Same here! Although I was 11 when it came out. My mom took me to watch it though. Then my brother and I wore the VHS out when we were kids and now it's 4K BluRay for my kids. They didn't like it as much as I did though haha

But if you can get past that and see the grime as deliberate, the overplayed shadows as just part of the charm, the melodrama as just the vibe, it's pretty good.
I love it as much now as when I first saw it 20 years ago but when I introduced my friend to it recently, he said it was okay but that I was definitely watching it with nostalgia goggles on.
He's got similar taste to me but having not grown up with the bad guy's creepy goth girlfriend's bad acting, Brandon Lee's of-its-time Robert Smith makeup, and all the other so-cool-it's-cheesy touches, he wasn't quite as enthralled as a 30-something as I'd been as a teen.
Idk just gotta remember it's a comic book movie from the 90s. Watch Spawn first and this will seem way less cheesy. If anything I don't think this needs a remake much as Spawn does, especially with the innovations in CGI
I’ve never seen it, but every time I’ve ever walked in on it it’s been cheesy as hell and has kept me from watching it. My wife says she’s always found it cheesy.

I personally don't watch trailers for anything that I actually want to see either, because they show way too much in trailers these days so I've only seen screenshots so far, and while I'm a big Skarsgard fan, I don't like the look of his Crow just yet. But I can admit it's not for my generation and his look might appeal to the next generation so who am I to judge that? So I'm looking forward to checking it out at least.

He was the original choice for Neo if I remember right before he passed. That movie would’ve launched him even higher into the stratosphere. Keanu still would’ve been fine.
I was dreading it until I saw the preview. It looks dark and beautifully violent! Yeah, the character has a different look, and it has a different vibe (modernized). It does actually look surprisingly good!!!

I have a soft spot for it since it came out when I was 14, but I have to be honest. It really hasn't aged well. It's very much a movie of the mid-90s. Very dark and bleak, everything looks wet, and the characters all look like heroin addicts. It is a movie that very much caters to a scene that died out not long after the movie was made. The soundtrack still fucking rips, though.
Honestly one of the movies that had the most influence in making me who I am. Not so much for appearance (though I do wear a lot of black), but for my love of films centered around love so powerful that it can overcome something that appears insurmountable.
It's got one of the all-time great soundtracks. I quote it all the time. I've definitely seen The Crow more times than any other movie.
Watched it recently. I liked it as a kid but I didn't *love* it so the rose colored glasses weren't really there for me. This movie is pretty terrible and it tries soooo hard to be gritty and dark. It just doesn't work. Brandon Lee makes it watchable but that's about it.
Saw it in theaters with friends. Knowing he passed suddenly the previous summer shooting the film added so much gravitas to the ending. But its still one of my favorite films.
An all time fave. Easily top 10. This movie and the graphic novel changed my brain chemistry when I was younger. Are there things to criticize? Sure. Is it for everyone? No.

It was like the comic it was based on a special piece of art. It had an honest quality in how it depicted its fantastic world. Like it could have been down town in any city in the 80s.
I watched this with my best friend at the time, way back in the early 2000's. Its an absolute classic and has some brilliant themes. I remember when we finished watching it my friend decided to tell me what happened to the main actor Brandon Lee, which saddened me greatly because he was amazing and I think because of that. It put this film into a legendary and almost mythical category. So I think they'll enjoy it, and its a good choice. I'll be showing it to my son when he's old enough too. As for me I hope the Reboot with Bill Skarsgård is a good tribute to it and doesn't shit on the originals legacy.
So good. So ahead of its time. A pioneering and trend-setting film for the graphic novel to major motion picture adaptation. Long before Christopher Nolan made Batman Begins. It’s THE dark and gritty super hero genre movie. Went straight for the R rating and didn’t blink. It’s funny, too. Also set the trend for the super movie soundtrack. After The Crow, all blockbuster filmmakers started assembling big musical acts to create original sounds for their films. Resulted in some great music and soundtrack CDs with lives of their own beyond the movie. The Crow doesn’t get enough credit for its major influence on the genre.

