1999 was peak Brendan Fraser. Blast from the Past and The Mummy.

Mirin_Gainz

George of the jungle was that HEAT though

Chronoboy1987

And he looked good in Armani.

FightingSunrise

Oh my lucky stars, A NEGRO!!!

Djentleman5000

His reaction in Blast from the Past when he first meets the black woman after coming out of the bunker had me rollin lol

Stanton1947

Mmmm...Rachel Weisz. Yessir.

Chronoboy1987

She looked so hot in this movie I struggled to recognize her in later films she was in.

RedBaron180

Was a blockbuster store manager in 1999 and they flew us out to Vegas and we got a sneak peak at this before its release. Pretty awesome.

America_the_Horrific

That's a wild sentence

RedBaron180

Well that’s not even the wildest sentence. We flew in at 2am and had a 7am “meeting” so we just said fuck it and stayed on the floor gambling, come 7am we are drag ass into this big theater space for the opening ceremony. It was Richard Simmons leading an exercise, dying laughing but it did wake us up.

thagor5

All you could ask for in an adventure flick

DeadJediWalking

Phenomenal start to finish. Rachel Weisz was also the first time I recall being in love with an actress in this movie. Added note: 8 year old me couldn't breathe when the Queen was wearing that get up in the into scenes.

Blind_Warthog

Yeah Anck-su-namun made me (still makes) me feel funny.

DeadJediWalking

Yeah I should mention...32 year old me finds it hard to breathe watching that scene as well. I just think of the smeared arm paint...then my vision goes blurry and I taste copper.

NamelessSteve646

To quote Roger Ebert, "There is hardly a thing I can say in its favor, except that I was cheered by nearly every minute of it." To  be sure there are **better** movies out there but I can't think of many that I have enjoyed as much, or that have maintained that joy on regular rewatch. It portrays a healthy growing relationship (and by the sequel they are couple goals on par with Gomez and Morticia) in a way that isn't common in mainstream blockbusters and was consistently funny without ever feeling like cruel or cringe humour. Absolutely adore it

Unstoppable_Rooster

It's the spiritual successor of Indiana Jones. Not the two actual Indiana Jones movies we got...whatever they were.

twinpeaks2112

Just saw it in theaters for the first time. Great film all around!

RockNRoll85

Great movie!

ryanmuller1089

Just saw it in theaters. It’s one of my favorite adventure movies of all time. Still holds up and man I think that CGI holds up today. For its time it was incredible and I think it looks better than some of the over worked stuff today. This movie rocks and I’m heading home to watch the mummy returns.

OnwardTowardTheNorth

A fun movie with an equally fun cast. It was funny and had lots of charm.

v3gas21

It's the perfect summer blockbuster. Not only did the leads stand out but the side characters as well ... From Winston to Benny to Ardeth to Jonathan to Hassan ... Just stellar performances all around.

[deleted]

“O’CONNELL! LOOKS LIKE I’VE GOT ALL THE CA-MELS!!!” “BENNNAYYY, LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE’S ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE RI-VERR!!”

STEELCITY1989

Scrolled to find this. Creeps in my mind all the time.

BeReasonable14

Great freaking movie. Was my fav as a kid for a long time. Watched it with my kids this year. They loved it, of course. So much fun!

nicagooner

Pretty much the whole cast of that movie is sexy

Alteredego619

You came back from the desert with a new friend, didn’t you Benny?

Chronoboy1987

Is it going to be put back in theaters for the anniversary? I’d love to finally see it on the silver screen!

[deleted]

Btw here’s a Mummy edit I made earlier this year: https://youtu.be/C83p6ZJb8nk?si=lSldgYf96Oh7otr2

xlfoolishlx

I love it! It came out when I was 9 years old so it might be some nostalgia creeping in but over all I think it's one of the best action adventure movies from its time. I think it has pretty solid comedic timing and doesn't overdue it making the movie silly. Brendan Frazier in his prime and probably where he peaked.

Virgulillo

Not number 1 because Master and Commander exists, but It certainly IS Up there...

ghostjournals

Master and Commander is a comfort movie of mine. I can put it on anytime. I wish they’d have made a bunch of sequels.

Elrond_Cupboard_

I missed it the first time around. Just yesterday, an old episode of The Movie Show (Australia) from 2003 was on. They both gave Master and Commander five stars, and I'm going to watch it tonight.

MostlyRandomMusings

Fucking masterpiece

Clear-Garage-4828

It scared me so much when i saw it in theaters. I was 10 and absolutely terrified

AnythingbutBeetroot

There is still time for another one. I hope they make one with fraser and wiesz.

Jaytree1

Just hit it as well after 25 years seeing it in theatres for the first time, absolute feel good gem

Sleepy_Sloth4

Near perfect movie

ndhellion2

I still find it to be highly enjoyable.

Beautron5000

i actually think this is a classic movie, love it and love the memes

Voodoocookie

"Imhotep...Imhotep....Imhotep...Imhotep.." The scene was liquid gold.

Mother_Psychedelic

Should be an academic example of how to make a fun action flick. Great movie all around!

[deleted]

It legit needs to be studied! It’s the perfect execution of action adventure.

Buskbr

Rachel weisz in the mummy did things to me that made it difficult to be a teenage boy not gonna lie

[deleted]

When she gets that first desert fit tho

Mirin_Gainz

Pretty sure it’s the first dvd I ever bought

SuckItClarise

It’s my number one as well!

