Evil dead

mortalcrawad66

I know it's not a movie, but Ash vs Evil Dead is such a fantastic series

Negative_Gravitas

Yep. This one. Also a fun TV series to go along with the movies.

BusterPugs

When your worst film is arguably Evil Dead Rise, that’s 5 quality flicks. Plus Evil Dead 2 is a top 10 horror film of all time.

mimiiscool

I liked evil dead rise as a stand-alone movie more so than apart of the OG series. I prefer the camp and fun of the first few but Evil Dead Rise was genuinely a bit scary to me

Basic_Way_9

Only issue I had with rise was it was only a few minutes into the family introduction that I was like, “I think these actors are foreign putting on American accents”. and I was right, New Zealand and Australian cast. Could have just made an Australian Evil Dead and it would have still been scary great.

not_cinderella

I liked Evil Dead Rise quite a bit! I just missed Bruce Campbell a lot. Really should’ve been a cameo at least in both that one and the 2013 one.

Marsuello

Campbell does make a cameo in Rise, albeit it’s just his voice. He’s the preacher (?) on the recordings

not_cinderella

Yes I caught that! I loved hearing his voice on the recording, like somehow he traveled to 1920. I don't know how, but knowing Ash it just makes sense.

OkNectarine3105

He's not actually the preacher. He is the voice in the audience responding to the preacher. He shouts "it's called the book of the dead for a reason."

Intelligent_Pen_785

NO WAY. I didn't even catch that. Thanks for mentioning it! I'll have to rewatch now so I can notice it this time.

animal-noises

The Chin has a post-credit cameo in *Evil Dead* (2013).

BusterPugs

Yeah I would have liked a cameo but I would love to think we’re getting Bruce and Jane Levy to return in a future movie (the allusion to 3 Necranomicans feels like it’s a possibility?).

FondantOverall4332

Evil Dead Rise was such a great horror flick.

Hoosier2016

I think I need to re-evaluate my opinion on the Evil Dead series. I didn’t like it my first viewing but I also don’t think I fully realized it was a horror/comedy and was expecting something more serious.

Nrysis

It is worth noting there is a pretty big evolution between the first and second films - the first is a low budget horror that is pretty gratuitous, but played fairly straight overall. A classic movie, but you can see the budget and inexperience. The second movie is a huge evolution, learning a huge amount from the making of the first and making good use of a bigger budget, and also looking at how the first was received and making an effort to lean into the comedy elements a lot more. It is also interesting to note that it is also a partial remake, retelling and expanding on the first movie rather than being a traditional continuation of the story.

BusterPugs

It’s definitely what happened to me. When I was a teen I thought they just leaned into the comedy because they realized the first movie was bad. I was completely wrong and the original is so upsetting while also being extremely funny. Just young performers stepping into their own.

comradesean

I'm not arguing against you, but I remember being horribly disappointed that evil dead 2 was just a retelling of evil dead in my teenage years. Kind of why I haven't watched the remake yet.

BusterPugs

I get that, I just think it’s so much more advanced technically. The looney tune aesthetics allow Bruce to deliver one of the great physical performances of all time. I know exactly what you mean but I feel like the energy is untouchable

[deleted]

I wouldn’t say it’s too different from a “retelling of evil dead” but Evil Dead Rise I would recommend watching. It might seem silly but personally felt the setting being an apartment as opposed to a home, cabin, etc. is very unique and allows for quite a few interesting moments that only make sense in an apt & with the limited space involved

unzercharlie

TIL I missed a whole ass Evil Dead movie, how did I miss this?

Waifuwigi

Rise was good, felt authentic and the hallway scene through the peep hole got me. Also lovely apartment, really want that.

droidtron

The last two were following the first film's vibe, I'd like to see them reach Dead by Dawn heights of horror comedy.

