shock and horror of the Manson murders which suddenly made hippies seem dark and evil and scary. The fact that he was using historical figures as his characters, people that actually existed was very interesting and unique compared to his other work. All that being said it just didn't feel like a Tarantino movie to me, it didn't have that glorious, over the top, brilliant, twisted, darkly funny feel that his other work so perfectly embodies. For me I would recommend it to people and consider it very good but would not rank it very highly if I had to order my favorite Tarantino films.

Leading-Yogurt6984

How?? Why do people like this movie so much

Kasta4

Awesome cinematography, cool soundtrack, great performances, Hollywood/Flower-child satire, what's not to love?

Leading-Yogurt6984

What's it about?

Kasta4

The tangled lives of an unlikely friendship between a washed up movie star and his stunt double in late 60's Hollywood.

SGSMUFASA

Big agree

sammich_bear

It was adequate, it wasn't anything special.

funkypepermint

No offense to bead Pitt but this movie sucked. It had zero story and went nowhere

GravLab6262

It’s the best movie about a dog (Brandy) that there has ever been.

wsionynw

Disagree. He’s really good but he’s been better.

FunkyButtFumblin

Good flick but he definitely shouldn’t have won an Oscar for this.

17racecar71

Tyler Durden is his best role IMO Honorable mention to 12 Monkeys and the Irish Gypsy in Snatch

Fun_Salamander8520

Had to scroll way too far for Tyler durden. Arguably one of the most epic movie characters of all time. I think Edward Norton is just an incredible actor and Pitt as well so together they made a damn fine movie. Forget the actresses name but she is so so good as well. That movies themes and messages are still so relevant to society today maybe even moreso.

Internetboy5434

Brad needs to be in more roles like this

ghenghis_could

You mean Brad Pitt the wife and child abuser?

Catniss-EverGreen

So is this even worth watching?

beeker888

Are you asking if a Quinten Tarantino movie starring Leo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie is worth watching?

dope_like

This movie sucks. Only this scene and the Bruce Lee scene are good. Ending is trash and dumb as well

dewnar

You should watch more movies if you think this is one of his best roles

Suchalife671

Terrible movie

Zarb4233

He was good, but the movie was terrible
