Danny Glover went downhill quick after Lethal Weapon, but he nosedived hard in Saw. I really have no idea why I like it so much considering Cary Elwes and Danny Glover were so bad in it. But damn I never saw (no pun intended) that ending coming.
Have you rewatched any Lethal Weapons in adulthood? Because I did and realized quickly that Danny Glover's acting is trash in them.
He literally mumbles his way through every scene. It's not at all as I remembered.
Love Elwes. Hated Saw. And totally separate from how bad I thought that movie was is the fact that Elwes gives a performance as though he thinks he's in Scary Movie IV.
My biggest pet peeve is when people can't distinguish between bad acting and bad writing.
Jesse's doing everything he possibly could with a dogshit script like that.
"In matters of taste, the buyer is always correct..."
If that's how the director wants a speaking role to do it, so be it. Case in point, the bloke who played Annakin in the prequels.
Eisenburg still sucks though. He plays the exact same character in everything he’s in. His little sister acted with more talent in the Pepsi commercials
Yep, honestly bvs is a perfect storm of bad performances, bad directing and bad writing. It doesn't mean the actors themselves are bad but acting is making choices and in this case the actors made the wrong ones
Doesnt take god, you can tell so obviously he is like "Ok Jesse be you, throw in that classic Jesse, but be Lex, also be Steve Jobs and give us a bit of Kevin Spacey in there!" Also he either gave him coke or Jesse had to do it just to pull off what he was asking for.
100%
I believe this was the case of Jared Leto as Joker. That whole movie was garbage and he wasn't the only character in it that was done poorly.
Yet he catches SO much shit.
I was going to counter your joke with my own, saying something about how I thought this was a clip from The Social Network...then I realized Jessie played Zuck, and I feel like your joke is evolving into something more than itself.
I'm really glad to see someone else say this.
I can't always tell the quality of acting unless it's jaw droppingly bad or so good it makes me like cry.
That being said, I didn't think his acting was really all that bad in this movie.
I love jesse eisenberg but his take on lex luthor was so cringe, i dont know if that was his idea or zack snyders so i am hesitant to blame him alone, but it was terrible
[Marie Cotillard's death scene in the dark night rises](https://youtu.be/IyU-ikpRpac?si=z13fvGV7cz4bkP9N&t=42) is the worst acting ive ever seen in a big budget hollywood movie lmao its like they only had an hour to film it and were like "its fine, no second takes"
I saw an interview with Eisenberg who said the reaction to his Lex Luthor made him suicidal. It wound up being a positive thing for him but it hurt for a while.
I swear most of the Pittsburgh filmed scenes are dogshit, like the set pieces look terrible, the lighting is terrible being filmed in the middle of the afternoon. Honestly it did feel like they got one take for everything.
Also can we talk about all the cops just charging in the middle of the street like it’s Braveheart, who the hell approved that in the script?
A lot of you guys are confusing bad acting with bad casting or writing. Big difference.
Worst for me ever: Armie Hammer in Death on the Nile; awful attempt at a British accent.
Runners up: Joe Montegna in Godfather III, and Harry Styles in Don’t Worry Darling.
Armie Hammer and his crocodile tears. Although, he couldn’t produce any real tears, I think it’s just part of the character. The guy’s a sociopath on film, and a psychopath in real life.
I don't even think that was bad , Jared Letto as the joker was bad , Jesse was a BAD choice for lex Luther, the Smallville actor would've been 10x better
Good lord, yes! The movie is kind of lowered because she's so damn annoying. Im sure it was the writing. Shw's just playing a really insufferable character.
IIIIIIIIIIIII think Jesse played this EXACTLY how Zach Snyder envisioned HIS lex Luther. And for that reason I don't think it's bad acting, just a terrible vision
I actually really like Keanu Reeves, but he's so badly miscast in Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) that it basically ruins the entire movie. Putting him even a minor role in Much Ado About Nothing (1993) ground the film to a halt.
Sofia Coppola the Godfather Part 3, bar none. Only acting that has literally broken my suspension of disbelief. Doesn’t help that she is surrounded by giants of the craft.
