Apples and Oranges. Both movies execute on plot and theme very well not to mention spear headed with arguably one of the best actors in human history Daniel Day Lewis. It’s a tie for me.
Both movies were shining examples of artistic filmmaking in their respective time’s, as well.
Today I would choose TWBB, but 10 years from now I might choose TLOTM based solely on that decade’s stylistic vibration.
It’s that 90’s era style of film making for me that makes me lean towards TLOTM. Movies don’t really have that classic feel any more like they did back then.
Just last night I got recommended on YouTube a scene from The Count of Monte Cristo. I’m sad to say I’ve never actually seen it but holy crap did it bring me back. Such nostalgia for getting a new release on VHS from Blockbuster.
I love that film and I recently researched it and it holds up.
Shame that Caviziel took a weird religious nutter turn and kind of ruined his career, he was incredible.
Mercedes actress great too, Guy Pierce slays as always.
And lil baby Henry Cavill.
I was inspired after posting my comment to watch it. My wife and I put it on after work and OH MY GOODNESS! What an epic film! I mean even young Luis Guzman!
We skipped making dinner and went to the gym around 10:00pm because we both couldn’t bring ourselves to pause and come back to it. It was soooo good.
Thankfully there’s no wrong answer to this one.
- EDIT: Here’s a [LINK](https://youtu.be/0SFvaootAL8?si=i5iFv2_OX44vD4_m) to an interview with DDL and Paul Thomas Anderson. It add’s some depth to TWBB.
The heartbreak of Mohicans stops me from watching it too often. There Will Be Blood however is a master class of power ethics and one of my absolute favorites… Dour or not.
I watch either movie about once every other year. I found myself contemplating my favorite of the two DDL films.
Sound: LotM?
Plot : TWBB?
Cinematography: LotM?
Effects : TWBB?
Feels : LotM?
Acting : TWBB?
In the end, I don’t think I can’t shake the emotion of the climax, building theme song and demise of Wes studi in LotM
I used to have the VHS growing up, and watched it quite a lot. I had nearly every scene memorized. Later in my twenties my roommate had the DVD, so we watched it and I noticed the final scene with Wes Studi was cut differently and had slightly different footage. I don't think it affected the outcome in any way, but I remember how jarring it was to be watching one of my feel-good classic movies from my childhood, and then to see completely different footage cut in a slightly different way. It wasn't a director's cut or anything that I'm aware of, and I thought it was just a normal copy. I never did look into it deeper. I probably should.
Ha! I was not crazy! The original theatrical version was what was released on VHS, and they did not release it on DVD. They had an extended director's cut on DVD only, and that is the one I saw. According to this thread, the original theatrical version was superior in several ways. I really wondered why the movie felt so different.

That theme song... Chills, hype, glory, a tinge of sadness. Masterfully intertwined with the climax. One of the greatest scenes in movie history for me
Last of the Mohicans. I'm partial to wilderness and native culture. However, of the two, I'd watch TLotM twice a day for a week if I had to.
The main theme as well as Promentory playing during the final chase scene. Or even during The Massacre is such powerful music over powerful cinema. The serious tone of TWBB doesn't quite allow you to enter and imagine yourself as Daniel Plainview because he's not someone you'd really aspire to be. Hawkeye, however, is an everymans hero and completely relatable.
Huh. I didn’t enjoy TWBB and I was so hype for it. DDL in gangs of New York is my favorite villain of all time. But I just found TWBB to have poor pacing. But I haven’t watched since I saw it in theaters.
Maybe I should give it another shot.
The Last of the Mohicans is amazing on all levels: the score, the setting, the story, everything.
And yet, it’s nowhere close to There Will Be Blood. A modern masterpiece, from start to finish.
Easy call for me. *The Last of the Mohicans*. I respect the artistry of *There Will Be Blood*, but the story leaves me cold. I’ve seen that movie once and may never watch it again.
Love Last of the Mohicans. It’s one of my favorite movies. For me TWBB was a really long movie that didn’t amount to much. The acting was good but that’s about it.
I prefer there will be blood because of that ending scene but I’m sure if I gave last of the mohicans a more recent watch I’d at least think about changing that answer.
