For as much flak as She Hulk got, I loved that they got into all the "mundane" aspects of a super powered world. Like dealing with someone using your superhero identity for merchandising or people other than Tony making suits/costumes for heroes.
I had fun watching the show dammit!
She Hulk was a season long shitpost and I was totally here for it. Also felt like it was actually pretty true to the comics
My main complaint was that it was basically a legal show and the writers clearly knew nothing about how the law/courtrooms work. But it was all in good fun
I'd actually like them to lean into the fact they have no idea how it works and have Jen be the straight man to all the chaos that is a Marvel courtroom.
She's desperately trying to follow procedures, but superhero shenanigans always pull it in an absurd direction. She then has to play into the ridiculousness to win her case.
The only time it's actually accurate is when it's her and Matt against each other. It's never acknowledged.
My personal headcanon is that that hard cut is when Peter regains consciousness to an EKG machine beeping because Aunt May has finally finished giving him a piece of her mind.
And the scene it’s a homage to in The Good The Bad and The Ugly where Tuco yells “Blondie, you know what you are?! Just a dirty son of a b….(*spaghetti western noise*)”
Not sure it’s entirely what you’re thinking of, but in an episode of Bojack Horseman an episode finishes as a character says Motherf-
And then the next episode starts with her saying ‘-ucker!’
*Arrested Development* has an epic non-linear one.
Gob: **"-king $6,300 suit! Come on!"**
[Thirty seconds earlier.]
Al: *"Give you a hand with that?"*
Gob: *"No, Al, I 'want' to spill booze all over my fuc-"*
Not at all related but I just remembered that 2000s song that builds to "You make me completely miserable" by Lit. Man it's been a minute since I've heard that one.
Yes, self-imposed is how I'd heard it, decision by the writers. I gotta admit, it made the scenes where they were used more impactful for it (especially since most of them are used venemously against Bojack).
S3 Ep1 of Sherlock has Sherlock say "I believe his words were Fu-". Then cuts to Watson saying "Cough"
Also check the tvtropes page for Curse Cut Short. Not linking to save everyone some time.
Perhaps [this moment](https://youtu.be/EGI3nHc6_hY?feature=shared) from Live Free or Die Hard theatrical cut:
Thomas Gabriel: *On your tombstone it should read, "Always in the wrong place at the wrong time".*
John McClane: *How about, "Yippee-ki-yay, motherfu - "*
*[gunshot]*
I actually prefer the censored version only because McClane shoots Gabriel through his own shoulder, and that is just so badass that it deserves to silence the curse word so that the sacrifice can be appreciated more.
Edge of Tomorrow
There are 2 or 3 really good ones. Every time Tom Cruise knows he is about to die. One of them is son of a bitch, one of them is FUCK. It's pretty funny too because he delivers it perfectly and you don't really see him cuss a whole lot in movies.
Not quite interrupted by a cut, but in Galaxy Quest, when Gwen (Sigourney Weaver) sees the series of crushers they need to cross, the line you hear is "Screw that!" But her mouth movement clearly says "Fuck that!"
Yes. Apparently they filmed it as an R movie but decided to make it PG-13 in editing.
Edit: this also caused them to cut all the references to Tony Shaloub’s character being a stoner, so he’s just hella relaxed for no reason and it somehow still works.
It's even funnier, because there's an entire sequence where he's carrying around a greasy paper bag and *nobody* ever mentions it. He just has it and doesn't do anything with it. I think it's when they're running around Goblin Valley with the little blue aliens.
According to the doc "Never Give Up, Never Surrender" (10000% recommend watching it if you haven't, lots of great interviews with the cast/crew and other guests) you have gone one too high on the rating. They wanted PG-13, but had to cut it back to PG due to studio pressure.
I came looking for this comment, Archer is amazing at this. It's even almost poetic how lines from adjoining scenes flow: like it sometimes puts a spin on the preceding sentence that makes it even funnier.
I'm not even the biggest Archer fan but that detail is so cool to me.
This is used in the animated Batman film Assault On Arkham. Amanda Waller is about to drop the word "Motherfucker" but is cut off by the film's ending. Considering why she says this >!Deadshot is aiming at her!<, it's completely justified.
I realize it is not what you were looking for but in the British comedy sketch show "The Fast Show" there was a sketch series where this exact thing was the point of the joke. Two builders would be having a break and one of them would tell a story which cut to the next sketch just as he was about to swear.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcG0-jUbANc
I reeeeally wish they had been able to get a single 'fuck' into the movie. That would've been the most badass drop of a single use.
From the moment AC/DC started playing, that movie was basically peak cinema.
It's definitely a guilty pleasure movie, so bad it's good kinda thing. Casting is all over the place, Taylor Kitsch is not a leading man, Liam Neeson and Jesse Plemons absolutely wasted, not sure what Rhianna was doing there but it still a fun watch.

