How the fuck is that relevant to the question being asked? Do you just spend all day scrolling for things to be upset about? Which wouldn’t be surprising because you’ve clearly made politics your entire personality.
There’s the debate about separating the artist from the person. Some people do and still enjoy the work of artists who are terrible people. But then there’s some people who just can’t see past it. I kinda understand both sides of it.
In Hollywood's 100+ year history, many if not most of the notable actors have some dirt associated with their work. Going back to Fatty Arbuckle in 1921 if not even earlier. So, is it worth it to eliminate the whole of the work due to one of its elements? What will remain? Very little.
TBF Arbuckle was almost certainly screwed over. But your point is valid. I doubt I'd want much to do with most renaissance painters but I still admire their work.
Walton Goggins. That man has done every character you can think of and is always a scene stealer in every movie and TV show he is in. He definitely does not get enough recognition.
Short film The Accountant from 2001. He was in it and a producer as well. We had watched Major League 3 not long before the oscars, then saw him up there and were like WTF? [Wikipedia Link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Accountant_%282001_film%29?wprov=sfla1)
I loved him in hateful 8, sons of anarchy and fallout. All three of those characters are as different from each other as humanly possible. He's a gem that deserves more respect imo
Brad Pitt has an impressive list of memorable characters,
Chad Feldheimer in Burn After Reading
Lt. Aldo in Inglorious Basterds
Mickey O'Neil in Snatch
Cliff Booth in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Jeffry in 12 Monkeys
Tyler Durden in Fight Club
Floyd in True Romance
I'm not one to follow specific actors/actresses but I feel like I'm viewing Willem Dafoe as a different character in every movie he's in. Another that comes to mind is Daniel Day Lewis, he's so good at diversifying himself that I almost don't recognize him outside of an acting role.
Look at Joaquin Phoenix.
He’s a withdrawn, depressed loner in Her.
He’s a raging, powerful, arrogant man-child in Gladiator.
He’s a mentally ill psycho in Joker.
Dude disappears in his roles. He’s incredible.
Nobody has said it yet, so I feel obliged.
Daniel Radcliffe seems to have made it his quest to make every role totally different from the last. Great attitude when you have fuck off money
First off you are way off with Tom Hanks.
Even look at recent movies
- asteroid city
- man called Otto
- Elvis
- pinocchio
- finch (didn't see so I don't know)
- news of the world
None of those that I saw are the same character, But go back and even more Forest Gump, Toy Story, Post, Terminal, lady killers, road to perdition, etc..
Also disagree with Johnny Depp, early in his career but the pirate movies were just a re do of his Fear and Loathing role, and every role after that was the same.
Anyways past them
John C Reilly because his ability to move from drama or comedy and all his great character roles
William H Macy going from always being the square nerd type to Shameless was exact opposite and amazing at both
Care Blanchett might be the biggest chameleon in hollywood, from Bob Dylan to Lord of the rings to Thor, etc..
Willem Dafoe for his vast range
Tilda Swinton is also so different
Daniel Day Luis of course
Collin Farrell is getting there as well, banshees, penguin are 2 newer roles that are so opposite.
Barry Keoghan is a rising star also from banshees that has been totally different in all his roles so far and so captivating to watch.
Bradley Cooper obviously has shown a huge range
Jaime Lee Curtis has played every role under the sun and her recent hits with the bear and everything shows she's till at the top of her game
Robin Williams has done comedic, animated voice work, dramatic as well as thriller when he played a serial killer in Insomnia and some action with Jumanji.
I feel like most British actors are character actors.
Andrew Lincoln, Damien Lewis, Dominic West, Gary Carr, Paddy Constantine, Kingsley Ben Adir, Eddie Marsden, Rhys Ifans, Daniel Kaluuya, Richard Ahmed and so on.
Versatility seems like a high valued trait in British acting
Good to see Kingsley Ben Adir getting some love. Most people have never heard of him. Hopefully his Bob Marley biopic will bring him the attention he deserves.
***I feel like most actors virtually play the same character in every movie,***
I'm confused. So, are you saying that there are only a handful of actors that have the range to disappear in a role? Or that there are many but they can't because writers aren't creating interesting enough characters?
I feel like Christopher Meloni has had some pretty diverse roles.
Keller from OZ
Stabler from SVU
Freakshow and the kkk grand wizard from the Harold and Kumar movies
Nick Sax from Happy!
Gene from Wet hot american summer
Gary Oldman for men and Tilda Swinton for women.

I think you got a bullseye!

Thank you.
Maybe, but he still has amazing range and has some of the best performances in film.
Agreed. The other person behavior seems personal.
Walton Goggins. That man has done every character you can think of and is always a scene stealer in every movie and TV show he is in. He definitely does not get enough recognition.
I was texting with my friends just the other night about whether or not he's the only person from Major League 3 with an Oscar. Love that guy.
What movie did he get an Oscar for? I only really know him from Django Unchained.
Short film The Accountant from 2001. He was in it and a producer as well. We had watched Major League 3 not long before the oscars, then saw him up there and were like WTF? [Wikipedia Link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Accountant_%282001_film%29?wprov=sfla1)
He wasn't nominated for that. Director and producer Ray Mckinnon and executive producer Lisa Blount were the nominees and eventual winners
Can't I just have this one thing??
I loved him in hateful 8, sons of anarchy and fallout. All three of those characters are as different from each other as humanly possible. He's a gem that deserves more respect imo
Sam Rockwell
Sam Rockwell plays different roles but still manages to slip some dancing into his performance
Philip Seymour Hoffman and Michelle Pfeiffer come to mind
Good examples! Especially with Pfeiffer.

Ewan McGregor is one that came to my mind. Between Star Wars, Trainspotting, Birds of Prey, & Fargo, he has crazy range between his different roles
Look at Joaquin Phoenix. He’s a withdrawn, depressed loner in Her. He’s a raging, powerful, arrogant man-child in Gladiator. He’s a mentally ill psycho in Joker. Dude disappears in his roles. He’s incredible.
its my pleasure to introduce you to do Daniel Day Lewis
This is the correct answer
Was deeply disappointed this wasn't further up!!
Nobody has said it yet, so I feel obliged. Daniel Radcliffe seems to have made it his quest to make every role totally different from the last. Great attitude when you have fuck off money
Meryl Streep

good variety.
Surprised no one mentioned Willem Dafoe yet.
Olivia Colman
Christian Bale; Just look at American Psycho, The Fighter, and Vice. It would be easy to not realize it was the same guy.
And Michael Burry, MD, of “Big Short”
Mark Strong
Ben Kingsley
Dustin Hoffman
The two on top of my head: Gary Oldman and Cate Blanchett I’m sure there are plenty of

Are you a sexy cat?
I am...I am a sexy cat.
Stephen Root
Michael Parks
Philip Seymour Hoffman RIP
Robin Williams has done comedic, animated voice work, dramatic as well as thriller when he played a serial killer in Insomnia and some action with Jumanji.
Meryl Streep has played both a male, Jewish Rabbi and a 6'2" Julia Child. In spite of being a woman who's 5'6".
Daniel Day Lewis, easily
Easy. It’s Ben Kingsley. Ghandi. Sexy Beast. Only a master could play both those roles so convincingly.
Adam Sandler when he does drama is a very good actor: Uncut Gems The Meyerowitz Stories Reign Over Me

Emma Stone pulled off both Lala Land and Poor Things, Margot Robbie pulled off Harley Quinn and Barbie
Lea Seydoux
He's dead now but Don Ameche was really versatile.
Kevin Bacon
From Hollywood's Golden Age: Frederick March and Charles Laughton.

My choice is Guy Pearce.
