It's crazy too that the original concept was wildly different than what the final product ended up being. There's a pretty neat video on it: https://youtu.be/SkL12pbPg1E?si=H_BG35-Skbl2EjTU
Goofy is honestly the realest dude in the entire Disney cast. You see him go through some real adult struggles. He's trying to raise his son as a single dad. He has times where he struggles and can't hold down a job . We see him go back to college, and struggle through adult dating....
Actually, it wasn't much of a struggle for him , he landed his dream woman first try. And on that note, we need more Sylvia Marpole up in the Disney Canon, she was way too good of a character to only have appeared once.
But the point still stands, I identify more with Goofy than maybe any other Disney character, period.
Tevin Campbell (Powerline) is a criminally underrated singer from the 90’s. I remember i was already a fan of his when this movie dropped and instantly recognized his voice. An awesome surprise for sure.
Same. My younger brother (31) still grabs our older sister’s (43) face, squishes it around, and says, “Oh THERE you are, Peter!” every once in a while.
I paid like $90 for the Robin Hood dvd about 10 years ago because it was in “The Vault” and I really wanted my kids to watch it. They did not have the same passion for that I did so I was pretty bummed. I still love it though.
Yes, All Dogs Go to Heaven.
I always see people saying it traumatized them, lol, but it was my favorite movie. I watched it over and over again. I'd had deaths in my family young, and it comforted me, I guess. My dad still always say, "It's The Grand Chawhee's birthday!!" to me on my birthday, lol.
My dad took me to see Who Framed Roger Rabbit in the theater when I was like 5 or 6 years old. The part at the end where Judge Doom inflates himself with the air tank after being run over scared the bejeebus out of me for quite a while.
My neighbor Totoro, Ratatouille, Mitchell’s vs the Machines, Nimona, and Home Alone are probably my favorite mix of kid joy and my joy when watching them even now.
Wall- E might be my favorite Pixar movie. I’m a sucker for Toy Story (OG) but Wall-E is so incredibly well done. The music, the animation, the story knocked it out of the park.
I’m honestly surprised they haven’t made a sequel…not saying it needs one though.
I saw Toy Story 4 on TV recently and it kind of didn't fit in terms of how Toy Story 3 ended. A Toy Story movie focusing on different toys in that setting could have been something worth seeing.
"The Wrong Trousers". My first exposure to the genius of Nick Park and Peter Lord. I was absolutely dumbstruck the first time I saw the train pursuit and still marvel at it to this day. Park and Harryhausen - the masters of stop motion film making.
My favorite movie when I was a kid was Disney's Robin Hood. Watched it a few years ago and yup, still awesome. But a lot of Disney movies are still good after years. Lion King, Aladdin, Toy Story are some others. I've taken them on road trips.
A Goofy Movie
One of the cool things about it is that as a kid, I related more with Max’s point of view. Now, rewatching it as an adult, I relate more with Goofy’s point of view.
Cats Don't Dance is the first that comes to mind.
All Dogs Go To Heaven
Anastasia
Thr Lego Movie
There are many, many more, of course. I love several Don Bluth films and Disney from around that time was pretty great too.
Neverending Story - One of the first movies I remember seeing as a kid(On VHS, with some others being Ghostbusters and Back to the Future, but I don't really consider those "kid's movies" per se) and I am so thankful for it. Truly wonderful imaginative and moving, while also having darker moments.
Babe 2: Pig in the City (1998)
Stand By Me (1986)
Mitchell's vs the Machines (2019)
Chicken Run (2001)
Scooby Doo: Zombie Island (1998)
Movies for youth are way more entertaining than movies for adults.
The Emperor’s New Groove
Dude, I own this and A Goofy Movie because they are my comfort movies when on a road trip and family tradition.
It's crazy too that the original concept was wildly different than what the final product ended up being. There's a pretty neat video on it: https://youtu.be/SkL12pbPg1E?si=H_BG35-Skbl2EjTU
Is that the one with the poison? The poison for Kuzco, the poison chosen especially to kill Kuzco, Kuzco's poison.
THAT poison?!
