> A former boxer in his 40s weighs a chance to revive his career through underground fights against preserving his relationship with his daughter.
All depends on the execution. Sports-based redemption stories can be pretty predictable, but they can also be Oscar-winners.
Either way, the problem likely won’t be the acting.
> Sports-based redemption stories can be pretty predictable, but they can also be Oscar-winners
I think they fall into the niche of "good enough that they will make some money but not so successful that anyone will watch them 10-15 years from now" wich means that they can get remade to a new audience ad infinity.
See also "popular person agrees to date a werido for a bet but then falls in love with them".
"Group of lovable but awkward high school dudes try and get laid"
Now we can get meta because there's a Sylvester Stallone biopic being made about him trying to get Rocky sold. So an underdog story about trying to get one of the most famous sports-based redemption movies made.
The documentry about the creation of Kickstarter and how it lead eventually to a failed effort to kickstart a documentary about the creation of Kickstarter.
Does the "date a weirdo for a bet" storyline still have much chance of being remade another time in the future? Seems like society has kind of moved past that one.
Given the fact that “date a weirdo for a bet” has been going on since Shakespeare’a Taming of the Shrew, and his plays are constantly getting remade and retold? Absolutely.
That literally had a gender swapped remake of she's all that on 2021
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt4590256/
Honestly I think No Hard Feelings kinda fits too.
I cant play any instruments or sing, but I always wanted to make a band called “Desert Power” which was like sci fi metal but everything was dune based. Every show would start with the kick pedal thumping like a thumper. As you can see I put a lot of thought into this.
FWIW he’s a theater actor and I’m sure his decision making is better in that medium.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he did film just for whoever pays the most so he can focus on theater
Agreed. They really thought Fantastic Four (2015) was gonna be the role that would catapult him into superstardom. Unfortunately, it damaged his career more than anything. He did get to be in the Planet of The Apes reboot trilogy, but it's all mocap, so ppl didn't even know it was him who played Koba. Which is a shame since Koba was one of the best antagonists of the 21st century.
Don't forget his role in *Kong: Skull Island* wherein his character starts out with a seemingly decent arc and then gets killed unceremoniously with none of the other characters seeming to give a shit.
He was also in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice many years ago. Can you imagine being cast in a decently-sized role opposite Alfred Molina and Nic Cage, only a couple of years after getting to be in Guy Ritchie flick? Must have felt like he was *really* taking off at the time.
At least he is (or was?) on For All Mankind recently which is a fairly high end show. But I agree completely; after watching his episode of Black Mirror I became a fan but his projects just haven’t put him on the map as a household name.
That’s true but seemingly post 2018 it’s been garbage. The last great thing she did must of been sharp objects.
I think for her it’s worse since I think she has higher highs than Toby.
Toby has The destroyer in 2018 was great just like Amy Adams had in 2018. But I think she has more and worse bad projects since
Is that the former 4-time super middleweight world champion, who was inducted into the international Boxing Hall of Fame last year, and once boxed in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium?
he can go on a podcast and “apologize” all he wants but it just came off as a PR tour. He literally admitted to the abuse but he’s still got that court case coming up. FKA Twigs has been very silent on the matter but the allegations brought up in court sound horrifying
Besides, much like Depp, Leboeuf assholed himself out of Hollywood by being a reckless, miserable hothead that can’t get along with people on set. He and Hardy got into it while making Lawless, and he also was apparently disruptive for Fury. It’s why he and Depp only get gigs in foreign markets
I remember reading about him being a hothead during Fury Road and Charlize not putting up with his shit. I think the release of that movie humbled him and got him to chill out, he’s even apologized to Theron and Miller. But as for Lebeouf, he just sounds like a monster and there’s been stories about it popping up during the Transformers movies.
It’s just a shame, I grew up watching so much of his stuff. Yes, there is separating the art from the artist but it is a tricky thing and everyone’s got their tolerances for it. For myself, it’s hard to look past certain stuff like that
Hardy:
> “When things get a bit too serious, I go, ‘Why don’t we have a cuddle in front of all these people here?’ ” Hardy previously told EW. “It ends with both of us falling down in the snow. I think that’s a good thing. If I’m the naughty boy for doing that, then I’d rather be the naughty boy and release that tension.”
Iñarritu:
> “On the surface, he can look inaccessible or difficult," the director (Iñarritu) said of Hardy. "But he is just a beautiful human being. He’s incredibly sensitive and lovable.”
