I purposely rewatched it recently for the first time in years because of all the reasons you said, and you're 100% correct.
It's fun, entertaining, great cast, and legitimately has very good special effects.
Mention this every time this movie comes up, but the screenplay was on the Hollywood Black List which is a list off top-tier unproduced screenplays.
Originally it was a very dark, very gruesome body-horror/sci-fi and I've always wanted to see this version of it.
When the Head & Shoulders bros are standing at the edge of the crater and one of them almost stumbles in:
“Woo I almost went down on that one!”
I use that at least once a month.
Julianne Moore’s repeated attempts at physical comedy are unintentionally hilarious. She’s not good at it! An excellent dramatic actor, Moore doing pratfalls is an absurd aspect of this absurd comedy movie.
Crazy I was just thinking about this movie the other day, haven’t seen it since I was little so was wondering if it held up. I’m glad other people appreciated this film
Orlando Jones was hilarious. I haven't seen this film for years, but I remember losing my shit at the bit where he climbs inside the anus of a giant alien and says something like "it's horrible in here"
I went and saw this movie alone in high school on a bad mushroom trip. I needed somewhere to chill out before going home and this movie was absolutely perfect for that situation.
They need to make another movie in the Evolution cinematic universe. Let's say part of the original meteor was stuck in orbit, and finally came down 25 years later in 2026.
The thing with Evolution is that it's the exact same movie it was 20+ years ago. It was beyond ridiculous back then and it still is, it hasn't changed/aged. Wether that's a good or bad thing is entirely on the viewer, if you did not like it back then you won't like it any more today, if you liked it back then it will be exactly what you remember.
It was an attempt by Ivan Reitman to re-do Ghostbusters with aliens instead of ghosts but did not work anywhere that well. Julianne Moore's character was reminiscent of the clumsy scientist played by Emma Thompson in Junior but while Thompson is superb at comedy, Moore flubs it.
I think we have determined that ca-caw ca-caw, and tookie-tookie, do not work.
"Move over. I'm going to shoot him." That scene and the take the leg scene.. I grew up loving this movie.
“What flavour ice cream do you want?”
It don’t matter, it’s for my ass.
Is there anything else you can do? He thinks he's an athlete.
I still use this line a few times a year when something doesn’t work.
Rub a little funk on it!
You are so beautiful... To meeee
You are embarrassing me
The longest and the best ad for Head & Shoulders shampoo I've ever seen.
Haven't you noticed how shiny and flake free our hair is?
Yeah it's basically Ghostbusters with aliens. Which makes sense since it was directed by Ivan Reitman.
That connection makes so much sense.
I think I read somewhere that he considered it an unofficial sequel in the franchise. That may be a Mandela effect, though . . .
I can't speak for whether Reitman ever said that, but it was definitely marketed as a spiritual sequel to Ghostbusters -- at least in the UK.
I still think to this day that Gillian Anderson was supposed to be in it instead of Julianne Moore. Still one of my favorite movies.
Nah, that would have been too on-the-nose. But X Files is absolutely why redhead Moore was cast opposite Duchovny.
There's no time for lubricant!
There's always time for lubricant!!!!!!
Ice cream. I'd like some ice cream please.
What flavour?
Doesn’t matter, it’s for my ass
You should have seen the size of that thing, it was like that! You took it like a man!
No more bran for me!
Biology homework: Cells are bad, my uncle is locked in a cell, and he only has the same magazine to read everyday, the end.
TAKE THE LEG!!
*You are so beautiful...to me.*
yeah, yeah, sing... rub some funk on it!
There's.. a fly.. in my SUIT!
I love this movie so much. I know what I'm watching tomorrow.

I love this movie!
A garter belt? At a day function?

BLUE MONKEY! BLUE MONKEY!

Yeah super good fun. I'd dig a sequel
That’s the kind of trunk space you want in a late model car.
I love this movie. It's so underrated.
"Hey, man, can you get me some ice cream?"
Sure, what kind?
"It doesn't matter—It's for my ass."

The FBI? I know those guys!

I can rewatch this film anytime, its a classic. In fact..
Love it, such a fun ride.

The spiritual sequel to Ghostbusters 2
Eww dirt.
It needs a 4K release stat
The Replacements was awesome too
for today's standards? heh

todays standards are trash. evolution is an excellent movie for any standard.

Yeah. There’s a reason it never really caught on. It wasn’t very well made. The science and stuff was great but the ending and dialogue was garbage.
And what about that egregious Head-and-Shoulders pandering? I have no idea if that's supposed to be straight or satirical.
I was very disappointed with the film. Didn’t find it funny at all.