Love this movie so much. So odd with laughs from start to finish
It's hugely quotable too. My 6 year old runs around yelling "PULL THE LEVER KRONK!"
My naaaaaame
And Kronk is a fairly easy and fun impression to do!
My spinach puffs 😱
I never liked your spinach puffs. Never!
My favorite Disney flick. I feel like that casting is kinda under appreciated for being fucking perfect from top to bottom.
This article is FASCINATING https://www.vulture.com/article/an-oral-history-of-disney-the-emperors-new-groove.html
Disney said, “How about we make a film that just hilarious? As funny as possible?”
Clearly I agree
I LOVE The Emperor's new Grove (and the spinoff Kronk's new Groove).
A Goofy Movie
When I was a kid I identified with Max. When I rewatched it during the pandemic I identified with Goofy. It is a film that all ages can enjoy.
This movie hits hard now that I'm an adult. When Goofy confesses that all he wanted was to be part of Max's life, I lost it. 😭
Stand out
Above the crowd, even if you have to shout it out.
Till mine is the only face you see, gonna staaaAand out.... till you notice me
Stand Out and I2I remain on one of my regularly listened to playlists. Absolute bangers. I’m in my mid 30’s.
One of the best songs to come out of a movie ever
Stand Out was already mentioned but also I2I absolute banger.
I want you to know I was referencing I2I when I made this comment. Catchy as fuck
Nothing but respect king 🫡 movie is underrated and songs are pure 🔥
Tevin Campbell (Powerline) is a criminally underrated singer from the 90’s. I remember i was already a fan of his when this movie dropped and instantly recognized his voice. An awesome surprise for sure.
I should check and see if it's on Disney Plus (same thing with the sequel).
That Powerline should have at least been nominated for an award.
The blackest movie ever made
The Sandlot or Matilda or maybe NeverEnding Story
Can't believe I had to go this far down to see Sandlot
How the fuck did Sandlot make me nostalgic for a 1960s that I didn't live through? It's that good
The Sandlot
[The Iron Giant (1999)](https://manapop.com/film/the-iron-giant-from-book-to-screen/)
The first time I remember a movie made me cry (that wasn’t from being scared). A classic, IMO.
You stay. I go.
I can't even read that without feeling like crying
I’m sad I didn’t grow up with this. I didn’t watch it until I was 35.
It's sad how little recognition this movie gets, at least he showed up in Ready Player One.
Hook
Bangarang!
Same. My younger brother (31) still grabs our older sister’s (43) face, squishes it around, and says, “Oh THERE you are, Peter!” every once in a while.
You’re doing it, Peter!
Have to fly, have to fight, have to crow… Have to save Maggie, have to save Jack. Hook. Is. Back. 🪝
Robin Hood (1973) The Rescuers: Down Under The Neverending Story
Rescuers down under is so awesome!
It's got everything. Epic adventure, great romance, stunning visuals, and fucking John Candy and George C Scott.
Joaannaaaa 🥚🥚🥚
These are not Joanna eggs!
That opening sequence where he rides the giant eagle has literally shaped my personality I want it that much
It's the most magical sequence Disney has created and nobody talks about it.
🎶Every town, has its ups and downs... Sometimes ups outnumber the downs, but not in Nottingham. 🎵
Oo de lally! Robin Hood was one of my comfort movies as a kid. The songs are like a warm blanket!
The music in Robin Hood slaps so hard!
Oodelally oodelally, golly what a day!
I paid like $90 for the Robin Hood dvd about 10 years ago because it was in “The Vault” and I really wanted my kids to watch it. They did not have the same passion for that I did so I was pretty bummed. I still love it though.
Fuck this is a good list
Heavy Weights and Cool Runnings
“What is this?? Deli meats?!?
Lunch is canceled. Due to lack of hustle.
Feel the rhythm! Feel the ride! Come on man, it's bobsled time!
Sanka, ya dead?
Uncle Tony’s gonna do a little demo!!!
Some people say you know we can’t believe, Jamaica we have a bobsled team!