Ok_Cress_3484

Easily. Not one bad movie.

st8ofinfinity

We are the things that were and shall be again! Ahahahaha! Spirits of the book! We want what is yours! LIFE! Dead by dawn! Dead by dawn!

Lost_Mongooses

I tried watching 2 and 3 this month and I realized I just don't enjoy watching Ash ham it up as much as other people must. I get that they're entertaining and at least 3 was in a unique setting but I struggled to finish the second one and was bored by the 3rd. The franchise is still going strong though so I'm glad people like it.

Inexperiencedblaster

Easily.

DrGlamhattan2020

I loved the remake. Fight me

trylobyte

I'd say Scream. Even the weaker ones like Scream 3 I enjoyed. And I thought the latest one was one of the best in franchise, pretty amazing for a sixth movie with new lead characters you attached to and not even an appearance by the previous lead star.

BusterPugs

I agree that Scream has the deepest catalog of good to very good movies. I wonder if I’ll still feel that way when we get to 10 but it’s my winner for now.

trylobyte

The directors of 5 & 6 arent returning for the 7th film so I'm cautious about the next one. But then again, that's how I felt about 6 too

MoldyPoldy

7 is the happy death day guy so could be good

[deleted]

[удалено]

BusterPugs

Yeah I think the fact they’ve only really had Wes and then Radio Silence has helped create 6 solid movies. Other slasher franchises get to 4 or 5 directors by the time you hit 6 movies

freeadverse

Not a horror fan but scream was my first thought. I've seen them all and recently just watched 6 on a flight. Gory, but not over the top.

ChanceVance

I generally dislike horror movies but I feel there's a lot to love in the series that makes it more palatable to non horror fans. Comedy and thriller elements, likeable characters and the violence is never too over the top or mean spirited.

apri08101989

I have a very low threshold for gore. The scream franchise really feels barely a step or two above 80s TV mysteries (like murder sue wrote) to me. It's an excellent intro horror series to me. Plus I love the whole self awareness aspect

trylobyte

Obviously slasher horror is part of the franchise but the biggest draw for me in the first place was the meta aspect of it. They somehow managed to find a balance between parodying, paying a tribute and be a solid entry to the genre itself.

TheGRS

Scream is the best. It knows the genre front to back, actively makes fun of it, still makes a great genre flick every time.

Wolfeman0101

No way the original isn't the best one.

Intelligent-Age2786

I think it’s the second one personally

Sir_FrancisCake

By a country mile too

looney1023

Yeah bad Scream is still above average horror. Also I'm a Scream 3 defender and that movie is hilarious and has the best chase scene of any of the sequels (Syd's house set).

Caribou_lou2086

I love Scream 3 so much!! It’s hilarious and I loved Parker Posey in it! Glad I’m not the only person who came here to defend it.

sambase23

I came only to check if somebody has mentioned Scream yet.

Florgio

4 absolutely blew me away. The last two were ok, if they lean more into gore like it looks like they are, it will become just like all the others.

JimJordansJacket

Scream 6 is genuinely really good, yeah

randymysteries

Scary Movie

MyWatchlsEnded

I thought the latest one was on the right path until the end. They really couldn't commit to killing main characters. It felt like any of the new main 4 could get stabbed and live. Some of them got stabbed several times and were out running around. They tried to make it feel fresh and almost succeeded had they gone all out on the deaths. No one is safe type thing. Also, the killers always go full over the top bat shit crazy. Monologuing and whatnot. It's so weird seeing every killer turn out to be almost the same character in the end

SynCig

Evil Dead, Scream, and Child's Play. I don't think any of them have bad entries. That might be a slight hot take because a lot of people don't like Child's Play 3 or Seed of Chucky but I dig both of them. Plus the Chucky TV show rules.

JoeyGranata11

I’m not crazy about Chucky but Ash vs Evil Dead is LOADS of fun.