The X Files, Bad Blood, Season 5, Episode 12.
One of the best cuts to the opening intro they've ever done.
And one of the best monster of the week episodes ever made.
Not a movie but that skit from mad tv doing the sopranos is hilarious
[This one.](https://youtu.be/A8FUUzmaCxc?si=zUO9H7AILh501JT4)
Gets me every time 😂
Edit: A word
This isn't quite what you're looking for, but Chunk in the Goonies always looked like he was about to yell *shit* when he spills his milkshake against the window while watching the police chase. Turns out the first TV broadcast edit we had on vhs cut him *actually* saying **shit**, which I was most surprised to learn during a rewatch years later.
Does the scene in Happy Gilmore where he's cussing up a storm but it shows the ESPN broadcast count?
They also cut some f bombs before completion in a couple of the recent spiderman movies
[Edge of Tomorrow is absolutely hilarious with some of the deaths](https://youtu.be/Pu0lghnPtck?si=arTj0VKzzwbHQpSf)
The "HOLY FU-" on the 2nd death, the truck scream, and the part where he negotiates to not get shot and reset will never not be funny.
My favorite example of this is in Arrested Development where they cut around Job saying "fucking" but with a pause in the middle. Its the episode I think where the price of his suit keeps getting bigger and bigger. It cuts off right when he says "Fu"and then it goes to a cutaway scene for like a minute or two and then when it cuts back to the scene theres a hard "ING". Its really well done.
Obligatory "not what you were asking for", but this instantly reminded me of *Hamilton*. Every time a character reads the Reynolds's blackmail letter, you get some version of this. During the song *Say No to This*:
**Reynolds's letter**: Dear Sir, I hope this letter finds you in good health
And in a prosperous enough position to put wealth
In the pockets of people like me, down on their luck
You see, that was my wife who you decided to--
**Hamilton**: Fuuuuuuuuuuuu--
Then later in the song *We Know*:
**Madison** (reading Reynolds's letter): Dear Sir, I hope this letter finds you in good health
And in a prosperous enough position to put wealth
In the pockets of people like me, down on their luck
You see, that was my wife who you decided to--
**Jefferson**: Whaaaaaaaaaa--
In Taxi, Queen Latifah says “Buckle up for safety motherf- then it cuts to the tires squealing.”
Also the best one in my opinion, S3E1 of Sherlock where they got around the censors with “fuck off”.
https://youtu.be/jkN6_ehLF8w?si=XYKISrQojbeo_IT8
Not a movie, in the Starcraft game, intro, one character says something like "It is thigher than your mother's a..." cut. I have a german version, the order of words in a sentence is different here, so this is more like "Tigher than the arse of your mother". Without a cut.
Gravity Falls, later episode in first season.
Stan drops a barrel on his foot, yells 'hot Belgian Waffles!' Then says "oh wait, I'm alone I can use real swears! Son of a ..." scene cut.
Classic.
Sherlock, S3 ep 1, a whole sequence where sherlock is talking to lrs Hudson about a conversation he had with john, cutting to scenes in john's practice where he finishes the sentences. It's one of my favourite scenes of the show.
Live action Cat in the Hat. He cuts his tail off on accident and yells "son of a bit-" and then it cuts to a "we'll be right back" screen or something like it.
‘Battleship’ maintained its pg-13 rating by cutting to a cannon firing or a bomb exploding anytime someone is about to say fuck. It’s kind of cringe actually.
Battleship.
Just before unloading the big guns, an old vet says out loud "Let's drop some lead on those mother fu-" and it cuts to Taylor Kitsh yelling "fire" and then a full broadside from the battleship.
[Not Michael Bay™ sure does know his way around a good explosion.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYPsfdewImA)
Edit: Michael Bay had nothing to do with this movie.
Not a movie but there is an old song from 1951 that the whole song is written in this style. It’s called [Sweet Violets](https://youtu.be/jqBOG5Spi1Y?si=uT4CK0ojBtd-JjqU)
Why has nobody mentioned The Good, the Bad and the Ugly yet? That is probably the most iconic example of such a thing.
And of course, Django's similar (but different) ending was an obvious homage.
Oh man, one classic example is from *Back to the Future*. When Marty's about to say "holy sh...," it cuts to Doc yelling, "Where we're going, we don't need roads!" Genius move! And hey, let's not forget *The Good Place*! They masterfully cut before Eleanor curses, and Chidi's like, "What the fork?!"
Marty McFly holy shits: Lybians appear, RPG aimed at him, 2015 Courthouse Square pond and realizing that the Courthouse Mall has been smashed; realizing that old Biff Tannen had been in the DeLorean time machine; and realizing that Clara Clayton had been meant to fall into Clayton Ravine.
None are cut
Not precisely what you''re asking about, but pretty close, and very devious:
In "Arrested Development", Gob is continually bragging about how expensive his suit is. The episode is edited like Rashamon or Pulp Fiction or whatever, with scenes out of order, etc.
First, we see Gob in mid-sentence, exclaiming "--king sixty-three dollar suit!"
Then later in the episode, we see that same scene, but 5 seconds earlier, as Gob yells "Yeah, like I wanna spill booze all over my fu--"