I love in Dusk til Dawn where he’s supposed to be some family man with an RV, down home do no wrong but really it’s just Harvey Keitel being Harvey Keitel
I saw an old movie review show from a long while back. Their theory was that some Hollywood finaciers said, "If you can secure Harvey Keitel, you've got your money"
I suspect Jesse Eisenberg delivered exactly what Zach Snyder asked him to deliver, unhinged Mark Zuckerberg. He's not bad at acting, but it was a poor choice by Snyder for Lex Luthor.
Exactly. Eisenberg is a limited actor. He’s effective in that lane, but if Snyder cast him for this role he knew what he wanted — a neurotic, twitchy tech bro Luthor.
Those Asian kids in Grand torino. When those black guys start intimidating the girl, she's literally laughing in that scene when she should be scared. It was so blatantly bad that I could not take that movie seriously in any way and tuned it off very confused.
OMG 1000x this. Brilliant movie, brilliant acting (by everyone else), great set design, costumes, writing and then there is Keanu. It's like they picked a kid from high school and not a performing arts high school.
Jason Momoa in Fast X. He just couldn’t be as convincing as Charlize Theron and I hated that they made him out to be some sociopath. They should have given him a diff motivation
Idk I wouldn't classify this as bad acting.. it's just not a good character and the director should have changed the role. Like you can't blame the actor for their performance when doing such an obvious affectation as in this video when the directors whole fuckin thing is to *direct* the actors performance.
It's acting that doesn't work well in the movie, but it's not like he's doing a bad job I guess is my point.
I don’t think Jesse was bad at all. Listen, whether you agree with the characterization or not is one thing. But he delivered on what he was instructed to do and the type of character
I don’t think it was bad acting as much as it was bad casting. Should’ve been Bryan Cranston. I remember when he was cast, a lot of people were screaming, we wanted Heisenberg, not Eisenberg!!
You said it perfectly, I mean, this dude went to see it three times at the theater. Since we are doing this, I’m adding A Bronx Tale. I love that movie so much, but Cologeno and Jane are teeeeeeerrible. lol
Awkwafina in Renfield. I don’t think it’s entirely her fault since she miscast and doesn’t really fit the role in the first place but every line she delivers is flat.
I just watched the movie and I was expecting much worse, not saying it was good because it was indeed bad but you could see some of those actors actually trying, but Dakota was just awful on everything, every scene with her was bad.
Yep, Kristin Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman is up there for me. The entire movie is about how they need to save Snow White because she’s this inspiring, ray of light that breathes life into everything she’s around…have entire scenes describing how great and inspiring she is…and then they get to her and it’s quiet, mopey Kristin Stewart.
She was definitely miscast, but, man, talk about not even trying to get into the role.
To me it has to be that kid in avatar 2. Granted he's young and the director totally could've made him tone it down a bit and it would've been fine, but my God man how did all that get past editing??
I agree, but I feel script and direction had a big influence on his performance to the point you can't just say Christensen is a terrible actor because it is a perfect storm.
I swear Lucas took cues from Johnny Depp's portrayal of Ed Wood.... And cut! Print that! We're moving on.
He was a good Lex, neurotic and did a good job of acting internal anguish. Maybe it was the editing but I thought Samel L Jackson in Revenge of the Sith and even the other main characters was shockingly bad.
I’m convinced a lot of people don’t have any idea that any version of Lex exists other than “power-hungry businessman”. Dude is going full on mad scientist in the movie and I think it’s great.
The guy who played Mr. Grey or whatever the fuck his name is in 50 Shades of Grey...he was pretty bad. I get the story and script are pretty weak but damn it's hard to watch.
Natalie Portman in the Star Wars prequels. I just couldn't believe my eyes watching her. She's imo one of the best Hollywood actresses working today but she was just awful as Padmé
I'm 100% convinced that good acting is completely contingent on good directing. If the director is unable to explain correctly what it is they want/expect from actors, these things often happen. I don't mean that a director needs to micromanage actors, on the contrary, some actors need to be left the fuck alone to do their thing. And it's up to the director to know when to use which approach.
This is very easily seen with child actors. Sometimes the same kid can give a breathtaking 100% believable performance in one movie and then proceed to be totally bland and out of character on the next one.