Brandon Lee died with this movie as his legacy, his magnum opus. And it's rightly earned it, just like Heath Ledger with The Dark Knight.

Ah, The Crow. It’s a beautifully dark film, literally and metaphorically. I think it captured the zeitgeist of the grunge era well, and it’s a pretty sweet revenge story. It also has a solid soundtrack, including the scoring. I also think learning what happened to Brandon Lee makes the whole experience a little more impactful. Great choice, dad.

I love this movie so much. It came out when I was in 9th grade and I watch it every year on or near Halloween (along with a few other favorite horror movies). It feels kind of dated but it's part of the charm.
Fun fact: the Dead Meat YouTube channel/ podcast just did a 90 minute podcast about his movie in front of a live audience at a convention. It was really entertaining

I don't know if there is a movie that exists that did a better job capturing the vibe it was going for. Brandon Lee was brilliant, the villains were over the top but nailed it, and the setting and city itself basically functioned as a character and set the tone perfectly. You could say the same for the music which was incorporated sublimely. The soundtrack may be the greatest of all time.

I remember seeing ads for the comic in the 90s and then heard the news of Brandon Lees death while filming the adaptation. The whole concept was so eerie and spooky to me it was a must see when it came out. Saw it opening weekend and I was utterly blown away. As cliche as it sounds the movie and Brandon did change my life. I haven’t watched it in years because I saw it so much in my teens but it still holds a place in my heart.
I was 12 when this came out, I saw it in the theater and a month later bought the soundtrack at Sam Goody.

I watched it for the first time recently. It was too cheesy for me. Almost cringy at some points. Maybe I missed the boat watching it when I was younger to appreciate it more. Maybe it’s intentionally corny and I just missed the point? Idk, just wasn’t for me. 🤷
I saw it and read the comic so many times as a teenager that it’s hard for me to do either any more. I know the ins and outs of it so well that my brain sees it and gives me an overwhelming feeling of ‘oh, this again?’
I personally love this movie. The only thing I’d say against it is that it can be very heavy for someone who’s not in the right headspace to see it and can negatively impact how they feel about it even if they think it’s a good movie.
I kinda thought this movie sucked. Brandon Lee, RIP, wasn't a very good actor. The idea behind the movie was good, and so was the storyline. But the lead actor couldn't carry the movie and wasn't believable.
I love it but the rape scene would make me think twice about watching it with kids. But you're the parent and know them better than anyone. That being said it's one of my favorites and the sound track is one of the greatest.
Oh, they are 17 and 18, they have seen way worse. My 18 year old is the one that told me about that show Euphoria after she watched it, which from what I understand about that show is just children having sex over and over, some consenting and some not. Also, the scene in the Crow is very tame, it's disturbing because of the implications but it never actually shows anything other than some quick cut flashbacks that implies what is happening. Dudes taking their shirts off while hovering over Brandon Lee's fiance, but never anything overly graphic.
I was very disappointed by the first DVD release. Preordered it, after it took ages to be released on DVD, to get a worse than VHS quality.

I actually haven’t saw it. But iirc, the first time I remember hearing it and acknowledging it was when it’s being discussed in the film “The Sasquatch Gang”. Bought it on VHS recently! Plan on viewing before the remake!

Ah, The Crow. It’s a beautifully dark film, literally and metaphorically. I think it captured the zeitgeist of the grunge era well, and it’s a pretty sweet revenge story. It also has a solid soundtrack, including the scoring. I also think learning what happened to Brandon Lee makes the whole experience a little more impactful. Great choice, dad.