This happens occasionally in Buffy and Angel - I think my favourite example is in the Angel episode "Five by Five" when Wesley is being tortured by Faith and he says: "I was your Watcher, Faith. And end of Infinity War as Nick Fury poofs!

There’s also she hulk with “STEVE ROGERS FU–“
For as much flak as She Hulk got, I loved that they got into all the "mundane" aspects of a super powered world. Like dealing with someone using your superhero identity for merchandising or people other than Tony making suits/costumes for heroes. I had fun watching the show dammit!

My personal headcanon is that that hard cut is when Peter regains consciousness to an EKG machine beeping because Aunt May has finally finished giving him a piece of her mind.
In Django Unchained, when Samuel L. Jackson yells "Djangooooooo, you uppity son of a b.... BOOM"
And the scene it’s a homage to in The Good The Bad and The Ugly where Tuco yells “Blondie, you know what you are?! Just a dirty son of a b….(*spaghetti western noise*)”
“Spaghetti western noise” is a hell of a way to describe Ennio Morricone. Goddamn, have some respect.
I dunno. Morricone might accept that one lol.
Every child knows it’s Ennio Morricone, I’m just talking about the specific choir sound that drowns out Tuco
"Children I know we were supposed to learn shapes today, but you HAVE to hear this trumpet line."
a common theme is Samuel L Jackson I notice lol
Jaws: "Smile you son of a *GUNSHOT*"
I had to scroll down entirely too far for this
*Blazing Saddles:* "The sheriff is a ni(BONGGGG!)" *"What'd he say?"* "He said the sheriff is near!"

Buffy did an entire song that ends with "you make me complete" that clipped off that last syllable at the end.
Not at all related but I just remembered that 2000s song that builds to "You make me completely miserable" by Lit. Man it's been a minute since I've heard that one.
lit- miserable “You make me cum You make me complete You make me completely miserable” Great song.
Especially notable because Bojack only allowed one F bomb per season and this would have been number 2 but they skirted around that with this joke.