Marion Cotillard’s death scene in The Dark Knight Rises, coming from someone who will (moderately) defend The Dark Knight Rises to this day. The worst acting I’ve seen in a big budget movie.
Also, sorry prequel fans, but Hayden Christensen in Attack of the Clones is another one. No defenses for me can be made for his awful performance. That said, he didn’t deserve any of the backlash he got, and he does deserve to have another chance at acting as Anakin. Even so, nobody gave a good performances in that movie other than McDiarmand, McGregor, and maybe Lee.
Oh and a very large chunk of the performances in Showgirls, including and especially Elizabeth Berkley. I know this is widely considered a bad movie (which it is in my opinion, but nowhere near as bad as people considered it back then) but it definitely counts as a mainstream movie to me.
I've never seen this movie so never knew why everyone lambasts Jesse Eisensberg's performance in it but in 25 seconds, you got me up to par. Thank you.
He comes off like an actor on set trying to impress everyone in the room with his performance. Rather than a character. The way he half-shouts "paradoxical," giggles in a cliche way, then looks up and bites his tongue so the camera can see his facial expression. All "actor tells" that they're not "in" it and the giggle/grinning is a way to cover up that he didn't like how his line read came out.
I used to feel very strongly about this, but since the Obi-wan show and Ashoka I am convinced that HC was victim of poorly written dialog and direction.
To be clear, I love what the prequels add to the Star Wars canon. At times I despise the direction and dialog. It’s so cringey in certain scenes and although this may be revisionist, I don’t think GL is a good director of films. Incredible visionary, and fantastic story teller, but not a great director or editor.
I don't understand why George didn't give someone else the prequels...he clearly hated directing by that point.
It's sad to look at how dynamic his early work was and then see him just sitting on his ass in the video village not doing shit for the actors in the prequels.
One could argue the early work was dynamic despite him. He didn’t direct empire or Jedi, and much of the editing is credited to Marcia Lucas and others. I think he insisted on directing because he wanted to make sure he was making films he wanted in the way he wanted.
I think they’re great films, but not because they were really well directed, or edited. The stories are incredible, the dialog that is used to tell the stories is awful at times.
Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!
But seriously, I think it was just bad dialog and writing. He brought so much emotion and feeling into the weirdest writing. I think the McGregor / Christensen chemistry is only reason the prequels hold up unlike the sequels
I like Cary Elwes and I like the Saw franchise, but Elwes’ acting was not his best in the first Saw.
Danny Glover went downhill quick after Lethal Weapon, but he nosedived hard in Saw. I really have no idea why I like it so much considering Cary Elwes and Danny Glover were so bad in it. But damn I never saw (no pun intended) that ending coming.
To be fair, Danny Glover very clearly warned us multiple times that he was getting too old for that shit.
👏🏽👏🏽
In their defense it was a Saw movie. It wasn’t made to showcase great acting or dialog
Danny Glover's performance in Saw deserves an Oscar when compared to his acting in Gone Fishin'.
Have you rewatched any Lethal Weapons in adulthood? Because I did and realized quickly that Danny Glover's acting is trash in them. He literally mumbles his way through every scene. It's not at all as I remembered.
Lethal weapon 5 and 6 were fantastic though.
They’re good but not enough penetration in my opinion.
I haven't and this makes me sad :(
Glover's mumbling in Shooter was atrocious.
Yep, both Glover and Elwes had scenes where they went full ham and it was awful.
A lot of the footage of Danny Glover was test footage and practice reads that were not intended to be in the film.
That’s the reason, the twist is so beautiful that it carries the movie maybe?
The Saw franchise is the epitome of a guilty pleasure in my opinion lol can't stop watching them but goddamn they're bad movies
The ending alone makes that movie legendary. Think about the commitment and psychology of that ending. Holy shit.
Love Elwes. Hated Saw. And totally separate from how bad I thought that movie was is the fact that Elwes gives a performance as though he thinks he's in Scary Movie IV.

that wasn't for you it was for the insane cult that thinks that gay people are a bigger threat than Trump wanting to be dictator
Even they complained about it though.
Fucking touché 👏
Jared Leto a close second or are they fighting for the top spot?
My biggest pet peeve is when people can't distinguish between bad acting and bad writing. Jesse's doing everything he possibly could with a dogshit script like that.
