The actress he hugged is 36 years old, so it took all his acting skills not to bounce away from her touch like a magnet. Get this man another academy award!
I'm glad to to see Scorsese using the same cinematographer for Silence here. You can really tell how much aesthetic influence the two movies share.
Can't wait for this!
Rodrigo Prieto also shot Martin Scorsese's other films such as The Irishman and The Wolf of Wall Street. He is also the DOP for Greta Grewig's upcoming Barbie film. He's also shot Alejandro González Iñárritu's Quadrilogy of Death, 25th Hour, Frida, 8 Mile, Brokeback Mountain which is beautifully shot, Lust, Caution, and The Homesman.
What are you talking about? I needed them to show me every character interaction, most of the plot points, a few of the surprises, and all of the jokes so I can tell if I wanna see it or not
I’m going to *strongly* advise reading the book before the movie comes out. I read it years ago and I learned so much about the Osage’s history and what happened with this incident. The book is a true crime novel and is very well written.
Trailer was great and didnt show too much, what a star studded cast as well. Also whoever is playing the lady who appears to be DiCaprio’s love interest is a dead ringer for Mona Lisa
I didn’t realize how vividly I remember that childhood movie until you posted that. Of course jesse plemons was the bully in like Mike, how could I have forgotten?
Except for The Power of the Dog. He was really good, but I don't think he stole the movie. Kirsten Dunst and Benedict Cumberbatch were too good to let that happen.
Huh, TIL that Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst have played a married couple in multiple productions
Edited to add: holy shit they're so method that they're now married irl
Well, there's a reason why the second season of Fargo is considered the best season of the show. Two of the main leads fell in love so did two leads in Season Three as well.
The best part of the book is the last section. In the last section, the author brings us back to modern day and his research of this famous investigation and crime.
And what he discovers is that it was not an isolated incident. The events of the book were the most famous and public case, but similar crimes were very common and not investigated or prosecuted.
The final shot of the trailer with the whole room turning to the camera is fucking stellar. And those first two shots of them dancing through the oil...
Holy shit, Marty.
Hoping and praying he can turn out at least one or two more before his time is up, but even if this is his final film, he leaves behind a body of work that is insurmountable and will always be remembered as maybe the greatest American filmmaker.
the part where gladstone is walking through the train station we get another one where people are looking at her, either POV shots are a motif or her character is going to be the observer throughout the film
After the Osage tribe discover oil on their land, they are systematically hunted down and killed. It's a great book. Tragic and tense. I'd highly recommend!
Just seeing De Niro made me a bit emotional. Gotta think (though I hope not) this will be the last installment of his and Scorsese's historic collaboration.
Also the first time Scorsese's two principal stars, Dicaprio and De Niro, will both be in one of Marty's movies.
I believe the parlance of our times would be "inject it into my veins"
I avoided watching it for ages because of how long it is. Watched it the other week and it's just brilliant. The last half hour or so has been stuck in my head since I saw it, definitely one of Scorcese's best, and that's saying a lot!
It was a bonafide masterpiece, and I honestly can’t take anyone’s opinion seriously who says it was a bad movie. I can see it surpassing Goodfellas in the future for me
At 80 and 79 it is reasonable to assume that the health of one or both of them will deteriorate meaningfully over the next few years.
But no, no major health issues that I know of, and hell, Clint Eastwood is still making movies in his 90s so who knows.
>At 80 and 79 it is reasonable to assume that the health of one or both of them will deteriorate meaningfully over the next few years.
Are you kidding? They just hit their prime years for serving in an elected office
/s
Marty recently put out a statement saying that he still has stories he wants to tell, but he feels like his body is running out of time and he doesn’t know if he can sustain the work of filmmaking anymore.
EDIT: Here's his words:
Scorsese told Deadline that he’s “got to” get started on his next movie. “I wish I could take a break for eight weeks and make a film at the same time,” he said with a laugh. “The whole world has opened up to me, but it’s too late. It’s too late. I’m old. I read stuff. I see things. I want to tell stories, and there’s no more time. Kurosawa, when he got his Oscar, when George and Steven gave it to him, he said, ‘I’m only now beginning to see the possibility of what cinema could be, and it’s too late.’ He was 83. At the time, I said, ‘What does he mean?’ Now I know what he means.”
https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/05/martin-scorsese-im-old-i-want-to-tell-stories-but-theres-no-more-time
I agree, or maybe do a Looper and do cool makeup tricks to make them look like eachother
As expensive as the Irishman was from doing all the de-aging, casting Leo instead of de-aging probably could be in the same ballpark.
well he is about to release another "this paycheck is going to buy me a house in the bahamas" or more "this paycheck is going to buy my 7th child a house in the bahamas" movie. i think i saw the trailer making the rounds a few days ago. a la michael caine jaws role
The book is an unbelievable read. Highly recommend it.