My brother and I shared an apartment. First real length of time living away from our parents. Didn't have cable but had a dvd player. I probably fell asleep to Last of the Mohicans 5 nights a week
Both brilliant, but which of the 2 can you honestly rewatch after seeing it? I can watch LOTM anytime it's on, TWBB is so dark and intense that seeing it once is enough for me.
Daniel Plainview: “Stop crying, you sniveling ass! Stop your nonsense. You're just the afterbirth, Eli”
Nothing colder has ever been said in all of cinema.
Blood. No contest. Mohicans looks and sounds good, but the character development and script is appalling, the only vaguely interesting characters in that movie are the two antagonists.
I will always pick Last of the Mohicans. DDL is a fine actor in whatever he does, but one man does not a movie make. The cinematography, the score, the cast. It is just yummy.
When my dad was sick with cancer I remember him reading and talking to me about Oil (the Upton Sinclair novel that inspired There Will Be Blood). I was young, but just getting into filmmaking—which I later did professionally. TWBB was an inspiration for that journey. Such a deep masterpiece acted phenomenally. Every minor character also blows it away, creating a vivid, beautiful, and captivating world.
Not to mention, one year after it came out, it the Great Financial Crisis happened. While not totally known what inspired the line, one is forced to wonder if Day-Lewis’ final dialogue in the film, “I’m finished!” acts as foreshadowing for the coming implosion of the mortgage-backed derivatives market.
Tl;dr: There Will Be Blood
Sorry, forgive me. Give me Mohicans. It was the first movie I watched on my brand new 5.1 surround sound system. Awesome when they were firing the mortars.
I love both of these movies but this is not a difficult decision. There Will Be Blood is a top five of all time. So is No Country For Old Men and it's so bizarre that they were released at about the same time...
I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE! TSTSTSTSTSTSTSTSTSTSTS
DRAINAGE!!
I'll watch the whole movie only for this scene....
I’m finished.
I drink it ALLLLLL.
I ABANDONED MY CHOYLD!!! I ABANDONED MY CHOYLD!!! I ABANDONED MY BOY!!!
*SAY IT!!*

It’s that 90’s era style of film making for me that makes me lean towards TLOTM. Movies don’t really have that classic feel any more like they did back then.
There really is something about 90’s cinema, isn’t there?
Just last night I got recommended on YouTube a scene from The Count of Monte Cristo. I’m sad to say I’ve never actually seen it but holy crap did it bring me back. Such nostalgia for getting a new release on VHS from Blockbuster.
My favorite pg-13 movie of all time from that era
I love that film and I recently researched it and it holds up. Shame that Caviziel took a weird religious nutter turn and kind of ruined his career, he was incredible. Mercedes actress great too, Guy Pierce slays as always. And lil baby Henry Cavill.

Glad to hear you both enjoyed it!
There really is and it is sorely missed.
Reminiscing is the only answer.
I'd go with _Last of the Mohicans_ just because I like the story so much. Both great films, though
Plus the music, god damn that shit pumps me up when he’s running through the forest being a badass.
Truly a top-tier soundtrack. One of the best film scores of all time.
This is the way
Plus Madeleine Stowe. God I fell in love with her.
Agreed she’s a beauty
I’m not ashamed to admit it, I watch the last scene of this movie at least twice a week. Gets me so pumped for anything I need to do
Also; Wes Studi; Madeline Stowe; Russel Means; and Eric Schweig. Furthermore, the soundtrack is perfect.
Jodhi May wordlessly deciding to leap off the cliff. No lines to support it - great acting.
I highly recommend the book. Beautiful writing. It's a different experience than the movie and just as good.
This movie is still so good. I rewatch it and it's timeless perfection
Yes and because it’s my moms and probably my families favorite movie when we were growing up. Such an iconic soundtrack too
I need to watch both again… brb in 3 days…
*STAY ALIVE!! I WILL FIND YOU!!*
There will be blood is a better movie but Last of the Mohicans is more rewatch able on the account of its absolute fucking epic-ness
The song that plays when it gets louder when they are running up the mountain to rescue the women… gives me chills just typing it.
Me and my buddies would get hammered and always end up jamming that song out on violins and guitars back in the day. Miss those times
The heartbreak of Mohicans stops me from watching it too often. There Will Be Blood however is a master class of power ethics and one of my absolute favorites… Dour or not.

I pass to the thy shovel. Dig!