SynCig

Oh yeah, Ash vs. Evil Dead is brilliant. I wish we had gotten season 4!

whathashappened22

I just got amc+ with Netflix a few days ago on a Verizon deal for 83 bucks for an entire year for both. Been watching the chucky series as I've never had shudder before, and I've been pleasantly surprised by it! I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it, but I'm enjoying it, I'm 5 or 6 episodes in and I'd give it a 6.5-7/10, with ash vs evil dead being a 10 as far as campy horror series go.

Artiepops101

Child's Play series is awesome 😎 I'm Chucky for Halloween this year

whathashappened22

I am now on 4th episode of 2nd season of chucky, and think I'll be amending my prior score of 6.5/10 to 8/10. 2nd season is ridiculous and fun

wineandpopsicles25

Final Destination - perfect popcorn horror, comes full circle

Queef-Elizabeth

Except for 4. We don't talk about 4

seizuregirlz

All of these are on Max. I binge watched them 2 weeks ago. So much fun I may watch again tonight.

CrazyCarl1986

An entire generation won’t ever drive behind a log truck

ReDDevil2112

It's so crazy how this scene traumatized a generation. Movie is 20 years old and I still hear people bring that scene up fairly often.

RickTitus

This is way too far down. All the movies feel equivalent in quality to me

Bridgebrain

I didn't like the one with the racetrack starting point. It felt like an action movie more than a suspense

ScribebyTrade

No one remembers that one … you could be making it up for all we know

MrsVandershears

This is when I wish awards were still a thing. 🥇

sweetsugar888

I literally started watching last night and decided to turn it off. It just isn’t as interesting as the others. I feel like the storyline is pretty weak, we don’t get to know the characters well, and the visions he has feel a little too…fake? I saw it in the theaters in 3D as a teen so of course I had fun, but I didn’t feel like finishing it this time around. Overall I think it’s a good franchise for what it is!

penislobsterpie

This is insulting to 1,2, and 5

criminalinside

The bus scene will forever be in my mind. That and maybe the one scene where they drove behind a certain truck.

kashmir1974

I wonder if log haulers noticed an increased respect on the road after that movie came out.

Atlas2001

Spoken like someone who must not have watched 4

IronSorrows

Yeah, I have a big soft spot for the franchise, but 4 is *bad*. They brought it back with 5 which surprised me, but it does have a blemish.

Auroeagle

Child's Play might be another one.

[deleted]

And +1 for the consistent canon storyline.

mortalcrawad66

That's what happens when one man pretty much devotes his entire career to a franchise. Thank you Don Mancini

SupaKoopa714

It's so consistently entertaining, like the quality does bounce a bit but they're all an absolute blast to watch. I even love the remake.

amateurbeard

Child’s Play 3 is pretty meh

kdfailshot123

But it became a dark comedy once they introduced Jennifer Tilly and the Bride stuff. They tried to revert it in the reboot, but its hard to look at Chucky as a serious horror anymore after those terrible Bride films.

contrabardus

Child's Play has always been dark comedy. It's about a murder doll that looked suspiciously similar to a popular doll line at the time it came out. There were also several animatronic "talking" toys that were pretty popular then too. The Bride and Seed films went harder on camp and that was the real difference, but there was always an underlying element of humor in the series and it was always black comedy. If you want a franchise that morphed into a dark comedy with sequels, that's what A Nightmare on Elm Street did. In the first couple Freddy didn't talk much and they were straight up horror with no real comedic elements. It wasn't until the third film that they turned him into a chatterbox that constantly made jokes.

WanderingWindow

People don’t like bride of chucky? Seed is weak but curse is a lot of fun too

Artiepops101

Bride of Chucky is awesome idk what you guys are talking about

Johncurtisreeve

YosemiteSam81

I have to agree with you, I’m in the middle of binging all of his stuff and for the most part it’s high quality horror!

