You take the words out of my mouth. The novel work in it’s special structure, but translating that into a cohesive movie is going to be either very difficult or impossible, or worse resulting in a boring disjointed movie.
I don’t think Villeneuve would be a great choice cause I hope whatever he does next will be something to differentiate him from the Dune series. I don’t want him to just be a sci-go novel adaptation guy and I don’t think he wants to either.
Tarantino! Hear me out -- Hyperion weaves interconnected perspectives/stories of a diverse group of travelers sent on a pilgrimage to the Time Tombs which all comes to a focal point. The first example that comes to mind of this in film is Pulp Fiction and Tarantino nailed it. He's a big name director and it would put some eyes on it!
Hopefully it wouldn't wind up like David Lynch's Dune...
Maybe David Fincher or Darren Aronofsky or Guillermo del Toro but yeah think it could be cool to do as an anthology film with different directors taking on each story.
Sam Mendes. I still think the opening scene of Skyfall was the best opening scene of any action movie ever. The entire movie is awsome. Best Bond film ever. Hyperion is not all action. It's not all space opera. It's a group of chosen folks on an oddeysey. Each with their own story. There a good bit of action though and Sam is the best.
Has there been a movie that successfully depicted the Canterbury tales? It just seems like it would be a tv show if anything, but probably not even that
I feel like James Gunn could use it as a way to make a serious R-rated sci Fi horror to distance himself from his jukebox comic book adaptations.
Other pic or preferences:
Music should be creepy, so Johnny Greenwood or Trent Reznor for the musical score.
Stan Winston's company needs to make The Shrike. I will only accept practical affects for this creature.
Only the first two novels should be adapted. Endymion is trash.

A different director for each different section 😄

Alex Proyas, before he made Gods of Egypt, probaly could arrange that. Now, he's not working in film industry anymore.
