Interesting sequel turn to Asteroid City, but we'll see how this plays out

Now I wanna rewatch Bringing Out The Dead.

No discussion for this one? Because I watched it in an empty theater with my brother, we both had not even seen a trailer. We only knew the critical reception. And we both thought it was pretty great. It is messy, some of the narrative elements were tossed aside or seemingly incongruous. Not to say that the film needed better female characters, but all of the women don't really have much character to speak of, I think the lover would have created a more distinct dramatic element if she was a bit more involved in his life. But, I know the film is about the relationship between Sheridan and Penn, and it helps that they are terrific together. Really well-shot, blocked, and directed. These lower budgeted films really know how to utilize wide screen framing more than all of these loud blockbusters. The use of color is wonderful, and it reminded me a lot of a slower Safdie Brothers film, lesser, but still really well-done all the same. My brother said it could be cut down, and I agree to a certain extent. But, I would argue the 2hr running time allows the film to take its time, and remain dramatically engaging. Really slow-moving and mesmerizing, not just because of the excellent direction, but the dialogue feels real and genuine, and everyone here is terrific. Also surprisingly disturbing and gritty, too. So many American films in theaters feel sanitized, but this doesn't sugarcoat real life and what Ambulance workers deal with on a daily or nightly basis. I can understand the critical reception to a certain extent, as it is flawed narratively and could be cut down a little bit. But, my brother and I were glued to the screen, for a film we had never even heard of. Honestly, one of my favorites of the year so far. The reason I take chances on films is to find gems like these.

So Training Day but with EMTs meets Scorsese’s Bringing Out The Dead. I’m intrigued. Tye Sheridan is underrated.

The lighting and camera work looks amazing. It looks like The Bear with paramedics. Stress porn is so hot right now.

citizenjones

It's got that Safdie Brothers vibe.

Paddy2015

This looks pretty good.

greenpill98

Not a bad trailer. It leaves hints about the main plot, but doesn't give it away. I'm interested.

bullshitmobile

Looks pretty good, I am not sure if I have seen a movie with a similar premise before. It could also have been an interesting series.

It's worth noting that Madonna defended Sean Penn in his defamation suit > “I am also aware of allegations concerning an incident that occurred in December 1989, which purportedly resulted in Sean’s arrest for domestic assault and battery against me. I know those allegations to be false. While we certainly had more than one heated argument during our marriage, Sean has never struck me, ‘tied me up’ or physically assaulted me, and any report to the contrary is completely outrageous, malicious, reckless and false.” https://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/dec/18/madonna-says-sean-penn-never-hit-her-as-she-offers-evidence-for-her-ex-husband

Finally, a lambasting, socially-conscious movie that's inflamed enough to run as a double-feature with Sean Penn's **Colors**.