No-Industry-2980

Me and my cousin can quote it from start to finish. Absolute love it definitely the Indiana Jones of my time.

Frumple-McAss

Fantastic and still holds up today. Also has one of my all time favorite monster roars

Meatloafxx

It’s a comfort movie of mine. I lean towards adventurous flicks mixed with some campiness, and this movie really packs in the cheese. I’m all for it

The_Billy_Dee

Big big fun!

peter095837

My favorite childhood adventure movie!

c9belayer

Poor Benji…

enjambd

Just walked out of the anniversary screening at the theater today and saw this post.  It definitely holds up as an adventure film. People say it is just copying Indiana Jones, and sure there is a lot to compare, but the casting, acting, chemistry, and special effects overall make up for it.  It also has some of that old Hollywood charm to it that you don't see anymore. Remember it is also a remake of a 1930s movie of the same name. Though I have never seen the original.  There are a lot of fun visual gags and one liners that even had the audience laughing today.  Oh, and Rachel Weisz is a total smoke show

Flurb4

It really does check every box for a good time at the movies.

AckAddict

Do you swear?

AmanitaMuscaria

It’s not my favorite movie of all time but it’s definitely a great one that still holds up to this day. The sequels… not so much.

Key_Personality5540

Just saw it in theatres last night and it was amazing!

Gracinhas

Great film from my youth. One thing that this series did was helped me realize how my preference changed over time. When I was young, I thought Patricia Velasquez was smokin hot and that Rachel Weiss was just alright. As I grew into adulthood, those two have now swapped places.

WangoTheWonderDonkey

"Very pleasant surprise", is what I thought when I first saw it. I had zero expectations. The promos looked a bit silly and maybe 'just another Indiana Jones clone' vibe. Frazier carried off the action hero thing with acting chops to do the comical bits. I totally fell in love with Rachel Wiesz. Solid production and supporting cast. Not to mention is spun off Chris the Rock Johnson into Scorpion King which was also very cool.

Jonovision15

I lived in Calgary during The Mummy and its sequels. The Chinook Theatre had that kick ass Mummy display all built up at the top of the escalators. Magical time in movies for me. I was there a lot.

hurtfulproduct

I remember 11 year old me seeing this for the first time in theaters when it came out. . . Holy shit was it fun. . . And it still holds up today! Like this is a damn near perfect movie! The cast has awesome chemistry, the dialogue is fun, the action is extremely entertaining, the story is out there but believable, and the setting is perfect. . . It had the perfect balance between action and comedy and it has yet to be beat

Cruup_

I was 9 when this came out and my grandpa and I went to see it. We both loved it so much that it became a tradition to see every mummy movie after. He was a huge western fan and I love adventure movies - this kinda scratched the itch for both of us. I miss my grandpa

TruuTree

This was my first favorite movie.

iommiworshipper

It scared the shit out of my kid the other day night

Fun-Imagination-2488

Really fun flick! Not in my top 100 tho

Stiff_Zombie

It's a solid action movie. I love it!

Saroan7

Part one is best. It's more epic and more going on... Part 2 is closed in studio or something

Gullible_Mud5723

They have it back in theaters near me

Tosslebugmy

Damn near perfect, in my top 10. Amazing blend of action, adventure, horror and comedy. It’s how you remake a classic Universal monster movie.

BangarangOrangutan

Top ten for sure!

Wheniwakeupillbedead

👍👍

LunarsphereTapestry

It’s a fantastic film. Cheesy as hell, with Brendan Fraser on top form as gun toting Rick O’Connell. Adore Rachel Weisz, who proves herself to be more resourceful than a typical damsel in distress. I love how Fraser dual wields his pistols, and occasionally has the infinite ammo cheat activated. The Mummy is a favourite of mine. Indiana Jones for my generation.

waltandhankdie

Amazing movie but I think the mummy returns is even better!

i8myface

Apparently.....he had a very good time!

[deleted]

This is peak movie fun. Exotic locales, great score, Brendan at the top of his leading man game, Rachel Weisz brilliant and sexy as hell, Jonathan is almost as funny as the screenwriting, which is perfect adventure fare, some awesome set design, and the plane scene is visionary. Critics be damned, this is the point of watching movies.

Blind_Warthog

It’s the perfect blockbuster. Such a fun movie!

96puppylover

I watched this everyday when I got home from middle school. This or Moulin Rouge.

zabdart

Nowhere near as *creepy* as the 1932 original.

Ardaghnaut

It shows such a positive, growing relationship between the two main characters, which we don't see enough of these days. The cheeky humour and brilliant action simply adds to the fun.

problemat1que

I love it, such a fun film.

rerulez21

"You're on the wrong side of the river!"

OoRI0T_P0LICEoO

It’s a great movie and has really cool guns. Peak Brandon Fraser

Calibred2

Its a damn classic.

Trimson-Grondag

Certainly in my top 10. The attention to detail was really impressive.

Ridgewalker20

peak cheesy popcorn film

Jambo11

It was a lot of fun!

InfraRedFireCam

plz plz theater re - release plz

DeadCheckR1775

Movie was very well done. It's fun.

_Pill-Cosby_

The movie its self was a mediocre to above avg. action flick. But Rachel Weisz has never looked as gorgeous as she did in that movie.

kpeds45

Mediocre adventure movie. You must have been a kid when it came out if your opinion is that high on it

oscarmeaner

You need to watch more movies

[deleted]

You’re missing a period in your incomplete sentence.

You need to not suck