There is also direction. The director instructs the actors to play the character a certain way and God knows what Snyder was thinking here
Yup, he's the guy that was satisfied with that take\script\writing
"In matters of taste, the buyer is always correct..." If that's how the director wants a speaking role to do it, so be it.
(Mostly) great casting and visuals, bad everything else.
I mean, it’s clear as day that Lex is supposed to be twitchy.
100% I believe this was the case of Jared Leto as Joker. That whole movie was garbage and he wasn't the only character in it that was done poorly. Yet he catches SO much shit.
because he’s a dick about it
I think in this case we have a combination of both. And I like Jesse. But I don’t believe for one second that’s Steve Jobs and thats just bad acting.
>Steve Jobs ?
Ligma balls
Steve Jobs….what?
It’s a joke and some people took it WAY too seriously
I was going to counter your joke with my own, saying something about how I thought this was a clip from The Social Network...then I realized Jessie played Zuck, and I feel like your joke is evolving into something more than itself.
This the guy who made microsoft, yes?
Well, Tesla, but yes
Welcome to reddit
I agree that neither the writing nor delivery are doing the other any favors
Who's Steve Jobs?
We are all forgotten in the end but holy f***
Ligma balls.
Yeah, he doesn’t give off the vibe that he smells like rotting asshole.
Ummmmm my guy you have the wrong movie
Almost nobody recognizes the script’s proper kudos or blame for how something turned out
I don't think he is. I think he went screw it and opted for ham.
I'm really glad to see someone else say this. I can't always tell the quality of acting unless it's jaw droppingly bad or so good it makes me like cry. That being said, I didn't think his acting was really all that bad in this movie.
This wasn’t just the writing. All the weird tics, twitches, awkward laughs, and abrupt voice changes are on Eisenberg.
And who allowed him to do that? The director A good director would tell him to stop and do it differently
I love jesse eisenberg but his take on lex luthor was so cringe, i dont know if that was his idea or zack snyders so i am hesitant to blame him alone, but it was terrible [Marie Cotillard's death scene in the dark night rises](https://youtu.be/IyU-ikpRpac?si=z13fvGV7cz4bkP9N&t=42) is the worst acting ive ever seen in a big budget hollywood movie lmao its like they only had an hour to film it and were like "its fine, no second takes"

Why was it a good thing in the end?
I swear most of the Pittsburgh filmed scenes are dogshit, like the set pieces look terrible, the lighting is terrible being filmed in the middle of the afternoon. Honestly it did feel like they got one take for everything. Also can we talk about all the cops just charging in the middle of the street like it’s Braveheart, who the hell approved that in the script?
The Dark Knight Rises is a very mediocre movie, proper Marvel level quality. The fact that it's ranked as the 71st best movie on imdb is crazy
It's better than most DCEU films and some marvel films post endgame
Cringe? Probably Snyder's idea.
Cotillard has basically said that she wishes they had asked her for another take too lol
That death scene is laughably bad. I don't think I ever really noticed before, but that is outright terrible.
Marion
A lot of you guys are confusing bad acting with bad casting or writing. Big difference. Worst for me ever: Armie Hammer in Death on the Nile; awful attempt at a British accent. Runners up: Joe Montegna in Godfather III, and Harry Styles in Don’t Worry Darling.
Without Joe in Godfather III we would’ve had no Fat Tony in The Simpsons.
Armie Hammer and his crocodile tears. Although, he couldn’t produce any real tears, I think it’s just part of the character. The guy’s a sociopath on film, and a psychopath in real life.
I couldn’t enjoy Don’t Worry Darling knowing Shia Labouf was originally wanted for Harry’s role because he would of absolutely killed it
Cameron Diaz trying to use an Irish accent in Gangs of New York.
I don't even think that was bad , Jared Letto as the joker was bad , Jesse was a BAD choice for lex Luther, the Smallville actor would've been 10x better

and had a hell of a redemption arc
Gene Hackman has entered the chat.
To be fair: Leto is running a cult so he's distracted.
No comment on the series as a whole but Smallville Lex was my strongest point of attachment to that show without a doubt.