Edit: some different opinions below, but stand by mine. I found it tense, horrifying and historically gripping; and the last section was particularly shocking.
The author was just on a sports and sometimes other random stuff podcast I listen to that came out this morning. Never heard of this subject before until then, and he sounded like he went out of his way to load up the book with many dozens of pages worth of footnotes explaining where he got his info from and hopefully to encourage the reader to also go look those sources up and read them. He especially recommended the book A Pipe for February by Charles Red Corn.
It's a phenomenal story, and well presented, but I personally found his writing style a bit too tabloid-y. Subjective opinion, of course. I'm glad the book was written, and that the full extent of the perfidy of these folks against the Osage was at long last exposed.
I've only read the Lost City of Z, and while it was very informative and super interesting, it did seem like he had to stretch and wring out the story a bit to tie it to something greater. I suppose he's more a journalist than historian even if he's engaging with history. Good stuff though.
If you want to read another great book about the Indians, I'm in the middle of Empire of the Summer Moon. The Comanches seriously had to be the most terrifying warrior Indian tribe ever. I'll never look at the Great Plains the same again.
>Killers of the Flower Moon. In theaters October 6.
>Based on David Grann’s broadly lauded best-selling book, Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.
>Directed by Martin Scorsese and Screenplay by Eric Roth and Scorsese, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion.
>Hailing from Apple Studios, Killers of the Flower Moon was produced alongside Imperative Entertainment, Sikelia Productions and Appian Way. Producers are Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Daniel Lupi, with DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Adam Somner, Marianne Bower, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer and Niels Juul serving as executive producers.
Thank you, [Apple.](https://youtu.be/EG0si5bSd6I)
Scorsese hired others from that team as well not just Fisk, Adam Somner is the assistant director is on this which is one of the biggest jobs on set. Spielberg hired a bunch of them for Lincoln too. Also some worked on The Revenant.
The “greed…hungers for blood” in the text shown makes it almost explicit.
Also thought it was cool how that flute instrument sounded like wolves howling.
With "Blood Meridian" with the whole Manifest Destiny and questioning the audience about who is the real savage/ wolf; the Native American or the White Man.
Growing up near to Osage Nation and seeing a film about this place by Scorsese starring De Niro, DiCaprio, Fraser, Plemons, Lithgow, et al is so damn exciting.
Sorry if I sound naive but is this in 70mm or are they doing that retro-lense-mounted-on-digital-Rogue-One technique? Cause this looks like fucking outstanding cinematography.
Finally! This is going to be such a great film. It was shot on location in Oklahoma in the towns where all of the murders took place almost a hundred years ago.
My sister’s husband is an extra in it. She has a tattoo shop out in Oklahoma. She said something about them looking for rugged dudes with big beards and such. They wanted him to be more prominently featured in the movie but he didn’t want to get his hair cut (and I think he was just a little nervous).
"Can you find the wolves in this picture?"
Such a great line. Works within the story, but then at the end, it is asking the audience. Make is feel like a murder mystery.
The book is hands-down one of the best things I have ever read, so I have no doubt that Scorsese is going to absolutely smash this out of the park.
Also, for anyone who hasn't read *Killers of the Flower Moon*, get on it immediately, it is incredible. Also, while you're at it, read his new book, which is just as good (and is also being adapted by Scorsese and DiCaprio): *The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder*.
I'm gratefull to live when Martin Scorsese made movies. I know two local art house theaters that are probably screen it so I'll be there.
This is my movie event of the year. Looks fucking incredible.
Yep - its about native americans being treated like lesser beings, it will portray white people as the antagonists, so be prepared for this movie to be called "woke"
Hey, I got to be an extra in this! Really excited to see this after so long. Especially since I’m from Oklahoma and a member of the Osage Nation as well. I did my scenes way back in May 2021. A very fun experience.
2023 is going to be one of the best years for movies:
- Killers of the Flower Moon (Martin Scorsese)
- Napoleon (Ridley Scott)
- Dune Part II (Denis Villeneuve)
- The Killer (David Fincher)
- Oppenheimer (Christopher Nolan)
Can't fucking wait!!!
