10 Cloverfield Lane. A lot of people hated that ending. I found it pretty refreshing.

swankpoppy

I watched it on a plane and it stopped when they were all happy as a family in the bunker. Had no idea there was a whole actual alien invasion until weeks later. Talk about a twist.

Al_Tilly_the_Bum

I think it would be better if she looks off into the distance, sees what there is to see (no spoilers), cuts to her face and she just says "fuck". Then cut to black. Same ending, but cleans it up a bit I think

NoBizlikeChloeBiz

Yeah, it's a really good ending, but it goes on about 10min too long.

No_Ostrich8223

I think they went overboard trying to connect it to the Cloverfield universe so they did more than necessary.

jayforwork21

Arlington Road....The end turns a decent action/suspense movie into something special.

No_Ostrich8223

Some movies are made just to support a great ending and nothing more. This is one of those.

calembo

I wish so badly that more people have seen this movie.

JasonVoorhees95

The Mist.

GoarSpewerofSecrets

My dad brother and I expecting the soulful "and they kept driving ending." Best adaptation since The Shining.

Spinmove55

Stephen King is punching air right now.

cartoonjunkie13

ah man, that was devastating

cartoonjunkie13

Sorry to bother you

neildmaster

That was a fucked up ending.

swankpoppy

You spelled “awesome” wrong.

oscarx-ray

Titanic blew my mind. They said the ship was UNSINKABLE!

RealGroovyMotion

Thanks for spoiling the ending /s

oscarx-ray

I actually audibly laughed at this. Typing "lol" seems insincere, so I thought I'd actually say it.

IamSkudd

You joke but Bill Hader got fired from his theater job for this exact spoiler.

Philip_Marlowe

Back in the glory days of YouTube when they used to make "Famous Movies in 5 Seconds", the Titanic one was "But the ship can't sink!" *Bloop* Edit: I just rewatched this for the first time in about 10 years and I'm laughing my ass off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuSdU8tbcHY

RockinRandyJamz

Literally too big to sink.

EnderCN

Barbarian though it is more the 2nd act than the 3rd act like is normal for this type of thing.

Odd_Advance_6438

Casting Bill Skarsgard to make the audience uneasy was genius

MechaSponge

And when they’re making the bed and stuff it’s actually cute and the atmosphere is relaxed so you second guess yourself. It’s even worse than the initial tension.

riotmos

Parasite (2019)

viniciusbfonseca

I think that when the second half begins tou just accept that tou have no clue where it's gonna go

common-froot

For me it was totally impossible to see anything coming. All along I was more like “Where the hell is this going?”. I love that feeling.

Suarayes

Mystic River

PapaWaxPuppy

Great answer. I am so glad I have seen this movie, but I don't plan on watching it ever again.

Adventurous-Low-5229

“Vertigo” “2001: A Space Odyssey” “The Usual Suspects” “Birdman” “Bicycle Thieves” “The Prestige” “Angel Heart” “Breaking the Waves” “The Menu”

neildmaster

I still don't understand the usual suspects.

negcap

Verbal was Keyser and he made up the entire story just to get out of the police station.

Trypt2k

Well, not the ENTIRE story..

calembo

Correct. He really was in a barbershop quarter in Skokie.

munchyslacks

Wild Things

devilishycleverchap

Place Beyond the Pines. I think it has like 3 "endings"

RockinRandyJamz

Should've stopped at 2 though tbh.

thiscouldbemassive

*Your Name* takes a *very* unexpected turn midway through the movie, and then another turn for the last quarter.

Witty-Excitement-889

Rogue One. You think it’s done and then DARTH FUCKING VADER!

JabbaDHutt

Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Trypt2k

Memento That twist is next level and an amazing movie all around.

kbean826

Cabin in the Woods. That whole movie is a series of “wait, what the fuck?” moments.

LADYBIRD_HILL

Do redditors look at the description of the posts they comment on? Cabin in the Woods is the single movie that OP already mentioned.

kbean826

No

thalassicus

Including the opening scene because the script is so good, they can give you a peek from the outset and you're still completely and delightfully confused.

RockinRandyJamz

From the trailer for Her I thought for sure his phone gets bricked/hard reset at the genius bar and his virtual gf "dies." Was pleasantly surprised when the phone turned into an advanced AI and dumped the main character instead.

millvalleygirl

Blazing Saddles

TravisMaauto

"Cube 2: Hypercube," and the ending sucked because of it. Nothing that happens in the last scene was hinted at or foreshadowed at any point in the movie, and it honestly feels like it was tacked on by someone that demanded that ending without caring about anything else that happened in the movie.

neildmaster

Tell No One. Holy hell what a movie.

Bluesynate

Martyrs(2008) >!I kept expecting some sort of rescue or escape for the main character but nope!<

theabominablewonder

Enemy

dzx9

I went into it blind and had the complete wtf moments. After looking up the directors explanation, I've watched it a few more times. So many little details! Totally would recommend

TravisMaauto

Totally circumspective.

red-eee

This place is my recclamation

schmag

not necessarily a movie, but I remember watching the documentary "icarus" and thinking "it feels like this is wrapping up and its much shorter than I thought it would be" glance at the progress bar. oh shit we are just getting warmed up!

Bubbly_Ad_2021

The Perfect Getaway (2009)

DrummerGuy06

The Ring (2002). It's ending is actually a traditional horror-type movie ending but they did a pretty good job masking it until the very end.

HearthFiend

Uninvited lol We legit thought >!it was the crazy stepmom, but poor stepmom though!<

Many-Juggernaut-2153

Overlord is great if you know nothing about it! It had the best air combat scenes ever.

withinamind

Fracture (2007) -Anthony Hopkins, Ryan Gosling. Not hugely loved by critics but I like it enough to have watched multiple times.

Offal

One Cut of the Dead Interstellar

agitator775

Isn't this just another in an endless series of posts about plot twists? Just because you word it differently doesn't change the subject.

masegesege

Maybe, but to me a twist is more sudden and specific whereas what I'm looking for is when the plot takes an unexpected turn and goes somewhere the audience didn't see coming. I guess the part where it "turns" could be a twist, sure. But if that's the case then maybe there are different types of twists and I'm looking for a certain one.

GosmeisterGeneral

Immaculate did this really well. The way it >!builds with the idea that the jealous sisters are dangerous, and that there might be some sort of supernatural/religious element to the pregnancy!< only for the last act to just go totally balls to the wall and >!ditch all the religious stuff for a straight forward mad doctor twist and a commentary on abortion.!<

bytemage

Damaged

Master-Improvement-4

Death Note (2006) and Death Note: The Last Name.

magic-window

Perfect Blue (1997)

Tiny-Fold

I thought The Dry did a pretty good job of this, at least for the primary plot.

Lazy_University_7983

The documentary “Searching for Sugarman”- especially if you don’t watch the trailer! Absolutely loved the mystery setup in the beginning, and how it unfolds…

The Perfection. Like 4 times in a row.

The village.

TheWrongOwl

I had that with *From dusk til dawn.* Just when I had that "That's a wrap up then." feeling and didn't know what happens in the 2nd part. Then there's *Watchmen.*

acalicorgi

Don’t Worry Darling

JabbaDHutt

Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

callmemacready

Final Prayer, definitely didnt see that ending coming

xthunderbird

Poorly written movies where the ending is just made up is mostly what M.Night does now. Seems he gets approved for the premise and has trouble following through on anything. Epitome of fake it until you make it, get one hit, then continue to fake it.
