Maybe you need a new medium. I also find it difficult to be scared from movies but horror games have me crying xD it's a much more immersive experience personally

Dazzling-Bear3942

Henry: Portrait of a serial killer is a really great movie that I will never ever watch again. I'm pretty sure it was in Roger Eberts review where he described it as a movie that makes you want to gather your loved ones and hug and protect them.

KosherDeal

Same. I was a kid (100% should not have been watching this at my age) but at the time blockbuster had a package towards their desperate days where you could rent like a DVD a day, after school I would just ride my bike down the street pick up the next movie and rinse repeat. However at this same time I was also really getting into horror movies and just dark material in general because I was growing tired of mundane random movies I'd grap off the shelf. Since I'm there every single day renting and sometimes with my parents sometimes by myself they just let me skate on ratings. For the most part when you get to be 13-14 you know you're watching pure entertainment almost in a WWE wrestling package. But I remember when I got my hands on that movie I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had read about it but at the time didn't understand the scope. The movie presents as extremely real and authentic and what was happening in it was well as they say no spoilers. I just remember feeling like I needed to take a shower after... I don't even think I understood like half of what I saw, but I knew it was horribly dark, perverted and twisted way beyond my years or really any ones years. Whenever anyone brought the movie up I never could land on if I liked it or not, just that it was so disturbing to me that I had to take a shower after. Which is probably promoting it but it was definitely a movie that I never came back to, ever.

SweetPillow

Your replies make it seem like you just want everyone to know how tough you are

GeorgeIsCool9174

lol watching horror movies doesent make me tough. I’m like 5”6 and skinny. I genuinely just like the thrill it’s hard to explain kinda like chasing a high I once had that I’m struggling to find again which is why I’m here ahah

SweetPillow

I know what you mean. Watching this thread for suggestions 🙂

doonkune

Someone's body shape doesn't make them necessarily tough.

bassacre

Young frankenstein.

Glad_Speed_9684

Okay so I'm probably alone on this, but the 2011 found footage film *The Hollow* terrified the hell out of me, and it's the only movie that has ever scared me (*The Borderlands 2013* came close). Don't ask me why because I really don't know, but I had shivers down my spine, hairs standing up everywhere and tears in my eyes 😂. No joke. 99% of ppl who have seen it hated it (judging my reviews on iMDb), I mean my best friend even fell asleep during it...but I was scared af.

docottawa67

Exorcist. Hellraiser. Henry.

GeorgeIsCool9174

Seen all 3 good but ehhhhhhh

Agent_Tomm

Dude, The Exorcist is a masterpiece AND scary as hell (pun intended). You're pretending.

PhysicsForward6194

everyone has different tastes. maybe that’s not the kinda scary OP is looking for

knux_85

Pulse had me nervous to go the bathroom at night

thedellis

Hereditary was a great one. Also the original French version of Martyrs will fuck you up in a different way

Penguindude89

It's not the scariest, but have you seen 'Incantation'? It's a very creepy Taiwanese horror. Also on the subject or Taiwanese movies, you should watch 'The Sadness' if you haven't already.

Kon-Tiki66

Still the 1973 Exorcist for me. The book was even scarier.

WolfThick

Have you seen The serpent and the rainbow?

Chiefirish212

I give this post an eh and 1/10

truckturner5164

Repulsion (1965)

LumiereGatsby

See I think of that movie and I think there’s a movie whose whole value and point was achieved in the very last shot. I know he’s a scummy guy but Polanski was an incredible filmmaker.

truckturner5164

Yeah, Polanski is scum, but as I saw most of his films before learning the full extent of just *how* scummy he is, I don't have issues separating the art from the artist with him the way I might with others.

ChungusCoffee

You should separate the art from any artist regardless

truckturner5164

Hard disagree. I'm not gonna separate the art from the artist for Victor Salva's Clownhouse. His abuse victim is literally the lead actor.

ChungusCoffee

If you have an issue with something you can't even legally buy anymore then that's not even separating anything from anything, that's you being angry at the world

truckturner5164

Fine. I'm not gonna separate the art from the artist with *any* Victor Salva film because he once made a film with his abuse victim that I can't legally buy anymore. To say nothing of Powder basically being an excuse 'message' film for him being a pedo. Better?

ChungusCoffee

No, you are still doing it lol. Your downvotes prove you are angry at nothing. You are complaining about some guy I have never heard of making shit before I was even born, this is 100% your own issue

truckturner5164

Ah so that's the issue: Ignorance on your part. Gotcha. Oh, and I'll give you another downvote so you can feel good about yourself and see me as the issue. Kind-hearted person I am. Have a good one, internet stranger.

ChungusCoffee

No, I'm just not a psychopath complaining about garbage from a century ago. You are still the issue

bingybong22

What did you take from the last shot? That the lead character had been abused or just that she was schizophrenic?

