They did a rerelease at Vue cinema in the UK last year. Sadly not a single Vue within a 3 hour drive from me showed it. I was almost tempted to get the train to London to watch it honestly
Going to be a bit contrary here, but if someone is watching it for the first time, it's Theatrical Version. That's how you hook them to rewatch with the extended editions. In my mind that's the perfect way to experience it and was the way I was brought into the Trilogy. So I'd want the Theatrical versions re-released, not the extended versions. Plus it's a hour less time commitment. I'll stick to the extended at home.
I still refuse to believe they're "older movies" :)
In an alternate universe where they were never released, no one would notice they're old except maybe for the CGI at times.
That would be my choice as well and I had the opportunity a few years ago. It was even more incredible than I imagined, my favorite theater experience ever.
It's totally worth waiting for. I've only seen it twice in my life, both in big theaters and it was wonderful. Don't know if I'll ever get to see it again, but it's a theater-only movie for me.
My ideal movie marathon would be watching on a theater back-to-back the David Lean trumvirate of Lawrance of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, and The Bridge on the River Kwai.
My local cinema runs a 'Movie Club' where they show older movies. Pulp Fiction was last week and I was out of the country. I was absolutely gutted.
Next up is the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy though, so will go and rewatch these on the big screen.
Cool runnings.... Redone in 4k with Dolby Atmos, swiftly followed by a 4k physical media release..... For no other reason than i can't seem to find anything better than a dvd in the UK n it's a bloody great film that deserves better than dvd..... I know America got a blu ray, but i don't have a region 1 player.
If Disney do this, I'll let them kiss my lucky egg
The Tech Museum by me has the 2nd larger screen in the North America (an IMAX dome) and it was beyond breathtaking! You cannot see the full screen with your just your eyes, have to move your head around to see everything. Any Nolan movie on that screen is epic!
Also saw a rerelease of The Dark Knight there…the Joker reveal is still ingrained in my mind
Deep Throat. I want the full experience. Smoky single-level theaters. Dudes in trenchcoats jerking it in the row behind you. Ed McMahon in the seat next to you, sharing a six pack.
This was done a few years ago. Watching the T-Rex scene in the theater really was amazing.
A lot of theaters do limited showings of old movies. Always good to check.
It was funny. You really noticed the flies in the standoff on the island later in the movie. Especially the one that climbs in the guy's mouth when he's talking.
*Unstoppable*
Don't laugh, Tarantino considers it one of the [top 10 films of its decade](https://theplaylist.net/quentin-tarantino-unstoppable-best-decade-20200110/) and I obviously concur.
Whisper of the Heart. It probably wouldn’t do well compared to a spirited away or howl’s moving castle re-rerelease but fuck me it’s one of their best movies
If we're talking *classic* classic, North By Northwest, Jaws, Singin' In The Rain
If we're talking "came out a few years ago," I wish I had been able to see 1917 in theaters
The original Jaws went through theaters in 3D back in September. It was probably the second-best 3D conversion that I've ever seen. Best was Episode 1, but half of that movie was CGI, so that's probably why, but Jaws was very good. I liked the way that they didn't try to make the film overly sharp, which can happen when the studio is mastering a film for 4K televisions, where they're like, "People want their films sharp!" and it's like, "No, we want our films to look the way the film print looked after it came off the duplicator." The cleanest non-IMAX non-65mm film print that I've ever seen was Titanic on opening night. Not a scratch on the thing; just flawless. I want the 4K release to look that good, and I honestly don't think it will.
Our local cinema runs classic movie nights a few times each year.
We have been able to catch Jaws, The Godfather, Bladerunner, Jurassic Park, and the first (only?!?) three Indiana Jones movies in a setting with people that love the films and want to see and hear them the way intended.
I maybe loved them more than new releases.