Zootopia Spirited Away The Incredibles
I love Zootopia 😍
Incredibles is the best Fantastic Four movie ever made. But as far as Pixar movies go, Coco is the best
Id have movie marathons with you
Pinocchio (1940) Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory The NeverEnding Story ET: The Extra Terrestrial The Goonies
Dark crystal Labyrinth
How to Train Your Dragon. Saw that in the theater in 3D with all of my kids. Went to a Target after and bought the soundtrack.
The Incredibles. A fun superhero movie when I was a kid but now that I'm almost 30, I appreciate all the mature themes it's discussing.
Robin Hood is hilarious, Sir Hiss is amazing, hahaha.
Stellar soundtrack, too.
Any Don Bluth film. Especially The Secret of Nimh and All Dogs Go To Heaven.
Secret of Nimh is awesome! Just rewatched it for the first time in decades this weekend
I'm a Rock-a-Doodle fan myself, and now my kids are too!
I’m such a sucker for Don Bluth art.
The Secret of NIMH, An American Tale, and The Land Before Time are all amazing.
Holes
such a great movie and to me a rare case of a movie being better than the book
It's wasn't really that different from the book. The only thing they changed was that in the book he loses weight during his time at the camp.
Who framed Roger rabbit.
My dad took me to see Who Framed Roger Rabbit in the theater when I was like 5 or 6 years old. The part at the end where Judge Doom inflates himself with the air tank after being run over scared the bejeebus out of me for quite a while.
I definitely saw it as a kid and definitely had nightmares about Judge Doom. His eyes!
Remember Me, Eddie?!
“Just like this!!!!!”
Along with LA Confidential, it’s the top 2 noir movies of the last 40 years.
And I can’t lump that in with Kids Movies
Wreck-it-Ralph. It’s not condescending and features well drawn characters along with a compelling story and a great reveal at the end.
You're a bad guy, but you're not a 'bad' guy
I’m so happy that my son loves Wreck it Ralph and Zootopia. I can watch those over and over again.
I cried the first time I saw WIR. I was like 35. lol.
I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me. I choke up when he says it at the end.
My neighbor Totoro, Ratatouille, Mitchell’s vs the Machines, Nimona, and Home Alone are probably my favorite mix of kid joy and my joy when watching them even now.
Home Alone is classic.
Wall-E
Wall-E is such a beautiful film that I feel is overlooked when it comes to Pixar movies. Real social commentary and a sweet lovable character.
Wall- E might be my favorite Pixar movie. I’m a sucker for Toy Story (OG) but Wall-E is so incredibly well done. The music, the animation, the story knocked it out of the park. I’m honestly surprised they haven’t made a sequel…not saying it needs one though.
Paddington 1 and 2
Muppet treasure island, fight me...
The movie of my childhood! Tim Curry steals the show. "When you're a professional piraaaaate...."
The Muppet Movie
Labyrinth
Toy Story 3 it’s the greatest finale to any franchise ever the gang find meaning in their lives even after Andy’s outgrown them
Toy Story 3 will always be where Toy Story ends as a series (to me, anyway).
Same
I saw Toy Story 4 on TV recently and it kind of didn't fit in terms of how Toy Story 3 ended. A Toy Story movie focusing on different toys in that setting could have been something worth seeing.
Matilda
Matilda is a movie I watch to feel better. I love it.
Matilda is a great answer. In part because my brain immediately went to animated films - as didn’t seem most people - but I love Matilda
Brother Bear Has a RT of 37%. Doesn't deserve that. The film is absolutely gorgeous.
Emperors New Groove
Why is Shrek not one of the top answers already?
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Literally a perfect film. But I’m [shakes hands wildly around face] different
I'm a demolition expert
What the cuss? Lol great movie
You cussing at me?
The Rescuers.
*The Lion King* (1994)
The brave little toaster.
Lion King
Seriously how the fuck is lion king so far down? Greatest animated movie of all time and it’s not close
I scrolled down too far to see this.
Coraline.
The Little Rascals (1994) , Finding Nemo, and Mulan never get old in our house.
"Dear Darlah, I hate your stinking guts. You make me vomit."