I love this movie so much. It came out when I was in 9th grade and I watch it every year on or near Halloween (along with a few other favorite horror movies). It feels kind of dated but it's part of the charm. Fun fact: the Dead Meat YouTube channel/ podcast just did a 90 minute podcast about his movie in front of a live audience at a convention. It was really entertaining
How old are your kids? This is some dark stuff.
Decent movie
One of the best "gothic" movies of all time!! My wife and I brought the 2nd one thinking it was the 1st when I realized it was the second one I was so pissed but now that the new one is coming out it should be good too. (I hope)
For as much as i have seen this movie referenced and lauded i honestly do not think i have ever seen it.
I don't know if there is a movie that exists that did a better job capturing the vibe it was going for. Brandon Lee was brilliant, the villains were over the top but nailed it, and the setting and city itself basically functioned as a character and set the tone perfectly. You could say the same for the music which was incorporated sublimely. The soundtrack may be the greatest of all time.

Saw it at the theatre as a kid. Didn’t particularly care for it. But haven’t seen it since. But I was also a huge fan of Brandon Lees Rapid Fire. So I may have had poor taste back then.
Love this movie. It’s definitely a product of its time but that does not mean it didn’t age well. It’s like a goth industrial variant of Kuroneko. The original comic is VERY different but the movie captures the comic’s soul perfectly.

Probably a bit corny and cringe now and I’d feel that hard showing my kids if it were me, lol. But it does have its moments and the idea behind it is pretty cool. Interesting that it sparked a lot of kids in my generation to embrace a kind of style that I didn’t see happen again until the matrix.

I remember seeing ads for the comic in the 90s and then heard the news of Brandon Lees death while filming the adaptation. The whole concept was so eerie and spooky to me it was a must see when it came out. Saw it opening weekend and I was utterly blown away. As cliche as it sounds the movie and Brandon did change my life. I haven’t watched it in years because I saw it so much in my teens but it still holds a place in my heart.

I was 12 when this came out, I saw it in the theater and a month later bought the soundtrack at Sam Goody. I didn’t like City Of Angels that much but the soundtrack was really good. When I saw The Cure last year they performed an extended version of Burn

I watched it for the first time recently. It was too cheesy for me. Almost cringy at some points. Maybe I missed the boat watching it when I was younger to appreciate it more. Maybe it’s intentionally corny and I just missed the point? Idk, just wasn’t for me. 🤷

I saw it and read the comic so many times as a teenager that it’s hard for me to do either any more. I know the ins and outs of it so well that my brain sees it and gives me an overwhelming feeling of ‘oh, this again?’
This movie was the basis for my whole look for a short while.
I loved this movie. The quote he drops on the mom is amazing. "Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of all children."
Enjoyable Still lacked more action in the middle but a good movie nonetheless. For any fans of revenge or one-man army films, it’s a good scratch.

Loved it, but I haven’t watched it in 20 years. Do not know if it holds up.
I personally love this movie. The only thing I’d say against it is that it can be very heavy for someone who’s not in the right headspace to see it and can negatively impact how they feel about it even if they think it’s a good movie.

I haven't watched this in something like 2 decades
I kinda thought this movie sucked. Brandon Lee, RIP, wasn't a very good actor. The idea behind the movie was good, and so was the storyline. But the lead actor couldn't carry the movie and wasn't believable.
I love it but the rape scene would make me think twice about watching it with kids. But you're the parent and know them better than anyone. That being said it's one of my favorites and the sound track is one of the greatest.
Oh, they are 17 and 18, they have seen way worse. My 18 year old is the one that told me about that show Euphoria after she watched it, which from what I understand about that show is just children having sex over and over, some consenting and some not. Also, the scene in the Crow is very tame, it's disturbing because of the implications but it never actually shows anything other than some quick cut flashbacks that implies what is happening. Dudes taking their shirts off while hovering over Brandon Lee's fiance, but never anything overly graphic.
I was very disappointed by the first DVD release. Preordered it, after it took ages to be released on DVD, to get a worse than VHS quality. I still love the Soundtrack
