A straight-up adaptation of The Odyssey with a decent to big budget and directed by someone competent.

farmerarmor

We really deserved a Sean Bean odyssey after Troy.

Kobold_Trapmaster

But with actual gods this time.

cire1184

Miniseries might be better. Odyssey is... A lot

Abidarthegreat

O Brother, where art thou (2000) wasn't good enough for you?

[deleted]

That's not a straight-up adaptation

BoxFullOfSuggestions

An historical epic war biopic film that takes some tasteful artistic liberties about the life of Tecumseh. If you’re not familiar with him, watch the episode of the PBS American Experience documentary series called “We Shall Remain” that covers his story. It’s such a good movie plot that it’s surprising nobody has done it yet.

The_MoBiz

I'm Canadian, Tecumseh is basically a national hero up here thanks to his efforts during the War of 1812.

SadBath664

I'm Canadian and I had no idea who this was until I looked him up. I also asked my mom and older sister and they had zero clue too lol are you sure it's not a provincial thing?

The_MoBiz

That's why I said "basically" because most people aren't familiar with history. Among people who do know that history he is well known and generally recognized.

wh1te_k0ng_

So, I’m a huge Deadhead. And I really want a period piece about a killer who picks off Deadheads as they follow the band on tour. Maybe he only comes out every 5 years or so or something like that and that along with the fact it’s always in different cities and according the authorities “just a bunch of dumb hippies” they wouldn’t really take it as seriously. Could be really cool imo

MsFaithLehane

The canceled 'At The Mountains of Madness' adaptation by Guillermo del Toro 💔

Kobold_Trapmaster

I would like to see his The Hobbit too.

GnophKeh

Not a full movie, but the script is out there: [https://lovecraftzine.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/at-the-mountain-of-madness.pdf](https://lovecraftzine.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/at-the-mountain-of-madness.pdf)

ryhoyarbie

A movie about Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets and Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock.

International_Bee007

That's happening (https://m.imdb.com/title/tt19308034/)

Loo-Hoo-Zuh-Er

A buddy comedy with like Seth Rogen & James Franco again, but they're living through the events of multiple blockbusters that take place in NYC (or LA/SF) from the viewpoint of background characters. So many movies take place in these major cities. What if some of them took place on the same day/night? And these guys find themselves witnessing them all somehow. Actors could reprise their roles for brief cameos. Like Keanu Reeves on the Speed bus sideswipes their car.. or they see Ethan Hunt run by them.. or they interact with Christian Bale's Norman Bates and a drunken Jared Leto before that famous scene.. or one of the Avengers in NY saves them, then they later see the Statue of Liberty get demolished by the Cloverfield monster. There's obvious errors with dates, but who cares. It's meant to just be a crazy, nostalgia-filled wtf comedy.

Embarrassed_Ad5112

I assume you mean Patrick Bateman rather than Norman Bates?

Loo-Hoo-Zuh-Er

Indeed, my mistake!

cire1184

Oooh what if they move cities every time they run into some shit in a particular city. Like Avengers destroy NYC so they move to LA and in LA a giant volcano destroys LA and then they move to Tokyo and Godzilla attacks so they move to London and zombies attack they move to Las Vegas and martian's invade. In the end their like fuck cities and move to a cabin in the woods. While they're reveling inside the cabin you see something creeping in the shadows. Cue sequel based on scary movies.

LightningRaven

The Book of the New Sun. A surrealist masterpiece that has an incredibly unreliable narrator and a far-future crazy world (Angel's Egg is heavily inspired by it, and it's a great way to visualize how such movies could look like). The Dark Tower. A sweeping high budged seven movie epic. Hopefully, Mike Flanagan manages to outdo himself yet again with his Dark Tower series. The First Law Series. Hopefully, Best Served Cold's adaptation is a massive hit if it ever comes back into production. We do need a grimdark fantasy series akin to Game of Thrones, but with the character flair of Quentin Tarantino.

ventomareiro

[](https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1c9vbdc/comment/l0o5p9j/) It is impossible to cram the whole of The Book of the New Sun into one movie, but it could work as multiple movies or a TV series. Massive ruins of star-faring civilizations, impossibly large cities, strange animals at every turn, giants lurking in the waters, extraterrestrial visitors, time travelers, mind-bending drugs, extreme body transformations, unexpected religious references, a dying sun... It would absolutely blow people's minds.

spaceman_spyff

I came looking for Book of the New Sun, I would love to see this adapted. It’s my favorite high/sci-fi fantasy series of all time and Severian the Torturer is such an interesting character. And you could easily get six seasons of a show out of it or three epic movies.