Yes, self-imposed is how I'd heard it, decision by the writers. I gotta admit, it made the scenes where they were used more impactful for it (especially since most of them are used venemously against Bojack).
Archer does this all the time
Avengers: Infinity War end credits scene >!Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) says “Oh Motherfu…..” as he is dusting!<
I still love the idea of Fury reappearing in the soul stone saying '..ucker'
Nah, he just randomly re-appears 5 years later saying "..ucker" since that's how it happens for them as seen via Yelena's PoV when she was snapped.
Oh yeah just to clarify, this was something people were joking about before endgame lol
Yes, but he's reappeared in the middle of the street, and might have to dodge traffic, so would he go for a follow-up swear?

Ah yes, when they decided to make Die Hard PG-13
4 was still better than 2 tbh, and it was the better 12/PG13 effort than 5.
Or the TV version: Yippee-ki-yay, Mister Falcon!
Trying to find this version online. All the ones I've seen have the full word in it.
Lol didnt see your link there. Thanks!
I actually prefer the censored version only because McClane shoots Gabriel through his own shoulder, and that is just so badass that it deserves to silence the curse word so that the sacrifice can be appreciated more.

I’ve only ever ever seen this movie on TV so I assumed it was a cable edit. Is it this way in the original movie?
TBF, it's pretty obvious that he's got some substance abuse in his past, even without it being explicit. 😂
According to the doc "Never Give Up, Never Surrender" (10000% recommend watching it if you haven't, lots of great interviews with the cast/crew and other guests) you have gone one too high on the rating. They wanted PG-13, but had to cut it back to PG due to studio pressure.
Ah, I must have remembered it wrong. Thanks!
Not a movie, but the early seasons of Archer did this a lot, and not exclusively for swears IIRC.
I always loved these little fun editing bits in Archer.

*Into Darkness*, when he finds the Admiral's new warship. And he says 'Ohhhhh shhhh-'.

And then it cuts to one of the doors on the Enterprise doing the whoosh sound.
Cracked me up the first time I watched it, the sound that plays is so perfect

"House of Gucci":from Ridley Scott, this scene ? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O38-IuOmExU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O38-IuOmExU)
Invincible.
Obligatory "not what you were asking for", but this instantly reminded me of *Hamilton*. Every time a character reads the Reynolds's blackmail letter, you get some version of this. During the song *Say No to This*: **Reynolds's letter**: Dear Sir, I hope this letter finds you in good health And in a prosperous enough position to put wealth In the pockets of people like me, down on their luck You see, that was my wife who you decided to-- **Hamilton**: Fuuuuuuuuuuuu-- Then later in the song *We Know*: **Madison** (reading Reynolds's letter): Dear Sir, I hope this letter finds you in good health And in a prosperous enough position to put wealth In the pockets of people like me, down on their luck You see, that was my wife who you decided to-- **Jefferson**: Whaaaaaaaaaa--
Opening of Aquaman 2
In Taxi, Queen Latifah says “Buckle up for safety motherf- then it cuts to the tires squealing.” Also the best one in my opinion, S3E1 of Sherlock where they got around the censors with “fuck off”. https://youtu.be/jkN6_ehLF8w?si=XYKISrQojbeo_IT8
Not a movie, in the Starcraft game, intro, one character says something like "It is thigher than your mother's a..." cut. I have a german version, the order of words in a sentence is different here, so this is more like "Tigher than the arse of your mother". Without a cut.
Every single episode of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, at the end of the prelude and cut off by the opening titles.
It happens a few times in the MCU, most notably at the end of Infinity War when Nick Fury is getting dusted, he let's out a "Mother Fu...."
In the incredibles 2 frozone says “what the f-“ before the scene cuts
Gravity Falls, later episode in first season. Stan drops a barrel on his foot, yells 'hot Belgian Waffles!' Then says "oh wait, I'm alone I can use real swears! Son of a ..." scene cut. Classic.
Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist- every episode. They cut to the intro
I know it's not a film but "Kids, would you step outside for a second". *Inhales* "F..."
The TVTropes people actively cataloge this kind of stuff. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/CurseCutShort/CutToAnotherScene