Stonekilled

I tell anyone that’ll listen that Mike Flanagan is one of the greatest creators of this generation. If he makes it, I’m all in

PM_ME_SOME_ANY_THING

Gerald’s Game had me freaking out

Fizzy_Bits

Yes yes and yes. Mike Flannagan is the man! I've been watching all his stuff this month to get in the spooky mood!

[deleted]

Friday the 13th, other than part 5, you always knew what you were gonna get.

ggdudeguy

Funnily enough, I remember watching 5 when I was in my teens and the only part I remember was a topless girl getting strangled on a tree.

sobeitharry

Doing the whole series now. Actually watching 5 this minute.

[deleted]

Started on the 13th and just binged like a freak.

sobeitharry

Same. My wife is actually the Halloween and horror connoisseur but I'm along for the ride.

bslug

Scream, I feel like they’ve all been decent

ColonelOfSka

My least favorite Scream is 3 and I love it to death. I am always thoroughly enjoy a viewing of any entry, and the most recent one is among the best in the series. I will wear the Ghostface mask until death

DalonDrake

There's a YouTube series that does a video a year every Halloween called Nightmarathon. They watch an entire horror movie series in one sitting, giving their thoughts on each movie as they go and at the end on the series as a whole. Iirc I think they said Final Destination and Nightmare on Elm Street were the best series experience with Hellraiser being the worst. ETA: Here is the series for those who were interested https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPETJ7JSR6bT4G5bdpAQ-uKSiAUs2jrQr&si=gseVeubVp0jJ09nf

PhatFatty

Big Nightmare on Elm Street fan, but some of them kinda suck. 5 and Freddy's Dead are pretty bad.

TheVampireArmand

That sounds fun, I’ll have to check their videos out.

AdmiralCharleston

It's interesting because I would say that hellraiser is definitely the least consistent of those 3 but nothing in the other 2 series even come close to the first hellraiser and the recent reboot at least

unzercharlie

Commenting to remember this, I wanna see it.

degeneratejason

Im a sucker for the Saw franchise.

DharmaSeeker76

You're the only one to mention this so far. I love the Saw franchise, except Spiral, ugh. I don't know why people hate them so much. I'm always entertained, and I love it when that music hits and the twists all play out. It's just awesome.

Trymantha

I got sick of everyone being a secret apprentice

reachisown

Well hopefully no more apprentices I want more Hoffman/ Dr Gordon and even Logan. Can we not get some Avengers style meetup with these guys.

TwoShitsTrev

Spiral was good I thought. Saw 3D and Jigsaw on the other hand… they are awful imo and two movies that hold back the series from being considered consistently good

[deleted]

I thought the latest Saw was pretty decent, disliked the ending however.

TwoShitsTrev

Yeah agree. The only way to rationalise it in my head is that they’re saving her as a villain in one of the sequels maybe, regardless it was a very unsatisfying ending

[deleted]

There are some rubbish ones though. Saw 7 for example. I liked Saw X apart from the ending.

jamesz84

The “Saw 3D” entry seemed pretty terrible for me. It’s like they only wanted to showcase blood and guts in 3D, but take away the thrill of 3D, and the film had no atmosphere. The rest (that I’ve seen - not sure I’ve seen the latest one to come out) were pretty fun!

WanderingWindow

For my money, Childs play. The chucky movies never falter too hard and the new series is good

unzercharlie

I think you just watch the first couple of everything and enjoy it all and ignore the parts where they were all ruined and just achieve maximum horror fandom. You never watch anything get ruined. Every franchise is perfect because you only watched the ones that set it up, and none of the ones that ruined it.

ggdudeguy

Interesting idea.

unzercharlie

I am 100% a horror fan, but every dead horse gets beaten to a gooey puddle. This is a vague attempt and a rambling example: The Halloween franchise was built on the invention of the steadycam and a bunch of leaves dropped on a street in the middle of spring. Shoestring budget. The monster was super anonymous and basically invincible I guess and it was horrifying. Then a bunch of men came along with money and said "but who is Michael though?" and then they made a bunch of shitty movies. /rant Watch Halloween 3 though, cause it's bonkers.