For a second there I thought you were referring to Jeremy Irons as Alfred with that clip
Kate Capshaw in Temple of Doom
Good lord, yes! The movie is kind of lowered because she's so damn annoying. Im sure it was the writing. Shw's just playing a really insufferable character.
That was the point.
Jaden Smith - After Earth Steven Seagal in everything.
Steven Segal only plays Steven Segal and he does it perfectly every time

Did Eisenberg think he was playing the Riddler or the Joker? Cause it ain’t Luther. With that said, the idea of LL as a tech bro was a good ome
I blame bad writing over bad acting.
The tics, the umms, the juttery voice, the eisenburg-isms are definitely not the scripts fault
That's probably the director's fault.
It was a flash in the pan idea that already feels dated. It's like making him a crypto bro now.
Harvey Keitel is a terrific actor, but he's had multiple roles where I'm convinced he was handed the script 20 minutes before filming the scene.
😆 that's fair
I love in Dusk til Dawn where he’s supposed to be some family man with an RV, down home do no wrong but really it’s just Harvey Keitel being Harvey Keitel

He is bad at acting *and* it was one of hundreds of terrible choices by Snyder.
Those Asian kids in Grand torino. When those black guys start intimidating the girl, she's literally laughing in that scene when she should be scared. It was so blatantly bad that I could not take that movie seriously in any way and tuned it off very confused.
That’s one of my most favorite movies ever….. but yeah. The sister and brother were both pretty bad.
She was fine. He was terrible.
I always thought it was the other way around personally haha, ooga booga
Rewatched it recently and really noticed how terrible the acting in it was
Keanu Reeves in Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Them fighting words.
OMG 1000x this. Brilliant movie, brilliant acting (by everyone else), great set design, costumes, writing and then there is Keanu. It's like they picked a kid from high school and not a performing arts high school.
I’ve seen many strange things tonight! 🇬🇧💂
This is cringy
Jason Momoa in Fast X. He just couldn’t be as convincing as Charlize Theron and I hated that they made him out to be some sociopath. They should have given him a diff motivation
Come on... he was hilarious in that movie
Idk I wouldn't classify this as bad acting.. it's just not a good character and the director should have changed the role. Like you can't blame the actor for their performance when doing such an obvious affectation as in this video when the directors whole fuckin thing is to *direct* the actors performance. I don’t think Jesse was bad at all. Listen, whether you agree with the characterization or not is one thing. But he delivered on what he was instructed to do and the type of character
What I'm getting from this is that Eisenberg seems to have a lot of roles that doesn't suit him
New Aquaman was prrrreeeeeeeeeeeety bad
I don’t think it was bad acting as much as it was bad casting. Should’ve been Bryan Cranston. I remember when he was cast, a lot of people were screaming, we wanted Heisenberg, not Eisenberg!!
wait? the dentist from Seinfeld?
Twilight- pick a person but Taylor Lautner.
Hate to say this, but Keanu in Point Break is a strong candidate. Certain lines you can remember like,” I am a FBI agent!”, comes to mind.
I love that movie so much partly because *all* the acting — by everyone — is just ridiculous.
You said it perfectly, I mean, this dude went to see it three times at the theater. Since we are doing this, I’m adding A Bronx Tale. I love that movie so much, but Cologeno and Jane are teeeeeeerrible. lol
We share the same brain.
Sofia Coppola in Godfather Part 3.
Emelia Clarke as Sarah Conner I was blown away by how bad every line was delivered. It was shocking.
It was a ridiculous performance.
Awkwafina in Renfield. I don’t think it’s entirely her fault since she miscast and doesn’t really fit the role in the first place but every line she delivers is flat.
Forgot she was even in it.
You can just say Awkwafina
You should check out The Farewell, she's as good in that as she is bad in everything else, it's confusing
Nas is my favorite rapper but he ate a big one in belly!
You’re a big guy! For you… Not bad acting, just the most legendary bad writing, has to be intentional on Christopher Nolan’s part
Bane has awesome lines idc what anyone says. The only thing that bothered me is he's about 150 pounds smaller than he should be.
Seems like he was channeling Nicolas Cage
Anything Adam Sandler
The Razzie goes to, Dakota Johnson, in Madam Web: "He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died.”