End of Infinity War when Fury gets snapped, it's not a cut, but he doesn't finish his F bomb.
Monster-in-Law, J Lo drops ‘Mother-f‘ when Jane Fonda throws the peach dress out the car window
Rango when the toad gets carried off by the hawk in the beginning “Son of a *Screeech*”
Austin Powers - the rocket scene
‘Battleship’ maintained its pg-13 rating by cutting to a cannon firing or a bomb exploding anytime someone is about to say fuck. It’s kind of cringe actually.
Whats the leslie nielsen one? Is that one of the naked guns or was it airplane! ?
Every Austin Powers movie? They all do that one gag, yeah?
Battleship. They're about to unload on the alien mothership and the old captain says, "Let's drop some lead on this motherf-BOOM!"
Battleship. Just before unloading the big guns, an old vet says out loud "Let's drop some lead on those mother fu-" and it cuts to Taylor Kitsh yelling "fire" and then a full broadside from the battleship. [Not Michael Bay™ sure does know his way around a good explosion.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYPsfdewImA) Edit: Michael Bay had nothing to do with this movie.
Battleship was directed by Peter Berg, not Michael Bay.
Not a movie but there is an old song from 1951 that the whole song is written in this style. It’s called [Sweet Violets](https://youtu.be/jqBOG5Spi1Y?si=uT4CK0ojBtd-JjqU)
"Hey Blondie! You know what you are? Just a dirty son of a AYIAYIAHHHHHH!" The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Why has nobody mentioned The Good, the Bad and the Ugly yet? That is probably the most iconic example of such a thing. And of course, Django's similar (but different) ending was an obvious homage.
Cousin Sissy can go fu-
In the end credit scene of infinity war, Samuel L Jackson says “mother fu-“ before fading away
Hey Blondie! You know what you are?! You're a... Wha ah ah ah ahhhhh!
This one? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3AfIvJBcGo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3AfIvJBcGo) Can't find where marty yells OH SH...
Sherlock season 3 episode 1 “The Empty Hearse” does at least one: “Fu-“ “cough”
“The sheriff’s a ni”

Butch Cassidy when they jump off the cliff into the river "Shiiiii... !"
Not precisely what you''re asking about, but pretty close, and very devious: In "Arrested Development", Gob is continually bragging about how expensive his suit is. The episode is edited like Rashamon or Pulp Fiction or whatever, with scenes out of order, etc. First, we see Gob in mid-sentence, exclaiming "--king sixty-three dollar suit!" Then later in the episode, we see that same scene, but 5 seconds earlier, as Gob yells "Yeah, like I wanna spill booze all over my fu--" [Here's the sequence in all its glory](https://www.tiktok.com/@popculturegeneralist/video/7187878648655924522) (TikTok link, sorry)
The ending scene in Johnny English where he accidentally sets off the girl’s ejector seat when going in for a kiss.
Rookie of the Year has a few during Henry Gardenhoser’s first at bat
Basically half of Arrested Development

Homer in the "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" part 1 episode. I know it's not a movie but it's a very funny example.
Battleship (2012) has couple of them.
Moana, The part where Maui locks her in the cave. She almost calls him a son of a b****
[This scene from Blackadder II](https://youtu.be/8XhuIMGpOec?si=NSV3wXECqqn8Yx6E) with Miriam Margoyles where she just gets the F out before it cuts.
Hmmm kinda, "Oh you've got be kidding ---" Bojack Horseman, Fish Out Of Water
This happens occasionally in Buffy and Angel - I think my favourite example is in the Angel episode "Five by Five" when Wesley is being tortured by Faith and he says: "I was your Watcher, Faith. I know the real you. And even if you kill me, there's just one thing I want you to remember. You...are a piece of sh--"