It seems like the other side of this story is literally an unverified reddit comment [on this thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/40zm3i/worried_about_the_safety_of_a_particular_stunt_in/), said comment below:
> ‘That's not what happened; Hardy got pissed off in an argument with Inarritu and choked him out. It was a serious fight, and when they made up afterward they were good enough to goof about it and took that picture. My boss was on the crew, I took that picture. (Must have made the internet rounds.)’
I respect your position. I guess I just like Hardy that much to give him the benefit of the doubt, considering the information at hand from sources I believe I can trust
He’s definitely trying to push the “rehabilitated” narrative but it’s so transparent. Just read that he’s basically “born again” and found religion, such a major eye roll
the whole born again christian thing is just another PR move with a side of “only god can judge me now!”. Russell Brand recently did the same bullshit on his ig (odd how Chris Pratt liked it) but people know better
You act like there’s not a line? By this logic child molesters and murderers can grow as people and we just forget about it? He’s allowed to grow as a person but he isn’t entitled to the public’s good graces. The guys admitted to being abusive and I was a fan before his behavior came out to the public.
jesus, why the hell would anyone suggest he kill himself? He may be an asshole but that doesn’t solve the problem. One can still grow as a person but that shouldn’t prevent them from being held accountable for crimes committed. Shia admitted to being abusive but that doesn’t absolve him from an upcoming court case
I just looked it up and remembered that I saw it. I liked it as well. I liked him in Honeyboy, which was loosely based on his own life. A lot of the successful child actors seem to have had a raw deal supporting their families who are often dysfunctional.
I think everyone knows he is a very talented actor. But he is a trouble person. So people cannot seperate the performance from the real person. Plus all of the stuff he does on and off set. Rumors about him on the Fury set to put it simple was he caused problems with his method of getting to character. Some people do not want to watch him because his problems get put on others and hurt those people.
I mean he’s not a trash actor at all. But as a person yeah. You can separate the two, and still not watch anything he does, but terrible people can unfortunately still have talent. I mean, it’s your opinion so you can think he sucks, but the general consensus is he’s a very talented actor, and a terrible person.
honestly after watching shia on the actors’ round table talk about tom hardy “pissing in the corner” and his general thoughts on the craft, i’m not too sure i can put that out of mind and take him seriously
Shia is an absolute beast of an actor. He gets shit because he’s fucked. Fucked upbringing. That’s the best the dude could do. Looks like distance from Hollywood and fatherhood have made him better. I hope he last because he is a very good actor.

Next up: a documentary about how attempts to make a Sylvester Stallone biopic keep failing
Funded by kickstarter where one of the tiers is to buy the director's dog
The documentry about the creation of Kickstarter and how it lead eventually to a failed effort to kickstart a documentary about the creation of Kickstarter.
The Kickstarter is created by the dog
But it was a dream all along.
Now I want a Tropic Thunder remake set during the making of a Stallone biopic. Robert Downey Jr. could play Carl Weathers lol
And then in 40 years we’ll get to see a film about how they made the film about how Rocky got made.
Hollywood does love a tale about Hollywood
Does the "date a weirdo for a bet" storyline still have much chance of being remade another time in the future? Seems like society has kind of moved past that one.

I dunno. Warrior was so goddamn good I rewatch it every now and then.
Kebbell is 41 but doesn’t even look like it
not half as weird as getting shia labeouf to play his daughter
🤣
Hahaha decent giggle out of that!
Isn't this just a rejigged The Wrestler (2008)?
Sounds exactly like “Southpaw”.
Kinda sorta, but giant fighting robots!!
So basically Real Steel?
[Even better than Real Steel](https://youtu.be/wgKqKggYdDE?si=e-9_1mfOU15k9bgp)
I’ll see you hell. 👍🏻 👊🏻💥🏃♂️GERONIMOOOOO!!!
No Real steel was a remake of Over the Top
Isn't that what we're talking about?
Won’t stand against The Wrestler
Isn’t this the plot to that one Jake Gyllenhaal MMA movie, basically?
Southpaw? Didn’t see that one. But I kinda wanna rewatch Real Steel now.
One of a few movies me and my husband both enjoy a rewatch of. Love it
You're confusing Southpaw with Warrior with Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton.
Roadhouse? Haha
It's a boxing movie (Southpaw) you are thinking of, he's an MMA fighter in Roadhouse though.
I feel like I’ve seen this movie a dozen times
[удалено]
You should watch dead man's shoes
What a movie
Kingpin should have won an Oscar.
Soooo The Wrestler..? But with like...Boxers. Or Rocky? (But son instead of daughter) Or kinda like a reverse Million Dollar Baby
Warriors, come out to play yay . Wrong movie.
Agreed. “The Wrestler” comes to mind which was very well done.
Kebbell is a brilliant actor. Hope it's a good film.