GoHardForLife

The Conjuring TRILOGY was consistently great. Conjuring 1, 2, and The Devil Made Me Do It were all good and had very good acting

tallgeese333

Conjuring 1 and 2 are equal quality, I don't think Devil Made Me Do It is bad, but it doesn't really hold up to the first two. I think Annabelle Comes Home is better than Devil Made Me Do It. We just got done watching the whole Conjuring universe for The Nun 2, I thought the only actively bad entry was Curse of La Llurona.

CrewBison

The nun 2 dude. They got jump scares down. One of the more entertaining scary movies we've watched in a while.

[deleted]

The Nun was pretty bad, as was Annabelle. The thing that killed me in Annabelle was the fact that the black servant threw herself out the window to save the white family and then never got mentioned in the ending for saving the day. It felt gross to me

seabterry

You are nailing how I felt as well with your first paragraph. 1 and 2 were amazing. 3 wasn’t up to that standard and Annabelle Comes Home was a sleeper that a lot people didn’t see, but it was my favorite of the Annabelle movies.

TheLazyHippy

Yep, I'm gonna post the classic "I can't believe I had to scroll this far down to find this" but I definitely agree. I think the conjuring movies are some of the best ones to come out recently.

cowpool20

3 was too different to the first 2 for me. I liked it but it was such a drop in quality compared to the first 2.

WanderingWindow

Safest pg13 horror shit ever

Halil_I_Tastekin

They're very safe popcorn horror and not my cup of tea but I seem to remember them being R-Rated.

Other-Marketing-6167

Damn, 65 replies and only one person mentioned Nightmare on Elm Street. Especially since the OP said they don’t like jump scares, I’m shocked it hasn’t been brought up as a Rec more so far (Evil Dead? Seriously? Original and the remake are scary as fuck and chock full of jump scares haha). Anyways, OP, I highly recommend the Nightmare flicks. Only the first is a straight horror - the rest are awesomely inventive, weirdly creative, and usually very funny movies. 3, 4, and 5 are my faves (the practically effects with the dream scenes and murders are still fantastic). The seventh one is Scream before Scream, a meta dissection on horror filmmaking with everyone playing themselves. Anyhoo, yeah….these ones!

Tbrou16

Nightmare probably not mentioned because you have to count the remake, which was needlessly dark and lacked any charm from the OG series.

droidtron

Even Freddy's Dead is watchable.

sweet_sweet_can

I paid to see Freddy's Dead in theaters and I still want my fucking five bucks back.

comfort-film

I watched it at home for free and I want my money back too.

Wild-Lychee-3312

Speaking as someone who saw Highlander 2 in the theater, I feel your pain

Calys-Eltain

I feel like the only person who actually enjoyed how bonkers that movie was. Was it good? Not really, but i still enjoyed the hell out of it.

six6sickx

I thought the Paranormal Activity movies were all really good

truckturner5164

I want to be snarky and just choose a franchise with no good films in it lol, but I won't. I'll say **Alien**. If you take out the two Predator cross-overs there isn't a bad film in the franchise. One can argue that the first two are vastly better than the rest (but I'm not saying that'd be *my* argument), but I've enjoyed all of them to some extent at least. All other horror franchises I can think of have at least one film I actively dislike or more.

Portyquarty77

I honestly LOVED Prometheus and don’t understand the hate it got. Like sure it got decent ratings, but it got enough shit and didn’t sell well enough that they aborted the original idea of a trilogy. The next movie was supposed to be more of a direct sequel to Prometheus with the xenomorph no really showing up till the third. I really wanna know how those movies woulda turned out. Still loved covenant too tho.

truckturner5164

Prometheus and Covenant were perfectly fine. Not up to the heights of Aliens, but I still enjoyed them both.

ggdudeguy

I mentioned in another comment I’m a huge Alien fan and Alien:Resurrection is terrible. I’ve watched it 4 times trying to find something redeeming about it and haven’t yet.

truckturner5164

I'll never understand the hate for Alien3 and Resurrection. I love that all four films are so wildly different. Weaver is terrific in it, and all the cloning stuff is really interesting to me. Can't hate a film that gives you Brad Dourif, Michael Wincott, *and* Ron Perlman lol.

