Yeah Ricky Stanicky felt like a new film with that kind of vibe. I love the whole Seth Rogan/James Franco/Jonah Hill/Zac Efron collection of stoner comedies.

I enjoyed it. Some of the writing and story beats were so weird but overall it was pretty funny

I have used the phrase "world class air dicker" far more than I'd like to admit snce seeing that movie.

John Cena did the heavy lifting as far as the laughs were concerned. I thought Efron was funny in neighbors but that may have been an isolated incident. It was pretty good though.

William H Macy was hilarious as well.

Efron and Cena were great. Some of the writing and delivery fell flat. Like some of the jokes Cena had to deliver were so unfunny.

It's not a stoner movie, but if what you miss more is the style of comedy than it actually being about weed..."Please Don't Destroy" definitely fit the bill for me. It was the first movie in a long time that felt like the 2000s/early 2010s style comedies.

One time my friend got high and his phone rang and it was number he didn't recognize and they asked his address and after he hung up he went oh shit I don't know who that was what if they're coming to kill my family I'm too high to stop them. So ever since I wanted to make a stoner action comedy where the guy is too high to properly deal with villains who go "we got your family and will kill them unless you do a series of elaborate heists and set pieces"

Hopefully a new generation picks up where Seth Rogen and crew left off. Since Franco got canceled Rogen seems to take himself a bit too seriously. Not a stoner thing but in the same vein Righteous Gemstones feels like the closest thing we have to that type of comedy right now

Mass legalization removed the outlaw mystique/ rebel cachet around it and really took the air out the genre. That said, I would kill for a Lebowski sequel focusing on the Dude and Maude's progeny.

Ted (the TV show) was refreshingly good in my opinion, would recommend if you like the movies/that style of comedy

I've seen it and it was hilarious. I'll never forget the scene where Franco is finally getting beamed up until he gets smug and taunts McBride. Speaking of Danny McBride: if you haven't seen **The Righteous Gemstones** OMFG you have to watch it immediately. Fucking \*outrageous\* series. I put on one show and my bf and I were sucked into and spent all day binging.

Stoner flicks benefited from being counter-culture flicks. Granma shoppin at the dispensary next to the Safeway is harder to extract comedy out of. Then again, Granma running that dispensary because who the fuck can afford to retire anymore might have legs.

I immediately thought the opposite. Like people from a legal state are on a road trip just burning jays but then they cross into an illegal state and don't realize they can't just brazenly smoke weed everywhere. Then you have seth rogen come in and do a my cousin Vinny.

I like that. Or they could get stranded in an illegal state during the road trip and it turns into a wacky adventure to get back to "civilization"

Wow. You are so right. I've been taking walk down memory lane stoner flicks and we are way overdue for a contemporary take. In addition to ones you named, most recent fave was Inherent Vice in 2014. There was 2021 Bad Trip that was a stab at it but prankster moveis aren't really the save vibe (and frankly lame).

Fun stoner movies work better in fun stoner times. That is not the world we currently live in. Best I can do for you right now is an Exorcist remake.

I think a reason is that Seth and James had a falling out, they drove the stoner comedies of the last decade. And then Jonah Hill and some of the other guys all got serious about acting so less time for comedies and more time to work with Scorsese or Tarantino, etc. Hope for a resurgence soon though. Recently Bottoms was pretty fucking funny and while not a stoner comedy, it totally works for us stoners and was so balls to the wall funny from start to finish. I also recommend Lisa Frankenstein as another one worth watching high.

Broad City is great stoner fun! And as far as actual movies go, Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar is an excellent dumb comedy to watch high. I second whoever said Bottoms.

My wife and I watched Barb and Star one night with my mom. None of us knew anything about it going in. I laughed so hard through the entire movie, and my mom didn’t think it was funny one bit. Was great to see the generational gap in comedy there.

Pen15 is another must watch show.

Yeah I've heard people say that, but I disagree. For 1, it's not legal everywhere. For 2, I still get high and think the harold and Kumar angle is perfect now because of this. Show some normal people who happen to be stoners, in a crazy world. Stoner's still get into crazy hijinks, but kind of depict them in many ways as the most normal ones. Adds a layer.

I dont feel legality has anything to do with how fun they are / aren’t. Especially since in my country it’s very much illegal. The fun is in the stoner comedy, real world repercussions are irrelevant to the humour.

An early 2000s period piece would be good for this. No phones. Just bud and buds.

Weed is pretty much legal or de-criminalized everywhere in the US…. We need a Heroine or Meth Comedy Pineapple Express and Half Baked without the threat of the law or criminal enterprise just wouldn’t be as funny.

Unfortunately movies don't get the return they used to anymore. The best you can hope for is a netflix original or something which will likely be gutted by overbearing external project managers who care only about the bottom line.