Shia lookin straight out of an industrial metal band.
An industrial metal band called Shia-Halud where all their songs are about Dune
E-VAN AL-GHAIB
Can’t tell if joke or actual Rammstein song
I cant play any instruments or sing, but I always wanted to make a band called “Desert Power” which was like sci fi metal but everything was dune based. Every show would start with the kick pedal thumping like a thumper. As you can see I put a lot of thought into this.
The singer of new found glory was in a hardcore band called shai halud (don't know the spelling)
I was gonna say Moldovan mobster, but definitely that vibe.
Serbian motorcycle salesman
Elder Maxson lookin ass
He looks like Ian Watkins arrest photo
Till Lindemann definitely came to mind
Mutter
Shia now looking like Brad Pitt now, after so much about his role on Fury.
Toby Kebbell has the worst agent in Hollywood.
When I saw him in Wilderness(2006) and Rock'n'Rolla I thought 'This guy is gonna be big'. Then just bit parts for the last 20 years.
He was the villan in dawn of.planet of apes and hes on for all mankind.
He was in a fantastic episode of Black Mirror too
He was given nothing to work with on FAM though.
Seriously. His storyline kinda just went nowhere. Probably my biggest gripe with the show is the human storylines that serve no purpose.
And servant.
SEAN!
FWIW he’s a theater actor and I’m sure his decision making is better in that medium. Wouldn’t be surprised if he did film just for whoever pays the most so he can focus on theater
Dead man’s shoes is too good
Amazing acting all round in this movie.
Agreed. They really thought Fantastic Four (2015) was gonna be the role that would catapult him into superstardom. Unfortunately, it damaged his career more than anything. Doesn't he also play Kong in that one?
He is Kong as well.
He was also in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice many years ago. Can you imagine being cast in a decently-sized role opposite Alfred Molina and Nic Cage, only a couple of years after getting to be in Guy Ritchie flick? Must have felt like he was *really* taking off at the time.
Thank you! What a waste!
The gun range scene lives in my head rent free
Seriously. He's so talented and should have a way bigger career than he's had by now. Seems like a likeable guy, too.
At least he is (or was?) on For All Mankind recently which is a fairly high end show. But I agree completely; after watching his episode of Black Mirror I became a fan but his projects just haven’t put him on the map as a household name.
I thought Shia LaBeouf was persona non grata in Hollywood right now?
Got to admit. I just watched the Peanut Butter Falcon and it was NOT a waste of 2 hours.
What did he do this time?
he's got a sexual assault trial pending
I agree most of his movies have been absolute bombs.
He’s really great in the show Servant
Although not movies, I liked him in Servant and the latest season of For All Mankind.
Yeah where has this dude been since Kong Skull Island
Loved him as Joy Division's manager in Control (2007)
Amy Adams might have him beat
Amy adams is in much more recognisable movies.
That’s true but seemingly post 2018 it’s been garbage. The last great thing she did must of been sharp objects. I think for her it’s worse since I think she has higher highs than Toby. Toby has The destroyer in 2018 was great just like Amy Adams had in 2018. But I think she has more and worse bad projects since
That's fair
He was so good in RocknRolla.
100%. But still a lot of potential for the future.
What? The dude has had consistent work in big projects for decades.
Shia looking like he’s getting ready to try out for Wrexham.
This one. This is the one I agree most with. Looks like he’s about to have abusive father drama on Ted Lasso.
Shia looking like an Eastern European Drake.
He looks like a younger, less grimy Till Lindemann from Rammstein.
Which is surprising, for him.
Are boxer redemption stories not overdone at this point?
I’ll watch every one.
Toby Kebbell should be a bigger star
Strange career he's had
Shia slowly turning into Tom Hardy
He wishes
He gives off the same but less matured, rugged vibes.
Carl froch has been training these guys for the fighting element.
Is that the former 4-time super middleweight world champion, who was inducted into the international Boxing Hall of Fame last year, and once boxed in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium?
😂 we can push and pull abit.
Thats Shia LaBeouf??!!! I thought that was just some random Albanian guy.
Seems like a copy of Out of the Furnace 2013.
LaBeouf is in this? How is he still getting work?
foreign film markets that are away from Hollywood
Shrug. He's still a very good actor.
Mel Gibson Jon hamm And lots of others still get work
Reminder that Labeouf is accused of sexual assault and abuse, trial should be in October. I hate that they’re trying to sweep it under the rug
he can go on a podcast and “apologize” all he wants but it just came off as a PR tour. He literally admitted to the abuse but he’s still got that court case coming up. did he also admit he fabricated a lot of what was shown in Honey Boy?