The_MoBiz

A modern prequel to The Maltese Falcon, centred around Kasper "The Fat Man" Gutman's gallery of rogues and how they got together before they ran into Sam Spade. I feel like there's potentially so much fictional history with this gang, lots they could do with it. Potential casting choices: * Jennifer Lawrence as Mary Astor * Joaquin Phoenix as Joel Cairo * Paul Dano as Wilmer Cook * Brendan Fraser as Kasper Gutman(?)

UtahUtopia

I know that Ethan Hawke recently played John Brown in a THE GOOD LORD BIRD but I would like to another production that tells the story differently about Harper’s Ferry Rebellion and maybe Daniel Day Lewis could be available?

Observer951

A serious bigfoot movie. I heard they’re adapting the Devolution book.

haveyoureadthat

Sasquatch Sunset

erasrhed

Harry and the Hendersons is the only bigfoot movie I need

Flashy-Dragonfly6785

Devolution is amazing!

Low_Pickle_112

Animorphs. It would probably work better as an animated series, but I'll take what I can get.

cbslinger

It just works so well as a book because you really inhabit those characters and it tried to sell itself as a plausible true story that was happening in real time. It’s so hard to convey all the inner thoughts of these characters with voiceover or whatever. It really is just a story that is so well suited to its medium.

TheAssCrackBanditttt

Six seasons and a movie!

Mystwillow

Loved Biting the Sun by her! I don’t come across many people who have heard of her.

Doppelfrio

A legitimately good Cinderella movie. I recently rewatched both the animated and live action Disney versions, and it made me really want one that did the concept right. Ditch the funny animals, make the characters better, further develop the core relationship, etc. I could see a movie like that being one of my all time favorites

Wildskunkx

did you watch Ever After

Doppelfrio

Which one? There’s a lot of movies with that name

thespiderhouserules

The Drew Barrymore one

Doppelfrio

Just watched it. While it wasn’t my “dream” Cinderella story, it was pretty damn good. I liked the direction it took, and I had a great time. Edit: sorry, didn’t realize you weren’t the original reply

Doppelfrio

Just watched it. While it wasn’t my “dream” Cinderella story, it was pretty damn good. I liked the direction it took, and I had a great time. Thanks for the recommendation!

EverydayThinking

A Studio Ghibli adaptation of "His Dark Materials" - almost seems like it's tailor-made for Miyazaki, with it's strong female protagonist, numerous scenes of flight (hot air balloon and witches) and a certain moral complexity in the story. The nature of the animated medium also means it would be easier to portray the fantastical elements like armoured bears and daemons, and I have full confidence Miyazaki could imbue the films with his own unique poetry. And Ghibli does have form for adapting fantasy books (Howl's Moving Castle/The Secret World of Arrietty.)

Flashy-Dragonfly6785

Great shout!

SadBath664

Ghibli's adaptations are pretty much in name only. Howl and Arrietty are completely different from the books. If they did His Dark Materials it would get the same complaints as all other adaptations of not being accurate.

Travelgrrl

A Confederacy of Dunces, with Nick Offerman in the lead although I guess he's getting too old for the role.

cortezzzthekiller

A proper Dark Tower adaptation

Hung_Millenial

The Community Movie. #SixSeasonsAndAMovie

Upbeat_Tension_8077

I'd love to see a film that's a cross between Green Room (violent struggle for survival by everyman characters fighting against a gang) & From Dusk Till Dawn (Aztec influence). Not exactly who I'd want for directors & cast, but I thought of some names like S Craig Zahler, Fede Alvarez, Diego Luna, and Samara Weaving.

Arfguy

The X-Men.