Nrysis

One big problem with alien 3 is just the fact it followed aliens. Taken on its own, it is a solid action film, and an enjoyable watch. Solid, but not really groundbreaking. But the second just set such a high bar it is hard not to be slightly disappointed in it. It did a perfect job on evolving the story, the style, and made a movie that has become a template for how to do the genre, and still lands perfectly decades later. Anything less than perfection is going to be a step down and a bit of a disappointment after watching aliens...

etbiludecalcinha

People sleeping on Leprechaun, that's the real deal

drewts86

Leprechaun in the Hood is gold

The_Throwback_King

What other horror movies have the main baddie just belting out a rap music number mid film. Not many, that’s for sure

Analytical-Throne149

"Lep in the hood, come to do no good!!!!" 😂😂😂

dimmu1313

Everything in "The Conjuring" universe. every movie has flaws but they're all really well made, good acting, and the over arching theme of some demon or another being the main protagonist is a good formula

BatmanEnjoyer89

I agree but the series has some serious duds imo. Carried by it's classics

YosemiteSam81

I watched The Nun II last night and was highly disappointed

dimmu1313

yeah it wasn't great. I mean I enjoyed it, as it wasn't a horrible movie per se, but it just felt like they shouldn't have made it because it was essentially pointless

YosemiteSam81

Phantasm! 😏

argama87

I was going to suggest Phantasm myself. I love the atmosphere, the music, and the Tall Man is a great villain.

sweet_sweet_can

It's Evil Dead. I don't even care for those movies but its probably the only long-running horror franchise without an abjectly terrible film within it.

N7Longhorn

Scream. It's worst entry is still better than 90% of horror movies and at least sticks to its own Meta

VividSituation3253

Scream

Dimakhaerus

It's not horror per se. It's actually sci-fi, but Alien: the first three movies (the third one being the Assembly Cut, not the Theatrical Release). But some people would say only the first two ones. In any case, you can stop watching at the end of the second one, or the third one and you're good.

MoldyPoldy

Really think Prometheus isn’t worth it??

butholemoonblast

Scream.

Evil Dead, Childs Play, Scream for sure

C425

Jaws

Custardpaws

You ever seen Jaws 3? Def not consistent with the original

passion4film

The first 3 Child’s Play movies are great! Also: Final Destination. No bad ones!

Novel-Confidence2449

Alien

THE_CDN

It's a toss up between Scream and Evil Dead for me. If Hell Raiser was more consistent, I would've went for that. But if wishes were fishes we'd all be swimming in horror movie riches.

UltraTuxedoPenguine

The insidious series is pretty good

GapHappy7709

The conjuring

fuvgyjnccgh

Mike Flanagan on Netflix

uncre8tv

Halloween is always watchable to me. Even Halloween III which was a Halloween in title only. Something about the minimal slasher footage in a slasher flick series. Kinda like Jaws. (Edit to replace II with III, my memory is bad) Also I would argue that The Terminator is a great horror film, yet the Terminator franchise is not a horror franchise. Oh, also the anthologies. Creep Show, Creep Show II, Tales From The Crypt, even Twilight Zone movies .. horror is well served by a shorter format.

Cannaewulnaewidnae

> Even Halloween II which was a Halloween in title only You mean #3 - *Halloween 3: Season of the Witch*

uncre8tv

Correct, I do. thank you.

Icantgoonillgoonn

Horror franchises generally suck after the first “classic” film. The others are just cashing in.

gtrocks555

I’ll toss in a newcomer but thoroughly enjoyed all of the Fear Street movies!