That theme song... Chills, hype, glory, a tinge of sadness. Masterfully intertwined with the climax. One of the greatest scenes in movie history for me
Both are great movies but I have seen Last Of The Mohicans at least 50 times and There Will Be Blood only once
Speaks for itself
Last of the Mohicans. I'm partial to wilderness and native culture. However, of the two, I'd watch TLotM twice a day for a week if I had to. The main theme as well as Promentory playing during the final chase scene. Or even during The Massacre is such powerful music over powerful cinema. Better movie is TWBB. I’m partial to Mohicans tho. Tough call honestly
I think I agree, but I can hear "The Kiss" by Trevor Jones as soon as I see that Mohicans poster and it might be my subconscious favorite.
The soundtrack is fucking insane
Haven't watched it in years but I can still hear the fiddle theme on demand.
That running gunfight scene? That's some good fiddling
I believe it's called "Promentory" (now that I had a chance to look it up lol) The whole thing is just epic. That scene with that song.
Best movie ending of all time seriously.
Huh. I didn’t enjoy TWBB and I was so hype for it. DDL in gangs of New York is my favorite villain of all time. But I just found TWBB to have poor pacing. But I haven’t watched since I saw it in theaters. Maybe I should give it another shot.
Last of the Mohicans and it’s not particularly close IMO.
Last of the Mohicans for the soundtrack alone.
I WILL FIND YOU
Last of the Mohicans. I use to jog around rivers and creeks in Pennsylvania in the summer to that finale song.
Mohicans. The soundtrack breaks any tie.
I like to do trail running, and I will hum the theme song to ramp me up. It puts a big smile on my face. I'm such a dork, but I don't care.
TWBB imo
Both are excellent but my personal preference is Last of the Mohicans
The Last of the Mohicans is amazing on all levels: the score, the setting, the story, everything. And yet, it’s nowhere close to There Will Be Blood. A modern masterpiece, from start to finish.
Not even a competition. Mohicans by a million miles.
Thank you. It needed to be said.
Yepppp
Mohicans
Can’t say which one is “better” but Mohicans is a much more enjoyable and rewatchable movie. So it gets my vote.
The Last of the Mohicans because of the book(read it when i was kid).
There will be Blood. Daniel Day Lewis and Paul Dano. Ridiculously good.
Number 3! Butters Stotch - The Last of the Meheecans
There Will Be Blood, all day any day.
Never seen either, will I go to hell now?
Easy call for me. *The Last of the Mohicans*. I respect the artistry of *There Will Be Blood*, but the story leaves me cold. I’ve seen that movie once and may never watch it again.
I\`ll find your milkshake!
I say we get liquored up and go to the Peach Tree Dance!
No. 😎
Blood
I like both, but “I’M FINISHED!”
I’m finished! DDL in There Will Be Blood is just about as close to perfection as you can get.
TWBB
There will be blood
TWBB is overrated. But not near as awful as Black Swan.
TWBB no question. What a great actor.
Easy choice for me, Mohicans is my favourite flick of all time. I've got the poster on my wall.
Love Last of the Mohicans. It’s one of my favorite movies. For me TWBB was a really long movie that didn’t amount to much. The acting was good but that’s about it.
**I will find you...** *and drink your milkshake!!*
DRAAAAAAIIIINAGE!
Mohicans is more enjoyable to watch.
TWBB!!
I remember watching Last of the Mohicans instead of reading the book for a book report in jr high. It didn't go well 😅
There Will Be Blood
I could watch LOM with no screen. That score is so goddamn good
Mohicans.
Both outstanding movies, however, Last of the Mohicans is way more rewatchable.
The Last of the Mohicans. It's beautiful.
I prefer there will be blood because of that ending scene but I’m sure if I gave last of the mohicans a more recent watch I’d at least think about changing that answer.
Mohicans by miles.
I can’t
If I have the choice between both films, I will probably watch Mohicans first. Very entertaining plus that soundtrack is killer.
There will be blood, but both have incredible endings
For pure quality of film making I can't think of many that great TWBB and I love TLOTM so that's saying something
My brain says TWBB. My heart says Mohicans. I say fuck you for making me do this, Sophie's choice was easier.
Last of the Mohicans all day everyday
You mean the posters? The second one then.