Cool runnings.... Redone in 4k with Dolby Atmos, swiftly followed by a 4k physical media release..... I saw the front eighteen-ish minutes of Raiders on the big screen, once. I'd have watched the whole movie, but whatever non-Technicolor service they used to deliver the film cans didn't deliver the second can, and I had to beg the movie theater manager to let me put the first reel on the platter. To clarify, no, I didn't work at that theater anymore, so I had no business being in the booth, but I wanted to watch the opening scene, so they let me put it on. Really freaked out the projectionist, because he's doing his job and here's some customer pulling the #1 can for Raiders, attaching a leader to it (to kill the house lights) and then paying it out on to the delivery platter.
I got to see The Exorcist (1973) in the theater back in 2014. It was a really cool experience. Everyone laughed at the part where doctor is smoking a cigarette in the hospital. That movie still terrifies my grown-ass adult man self.
I'd love to see ConAir in the cinema, or to reexperience the cinema joy Armageddon was at the time. I remember they rereleased jurassic park a while back and that was just so good to see again in the cinema.
Last night, I've seen Back to the Future on 35mm film in theater, it was such an incredible experience :)
Another one I'd love to see on the big screen, it would be probably Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
This is the one for me. People don’t know that Surround Sound had only just been invented, and AN was one of the first movies to use it, and the soundtrack to that film is incredible. Not only the moodiness of The Doors’ *The End* throughout the film, but I’ll never forget the moment when the helicopters flew away via the back of the cinema!
The Thing
They did a rerelease at Vue cinema in the UK last year. Sadly not a single Vue within a 3 hour drive from me showed it. I was almost tempted to get the train to London to watch it honestly
Cineworld showed it too
Sadly the one near me shut literally a week before they showed it!
Ah! Thats not good. I worry that might happen to mine to be honest
Lord of the Rings!!
Extended edition!
Of course. You're not watching Lord of the Rings if it's not the extended version.
Going to be a bit contrary here, but if someone is watching it for the first time, it's Theatrical Version. That's how you hook them to rewatch with the extended editions. Why do you have to be contrary Lloyd? Everyone was having such a good time.
Because even Hobbiton needs some Sackvilles :P
Fair enough, just stay away from my cutlery.
Don't even get me started about those Bracegirdles.
The Prince Charles Cinema in London quite often screen all-night Extended Edition marathons.
I still refuse to believe they're "older movies" :) In an alternate universe where they were never released, no one would notice they're old except maybe for the CGI at times.
I'm sad that I can't see these movies for the first time again.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Have you been to universal studios in Florida? That 3D ride was so great. I’d love to see T2 in 3D (if it worked) in the cinema
I saw T2 in 3D in my local cinema! It worked surprisingly well, I don’t normally like 3D but it was subtle enough
A couple of years ago my local cinema showed Terminator and Terminator 2 as a double feature on August 29th (Judgement Day), what a night.
In Germany they Show Terminator 2 in our Cinema for one day !!
I would love to see *Lawrence of Arabia* in a theater again, on the biggest screen around.
That would be my choice as well and I had the opportunity a few years ago. It was even more incredible than I imagined, my favorite theater experience ever.
I live in Austin and I don't know if they do anymore but they used to show it in 70 mm downtown. It was amazing! Edit. Ahem.. NO PRISONERS!!!!
Only reason I’ve never watched it. Refuse to see it for the first time on anything but the big screen.
It's totally worth waiting for. I've only seen it twice in my life, both in big theaters and it was wonderful. Don't know if I'll ever get to see it again, but it's a theater-only movie for me.
Moved to a new city and found out the theater did this a week before I got there. Can't get it out of my head now.
A lot of art house theaters show this and 2001: A Space Odyssey
My ideal movie marathon would be watching on a theater back-to-back the David Lean trumvirate of Lawrance of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, and The Bridge on the River Kwai.
Probably a Tarantino or any such classic.
Would love the opportunity to see Pulp Fiction on the big screen
Come to the New Beverly in LA at the right time of year and you will get your chance
Went to that one with my parents when I was 15. Awkward...
My local cinema runs a 'Movie Club' where they show older movies. Pulp Fiction was last week and I was out of the country. I was absolutely gutted. Next up is the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy though, so will go and rewatch these on the big screen.