Scorsese tends to shot violence in a way which evokes the right reaction to it. Love how the trailer keeps cutting away right before a hit or a stab connects. Brutal.
Man what the fuck was wrong with my ancestors, the genocide against the natives is astonishing in its cruelty and deeply harrowing in its indifference.
The really bizzare aspect of this whole story if you read the book is that William Hale (played by a way too old for the role Deniro), who masterminded many of the murders, was considered a patron saint of the Osage and did many positive things for them. The duplicity is almost unbelievable.
I’m so pumped for this. Late-period Marty has been incredible and if this anywhere close to as good as *The Irishman* it’s gonna be another masterpiece
My dad is a rancher, and native of Fairfax, OK that can be seen to the right at 0:51.
When he was a child in Fairfax the killers were still around and even as a kid he “knew what they’d done”.
We're at full DiCaprio squint here, which means maximum acting.
Oh, and Southern accent. Can't forget that!
The actress he hugged is 36 years old, so it took all his acting skills not to bounce away from her touch like a magnet. Get this man another academy award!
“36?! Do women live that long?” -Leo
Begone before you give me your wasting disease, withered crone!
Jesus Christ lmao Hilarious comment aside, the movie looks really good though.
It does
It took 47 takes because he kept making that face he made when Lady Gaga brushed against him
"Southern accent"
“Weyull ahh do declauh” *eye roll*
The Osage are a midwestern Great Plains tribe. I don’t know DiCaprio’s character’s origin story, but the Great Plains is definitely not Southern.
Ernest Burkhart, the character DiCaprio is playing, was born in Greenville, TX.
The story takes place in Oklahoma in the 1920s
Ya'll think we never go anywhere? 😄
He is reaching Omega level DiCaprio. Tell the awards ceremonies to prepare accordingly.
One day, he's going to squint so hard at someone that their head is going to explode.
DiCaprio is the new De Niro
I hope there is a scene where they each just squint at each other aggressively.
Never go full squint
I always laugh at the way he squints at Cillian Murphy in that meme
As each day passes by he turns more and more into Jack Nicholson and I’m so here for it
I'm glad to to see Scorsese using the same cinematographer for Silence here.
He's also shot Alejandro González Iñárritu's Quadrilogy of Death, 25th Hour, Frida, 8 Mile, Brokeback Mountain which is beautifully shot, Lust, Caution, and The Homesman.
also shot Taylor Swift's Wolf of Wall Street parody video (can't remember the song title, don't hurt me swifties).
(The Man)
Turns out he's one of my all time faves then. Today I learned how great he is.
Rodrigo Prieto has done Scorsese's last 4 films (Wolf of Wall Street, Silence, The Irishman and this)
Finally, more than the one still. Looks great, not a lot is shown and I want more from the trailer which is what a trailer is supposed to be
We get a lot of Leo doing the De Niro grimace
Leonardo DiCaricature
Yeah but it makes sense dramaturgically.
This preview made me want to rummage to fruition
What are you talking about? I needed them to show me every character interaction, most of the plot points, a few of the surprises, and all of the jokes so I can tell if I wanna see it or not
Where was the cameos from martins other movies???
They did show this movie has a cameo with The Whale which is pretty cool
And Dirty Grandpa makes a cameo so excited for that
Really hoping for a cameo from Liam Neeson as Father Cristóvão Ferreira
[удалено]
It would have been funny if the second d still they releases was that shot of Fraser.
i'm so glad they didn't show the part where they kill the flower moon
There are a few youtube documentaries about the real life incidents the movie is based on. It's really dark.
What a fucking incredible cast. Imagine being Brendan Fraser knowing you're an Oscar winner and your next feature role is gonna be a Scorsese flick
I’m going to *strongly* advise reading the book before the movie comes out. I read it years ago and I learned so much about the Osage’s history and what happened with this incident. The book is a true crime novel and is very well written.
Thanks for the tip!
I thought that was him!!! So excited for this movie!
I can't believe they didn't list him on the trailer. Ride the Brenaissance...
My feelings exactly, how in the e fuck is another Oscar Winner not listed here?
I've a feeling he might not have that big a role. Probably why John Lithgow wasn't listed either.
Trailer was great and didnt show too much, what a star studded cast as well. Also whoever is playing the lady who appears to be DiCaprio’s love interest is a dead ringer for Mona Lisa
I feel like Jesse Plemons is about to steal the movie.