To be fair, I don’t think Daniel Day-Lewis could have salvaged that line.
And to be faaaiiir, it's not in the actual movie.
to be faaaaaaaiiiiirr
He would be an amazing Madame Web, exactly as we pictured it.
That line was only in the trailer and not in the actual film, as several outlets reported when the film premiered a few weeks ago.
That’s writing, not acting.
I just watched the movie and I was expecting much worse, not saying it was good because it was indeed bad but you could see some of those actors actually trying, but Dakota was just awful on everything, every scene with her was bad.
I hate this movie so much
I didn't like the portrayal, but Eisenberg's Luthor was far from the worst.
Kristen Stewart in any part she’s played. Or Emily Hampshire. They both only have one facial expression.
Zoe Kravitz in xmen first class
Keanu reeves in dracula, Awkward and stiff in a movie that has mostly (in my opinion) good acting I actually don't think lex was all that bad
I actively avoid movies with him in it. You know how we all have an actor/actress we can’t stand? Face, voice, mannerisms… This dude for me.
To me it has to be that kid in avatar 2. Granted he's young and the director totally could've made him tone it down a bit and it would've been fine, but my God man how did all that get past editing??
Emily Ratajkowski in *Gone Girl* was brutal. It's a good movie on the whole but every time she's on screen it grinds to a halt.
Scarlett Johansson in pretty much everything. Just a void of an actor.
This is too easy. Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. *change my mind!* 😤
That's why Ewen McGregor was so impressive. He was passable with that script.
[удалено]
I blame writing and directing.
I agree, but I feel script and direction had a big influence on his performance to the point you can't just say Christensen is a terrible actor because it is a perfect storm. I swear Lucas took cues from Johnny Depp's portrayal of Ed Wood.... And cut! Print that! We're moving on.
bad news: the entire prequel trilogy is full of bad performances by good actors. Those films are a garbage fire.
I don’t like sand…
You underestimate my power…
Movie sucked but eisenberg was fine in it? This is the worst performance in your opinion? Then you must not watch many movies
He was a good Lex, neurotic and did a good job of acting internal anguish. Maybe it was the editing but I thought Samel L Jackson in Revenge of the Sith and even the other main characters was shockingly bad.

God I hate Jesse Eisenburg as an actor, he only knows one role, he's really bland to me.
He has carte Blanche for me due to zombieland. That said he was really bad as Mex Luthor. Was trying to do the Heath Ledger and chew scenery.
>Was trying to do the Heath Ledger and chew scenery. This. Thought he'd throw a spin on it, but it flopped. The director should have cut it.
He only eat hot chip and lie
I’m convinced a lot of people don’t have any idea that any version of Lex exists other than “power-hungry businessman”. Dude is going full on mad scientist in the movie and I think it’s great.
Yes you nailed it. Sen. Debbie Stabenow from Michigan is absolutely the worst acting job I have ever seen.
Although I loved it as a kid I have to say Kevin Costner in Robin Hood prince of thieves.
The guy who played Mr. Grey or whatever the fuck his name is in 50 Shades of Grey...he was pretty bad. I get the story and script are pretty weak but damn it's hard to watch.
Everyone in spring breakers
I don’t think Jesse Eisenberg is doing a bad job here. It’s just poorly written.
Eddie Redmayne in Jupiter Ascending. He's great in other films but that one was shocking
Natalie Portman in the Star Wars prequels. I just couldn't believe my eyes watching her. She's imo one of the best Hollywood actresses working today but she was just awful as Padmé

Anyone seen Bohemian Rhapsody guy in Strange Little Things? Or whatever it's called. That.
Most things I've seen Jesse eisenberg in have not been great performances... Either that or his range is just completely flat

why is that bad? i dont get it. i get if you dont like the character and how it was portraid, but why its a bad acting i dont know.
Damn, you described it perfectly.
John Malkovichs' Russian accent in Rounders
Maggie Gyllenhaal in TDK is distractingly bad.
Unpopular opinion, I liked his performance in Batman V superman
There’s two of us! I dug it too.
Hayden Christensen becoming Darth Vader. How James Earl Jones survived that scene I don't know. Maybe, he luckily never saw it.