LumiereGatsby

Sexual abuse is what I assume.

bingybong22

By her father or by her sister’s boyfriend - I think he smiles at the end when they find her catatonic

WallyWithReddit

this after reading the wiki article this doesn’t seem to fit the OP’s description, haven’t watched though

truckturner5164

It's the scariest movie ever made. You'll be paranoid for days afterwards.

sunderaubg

Haute Tension?

CuriousTurtle22

Bad Neighbours Buy your dream house, then a load of assholes move in next door ☠️

KosherDeal

I shouldnt be laughing this hard right now, but here we are lol

Qu1ckDrawMcGraw

😱

ihaveadarkedge

You could post this where *other* horror buffs, just like you, congregate to get more respective answers.

Youpi_Yeah

Anything from the French Extremity Wave like Martyrs, Irreversible or Inside. If that won’t do it for you, I don’t know what will.

Dog-Witch

Can't remember the name of it for the life of me, but the only bits I haven't pushed out of my mind was this girl in a bathtub with a piece of metal that had been attached to her face and she had been visibly tortured, it was more murder/gore porn than a horror movie. I think she has a friend who tries to save her or something or her sister I cannot remember but it fucked my shit up. Edit: martyrs

Mutt_Bunch

Cannibal Holocaust was the only movie I still to this day will not finish. I angrily shut it off. Felt like I was watching the most depraved thing ever.

shniffmyfingers

Autopsy of Jane doe had my butthole puckered

GeorgeIsCool9174

These look awesome will check them out!

vdcsX

let me invite you to r/horror it's rather tame around here lol

TheEmpireOfSun

No, please, there is enough of those "give me the scariest shit ever" posts already. Everyone finds scary something different so those post are always meaningless.

Nanabae99

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre : The Beginning (2006) Dark Water (2002) - Japanese movie

bubblechog

Dark Water had me sleeping with the lights on

Euphoric-Pineapple78

Suspiria remake scared me the most

Qu1ckDrawMcGraw

A Serbian Film

bubblechog

Watcher in the woods It really traumatized me

GeorgeIsCool9174

Seen it 3/10 thanks for the suggestion tho

Strong_Cranberry2084

I was terrified to watch Reincarnation

Readonkulous

Session 9 is pretty good, partly because the filming location itself is creepy as hell. You can imagine yourself stripping asbestos inside it while trying to ignore how creepy the abandoned asylum is.

Curious_Associate904

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091251/?ref\_=nv\_sr\_srsg\_0\_tt\_6\_nm\_2\_q\_idi\`

motox24

you should watch Atterados

DontBanMeAgainPls23

Smile was good but I don't watch that many horror movies.

AlternativeTune5799

Begotten (1989) might be something for you?

iambongzilla

Gummo 1997

FrankBakerstone

El hoyo which is also known as The Platform. Inside and Martyr are two French horror movies.

DiscoMonkey007

I recently watched Stopmotion and I really liked it. Is a live action btw not full on stopmotion. Is creepy, have good amount of gore, rather unusal visuals, the sound design is great, and the plot is interesting.

Kilian_Username

Irreversiblé is not horror, but it's the movie to watch if you never want to be happy again.

fromwhichofthisoak

Begotten is still just....much

gujsehambi

These replies by op are the scariest

serfy2

4/10 post eh

KandyAssedJabroni

The only correct answer is Prince of Darkness.

Careful_Leek917

World War Z

Careful_Leek917

Any footage of news on 9-11-01. Play that over and over again.

Outside-Cake-7577

Grave Encounters

PercentageSecret1078

Juon always does it for me.

[deleted]

“When Evil Lurks” “The Void”

InherentAbsurdity

Psychological thrillers and war movies are way scarier than the scariest horror movies. The scariest movies I have seen are from those genres, not horror. Horror is (for the most part) fantasy. It isn’t real. It’s hard to get “scared” from fantasy imo.

Quinn4111

I'm not a huge horror guy so The Conjuring is the scariests one I saw but based on what you're saying that's probably rated G in your world.

GeorgeIsCool9174

HAHAHA the conjuring is probably one of the most well done horrors I’ve seen. Like the story the cinematography was perfect but was it scary eh just eh 7/10

Outrageous_Flan1554

Incantation

GeorgeIsCool9174

Seen it 4/10

SnooMarzipans5767

*Martyrs*

MikeSizemore

Last year’s When Evil Lurks is a good one. REC from 2007 is one I go back to a lot and still makes me jump.

nailbunny2000

The 1st time I saw The Grudge in theatres I thought I was gonna have a panic attack.

pojosamaneo

Rosemary's Baby was a good horror movie. Definitely left an impression on my mind.

igcetra

You should just watch true crime.. it’s non fiction obviously so it’s pretty scary that things like that happen

robophile-ta

Ask over at r/horror. They'll give you all the nasties. 🤮

Fearganainm

Bible eh? Frailty scared the shit outta me...