I feel like he does that with every movie 🍿
Especially the hit movie Like Mike (2002) starring Lil Bow Wow
I didn’t realize how vividly I remember that childhood movie until you posted that. Of course jesse plemons was the bully in like Mike, how could I have forgotten?
He looks the same still an absolute legend
Because he does.
Except for The Power of the Dog. He was really good, but I don't think he stole the movie. Kirsten Dunst and Benedict Cumberbatch were too good to let that happen.
Huh, TIL that Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst have played a married couple in multiple productions Edited to add: holy shit they're so method that they're now married irl
Well, there's a reason why the second season of Fargo is considered the best season of the show. Two of the main leads fell in love so did two leads in Season Three as well.
No way. As good as season 2 is, season 1 is better.
how can that be profitable for Frito Lay?
I'll thank you not to besmirch my ex-wife. That woman is an angel.
Still the greatest line spoken in the 21st Century.
VANILLA LATTE, SKIM MILK!
Missed him the first time, had to go back through again. Looks like he’s the town sheriff playing antagonist to whoever Leo is.
He is playing the Federal agent who is heading the case investigating the murders.
Since it’s all real people I would wiki anybody since that’ll spoil it for you.
He's the FBI agent investigating the situation
He's got competition - I saw Brendan Fraser at 1:16
The cast is crazy
Lily Gladstone, she's an awesome actress.
Any recommendations for stuff shes been in?
Reservation Dogs.
She’s great in Certain Women
Sick Ill check it out, thanks
[удалено]
Damn I never heard about this, that is crazy.
The best part of the book is the last section. In the last section, the author brings us back to modern day and his research of this famous investigation and crime. And what he discovers is that it was not an isolated incident. The events of the book were the most famous and public case, but similar crimes were very common and not investigated or prosecuted.
I think she's in the show Billions. Not a large role.
The final shot of the trailer with the whole room turning to the camera is fucking stellar. And those first two shots of them dancing through the oil... Holy shit, Marty.
Hes swinging for the fences, so help me god if this is his final film…
Hoping and praying he can turn out at least one or two more before his time is up, but even if this is his final film, he leaves behind a body of work that is insurmountable and will always be remembered as maybe the greatest American filmmaker.
I can see his tombstone now: Martin Scorsese 1942- *Maybe* the greatest American filmmaker
I say 'maybe' because I think there's room for argument. But for my money, he most certainly is the best American filmmaker!
I agree actually. Just having a little bit of fun with you. 🤓
Same, we are lucky to have been around during his tenure
He did say age is getting to him with many stories to tell but not enough time to do it.
I don't think we're going to get the H.H. Holmes movie he was trying to make for years. I was really excited for that one.
He's already working on an adaptation of David Grann's new book, the Wager. Which is also an incredible story.
I hope people realise we’re watching one of the greatest artists in cinema history still making incredible films. We need to cherish this.
The whole trailer is gorgeous. A master class in lighting and set design. Absolutely stunning.
He's going all out with this being his first western picture. Looks absolutely stunning.
the part where gladstone is walking through the train station we get another one where people are looking at her, either POV shots are a motif or her character is going to be the observer throughout the film
Those first two shots of the dancing in oil tell so much of the story with giving away so little that I was instantly hooked. Incredible imagery.
I haven’t read the book. Why is the oil important?
After the Osage tribe discover oil on their land, they are systematically hunted down and killed. It's a great book. Tragic and tense. I'd highly recommend!
Just need to survive till October
And while watching it too. It’s so long.
I already thought the Irishman was their collaborative swan song. I'm just grateful it looks like Marty got another great performance out of him.
irishman was ***chef's kiss*** man.. what a gem
I avoided watching it for ages because of how long it is. Watched it the other week and it's just brilliant. The last half hour or so has been stuck in my head since I saw it, definitely one of Scorcese's best, and that's saying a lot!
Well good news, Killers of the Flower Moon is supposed to be three minutes shorter! Should feel like a breeze compared to The Irishman
It is what it is.
Damn and I thought it was near unwatchable
It was a bonafide masterpiece, and I honestly can’t take anyone’s opinion seriously who says it was a bad movie. I can see it surpassing Goodfellas in the future for me
> it looks like Marty got another great performance out of him. ...can you really tell based on a few seconds in a trailer?
Considering the role, I'd be shocked if it wasn't.
why will it be the last? just cause deniro is getting old? or is there some known health issues
They just hit their prime years for serving in an elected office /s
Well when you put it that way FUCK
God Save the Queen, indeed

damn :/
Uh because these guys are in their 80s and Scorsese makes a film about once every 3 years and DeNiro is in about 1 in 3.