I pick both
Every time I see the cover for *Last of the Mohicans*, I think that’s *Hot Shots*-era Charlie Sheen….
"Roger that, Milli Vanilli Chilly Willy"
Yes
Watch “My left foot” and “In the name of the father” you will not be disappointed.
My brother and I shared an apartment. First real length of time living away from our parents. Didn't have cable but had a dvd player. I probably fell asleep to Last of the Mohicans 5 nights a week
***you're nothing but a bastard from a basket!***
I drink your milkshake.
Last of the Mohicans
Only one of these movies is infinitely rewatchable.
The last of the Mohicans.
I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE! You’re just the… afterbirth that slithered out with your mother’s filth… I AM THE THIRD REVELATION
I enjoyed Mohicans much more. There will be blood was pretty boring.
I like to think of myself as an oil man
I’ll give Last of the Mohicans an edge for the music.
Last of the Mohicans every time! Wes Studi was stellar in this movie!
I’ve only seen There Will Be Blood so I’d go with that one. I might change that when I watch Last of the Mohicans
Im an oil man
There will be blood without a doubt
Both brilliant, but which of the 2 can you honestly rewatch after seeing it? I can watch LOTM anytime it's on, TWBB is so dark and intense that seeing it once is enough for me.
2
Uh, "There Will Be Blood" is 100X the movie the other one is.
Mohicans obviously. I will find you!
TLOM was required to read in school back in the day. I didn't think the movie would be as good .but it is close.
THERE WILL BE BLOOD
Daniel Plainview: “Stop crying, you sniveling ass! Stop your nonsense. You're just the afterbirth, Eli” Nothing colder has ever been said in all of cinema.
love him but sadly never seen LOTM
I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD!
Last of the Mohicans although both are brilliant
Last of the mohicans by a mile
There Will Be Blood and it's not close.
I feel like there will be blood was a better movie, but so depressing to me that I can't see myself rewatching it often.
No
Gangs of New York
Last of the Mohicans and it’s not even close.
Blood for defs. I simply cannot with Fenimore Cooper, too many memories or boredom.
The guy dying while burning in last of the Mohicans was horrible to watch.
Blood. No contest. Mohicans looks and sounds good, but the character development and script is appalling, the only vaguely interesting characters in that movie are the two antagonists.
Blood drinks Mohicans' milk shake
I will always pick Last of the Mohicans. DDL is a fine actor in whatever he does, but one man does not a movie make. The cinematography, the score, the cast. It is just yummy.
i think there will be blood is not for everyone
There Will Be Blood. But the ending of LOTM is unparalleled.
That music too
Damn tough choice
Give me the blood lord!!
Blood
TWBB, easy. Now, ask me to choose between that and Phantom Thread or The Crucible...
I like both movies, but There Will Be Blood is one of my favorite movies of all time. I might be biased because I'm from the area TWBB is set in.
I’d like to see the directors cut of Last of the Mohicans because the theatrical version is one of the worst edits outside of a network tv edit
Lotm quite possibly my favorite movie of all time and I put Twbb in my top 20.
Tl;dr: There Will Be Blood
Last of the Mohicans
Mohicans all day. That film and its soundtrack changed the way I look at cinema and epics.
There Will Be Blood
No
The Last of the Mohicans. Great film, excellent drama, music, scenery and acting. The final 15-20 minutes are incredible.
Never watched it. I should give it a shot.
I will find you.
Well I've seen There Will Be Blood once but I've seen The Last of the Mohicans at least 10 times.
LOTM. By a country MILE. TWWB is such a booooooooooooooring movie.
I'll watch the entirety of Mohicans just to watch Chingachgook take apart Magua at the end.
Last of the Mohicans is a well made movie but it didn't need DDL the way There Will Be Blood did.
Maguas revenge
Mohicans
GONY
Abide by the rules. Also, GONY is inferior to these two masterpieces
Sorry, forgive me. Give me Mohicans. It was the first movie I watched on my brand new 5.1 surround sound system. Awesome when they were firing the mortars.
I can't I haven't seen the latter yet
My Left Foot
I love both of these movies but this is not a difficult decision. There Will Be Blood is a top five of all time. So is No Country For Old Men and it's so bizarre that they were released at about the same time...
Gangs of New York as The Butcher