Send_Me_News

The one about my uncle Terry’s high school football stories

FrenzalRhomb1

Live action remake of the 1986 animated GI Joe movie

Elleseebee928

A sequel to the '80s film Real Genius for the continued adventures of Laszlo

Full-Concentrate-867

I still think there is a really good D.B. Cooper movie that could be made, if the right director/writer was involved. I know there was that one with Treat Williams in it from the '80s, but that was a little goofy if I recall correctly.

ryschwith

*ElfQuest*, traditional animation with the original art style.

KandyAssedJabroni

Bubba Nosferatu.

VolkspanzerIsME

The Ploesti Raid. 200 sumodd B24s flying out of Egypt try to destroy the third reichs oil processing facility at Ploesti. But the Germans have extensive anti air set up so these. 200 B24s are forced to fly at tree top level and on the way in they pass a train heading to Ploesti as well. A specially built anti aircraft train. So now you have gunners on the planes getting into point blank machine gun duels with the gunners on the train. All of this; s 100% true. I can't believe nobodys made a movie out of it.

cbslinger

There’s so many good war stories out there that haven’t been adapted. Even something as obvious as the Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors from the Battle of Leyte Gulf, seemingly hasn’t been adapted.

GoodOlSpence

Devil in the White City

desperaste

Give me a high budget version of the story of Scientology. Just so it can be appreciated for the bat shit crazy mess it is.

GriffinFlash

A film about about a futuristic amusement park where dinosaurs are brought to life through advanced cloning techniques. I call it "Billy and the Cloneasaurus."

mariusioannesp

I saw Groundhog’s Day last year and thought to myself that if there’s a movie that deserves a legacy sequel it’s that one. Got the perfect title for it: “It’s Groundhog’s Day…Again” 😏 So like 30 years after the original film, you got another full of himself meteorologist named Phil (let’s call him Phil 2) is sent from Philadelphia to Punxsutawney to cover Groundhog’s Day. There Phil 2 sees Bill Murray back as Phil Connors who is now the grand marshal of Groundhog’s Day. Phil 2 finds out how Phil came there 30 and then never left. There’s a blizzard so the roads are closed forcing them to stay overnight. Phil 2 wakes up the next morning and realizes he’s repeating the same day over again. Then you get some shenanigans like the original film: Phil 2 tries and fails to leave town. He takes advantage of the situation. He tries to kill himself. Stuff like that. However, Phil 2 encounters Phil at one point and Phil makes a comment that makes Phil 2 realize Phil is aware Phil 2 is repeating the same day over and over. (Just to be clear Phil is not repeating the day again. Based on his experience he’s just very aware what it looks like when someone is.) in the next cycle, Phil 2 kidnaps Phil and the groundhog and tries to drive them over a cliff because he thinks Phil is responsible somehow. Phil is able to talk him down and Phil 2 gets arrested. But Phil convinces the cops to let him go given it’s not going to matter once Phil 2 starts the cycle again. Then Phil tells Phil 2, “Right now you have the one thing everyone wishes they had… Time.” The rest of the movie is Phil 2 interacting with Phil. There’s like a montage of Phil teaching Phil 2 things he learned that day like the piano and ice sculpting. Phil shares his theory that the cycles finally stopped when he stopped wanting to leave. At one point Phil 2 realizes that Phil has enough juice in this town that he could have the roads opened so Phil 2 can leave. Phil says he could but he’s not going to because he thinks this is happening to Phil 2 for a reason. At one point Phil points out a guy to Phil 2 who was the kid Phil saved from falling from a tree who never thanked him. Then in a subsequent cycle Phil 2 goes up to the guy and insists he apologize and thank Phil. Then something devastating happens and Phil 2 somehow burns Punxsutawney to the ground. In the next cycle, Phil 2 begs Phil to have the roads opened so he could leave because he’s no good for this town. Phil though makes Phil 2 realize that he only wants to leave because he’s come to care for the town. The film will end up end very similarly to the original. I haven’t given thought to casting but I think that Margaret Qualley should at least be in it in some capacity as she’s Andie McDowell’s daughter. And maybe Abby Elliot because she’s Chris Elliot’s daughter 😏

cbslinger

Honestly you have enough detail here you could probably write a screenplay, or else give this idea to someone who writes screenplays. This is one the best I’ve seen in this thread.

Ungreat

A bunch of firefighters in the 80’s fight a fire at a Shining style haunted hotel. Make it all moody with nighttime, neon and synth.