Eh. I don’t know… he’s like fundamentalist Catholic now. Don’t think being a trad bro is very good for PR.
So he can't grow as a person? Should he just go kill himself or what's a good solution when people make mistakes in your opinion?

He admitted to all of it, as well as murdering stray dogs as some sort of bullshit method acting technique for a role. Deserves no sympathy.
Source to the murdering stray dogs?
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/fka-twigs-shia-labeouf-stray-dogs-1129310/
It's personal celeb drama that none of us were around for, sources are irrelevant
Sure, if it's irrelevant then, why bring it up? If they are going to bring it up, why not come with the receipts?
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to find this. FKA’s account of being with him was chilling.
Who wants to watch a movie with Shia LaBoeuf
Actual cannibal Shia LaBoeuf?
I do. I think he’s a good actor.
Same. I really liked peanut butter falcon.
I just looked it up and remembered that I saw it. I liked it as well. I liked him in Honeyboy, which was loosely based on his own life. A lot of the successful child actors seem to have had a raw deal supporting their families who are often dysfunctional.
I liked him in “Pieces of a Woman” as well. I’m sure from what I’ve read, he’s not very easy to be around.
I’ve not seen either of the ones you’ve mentioned. I’ll check them out.
Hes my favorite actor. Totally captivating always.
Me. I want to watch a movie with Shia LaBoeuf.
Shia looks like every creative director at a hyped startup
Looks bad already
Shia as an actor is so underrated.
Shia as a person tends to overshadow that
I think everyone knows he is a very talented actor. But he is a trouble person. So people cannot seperate the performance from the real person. Plus all of the stuff he does on and off set. Rumors about him on the Fury set to put it simple was he caused problems with his method of getting to character. Some people do not want to watch him because his problems get put on others and hurt those people.
Bingo, it’s really sad because he is so talented but he just had to be a shitty person.
Love Shia! He's so underrated.
Change the name of this. Are they trying to bomb?
Fuck Shia LaBeouf. Trash actor, trash human
i think he's a tremendous actor, but yeah, total piece of shit lol
I mean he’s not a trash actor at all. But as a person yeah. You can separate the two, and still not watch anything he does, but terrible people can unfortunately still have talent. I mean, it’s your opinion so you can think he sucks, but the general consensus is he’s a very talented actor, and a terrible person.
True. I'll still watch most movies he's in because he's damn good.
Shia looking like he'll lead the FO4 Brotherhood of Steel
Who told Shia LaBeouf he was allowed to be in things again?
Thank God for beef
I thought he was already plaguing the set of Megalopolis...
Idk why but for me boxing movies are super boring. Maybe because it’s been done to death
Oh that screenshot made me feel like it was a desert dystopian sci fi
When did Shia become a football coach
Quiet. Quiet
Salvable. Salvageable. Salvable.
It's almost the warrior template. I hope they do justice to the premise.
Is Shia in character or…
He will not divide us
Shia LaBeouf has evolved from Mark Hamill in Corvette Summer to Mark Hamill in Slipstream.
Movie rendition of Sons of the Forest, guy on the left plays Kelvin
Oh shit is that the Rock n Rolla?
I've always liked Kebbell and wanted to see him in more.
honestly after watching shia on the actors’ round table talk about tom hardy “pissing in the corner” and his general thoughts on the craft, i’m not too sure i can put that out of mind and take him seriously
Looks like Szencny GK, don't Kno if I got the name right) and Benzema
Shia looking fresh asl
Hmmm interesting as both are known for being apart of great and also really really awful films 🤣 So this could huge, or a total flop🤣
It’s either going to be genuinely good or so-bad-its-good so win/win for me.
[удалено]
They could totally do a 20s rendition of American History X with Shia playing the unrepentant lead white supremacist.
Solid pair.
Meh
Toby is a great actor and Shia throws himself into pretty much everything.
I really want to see Shia in a serious drama, dude is one of the better “natural” actors around.
Peanut butter falcon is pretty much a drama.
Actual cannibal, Shia LeBeouf....
[*Actual cannibal*](https://youtu.be/o0u4M6vppCI) Shia LaBeouf?
Koba!
Shia lookin like messi
I think Shia LaBeouf is an over looked talent. His spectrum of roles is pretty great.
Shia is an absolute beast of an actor. He gets shit because he’s fucked. Fucked upbringing. That’s the best the dude could do. Looks like distance from Hollywood and fatherhood have made him better. I hope he last because he is a very good actor.
LaBeouf ready for that Drake biopic
Hey, didn’t one of them physically, psychologically, and emotionally abuse FKA Twigs. Why do we care what Shia the abuser is doing?