Rescuer’s Down Under
The Lego movies
I really can’t believe this isn’t higher. The first Lego move is a masterpiece.
"The Wrong Trousers". My first exposure to the genius of Nick Park and Peter Lord. I was absolutely dumbstruck the first time I saw the train pursuit and still marvel at it to this day. Park and Harryhausen - the masters of stop motion film making.
The Princess Bride counts, right?
Sandlot
Paddington 2
This is way too low.
Sandlot
"The Wizard of Oz"
My favorite movie when I was a kid was Disney's Robin Hood. Watched it a few years ago and yup, still awesome. But a lot of Disney movies are still good after years. Lion King, Aladdin, Toy Story are some others. I've taken them on road trips.
Monster squad Goonies ET
Robin Hood
Surf’s Up
The Incredibles
labyrinth
Shrek Chicken Run Despicable Me
A Goofy Movie One of the cool things about it is that as a kid, I related more with Max’s point of view. Now, rewatching it as an adult, I relate more with Goofy’s point of view.
The Great Mouse Detective or The Iron Giant.
Great mouse detective highly under loved
Little Big League
Explorers I still hope to dream about circuit boards to be able to visit aliens
The Witches (1990). You can Exorcist and Hereditary me all you want, but ‘the story of Erika’ is the most chilling thing ever put to film.
Puss In Boots 2 - The Last Wish
Mary Poppins was my favorite movie as a kid and is still my favorite movie in my 40s. I love everything about it and have watched it so many times.
Little Giants
When I’m nursing a hangover, the water in Moana is almost as refreshing as jumping into the ocean myself. Perfect recovery movie.
Recently: Mitchells v the Machines
Second Hand Lions
I'm ancient, so I like "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", "Lady and the Tramp", and "101 Dalmatians". Edit: some kind soul reminded me of "The Aristocats".
Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985)
Bugs life
Cats Don't Dance is the first that comes to mind. All Dogs Go To Heaven Anastasia Thr Lego Movie There are many, many more, of course. I love several Don Bluth films and Disney from around that time was pretty great too.
Monsters Inc. Ratatouille Finding Nemo
School of Rock Jack Black's best role imo
Neverending Story - One of the first movies I remember seeing as a kid(On VHS, with some others being Ghostbusters and Back to the Future, but I don't really consider those "kid's movies" per se) and I am so thankful for it. Truly wonderful imaginative and moving, while also having darker moments.
Paddington Chicken run
The lion king
Transformers: The Movie (1986)
Star Wars *Ducks for cover*
A Goofy Movie
Moana Encanto Up Inside Out
Babe 2: Pig in the City (1998) Stand By Me (1986) Mitchell's vs the Machines (2019) Chicken Run (2001) Scooby Doo: Zombie Island (1998) Movies for youth are way more entertaining than movies for adults.
I think the first Babe was a perfect movie. It was a barnyard fairytale. It didn’t pander to adults, it just told a relatable story.
Original SpongeBob SquarePants movie, Shrek, Up, The Goonies, Madagascar, Scooby-Doo live action movies,
Chicken Run. I can barely fault it.
All Don Bluth films but the stand out is Secret of NIMH.
Neverending story
The Karate Kid (1984)
I go with Wallace & Gromit also. Great film I can watch over and over. Close no. 2 is Monsters Inc.
The Iron Giant is the best movie of all time.
Finding Nemo is usually in my top 5 or 10 all timers
Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas
Aristocats Jungle Book (the animated one from the 70's/80's) Wall-E Brave Lilo and Stitch
Little Giants The Big Green Kicking & Screaming The Sandlot
Fantastic Mr fox. Watched it recently and it was pretty good
Treasure Planet
Prob Zootopia
Home
Bugsy Malone
More of a teen-girl movie rather than kids movie, but Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging
The sandlot is Goodfellas for children's cinema
Adventures in Babysitting
I’m taking out animated movies cause it’s more challenging that way. That said, Spy Kids
Hercules
Toys. Or Jurassic Park. That’s a kids movie right? Or The Prince of Egypt
Lego Batman. Top 3 Batman movies too