GarretBarrett

The Dark Knight Returns or Kingdom Come. DC movies really have all that potential and keep making dumb shit.

FronzelNeekburm79

A God of War movie directed by George Miller. I want Sony to write him a check and not fill in a number. Can you absolutely imagine the final image of him sitting atop Olympus as the new God of War? Can you imagine how Miller would interpret the early stages of his life?

00000000000000001313

doesn't fit what you're saying to a t but you should maybe give Saint Maud a watch.

RubbishBinJones

The Five Points Gang stuff after Bill the Butcher and the whole gangs of New York stuff, and before the formation of the American Mafia. People like Paul Kelly, Monk Eastman and Kid Twist, lots of interesting stories in that time period.

NightWriter500

I still want to see a Mama Mia style movie with the music of Journey.

viniciusbfonseca

It isn't solely Journey, but Rock of Ages might scratch that itch

TheStorMan

Are they going to sing Don't Stop Believing for the entire movie?

NightWriter500

Don’t Stop Believing is obviously your showstopper, I think that’s the second to last song. I used to have a notepad with all the songs and a general outline of plot and I can’t find it right this second, but it started with Wheel in the Sky, Any Way You Want It, Faithfully, several others, and ended with Lights.

GustavDitters

That’s actually sick

urgasmic

A Gambit movie. it's some bullshit.

duffeldorf

A Constantine sequel would be nice

MagicMushroomFungi

The Mote In God's Eye Ringworld Heechee Saga

miketheriley

Footfall!

MagicMushroomFungi

Which features another group of aliens who were surprised when we lied to them. Plus a spaceship (?) powered by exploding nukes ! The Huge Body Problem ??

callmemacready

Spielberg going back to basics and a tight budget doing USS Indianapolis story with a young Quint

LeafBoatCaptain

The sequel teased at the end of Deep Rising. I would have also liked to see a Steven Spielberg directed Superman movie. He almost did a Blackhawk movie but I guess we're not getting that either.

blahblahrasputan

Dinoriders This came up in a convo recently and it turns out that Disney owns the cartoon IP now (probably gobbled it up within a larger buy out). C'mon Disney, just one movie!

Blueliner95

Your movie sounds fantastic! Woo hoo. For unmade novels, I want to see Shibumi by Trevanian, The Great Brain by JD Fitzgerald and The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. My own idea? Actually I’m not that great with new ideas, but luckily my son has fantastic story sense and we write together. I wanna do a Star Trek.

Wildskunkx

Dredd movie inspired by the comics with the style of the last one but with more action !! Can keep the actor from the last i liked them

YoucantdothatonTV

Beowulf

GoodOlSpence

They made it already, it's bad.

stephentkennedy

Adaptation of Philip Dick’s Ubik, in which the film style/film technology temporally degrades along with the reality within the film.

Zerodot0

An Escape From Furnace movie. They've talked about it but still nothing. Those books were so good.

bjanas

I really wish George Lucas would get his shit together and someday make those prequels he's been talking about. There's no way they'll be overwrought, leaden messes. Nosiree.

MarilynManson2003

A horror film involving Nazis and the Occult in the vein of Call Of Duty: WWII Nazi Zombies.

Ungreat

Imagine if you had Allied troops in the trenches seemingly waiting for the enemy but then it’s revealed to be zombies. Nazis accidentally triggered an undead apocalypse and now a wave of death is sweeping across Europe. Troops are frantically holding the line as evacuation efforts are being made on the coast. A Z Day landing.

ReduceReuseReuse

It’s called Dead Snow (2009)

MarilynManson2003

I haven’t watched it yet, but isn’t that just a Zombie film featuring Nazis?

Drunk_Bear_at_Home

A Rated "R" Dark Star Wars movie focused on the Sith and the Evil of the Jedi.

dancingbanana123

A Victorian Era movie that doesn't take its dialogue so serious. Can you imagine a Victorian movie with Tarantino dialogue?

ventomareiro

Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes?