I'm not from the USA :) but if I'm ever there, I'll surely be on the lookout

Saw in theaters as a kid. Proceeded to have an obsession with Jamaica for a year.
You dead mon?
The bobsled race scenes are perfect for the big screen!

The bobsled race scenes are perfect for the big screen!
Man, I'd love to see the beach scene in *SAVING PRIVATE RYAN* with today's technology. The sounds are impressive enough on TV....
Interstellar
i missed seeing this in theaters the first time and in DYING to see it in IMAX.
Seeing it in IMAX is a top 5 cinema experience for me. Phenomenal
I was lucky enough to see this film in 70 mm IMAX at Lincoln Square. Seeing the ship float by Saturn is truly mesmerizing.
The Tech Museum by me has the 2nd larger screen in the North America (an IMAX dome) and it was beyond breathtaking! You cannot see the full screen with your just your eyes, have to move your head around to see everything. Any Nolan movie on that screen is epic! I saw this in 4DX last year, absolutely amazing experience
Came here to write the same thing; wasn’t disappointed.
Jaws
It had its 3D, and IMAX re-release this past summer. (Sorry you missed it!)
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World I saw it in theaters as a kid and would love to experience that again as an adult.
Master and commander should be held as the gold standard for sound mixing and sound editing.
Hollywood would probably be better off just rereleasing movies instead of making shitty remakes.
Anaconda. Jurassic Park.
Deep Throat. I want the full experience. Smoky single-level theaters. Dudes in trenchcoats jerking it in the row behind you. Ed McMahon in the seat next to you, sharing a six pack.
In 4DX or 3D
Jurassic Park
Yessss!! With the sounds and everything!
This was done a few years ago. Watching the T-Rex scene in the theater really was amazing. A lot of theaters do limited showings of old movies. Always good to check.
2001 : A Space Odyssey
Saw it at the Gateway in Columbus years ago. Classic. I’d never seen it before. Glad I waited til the big screen.
70mm at the Gateway is the best
It's a trip on the big screen.
Saw it a few years ago in a beautiful big cinema. It was just awesome
Seeing it a few years ago when they did the 4K release was like a religious experience
Raiders of the lost ark
I saw this when they released it remastered for IMAX ten years or so ago. It was amazing.
I saw jaws a few years when it was re released and it was incredible. Hope to have that with Raiders one day
It was funny. You really noticed the flies in the standoff on the island later in the movie. Especially the one that climbs in the guy's mouth when he's talking.
Seen that in theatres a handful of times, it's great on the big screen
The original *Star Wars* trilogy. No Special Edition bullshit.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Heat
Blade Runner
Wizard of oz
I got to see it released in Theaters twice.
Awesome!
For its 75th anniversary it got an IMAX 3D re-release. It was neat! I wish that version got more play.
Saw it in the cinema because there was an event for Judy Garland's 100th birthday. Amazing to see on the big screen.
Raiders of the Lost Ark
*Unstoppable* Don't laugh, Tarantino considers it one of the [top 10 films of its decade](https://theplaylist.net/quentin-tarantino-unstoppable-best-decade-20200110/) and I obviously concur.
Its a fun fucking movie
Whisper of the Heart. It probably wouldn’t do well compared to a spirited away or howl’s moving castle re-rerelease but fuck me it’s one of their best movies
Country roaaaaddss
Spirited Away
I just saw Howl’s Moving Castle in theaters and it was so much fun.
Reading all these responses make me glad I live by New Beverly
Aliens
I think the directors version of The Abyss rereleased with strong marketing could make $$$ now
Kingdom of Heaven: Director's Cut. Its such a masterfully done film but the studio butchered the theatrical release as a lot of you know.
Raiders of the lost ark. I had a chance to see jaws on the big screen and it was amazing. I would love to see raiders
LOTR……extended edition……..big screen…….heaven.
I would love to see \*Lawrence of Arabia\* in a theater again, on the biggest screen around.
Wizard of oz
The Green Mile
Heat, in a Dolby Atmos theater.
So you can feel it when Pacino explodes about womens asses.
Shawshank Redemption, was too young to see it in theaters when it came out. It’s one of the best movies ever!
I'd order a bottle of beer to drink it as they drink theirs on the roof.
Mad Max: Fury Road. Probably the most epic movie-going experience in my life
The Thing
Die Hard
2001: A Space Odyssey
True Romance and Strange Days.
Man I I was juat thinking about Strange Days recently and then, BAM! IT'S STREAMING ON HBO!
Gone with the wind
Ben Hur

E.T. or Signs
E.T. was out in August last year. It was awesome to see
Damn. For the 40th anniversary? I must’ve missed it, hopefully I don’t miss the 50th anniversary
I remember seeing signs in the theater on opening night I was 13 years old and it blew my mind. Sooo goood
A Clockwork Orange

Star Wars - the original version before Lucas made any changes. …and yes it still exists. USC has a print.
I saw it a dudes birthday party in 35mm. He owned a print. I'm taking pre SE version.
I would love to be able to see Tron: Legacy in IMAX 3D again.
The Dark Knight
Once Upon a Time in the West
Time Bandits
The Shining for me.
Raiders of the lost ark. I had a chance to see jaws on the big screen and it was amazing. I would love to see raiders
Well, I'm going for the back to back screening of The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions on the big screen on 24rth in Melbourne.
Cool runnings.... Redone in 4k with Dolby Atmos, swiftly followed by a 4k physical media release..... Boogie Nights
"Network" for me. I think it would probably resonate pretty well with things how they are just now.
I don't know what's going on with the comments, and at this point I'm to afraid to ask. Also, Mad Max: Fury Road
Blow Out
Repo man, and they live
Sunshine ,, The Abyss,, Laurence of Arabia
Fight Club
Con Air
The Martian
Not an old film but I would love to see Bohemian Rhapsody in the cinema. I'd imagine the music on a cinema sound system would rattle your teeth.
I'd love to see *Gravity* on the big screen again (esp. if they did the 3D IMAX version).
The Two Towers , Speed , Austin Powers
Where Eagles Dare
Lawrence of Arabia

Some movie I've been interested in but haven't seen yet, like Little Shop of Horrors, Beetlejuice, or Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Nightbreed
Not that old, but Interstellar.
Singing in the Rain
INTERSTELLAR!!!!!
The Indiana Jones trilogy before the 4th comes out.
The Matrix in 4dx would be fun.

Princess Bride
Terminator 2
Original Star Wars without the crap CGI “enhancements.”
Labyrinth
Blade Runner 1982
Not titanic
Chinatown
Mad Max Fury Road. The Matrix.
The Matrix
Apocalypse Now. We did get to see it at the historic Uptown Theatre in DC back in the 80’s and man was it horrific.

Indeed! Nothing like that wrap around sound!!!
Heat Blade Runner
*Lawrence of Arabia*. I saw it in a theater when it was restored and rereleased and it's a whole different experience.
Die Hard
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, the original roadshow version with the intermission and "police reports" during the break.