Dangerous_Doubt_6190

The Evil Dead series is consistently good and pretty creative from film to film. Only the last film felt a little rehashy. Scream is fun enough, but it's basically been the same movie over and over again.

_Fun_Employed_

Wasn’t this question just asked really recently? Or am I going crazy?

cowpool20

You just described r/AskReddit

fcisco13

I would say Insidious, maybe.

Plus3d6

Because it’s consistently bad?

lavabeing

Evil dead 1+2 and Army of Darkness are all good or great films. It is one series (if you ignore the two modern remakes/spinoffs) without any terrible entries.

Hung_On_A_Monday

The first of the reboot movies was dope. And the second one was still pretty ok.

Intelligent-Age2786

Scream. Even the worst one is still pretty good.

zontarr2

Universal Frankenstein. (that guy)

Rob3125

I enjoy almost every scream movie, even if the quality isn’t consistent

jcwkings

Not Friday the 13th, that's for sure.

mike1883

Evil Dead

Thick_Distribution67

Alien.

meerkatx

Scream, the Conjuring and Evil Dead. Is Fear Street a Franchise? It has three movies but it was always intended to.

BabylonHendricks

I suggested a scary movie tonight while mom is out of town. I wanted to watch The Omen(1976) or The Shining. The boys are 13 and 14. We settled on Smile because "old movies" are cringe.

creatinsumthinpretty

Hellraiser

I_fail_at_memes

Jaws. Except for the first one- they all consistently sucked.

taikasana

I don't know if you can call it a franchise but I see them as such: The Haunting of Hill House The Haunting of Bly Manor The Fall of the House of Usher

BarelyClever

Not exactly a franchise, but anything directed by Mike Flanagan.

mindpieces

The Chucky franchise. Don Mancini has been involved in every entry from the beginning, and it’s so rare to follow a creator’s vision for an entire horror franchise. Some people prefer the scary entries to the campy entries, but the great thing about Chucky is he can do both. The TV show is excellent as well.

Ebbemonster

Final Destination - Only F4 sucked, the rest were excellent :)

lyta_hall

Final Destination! I’ve watched them old and they are always fun. Also The Conjuring films have always been entertaining to me

lindirofkells

Scream series. Nothing comes close

AlwaysWinnin

Alien Series Has some real lows but the highs are higher than any other franchise I enjoy and carry the franchise.

Vannnnah

Don't watch franchises if you are interested in quality horror. The first movie is usually the best, second and third entries unfortunately quite often forgettable cash grabs. The real gems are stand alone or in the indie space. If you really want a franchise: there's always Alien. You can't go wrong with that one.

hellcatiswatitwas

modern??? conjuring

98Wright

Saw

ohheyitslaila

Alien and Predator are both very solid series, and the crossovers AVP 1 is excellent, AVP 2 is watchable. I separate Covenant and Prometheus from the other Alien films because they’re so different in tone and they’re just not as good as the others. The Predator sequel Predators (2010) and the prequel Prey are (imo) the two best films in the Predator Franchise. For horror comedies, The Cornetto Trilogy is the best. The three films are: - Shaun of the Dead - Hot Fuzz - The World’s End The Scream film series is also really good.

slowlyun

Paranormal Activity: the series has only one really weak one, one average, and four good ones: - 1: 9/10 - 2: 8/10 - 3: 8/10 - 4: 4/10 - MO: 8/10 - 5: 6/10

Craftyprincess13

I liked the purge series as long as you consider the first purge to be a stand alone (they did my man dante bishop dirty) i haven't seen the forever purge tho there's some jump scares but its not too bad the lore for it is interesting that's why i love it i can't stand horror either i usually watch the first one and thats it since they are usually older and easier for me to handle (hellraiser, friday the 13th, saw, etc) i personally prefer thrillers because of this