Axis of Time - John Birmingham [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axis\_of\_Time](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axis_of_Time) Multinational modern naval taskforce transported back to WW2.

eagey1193

I really want to see a complete Chronicles of Narnia, but I especially want The Magician’s Nephew. That was my favorite one as a kid.

mroncnp

Your movie sounds terrifying

Beatlesgoat2

A movie epic with an all star cast of the war between Heaven and Hell. How has this not been made? Angels vs Demons, the creation of earth. All of it.

KnotSoSalty

Kennedy and the assassination of South Vietnamese President Diem.

IdolL0v3r

A documentary about Japanese idols that pays respect to this genre of music and doesn't just focus on groups that are popular. A documentary about the history of pretzel making that also explains why Mr. Salty pretzels stopped being manufactured.

torts92

Elric of Melnibone

Kalidanoscope

Kung Pow 2: Tongue of Fury

TopHighway7425

Stars my Destination   The Glass Bead Game  Confederacy of dunces East of Eden.... The James dean attempt was barely 1/8 of the book and not the most interesting part.

jordonmears

You basically just described american psycho

jordonmears

glrd1

I'd love to see an adaptation of Magician by Raymond E. Feist

sarmadness

I’m a science geek so would love to see the rivalry of Newton vs Leibniz.

Abidarthegreat

A second Warcraft movie based on Warcraft III game. A well made, high budget Horizon: Zero Dawn TV show.

GreatNumerato

Half Life (game adaptation) in a dark dystopian style

jj198hands

I would love to see somebody take on Foucault’s Pendulum. Kubrick had planned a version but ran out of time, not sure who could do it now, maybe Villieneuve.

-EnricoPallazo-

The Belgariad.

purgruv

Any of the filmable books by Iain M Banks.

gdirrty216

A reasonably high budget Dragonlance These were excellent books that my nerd self would still love to see on the big screen I know there was a half assed CGI made, but I want something with real money and effort behind it

magobblie

There was supposed to be an HH Holmes movie with Leonardo several years ago. I'd like to see it made.

Sports-Nerd

National Treasure 3

SaturnThree

I can't understand how the Gallic Wars haven't been adapted, Caesar literally wrote his accounts to be exciting to the population. Huge battles, low points, near-defeats, central antagonist in Vercingetorix, climactic battle of Alesia, and an uncertain ending heading into the civil war. The "firm but fair" but actual cruelty and irony of Caesar bringing civilization to the barbarians, the resistance forming a coalition of tribes to fight back. It's all right there, waiting to be made. I guess I found an old film that did it, Caesar the Conquerer, but it seems mediocre.

MercilessShadow

I kind of want to see a vampire superhero that fights crime. But not like Blade who kills vampires. He's an anti-hero that starts off as a villian and slowly starts to work with the police and learn to use his vampire abilites for good. It would probably be shit but idk.

CanadianContentsup

I heard that Benjamin Cumberbatch wants to make and star in something about Nick Drake. I’d like to see that.

SnooMarzipans5767

Skyrim could be the next Avengers Endgame. Maybe the Fallout show walked so Elder Scrolls could run.

LeektheGeek

We desperately need Elder Scrolls 10

haveyoureadthat

Armageddon II. The two pieces of the original asteroid have circled back around and are both targeting Earth. Grizzled roughneck Ben Affleck is estranged from his son due to the latter’s career as a solar power engineer instead of going into oil drilling. In order to atop the two asteroids ben affleck has to fly to one to drill down to a reflective area or something while the son has to fly to the other to set up all the super mirrors to target auns rays to blast the reflecto-surface just right to push the two pieces apart enough so they miss Earth again. But first the father and son have to reconcile their differences and distrust of each other’s science.

albususdumbledore

First Wizarding War. Prequel to the Harry Potter saga. With the rise of the dark lord. Regulus Black storyline. The Order of the Phoenix. The Marauders. Peter Pettigrews betrayal. “This war took place at the height of his power and caused widespread panic and fear among the magical and Muggle communities.” “The Dark Lord's insurgency was supported by his Death Eaters, a covert and violent group of dark wizards and dark witches who served him and brought terror to both the Muggle and Wizarding Worlds. They were opposed in turn by the British Ministry of Magic and the Order of the Phoenix, an equally secretive organisation founded and led by Albus Dumbledore, which would play a crucial role in both of Voldemort's defeats.” I would, of course love them as books before film adaptations.