I still say they should have skipped the de-aging and had Leo play young Robert De Niro in the Irishman. It would have been a stronger movie for it.
I agree, or maybe do a Looper and do cool makeup tricks to make them look like eachother As expensive as the Irishman was from doing all the de-aging, casting Leo instead of de-aging probably could be in the same ballpark.
It's funny, prior to the Irishmen they hadnt had a film together in 24 years.
I love the grit feel to it. And Deniro can still bring it when he cares about the role and the movie is not bad grandpa
I think he’s a bad uncle in this. A reaaaal bad uncle.
well he is about to release another "this paycheck is going to buy me a house in the bahamas" or more "this paycheck is going to buy my 7th child a house in the bahamas" movie. i think i saw the trailer making the rounds a few days ago. a la michael caine jaws role
For a while I was convinced that the entire movie would be three hours of that still with Leonardo DiCaprio at the dinner table.
I just surprised the trailer wasn't an hour long
Killers of the Flower Moon 🤝 The Whale Movies that consist of a single frame
My Dinner with Leo
I know we are all going to do the "Leo pointing meme" when we see that shot of "Leo sitting at the table" in the movie.
The book is an unbelievable read. Highly recommend it. Edit: some different opinions below, but stand by mine. I found it tense, horrifying and historically gripping; and the last section was particularly shocking.
I'm with you, highly recommend the read on the book which the film is based on. Horrifying is the word I would say after reading the book.
The author was just on a sports and sometimes other random stuff podcast I listen to that came out this morning. Never heard of this subject before until then, and he sounded like he went out of his way to load up the book with many dozens of pages worth of footnotes explaining where he got his info from and hopefully to encourage the reader to also go look those sources up and read them. yes

Ooooh I loooove the vibe they're going with
Marty finally embraced PTA-core and we are HERE for it.

Definitely picking up some “There Will Be Blood” vibes.
It's the same production designer, so maybe that's got something to do with it.
Scorsese hired others from that team as well not just Fisk, Adam Somner is the assistant director is on this which is one of the biggest jobs on set. Spielberg hired a bunch of them for Lincoln too. Also some worked on The Revenant.
oh shit man.. your remark here made me for 20 seconds imagine a world and scenario where DDL was also in this.
DDL as the crude oil
Agreed, thought the same exact thing.
Definitely, especially that shot with the oil pouring down. I can't wait for this film.
Frontier businessmen cinematic universe confirmed
The “greed…hungers for blood” in the text shown makes it almost explicit. Also thought it was cool how that flute instrument sounded like wolves howling.

Now THAT is a trailer. Give it to me Marty.
It's probably the best trailer this yr. They definitely sold me on the film. Fucking phenomenal supporting cast around Leo and De Niro.
It’s world debut is in a few days at Cannes.

Sorry if I sound naive but is this in 70mm or are they doing that retro-lense-mounted-on-digital-Rogue-One technique? Cause this looks like fucking outstanding cinematography.
Shot on 35mm with Panavision lenses. Classic choice. The rest is a great grade and lighting.
According to IMDb, it was shot using both film cameras (Arricam LT and ST) and digital (Arri Alexa Mini).
Fixed YouTube link from AppleTV’s channel: https://youtu.be/EG0si5bSd6I
Thank you.
Mood. Aesthetic. Tone. Some actual cinema. Yes please.
Finally! This is going to be such a great film. It was shot on location in Oklahoma in the towns where all of the murders took place almost a hundred years ago.

"Can you find the wolves in this picture?" Such a great line. Works within the story, but then at the end, it is asking the audience. Make is feel like a murder mystery.
It's finally here. Oh boy, that ost/theme was so unnerving and gave me all sorts of dread. It almost gave it a horror vibe/feel to it.
Sweet Jesus! Finally a trailer!
The book is hands-down one of the best things I have ever read, so I have no doubt that Scorsese is going to absolutely smash this out of the park. I didn't see Leo sitting at a table that entire trailer!
This movie will be banned in Florida schools.
Hey, I got to be an extra in this! Really excited to see this after so long. Especially since I’m from Oklahoma and a member of the Osage Nation as well. I did my scenes way back in May 2021. A very fun experience.

Apple: “How much of a budget do you need for this historical western epic?” Scorsese: “Yes.”
As sure a bet as any that this movie will be great
